Cannot Send Mail: The sender address was invalid

I continually keep getting this prompt after every single email I send. The sender address is verified and is valid...HELP!!

This error message is not accurate.
This means there is a problem with the account's outgoing mail server.
Most, if not all internet service providers block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network or not provided by the ISP being used for your internet connection at the time unless the SMTP server is authenticated. A cell phone carrier's network is no exception. This restriction is part of an overall effort to prevent spam emanating from the ISP's domain.
Who is the email account provider for this account? Do you know if the account has an authenticated SMTP server?
What country are you located in and who is your cell phone carrier?

  • Getting "Cannot Send Mail - One of the Recipient  Addresses was Invalid"

Mail was working fine under version 1. Upgraded my original iPhone to version 2 and couldn't send emails. Get "CANNOT SEND MAIL. ONE OF THE RECIPIENT ADDRESSES WAS INVALID. OK" message whenever I attempt to respond to an incoming email or when sending a new email. Sometimes "Sending" progress bar goes all the way to the end, but I still get this error message and mail is NOT sent. This is still the case after I upgraded to 2.02 HELP!

I have since removed the email account and added it again. I tried this several times and came to the realization that the Apple iPhone software was not setting the account up properly. I saved the account even though I was warned by the software that it was not working properly. I then went ahead and carefully edited all the settings and made sure that they matched EXACTLY with those in MS Outlook. I also set Authentication to Password on both incoming at outgoing servers.
I finally got it working. What a pain!!

  • IPhone 3G Cannot Send Mail.  The sender address was invalid.

All of a sudden, I cannot send mail. I get the message "Cannot Send Mail" The sender address was invalid.
I have reset the phone in hopes of resolving the problem. That did not work.
The mail that I'm sending to IS a valid address; I'm trying to RESPOND.
    Please help.

The configuration and use of any outgoing server address (SMTP) may not be supported due to several factors including, but not limited to, the inability for the outgoing server (SMTP) to authenticate users (whether by IP or username/password) that are not directly connected to that Internet Service Providers(ISPs) network.
This is usually your HOME wi-fi and you are not connected to it because you are on your iPhone away from the house. This is mainly done to prevent unsolicited users from sending SPAM via the ISP's servers.
An alternative is to use ATT SMTP Server (for US) when you are on the 3G or data network for the carrier and not on your home wi-fi. So enable ATT SMTP server under Other SMTP servers under your Mail's account settings on the iPhone.
If you are interested you can obtain that information directly from the email provider. This article has a great temple that you can use to ask all necessary information from the provider including "If you use your ISP’s own email service (instead of a third-party such as Gmail), sometimes it may not work if you use another Internet access point, such as a cafe with wireless Internet. Ask your email provider if the settings they give you will work on other networks."

  • Mail problem - "Sender address was invalid"

So I get this message from time to time: then I try to send an e-mail from the mail app on my iPod Touch, it'll come back to me saying "The Sender Address was invalid" and won't send it. However, it's gotten worse of late; previously, I would hit the refresh button and then it would send, but recently that has stopped working. For about 45 minutes this morning I tried to send an e-mail and it just wouldn't send. I ended up having to log into my e-mail manually (through Safari on my iPod) to get it to send (which worked). However, I would like to know if anyone else has encountered this problem, if anyone knows what causes it, if anyone knows how to solve it, and if it would be worthwhile submitting a bug report to Apple about this. Thanks.

With so many threads and indy websites posting this problem, I'm not sure where's best to post my solution. So it's here and I hope someone gets help from it.
Same thing - "sender address blah blah blah" and none of the fixes worked. So I deleted the outgoing server (or so I thought!) and restarted the iPod. The server was not listed.
Then I reentered the information and used Port 25 (I had tried that before but went back to the default port of 587 before deleting the old server).
I connected to my WiFi and my mail went thru immediately. But what was interesting was the 'old' server showed up as the backup with port 587. I don't dare touch a thing - it's working!
BTW, I am using my own website and mail servers (hosted elsewhere).
Interestingly, if the iPod is accessing the mail servers, the computer access is blocked. Probably my host no allowing multiple connections from the same location, but I've done that before with my laptop and other Macs here w/o a hitch. But really a big deal, but interesting.
Thanks to all who have posted in this thread and all the other threads. Together, we ARE tech support! But the Apple guys and gals are great as well. And this iPod Touch is AMAZING!

  • E-mail error:  Cannot Send Mail:  The sender address was invalid

I can receive e-mail but cannot send it. Everything goes to my outbox. I did not change any settings. Nothing has changed that I know of. For months I could send e-mail -- now I cannot. I even e-mailed myself, and it says the sender address is invalid. Can anyone help? Thanks!

