Cannot Publish to Word Handouts

When I try to publish a Captivate 2 file to Word Handouts,
the export seems to work and I get the dialog box to View Output,
but before I click on View output, I get an error message -- An
error was encountered while Publishing to Word. Please check and
make sure Word is not busy and try again.
I have checked the path for the new file and it seems valid.
I have tried with Word open and closed. I am using Word 2003
Any ideas?

pshuckhart,
What other programs are running when you try to do this? I
know from experience that many clip board extenders and/or macro
programs (Classic Clipboard, MacroExpress, etc.) can cause the
print option to fail. You may want to try closing/turning off any
other programs that you have running to see if any of them are
causing the failure.

  • Publish to word handout error

    Can anyone please help?
I try to publish to word handout.
The publish progress states completed with a nice green tick.
Then all of a sudden an error appears stating" Error
encountered... blah blah... Please check Word is not busy and try
    again."
    No word document is created.
    Annoyingly yours
    a doh! be

    Hi ...Adobe,
Did you in fact navigate to the \\My Captivate Projects\
folder and physically check to see if the DOC file was or was not
there? I am sure you did, but it doesn't hurt to check, since you
especially noticed the little green check-mark indicating
    completion.
I don't need to know whether the *Blah Blah* contains any
useful information. I know it does not. But there is no question
that Captivate has become *disconnected* (for lack of a better
    word) from Microsoft Word.
I am sure you did check to be sure that Word was not in use
at the time, as Mr. Howard suggested, so that only leaves (based on
the error message) the idea that sometimes Word can be busy without
being used by you. For instance, if you are on a network
workstation your IT person might be auto-updating all copies of
Word - or if you are stand-alone, Windows web-updating might be
    active at the time.
Or have you perhaps installed a newer version of Word? If so,
Captivate might not have been updated with the new path. It is also
possible for RAM memory addresses to become scattered (memory
*leakage*), in which case a reboot might help.
Just offering suggestions that might work to solve the
problem for you. Let us know if anything works for you.
    best wishes~

  • Cannot Publish to Word

Hi, I'm new to using Captivate 3.0 and just running in the
Trial mode as we are evaluating this product. The main reason we
want to use Captivate is because of the ease in creating Word
Documents in a custom format. However, after creating my project I
go to publish it to see the output all I get is the below error in
the log file. I do have Word 2000 installed and I've renamed the
    .dat to have it rebuilt.
Error: 21002 - Word failed to initialize - may not have it
    installed, or an incompatbile version,
    Any advice would be appreciated

    Hi all
And since the error notice mentions version, maybe Captiv8r
would like to help out with that information, as that might be
    helpful to all ...
Yes, well that would be nice, wouldn't it?
Unfortunately, I find it a bit on the odd side that
the error mentions a possibility of an incompatible version of
Word, yet I'm finding a dearth of information anywhere that
remotely mentions what the lowest version of Word Captivate expects
would be. However, I'll also toss out that I successfully used Word
2000 myself with Captivate for a couple of years before finally
upgrading my Office version to 2003. So it would seem that
Captivate should work with Word 2000 without issue. I used it that
way even with an unpatched original copy of Word 2000, so I'll
further add that it didn't seem necessary to ensure any patches had
    been applied.
As I said earlier, it might be worth a shot, given the fact
noguegd tried the first suggestions offered and reported back they
    didn't help.
For anyone that cares and is reading this thread, here is the
thought pattern on checking the Word macro security level. One of
the many other Adobe software products I use and teach is RoboHelp
HTML. In my own experience as well as having observed it in the
classroom on a number of occasions, when you try to generate
Printed output from RoboHelp, you get back an obscure message that
would seem to indicate the RoboHelp application is corrupt. The
error message is something like “Please reinstall Printed
Documentation”. No way I would see that and conclude the
macro security was the issue. But in this case, that's precisely
the issue. Since Captivate also uses Word templates for some of its
print capabilities, it seems perfectly logical to me that I might
want to at least try those settings before giving up. Besides, it
takes all of what, 30 seconds to try it? Seems it takes longer than
that for the Windows Add/Remove utility to launch and populate.
To noguegd, I have no way of knowing if you are up and
running yet, but if you aren't, I'm curious to know if you get the
same error when trying the following action: Click File * Export *
    Project Captions and Closed Captions.
Now before I'm all pounced on again as offering yet another
hare brained suggestion, I'll offer up my thinking on this one.
When one follows that menu path to export the captions and closed
captions, you are also creating a Word document. The document
created using this path is substantially different than you get
with the Publish option. But if this method works, it would at
least prove that Word is working and we may be seeing an issue that
is isolated to only the Publishing Word output from Captivate.
Also, does the same issue arise when trying different Printed
output types? (Lesson, Step by step or Storyboard). It's possible
that you may see one type work and another fail, as I believe the
newer types rely upon some Word documents that are installed along
with Captivate. You will find these newer types in the following
    location:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 3\Gallery\PrintOutPut
(Assuming a default installation of Captivate)
Hopefully something offered here was helpful. To someone...

