Cannot send mail-Comcast port?

I can recieve mail, but cannot send it.
I synced my phone 4.0 last night and I believe it changed my email settings....it has done this in the past, and I think it had something to do with the port number.
My number(995) matches my computer....I have tried 465/SSL and 500-something(I can't remember now) and it does not work.
I have turned the phone off and back on.
Please help:)

Port 995 is for the incoming mail server. By default with a POP account, the incoming mail server port is 110. If the email account provider for the account supports SSL which is for security/encryption, the default port is changed to 995 for the incoming mail server.
This has nothing to do with the account's outgoing mail server or SMTP server which is used for sending messages with the account and is separate from the account's incoming mail server.
If Comcast does not have an authenticated SMTP server, you will have problems sending messages with the account's SMTP server unless you are connected to an available wi-fi network that has Comcast as the internet service provider for the wi-fi network.
Do you have sync mail accounts selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes? If not, the email account settings on your iPhone are not touched when syncing your iPhone with iTunes.
If this is selected, deselect this followed by selecting Apply.
Follow this by deleting and manually recreating the account on your iPhone. If successful, do not reselect sync mail accounts under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.

Problem: Cannot send mail unless Password is transmitted insecurely & Port is set to 587.. Can receive mail but can't send Code 501..
Need help with T-bird.. My OS is Win XP-64..Have been using Mozilla for about 10 years with little or no problems.. This happened when I upgraded to 3.17.. Spent hours on T-Bird diagnostics web site.. Called Comcast & talked to a net tech.. he ran some tests on his end & had me log into my Comcast e-mail account & all worked well,, so he concluded the problem was in T-Bird.. He had me change my port to 587 & disable connection security & authentication to none & I was able to send mail.. That was all he could do.. Comcast was working.. the problem is in T-Bird.. Can any one help with this problem.. I don't want to send mail with my password transmitted insecurely..
    Thanks
    Richard

It was not intended to be "snide". You said two separate things that at face value would be out of the ordinary.
I considered if it might be a typo for 31.7. Since 31.5 is the current formal release, I would have to thank you for volunteering to test a pre-release beta version. If it was truly 3.1.7 then it would appear that you have chosen, or have become stuck with a somewhat ancient version. In either case it's harder to reach out to you with any meaningful comments or advice. However I do watch various other sites and newsgroups and I don't see a clamour of distressed users, so it seems fair to suppose that this feature isn't actually broken in 31.7.
And you said XP 64. XP is obsolete and no longer supported and if there is a 64-bit version, then again you have set yourself apart from the mainstream.
I had a look at the comcast site and found some puzzling recommendations. Some users come here asking how to set up a secured connection in Thunderbird when it isn't offered by the server. Comcast are different, in that they mention the ports 143 and 587, and also 993 and 465. So far so good, in that security is actually on offer, but they also suggest that you enable SSL, regardless of which port is being used. It would be unusual and unconventional to offer TLS or SSL on ports 143 and 587. STARTTLS would be more credible on these ports.
Have you tried IMAP on 993 and SMTP on 465? SMTP on 587 with SSL, or TLS, is not impossible, but is improbable.

  • Conflict between MAIL and AOL - cannot send! same port?

I just spent an hour on the phone with a very nice Apple tech and it turns out that the reason I cannot send mail (I can, intermittently) on my Mac mail application is that it conflicts (he believes) with aol, i.e. perhaps they are sharing the same port.
The error message says mail cannot be delivered on Port 25 - but when I sign out of aol, mail works!
Is there a way to adjust the port aol uses, or make some other change with aol so I can have both app's open at the same time?

I don't use the aol browser, but I do like to sign on directly
to check my "other" (i.e. aol) email, use the address book, etc.
Apple provides what is called the AOL Service Assistant which will transfer (from the AOL program) your AOL email account or accounts to the Mail application, AOL address book contacts to the Address Book application and I believe it will also transfer AOL bookmarks to Safari so you can dump using what is a VERY old program for OS X which I doubt AOL will provide another update for.
I have no idea if it is possible to change the port used by the AOL program and I'm not even sure if the AOL program uses an SMTP server for sending messages with an AOL account.

