Cannot send btinternet email

Apologies if this a repeat.
Cannot send email from btinternet using Mail in OS X 10.10.1 on iMac (mid2007).  Keep getting message "Mail cannot send your password securely to the server." No problem with receiving email. Seems to have started since upgrading to Yosemite.

Dear Joe
Thank you for your reply.  I have now solved the problem (I think).  The answer is instructive.  I had a long on-line Chat with the btinternet help desk.  They told me  to use PORT 465 on the Outgoing Mail Server and to select SSL and to use my btinternet password (which also accesses my account with BT).
Under Mail, Preferences you get a list of Accounts and when I select Btinternet, Account Information you can put in a password for the Incoming Mail Server BUT there is no obvious way of doing so for the Outgoing Mail Server.  Under Advanced you can input the Port (shown as 993) but it does not say whether this is for incoming or outgoing server. By accident I found that if you go to the drop down menu for Outgoing Server under Account Information and then select Edit SMTP Server List for Btinternet, then Advanced, you get the Port and SSL  selection and Password for the Outgoing Server.  I put these right and it has worked.  I don't know why the settings for the outgoing server are hidden away so well.  It does not help.
One final oddity with the Mail application. If you select Mail, Accounts rather than Preferences you get a list of accounts.  When I select btinternet and input the btinternet password that works with the Mail Preferences route, it does not recognise it or my username.  If you ignore the problem and just Cancel, it all seems to work.  So these two routes into the account list appear to be different.
I don't know whether this is due to a glitch in the Apple software or a problem with Btinternet.  In March this year BT switched from working with Yahoo!, called BtYahoo!, to become BtMail and that seems to have caused problems. Mail on my Mac still has references to Yahoo in the accounts although my account has definitely been transferred to BtMail.
Sorry about the essay.
Yours confused but relieved.
Colin

  • Since upgraded phone to 2.0, cannot send out email

I recently upgraded my iphone to 2.0 (mistake!) and now cannot send out email from my iphone. I have tried deleting all my email accounts and re-setting it up on my iphone rather than syncing with my computer but it still will not send out email. I can send out email from my computer and used the same settings for both...

Also having mixed success sending mail on the iPhone, which is disappointing because I haven't had to send a lot of messages. Out of about 6 attempts, I've had two replies completely disappear. They weren't sent, they weren't in the outbox to send later. They just disappeared. One was while on my home network, the other was while I was traveling. I am very bothered that the emails aren't saved to try and send later.

  • Cannot send an email from my alias Mobile Me account from the iPhone.

I have a Mobile Me email account which works perfectly on my Mac and iPhone. I created a an Alias Mobile Me Account on the web.
I am able to create a new email from the alias account on the Mac.
The iPhone will not recognize the alias account, I cannot add it or sync the account.
I cannot send an email from my alias Mobile Me account from the iPhone.

To all frustrated MobileMe alias owners who want to send email from iPhone - please go to the feedback area of the apple.com and leave messages regarding this issue. I had a lengthy conversation with a tech support guy who agreed that this is a needed fix - he said to initiate a grass roots effort - and that by all of us leaving messages it will eventually get attention and fixed. Why would Apple give us the ability to create alias's, use them on mobileme website, on our mac mail programs, but NOT the iPhone, which is the MOBILE device. Silly. Please protest!! Thanks.

  • I cannot send an email from my iphone

I have entered all of the information for my in-coming and outgoing server into my iphone 4s.  However, I cannot send an email  and the message reads as follows "The sender address XX.net was rejected by the server.

Did you check your user name and password in Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...tap your email account, tap SMTP, then tap the primary server name.  Make sure the settings there are correct.

  • I cannot send an email from my iPad 2? No problem receiving, why does this happen? Have tried the suggestions for setting up email and after doing the sync mail through iTunes receiving worked great but still cannot send? Any help would be great

I cannot send an email from my iPad 2? No problem receiving, why does this happen? Have tried the suggestions for setting up email and after doing the sync mail through iTunes receiving worked great but still cannot send? Any help would be great!

The fact that you can receive means you have a valid e mail address, and have established the connection to the incoming server, so all of that works.  Since the send does not work, that means your outgoing server is rejecting whatever settings you used formthe outgoing set up.  Try them again.
Google your particular isp, and ipad and many times you will find the exact settings needed for your isp.  Or tell us here, and soneone else may be on the same isp.  Some mail services need you to change a port, or have a unique name for the outgoing server.
    Kep trying.

  • I have a large PDF that I cannot send via email because of its size, 76 MB. How do I shrink this file or convert it to another format so I can email this, less than 20MB? Thanks for your help

I have a large PDF that I cannot send via email because of its size, 76 MB. How do I shrink this file or convert it to another format so I can email this, less than 20MB? Thanks for your help

Open the file in Preview and select "Save as..." from the File menu. Select "Reduce File Size" from the Quartz Filter menu and save. The size probably won't be reduced enough, though. You may have to split the file into several parts and mail them separately. Or upload it to a web server and send the link.

  • TS1398 My email (hotmail) is frozen.   I cannot send the email I just finished typing.

My email (hotmail) is frozen.   I cannot send the email I just finished typing.   I have turned my iPad off, I finished a sync and powered wi-fi off and on.  Nothing seems to work.  Any suggestions?

Quit the mail app and restart the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Or if needed, reboot the iPad.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • CANNOT SEND ANY EMAILS!!!!

    Hi,
I finally downloaded the desktop manager last week and backed up my berry (after a year!). At the same time it updated my system to a newer version. Since then, my battery life is greatly diminished (one day only) and I cannot send ANY emails. I can send text messages, but not emails. I select "send" and the email just sits there. I also can't select "save draft". I can only select "delete", but then it warns me that I haven't saved (which is so annyoing, since I can't save!!) Help!!!!!

Do a simple reboot on the BlackBerry in this manner:
With the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot. A reboot in this manner is prescirbed for most gltiches and operating system errors, and you will lose no data on the device doing this.
Now try sending an email again. If still no lunck:
On your BlackBerry device, go to:
    1. Options > Advanced > Host Routing Table > Menu > Register.
    2. Resend your service books from your carrier BIS site:
    From your handheld device:   http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB15402
Go to the Personal Email Set Up icon and log in. Then under Help!, select Service Books, then select Send service Books.
    From your desktop PC:  http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02830
North American Carriers - scroll down to select your carrier
WorldWide Carriers - Find your carrier on the list
    3. With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot. This reboot, even if you have already done this, is often needed to install the service books.

  • TS3276 I cannot get my outgoing SMTP server togo "On-Line" and cannot send out emails.

I cannot get my outgoing SMTP server togo "On-Line" and cannot send out emails.

I had this problem too but I fixed it today.
Go to the mail menu preferences.
    Click on account in question.
Select the outgoing SMTP mail server (the one offline), this has a drop down list, click on the edit server list.
    Click on the advanced button.
Make sure use default port is checked.
Make sure SSL is unchecked (unless your provider requires it, mine does not work with it checked).
    Have authentication set to password.
User name should be your email address for that account.
Make sure correct password is entered (for some strange reason my password box was blank on this account).
    Push the ok button.
For me the SSL box was checked and the password was missing. This is strange to me considering I have unchecked the SSL Box on the mail preference advance page. Also, I went through the complete set up account when I first created the account, why was my outgoing server password box empty?
    I hope this helps.

Try going into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > select the account > account name , tap on SMTP (under the 'Outgoing Mail Server' heading) and then tap on your Primary Server and try entering your email account and password and see if it then works