  • Cannot publish 1 page in CS4. Other pages including index.html ok. Error message results.

After many months of no difficulty, I suddenly cannot publish changes to one of my pages (all others work) without getting the error message 'Another instance of Contribute is doing a workflow operation. Do you want to break the workflow and continue.....?' Whether I say yes or no and follow the prompts, it doesn't work. One way lets me exit, the other locks up my computer and I have to 'end task' to get control back. I hoped that the answer to the 'cannot publish index page' thread would help, but I didn't understand because most of this stuff is over my head. The only thing unusual I can dectect is the page name has an # sign after html as in 'name.html#tuition.' The word tuition refers to a pointer on the page. When I switch to edit mode, an asteric * appears after 'html' on the page name. I do not see that on any other page when I edit. I have CS4 version 5. Can anyone help? I don't know how many people there are in India, but I talked to half of them in a 2.5 hour 'session' in which I was transferred in a least 3 complete loops to every department and passing 'go' 3 times before some techie finally said I should email my question in and will get a reply within 3 days. Yeah, right. Worst tech support experience I have had in 10 years.

    Hi,
Can you try deleting the Preferences and the Contribute's User Configuration folder. You will lose your website connections, you can recreate them again after relaunching Contribute.
If you have installed Contribute in Mac, go to <Username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe folder and delete Contribute CS4 folder there. Also, go to <Username>/Library/Preferences/ folder and delete the 'Adobe Contribute 5 Preferences' file.
If you have installed Contribute in Windows XP, the Contribute's Configuration folder will be in C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\. Delete the Contribute CS4 folder there. To clear the registry for Contribute, type 'regedit' in the Run window.(Click Start, and click Run, and then type 'regedit' in the text field.) Select HKEY_CURRENT_USER, then Software, then Adobe, then Contribute CS4. Click Delete button. Close the Registry Editor window.
The <username>, I have mentioned above is the name with which you will have logged into the machine.
Now, Relaunch Contribute and connect to your website and try editing the web pages from your website. Can you try this?

  • Image margin properties in topic not retained when publishing to Word

I have image text wrap margins working fine in my robohelp 9 project. When I publish to Word 2010 (docx) the margin becomes set to "0". The Word template image default is set to "square" text wrap with right, left margin set to .13" (what i want).  What can i do to retain text wrap margin when publishing to Word?

I have looked around RoboHelp 9 and Word 2010 and also gone back to RoboHelp 7 and Word 2003. I have tried mapping to Word and using the project CSS.
The results are always the same, no margin as you have found. Also I cannot find a way of setting default margins in either version of Word.
For a definitive answer on whether there is a Word solution, I would be heading off to http://windowssecrets.com/forums/
Failing that one option might be to amend the image so that it has a border the same colour as the background of your pages. That would give the appearance of a margin. It does of course mean if you ever change the background colour you will have a bit of image reworking so not ideal.
You should also submit a bug report. Please follow this link.

    Hello experts,

    Yes, it does.
Version compatiblity issue between OEPE and OSB
Project developed on higher version of OEPE OSB plugin may not get deployed into lower version of OSB runtime as it is not certified. Even Oracle won't provide any support if you will face any issue, in such case. So it's better to use compatible OEPE OSB plugin (in your case OSB 11.1.1.3.0)
I asked you whether you have PS2 (11.1.1.3.0) installed in your machine from where you are trying to publish and definitely answer is "No". You are using OSB plugin of higher version for development and trying to publish the project to lower version of OSB, which is not certified (or supported, in other words)
OEPE 11.1.1.5 is certified with OSB 11.1.1.3.0 plugin so please use this combination.

  • Cannot Publish Slides from PowerPoint 2013 to SharePoint 2010 Slide Library

I have the 64-bit version of Windows 8 Release v1.0, Internet Explorer version 10 (10.0.9200.17183), Office 2013 Professional 32-bit, and a SharePoint 2010 environment.  I cannot publish slides to the SharePoint environment at all.  When
I attempt to do so from PowerPoint 2013, I receive an error indicating all slides (X of X) failed to upload.  When I attempt to use the option in the SharePoint 2010 Slide Library (Upload > Publish Slides) I receive the error of "This feature
requires Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007.  Either the application is not installed, or your browser is not configured to support ActiveX controls."
I have added the URL for the site in question to my "Trusted Sites" in Internet Explorer 10.  I read through the KB 2716529.  There is no TabProcGrowth registry entry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER, but there is one under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
and the value is set to "Medium" which appears to be accurate.  I tried running the "Fix it For Me" option offered with that KB, and the wizard indicated the problem could not be found on my computer.
How can I resolve this issue?  Utilizing slide libraries is a very important feature of SharePoint for my organization, and going back to Office 2010 is simply not an option.