  • Send mail Comcast

Sudddenly I cannot send mail through Apple Mail using Comcast account on either iMac or Macbook Pro using 10.8.3.  Oddly, neither iPhone or iPad is affected.  Incoming is fine, but I get the message that mail cannot connect to server when attempting to send message.  Connection doctor gives green light to all connections.  I have done soft and hard resets of modem and router, cleaned caches, and repaired permissions.  I have gone through the scripted Comcast routine with 3 different foreign Comcast agents.  We can find no problem with settings and have tried numerous ports with no success.  Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Wow. That sounds frustrating. You sound like you have already tried just about everything. Probably I don't have to tell you that it is likely the Comcast people you worked with are not very expert with macs.
If this were happening to me I would be trying things like: recreate the mail account from scratch, and experiment with the SMTP ports.  Out of sheer desperation, I would even go so far as to reset the PRAM/NVRAM and reset the SMC.  To help rule out bizarre third party software conflicts, I would try from a different mac user account (i.e., create a new user account on your computer via System Preferences, Users & Groups - not with comcast), and I would try it in Safe Mode (hold shift while starting up).

  • Cannot send mail error

All of a sudden I keep getting CANNOT SEND MAIL message. The connection to the smtp.comcast.net server has failed.
I've re-entered the parameters, deleted and re-added the email account, added another server account...nothing works. I can't send mail.

    AlexMaeda,
    This article has more information:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305634
As for an email provider allowing customers to relay outside of their network, many email providers, set up an authenticating SMTP server on different port. The article above includes information on specifying the port to use.
For example, .Mac accounts can use port 587 as discussed in this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75124
You may want to check with your email provider if they offer an authenticating smtp server for people who are traveling or using mobile devices. Many do so without any additional cost, some may charge for access to that service.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Cannot Send Mail using AIM account.

I can receive mail fine but when I try to send mail I get the following message:
Cannot send mail using the server smtp.aim.com:EmilyLozano.
Use the pop-up menu below to try a different outgoing mail server. All messages will use this server until you quit Mail or change your network settings.
Message from: Emily Lozano <[email protected]>
I left for a trip a few days ago, came back and now for no apparent reason cannot send mail as I always have. I have reconfigured the port to 587 and that did not help. Any suggestions? (I can send and receive fine via the web, but I really hate it.)

I'm glad you got it figured out. So many times people on this forum sit around waiting for help when they could have retraced their steps, like you did, to figure out the source of the problem.

  • Cannot send mail from iPhone using Godaddy account/email

Was working perfectly until recently. Incoming mail still ok.
Now get error message when sending mail "Cannot Send Mail - The connection to the outgoing server "smtpout.secureserver.net" failed.
Have tried various fixes including using cwmx.com server, other ports and SSL on and off but no luck.
Have spoken to Godaddy support but they can't help as say must be local issue with iPhone.
    Is GoDaddyGuy out there?

    SizzyB and Joe,
I've read over your posts and see that you've both tried a few different troubleshooting steps with our support. The next step would be removing the whole email address from your iPhone and setting it back up. When you set up the email address, you should use the step by step walk through instructions available at http://help.godaddy.com/article/3423.
SizzyB, please note that cwmx.com is an AT&T specific server. Your UK provider might list a comparable SMTP server as a default or you might need to contact them to get their settings.
Joe, I would also like to note that you would specifically need to have our Unlimited email plan to utilize the IMAP service feature.
If either of you have further issues, please post the full details (including any errors messages you receive) and we'll continue to work on a solution.

  • Cannot send mail & Connection error after 2.0

    Hey guys,
I'm running 2.0 on an 8GB 2G iPhone. After updating to 2.0 in the mail app im getting two errors. The first one is "Connection to outgoing server "smtp.comcast.net" failed" and the second (when I'm trying to send mail) is "Cannot send mail. The sender address was invalid".
For the first error, I remember this being a problem when I first got the phone in January, but I cannot for the life of me remember what I changed in the settings so that it would work.
The second error is new with 2.0.
Any info or suggestions are greatly appreciated
    Cheers

I am having the exact same problem. Can't send any emails. Get the message "Can't send mail. Recipient address invalid" or something like that. I have reviewed all the troubleshooting information. This did not happen until I upgraded to 2.0. I am using Edge with a pop account on an original iphone. Any help would be appreciated!!

