Cannot print in landscape mode?

Using Firefox 31.1.0 on CentOS 6
various HP Laserjet printers
Cant print in Landscape mode. Firefox is on the server and users connect to the server via LTSP thin clients and we prefer to use Firefox for this. One of our users needs to print in Landscape mode several times a day. We used to have Firefox 10 and this was not an issue.
Have tried multiple drivers from CUPS and none have let me print in Landscape. When printing in Landscape, it acutally prints out in Portrait mode but the right side of the page is cut-off. In terminal, as root, we went to system-config-printer, right click on printer, properties, and orientation is set to automatic rotation. When changing to landscape here, it prints in landscape but the top of the page is cutoff now, and that means that all the users connected to the server are going to print by default like this, because all using same CUPS.
I have centos 6 on my stand-alone desktop (not connected to desktop LTSP server) and Landscape printing does not work on Firefox either. It works on Chrome flawlessly, but we much prefer Firefox for work use.
Please help!

  • Print Layout Difficulties - printing in landscape mode

    Haven't upgraded to Pages 2 yet; in the meantime, here's a question related to Pages 1:
    How does one properly print in landscape mode directly from Pages? I'm trying to print a simple CD booklet, but all I get when printing directly from Pages is my page printed at the bottom of the page. This happens even when I select one of the landscape orientations (and I've tried all of them) from the Print Layout before printing.
    I'd simply change the page setup, but Pages gives me no way to rotate any of the objects once my once-horizontal document is now vertically oriented.
    On the other hand, if I do a print preview and save as PDF, I am able to print in landscape orientation from Preview. Which is fine, but having to take the extra two or three steps is frustrating.
    Thanks,
    Kevin
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   2GB RAM, Epson Stylus Photo R200 printer

    Hullo Kevin:
    I'm a bit surprised (and intrigued) by this. Seems to me you're starting off right, and the only suggestion I have to make (directly, that is) is to check whether you've used the available scaling options: i.e., if your landscape mode fills only half the page, will 200% make it fill the lot - or is the landscape orientation just refusing to rotate your content? From what you say, maybe it is, and you'll have found the way around it. But it seems pretty odd to me that you can print from preview as you want, but not from the original. Maybe somebody else can shed some light on this for you.
    But the most constructive reason I have for replying to you is that I do recall a CD booklet template - which might save you a lot of trouble. I can't tell whether it will suit you; but very likely it might.
    You'll find it on Gerry Straathof's pagesuser.com. It's called Monkey Business CD Booklet, for a CD that was released with it, and the content would seem pretty flexible within the template: it could like as not suit a very different look from the sample shown. Please notice the conditions that go with it, but I think I summarise them fairly in that it's mainly the content that is protected, rather than use of the template.
    In any case the site is live - it has a forum just like this one; and by the way Gerry seems to know his way around Pages pretty well, so you might like to put your question more directly to his notice by posting it on his site.
    So I've no real answer to your question - but I hope helps you to find one.
    Best Wishes and Good Luck.