    Hi Jen_O,
According to your description, my understanding is that you were unable to publish Slides into SharePoint 2010 with Office 2013.
For narrowing this issue, let's verify the followings:
Please test on other machines with the same system configuration, compare the result.
Please test on other machines with 32-bit system and IE 10, compare the result.
Whether you are able to publish Slides from Windows 7 and Office 2013 32-bit.
Whether this issue occurres for all slide files with Office 2013.
Please create a new slide in PowerPoint 2013, and check if it could be uploaded into a new Slide library.
In addition,  Office Web Apps (as part of SharePoint 2010) allow SharePoint users to view and edit Office documents (Word, PowerPoint, Excel etc.) from within the browser. Typically we can click on a link to a PowerPoint, for example in a document library,
and be taken to a new page to present PowerPoint.

  • Cannot publish to Robohelp Server 8

    Hello All,
Well let me start by stating that I am a systems administrator but I have had no experience setting up Apache, Tomcat or Robohelp Server.
This bomb has been dropped in my lap cause I am typically the goto guy. The company has an intranet site with a help section that was created and currently resides on a windows 2000 server with RSC 2.3, and RoboEngine 4.1.  I have been tasked with setting up new server which will be windows 2003 server 32 bit OS.
Ok. I have followed all the Robohelp Server 8 getting started instructions (page5-6) on how to setup Apache Web Server with the Tomcat servlet for Robohelp server 8. I feel darn near 100% that I have gotten all of that correct. In other words everything tests correctly.  I.e., going to http://localhost shows me the proper index.htm.  I can access the tomcat manager using default UN and PW.
So I installed Robohelp Server 8 on the F:\Adobe RoboHelp Server 8\robo\server partition.  I did create more than one context but am just trying to publish to the default robohelp.  I create 3 areas.  I do see the context's listed in Tomcat Manager and they all show as started.
I have created a simple project with one help file in Robohelp HTML software.  I can generate it and it looks fine. I then configure the the WebHelp Pro Single Source Layout to publish to  Robohelp Test Server, server *****WUIT002 (my test server), robohelp adds /robohelp/server automatically. I use admin, admin as username and PW.  I attempt to select an area but get the error 'Unable to get area list from server'. Ok. that is not a good sign.  But I save and attempt to publish anywho...to no avail(of course). I receive the message "Warning: Failed to publish to "Robohelp Test Server". reason: Unable to connect to the RoboHelp server on *****wuit002. If RoboHelp Server is not being used, generate WebHelp instead. More information on RoboHelp Server is available in the help file.."
I have looked at permissions to the partition and Robohelp server directory. I have basically completely opened them up just to see if that was the issue and I am still having a problem. Help Please. There is so little info out there regarding this product.

    Hello John,
Thank you for your help. Hopefully you can shed some insight into this for me.
Here is the log directory zipped up.

Oh, one more thing, uvwaves. Regarding your note about, " I attempt to select an area but get the error 'Unable to get area list from server'."
I realize this is disconcerting, but usually not a problem and may be ignore (as you did.) If left blank, the "general" area is assigned by default.
However, the other error, "Warning: Failed to publish to "Robohelp Test Server" is quite another matter and hopefully the logs will help me.

  • Error message when publishing to Word 2003 from Captivate v5.5

When trying to publish a project to Word 2003 that was created in Captivate v5.5, the author is getting the following message:
Publishing failed. Please ensure that MS Word is installed and that the document is not opened and repeat.
(Translated from German to English for this thread).
The author assures me they have Word 2003 installed, and the document is not open as it has not been created yet.
I tried it on my PC with v5.5 and Word 2003 and it worked OK for me.
Any ideas why it might not work for others ?

  • Header and Footer publishing to Word

I'm using Robohelp 9 and having trouble modifying default header and footer when publishing to Word 2010.
    Here's what i did:
I created a Robohelp "Master Page" and added a header and footer to it.
used single source "printed documentation" to publish to Word docx
The published Word doc still has the robohelp default header and footer.
Is there something i need to do to specify the master page when i publish? i don't see an option to do it or can't find this step in the help documentation.
Something else i tried: I created a header and footer in the Word template i use for printed documentation, however, it gets replaced by the robohelp default header and footer. This is actually the solution i would like to use so i can just specify a word template and go.
Also, it looks like i can create multiple "master pages" for a single robohelp project and then apply them, but i don't see how to apply them.

    Hi there
Indeed you may use multiple master pages. But these are normally applied to individual topics. And only a single Master Page may be associated with a topic at any given time.
The problem here is that you are expecting the headers and footers from Master Pages to carry over into the world of dead trees. (Printed Documentation) And that isn't something you may do.
If you want headers and footers in Printed Docs, you will need to specify them using Word after you create Printed Documentation from RoboHelp.
    Cheers... Rick

I updated to os x 10.8.5 today and now I cannot publish changes to my web page through iweb.  iweb crashes every time I try to publish

    First do the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
NOTE:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