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • IPad receives mail just fine, but cannot send mail

I am using a POP3 server with shaw (the server for both incoming and outgoing mail is shawmail.vc.shawcable.net) and, as stated in the title, my iPad will not send any mail. It refuses to interact with the SMTP server. It says "Cannot Send Mail    The connection to the outgoing server "shawmail.vc.shawcable.net" failed. Additional Outgoing Mail Servers can be configured in Settings > Mail, Contacts Calendars."
I have already tried everything that I have found already suggested on these forums and others, including inputting both a username and password for the SMTP server, changing the port to 25, and restarting my iPad after each of these changes. All of the settings on the iPad match those on my mail program perfectly (which works without a hitch, and has been for some time now.) I am connected by Wi-Fi to my home network, the exact same router I use to get my mail on my personal computer.
One other detail: whenever I change the settings for the SMTP server in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, it says that the SMTP server does not support password verification, which is just plain untrue. What is wrong with my iPad?

What did your email provider, Shaw, say or suggest about settings needed for the iPad?

  • TS3899 Cannot Send Mail

I get the error titled "Cannot Send Mail" - A copy has been placed in your Outbox. The recipient was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying.
How doi I correct this so I can send emails again?
    Dibrylo

I am having the same problem, started today 12/2.  I can receive emal, but not send.  I am getting an error message:  "Unable to send email  A copy has been placed in your Outbox.  The sender address [email protected] was rejected by the server."
Earlier I was getting a very strange error message about the SMTP server.  My user name was in the middle of the SMTP.comcast.net string.  That cleared when I deleted and set the account up again.
I have deleted and set the account up twice, with re-boots in between.  I have called support at Comcast, but they want to charge for tech support because this device is not supported.  I am using iPhone 4S.
I can receive fine, and email works on the MS Windows-based desk top.
Any suggestions?  Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  • Cannot send mail with mavericks

Hi I'm using an iMac 2011 27 in. Shawcable is my ISP. I can receive mail. I cannot send mail. I get the error "cannot connect to account myaccount, enter password for user myname" If I go into accounts in mail prefs all smtp accounts show as offline.  I have been over all my settings with shaw they say problem is on my end. They say my computer isn't connecting. Anyone have any ideas?
    jmickey42

Without in details on what you have tried, I'll throw out some things:
On the SMTP server settings, use a custom port number instead of using the default ports.
Make sure you don't have any firewall, net-nanny, or other such network blockers running.
In Mail, Open Connection Doctor from the Window menu.
Click Show Detail, then Check Again.
Note any message noted in the stoplight section, and any related to the account in the details.
You may want to sanitize any of the messages from the Details so that it doesn't give away an email account or other identifying info.

  • IPhone 3G cannot send mail - Sender address invalid

I can receive email but cannot send it. The error message is "CANNOT SEND MAIL the sender address was invalid". I have turned off Wi-Fi and as well as SSL. Does anyone know a fix?

    Was it working before?
Verify that the ISP you are using is not blocking SMTP port 25. If so, try switching your Outgoing SMTP server to cwmx.com (AT&T SMTP server). This option will only send mail over 3G or EDGE.
Check out this article for some suggestions as well: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1426

  • Cannot send mail but get receive mail

Cannot send mail but can receivr mail

I had this problem, too, when I took my laptop to work and tried to send mail using their wireless settings.  (I have never had this problem with wireless internet at home.)  After a lot of research it appeared to be a port issue.  Apple and Yahoo directed me to contact AT&T, my email server provider, to inquire if there was another port setting or off-line port that could be used.  This turned out to be too complicated because I had to get my boss's wireless codes, etc.  I got around the whole thing by logging into my email through Yahoo rather than Apple's Mail program.  This allowed me to send emails at work with no problems.  Hope this helps.