  • Problem with computing Font width while printing in Landscape mode

    I have an application which prints a table and fills it with some text. I render it on a JComponent using the drawString(theStr, xPos, yPos) and the drawLine(rigtX, topY, rigtX, botY) methods in Graphics2D object. I want to take print-out of the table and also store the image of the table in, say, jpeg format. The print can be in Landscape or Portrait format depending on the size of the JComponent, which the user sets depending on the table size and the font size.
    I have a paintTable( ) method which contains all the drawString( ) and drawLine( ) methods. This method is called from the paint( ) method of the JComponent to achieve normal rendering. The same method is called to get a BufferedImage of the Table. The same method is further called from the implementation of print( ) method from the Printable interface.
    In the paintTable( ) method, I compute the pixel coordinates of the table grid lines and the texts positions in the tables depending on the font width and height obtained as shown below:
            // Set the Font
            Font theFont = graphics.getFont();
            theFont = theFont.deriveFont((float)TableFontSize); // TableFontSize is an int of value 8,9,10 etc.
            graphics.setFont(theFont);
            // Get the Font Size
            FontRenderContext frc = graphics.getFontRenderContext();
            float width = ((Rectangle2D.Float)theFont.getMaxCharBounds(frc)).width;
            float height = ((Rectangle2D.Float)theFont.getMaxCharBounds(frc)).height;
           System.out.println("FONT WIDTH HEIGHT [" + width + "," + height + "] ");I am getting the following value of width and height when the above print statement is executed with a value of 9 for TableFontSize. FONT WIDTH HEIGHT [18.0,11.3203125]
    The problem I face is :
    While Printing in Landscape mode the value of the 'width' variable printed as given above is becoming negative. Kindly see the values: FONT WIDTH HEIGHT [-9.37793,11.3203125]. This is happening ONLY DURING PRINTING IN LANDSCAPE MODE. This makes my calculation of table grid line coordinates and text positions completely wrong and the table goes out of place.
    Kindly note that, there is no problem during normal rendering and BuffereredImage creation and also while printing in Portrait mode. The problem happens irrespective of Linux or Windows. The value of 'height' is always correct.
    Kindly let me know: If the method I use to get the 'width' and 'height' is correct ? Is there any better way which will work fine in all platforms under all circumstances.
    Kindly help me to sort out this issue.
    Thanks a lot in advance and best regards

    I have extracted the relevent code and made a stand alone program.
    The complete code is enclosed; including that for printing.
    Kindly go through the same and help me to solve this problem.
    Thanks again and regards

  • Documents  only print in landscape mode even when portrait is designated.  How do I fix this?

    Documents will only print in landscape mode when portrait is disignated

    How about changing the printer and printing something, then close Firefox and then restart your operating system? See if that helps ....
    I am curious why you need two separate versions of the same printer installed. Is one used on a USB connection and the other part of a network configuration or wireless? If both are network or wireless, are they using a different IP address on the network they are on?
    The only time I have seen a similar problem with Firefox not wanting to default to the "last used" printer was with a USB inkjet and a network connected laserjet (Brother) - the laserjet would go to "sleep" (energy saving mode) and Firefox would switch to the inkjet every time the laserjet was asleep. That problem was eventually solved when the USB inkjet was replaced by a "network" connected inkjet - still can't understand why that made the difference, though.

  • Pdf's print in landscape mode

    Hello,
    If i try to print a pdf file that i received in a mail, the pdf file is printed in landscape mode while the document is in portrait.
    This causes that some of the information on the pdf file doesn't get printed.
    Any solutions known?
    Kind regards,
    Jay

    You'll probably want to check with the makers of handyprint on this problem. The AirPrint Basics article states that an AirPrint printer is a requirement.
    "You also need an AirPrint-enabled printer listed in this article. Printers not listed in this article are not supported by AirPrint."
    I can try your document against an AirPrint printer if you are curious.

  • CRVS2010 Beta 2 - report does not print in Landscape mode correctly

    I am using Crystal Reports Beta 2 for Visual Studio 2010 on Windows XP. I am trying to print a report in landscape mode. The WPF Crystal Report Viewer displays the report correctly in landscape view. When I print it, it moves all the data to the center of the page, prints it in smaller font and to the left and cuts off a lot of the data on the right hand side.
    I have tried various different suggested solutions from reading other forums and nothing seems to work. Is this a known Crystal Report Viewer issue?
    Solutions I have already tried:
    1. Page setup under Crystal Reports - selected no printer (optimize for screen display)
    2. Page setup under Crystal Reports - checked dissociate formatting page size and printer paper size
    3. Setting paper orientation and page orientation at run-time to landscape.
    4. Printing to different printers
    Something to note, I can export this report as a .pdf file and it prints perfectly from adobe. This only seems to be an issue when printing directly from the WPF Crystal Report Viewer to the printer.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated! I have been stuck on this issue for a while...
    Thanks!