The "Recipient addresses are invalid" message is misleading.
Most ISP's don't allow you to send email through their SMTP server unless you are A) on their network (e.g. connected via wi-fi to a cable connection provided by your ISP) or B) you authenticate to their SMTP server.
On Blueyonder here in the UK (my ISP), you can send via their SMTP server from the iPhone over 3G as long as you authenticate to it. I setup my Mac mail to authenticate on outbound email sent via smtp.blueyonder.co.uk and it works fine. I then synced the mail settings to my iPhone and it works fine (although a little slow to send).
Alternatively your cellular provider usually runs their own SMTP server to which you will also have to authenticate, and you can send through it. For the iPhone in the UK O2 are the exclusive provider, and they have the smtp.02.co.uk gateway.

  • "The sender address was invalid": cannot send emails

I am suddenly getting this message--though my email info is set up properly in the settings. I am using two Optonline accounts and cannot send from them. Can anyone help?

I am having the same exact problem, what I know about it I have posted in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1730086&tstart=45
Summary, for my Verizon e-mail account, my outgoing authentication method needs to be "password", but no matter how many times I select password
    (settings>mail,contacts, calenders>account>smtp>primary server>authentication> password),
The setting does not stick and the phone reverts to "MD5 challenge response". As you can see above, to change the setting requires clicking through 6 menus, so it is very frustrating to change to the correct authentication method, to see the setting change back as soon as you back up even just one menu.

  • "One of the recipient addresses was invalid...

I can send a new email, but when I try to reply to any email, I get this error message and the email just sits in the outbox.

I get this same message even with new mails. And the recipient addresses are all valid. This suddenly started to happen after a long time of everything working just fine.
Would love to find an answer to this problem.

  • The sender address was invalid...

I know this has been discussed before here, but after trying various 'solutions', I'm still having the same message pop up and am unable to send mail from my iPhone.
After digging a little deeper on here I read that:
"The configuration and use of any outgoing server address (SMTP) may not be supported due to several factors including, but not limited to, the inability for the outgoing server (SMTP) to authenticate users (whether by IP or username/password) that are not directly connected to that Internet Service Providers (ISPs) network."
This makes sense (although, at the same time makes +no sense+, if you see what I mean) and would explain why it works when I'm at home using my WiFi connection and nowhere else.
BUT... there must be a solution.
I'm in the UK on the 02 network, I realise most responses here are US based but there must be some UK folks who have had the same problem and found an answer.
Please help... as always, all (sensible) responses appreciated.
    Cheers.

  • Sender Address was invalid

I use a Microsoft Outlook Express Mail account through roadrunner @wi.rr.com
but I cant send mail from my phone...help please

Do you have a wi-fi network at home with RR being used for your internet connection via your wireless network?
If so, you should be able to send messages with your RR email account and SMTP server when connected to the internet with RR. Most ISPs - including AT&T with their cellular network, block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network or that isn't provided by the ISP being used for your internet connection unless the SMTP server is authenticated.
A Time Warner/RoadRunner email account does not have an authenticated SMTP server.
Did you manually create your RR email account with the iPhone's mail client, or did you transfer the email account settings from your computer to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process - which is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes?

i cannot send emails. i get the sender address was rejected by the server

    Greetings.
Same issue...... can't determine what username and password are ?
But, went thru process @ apple.com/support and changed port to 25.  :::::
"Relaying denied" or "Email address rejected by the server" when you try to send email
This error indicates that either an email address is incorrect or your settings aren't correct for your current connection. Make sure the email address is correct for messages in the Outbox or try a different port:
If you're on a Wi-Fi network connected to the same network as your email domain, such as your Cable or DSL provider, try port 25:
Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Tap your email account, then tap Account.
Scroll down and tap Outgoing Mail Server.
Tap Primary Server, then tap Server Port.
Delete the current port and enter 25.
    Tap Done.
Now my iPhone5s is frozen in the "verifying" mode.  I can not stop it???????????????
    Now what?
    thank you

  • TS3899 I drafted an email, hit my home button and went to Safari before sending the email or saving it as a draft. When I returned to mail, the email I was working on cannot be found. How can I recover it?

I drafted an email, hit my home button and went to Safari before sending the email or saving it as a draft. When I returned to mail, the email I was working on cannot be found. How can I recover it?

I've found that since I installed iOS7, I've had this problem a lot. In iOS6, I was initially cautious about leaving a draft open and unsaved while I used other apps, but soon found it was quite reliable and they were always still there when I returned to Mail.
With the first version of iOS7, the draft was almost certain to be gone when I returned. Since iOS7.0.4 it's a lot better, but not reliable enough to trust. I've got into the habit of using Cancel/Save Draft *every* time I need to use Safari, etc, before continuing with an email I'm typing. It's just not worth having to retype it.
Note that when you return to the Mail app, you don't have to go to the Drafts folder to find your draft again. Just tap and hold the New Message icon, and a list of drafts will appear. The most recent one will be at the top. I've found that this tip makes the idea of having to cancel, save and reopen much less tedious.