    Hi Sharon,
    There have been issues with printing and printers in CR 2008 and the same routines are in CR 2010. The patches we have done to help with standard paper sizes in CR 2008 are not in the Beta releases.
    Not sure if they will make it into the GA release next month. As a work around I suggest you continue exporting to PDF and then printing the PDF file until they have been resolved and patches are available.
    Thank you
    Don

  • HT1947 Remote Apps cannot display in landscape mode in iOS7

    My ipad 4 cannot display the Remote App in landscape mode after upgraded to iOS7, also the response is very slow when choosing album, songs or Artist

    Is there a lock symbol at the top of the screen next to the battery indicator ? If there is, then depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (rotation lock or mute notifications), then you can lock/unlock the rotation by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad above the volume switch, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085
    If there isn't a lock symbol then try a soft-reset (is that what you mean by restarting ?) : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Can't print in Landscape mode since installing Snow Leopard

    Since the installation of Snow Leopard 10.6.2 I can't print in landscape format from application such as Word, powerpoint, Turbo Cad, etc, on my network printer. This is despite changing my page set-up and printer settings My only work around at the moment is to print to a PDF document and print a hardcopy from there. Any thoughts...??

    Hi fruhulda,
    1000 thanks for your help. I've tried everything you suggested. Nothing really fixed the problem except creating a new account. In the new account, I could open and use Pages documents I had created before I switched to Snow Leopard. And all of the functions seemed to work properly, including copy and paste.
    In order to use my old, pre-Snow Leopard documents, I had to put them into a shared folder, so that I could access them from my new account. Does this mean I'm going to have to move ALL of my files from my old account into a shared folder, bring them into the new account, and make the new account my main account? If so, that seems like a lot of annoyance and a lot of work. Not that I'm blaming you--thanks for the fix. It just would have been nice not to have to start from scratch.
    Also one or two worrying things came up when I did my disk repair, namely, the following two messages:
    Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
    Warning: SUID file "System/Library/PrivateFramework/DesktopServicesPriv.framework/Versions/A/Resou rces/Locum" has been modified and will not be repaired.
    I did some looking around in old forums and other people have gotten these messages before and seemed to be pretty worried about them. I don't really understand what they mean, and I guess I'm wondering if I should be worried about them too.
    Again thank you very much for your help so far.

  • Portrait images print in landscape mode

    I've just installed iLife '06 and imported some images into a new library.
    If I rotate an image to portrait, it then appears as a portrait in all thumbnails; but if I view the image to edit it or if I drag it to a book page, it displays as landscape. Oddly, if I have iPhoto show the page's thumbnail, the image appears as portrait in that thumbnail as well...but on the page itself, it's landscape. If I print it, it prints in landscape as well.
    Am I doing something wrong, or is iPhoto 6.0 simply broken? (It crashed on me once, too.)

    If the photos are already rotated to portrait before they are imported into iPhoto, there's no problem; they get layed out and printed just as you'd expect. There's only a problem if I rotate them in iPhoto.
    I'm using the "Classic" template, for what it's worth.

  • Help! The new version of Firefox only prints in landscape mode and I cannot figure out how to change this default option. I need the default to be portrait.

    Where in the world are the printer options??

    '''{ Ctrl + P }''' to open the "native print dialog" box, then hit Properties and change it the printer Properties display box.
    Once that is changed Firefox should hold that setting until the next time you print something thru Firefox, unless you would be using a different printer.

  • My Photosmart C309g won't print in landscape mode

    Even after designating landscape orientation the preview shows portrait. My OS is Win XP . Before my computer crashed, the program would select the orientation automatically. After repairs, when the program did not work, I uninstalled the driver and reinstalled off the HP website.  Diagnostics says everything is O.K. but it isn't.  I am also receiving an "out of memory" message. Help!

    Try to not print directly, but enter the print dialog once, set yor settings and then hit the Done button. When you re-enter the dialog again, al lthe settings should stick and acvtualyl be used. that's a known issue with some printer drivers in CS5.

    Thanks,

    Why are you asking a CSS question in a Java/JSP/JSTL forum? I would rather use a CSS forum for that. That HTML code is unnecessary too. Just post relevant code only, such as that CSS snippet.
    Anyway, it may differ per web browser if this page rule will be picked up and it may also be a client side setting regarding printer settings. Nothing to do here.
