Cannot uninstall or install itunes!

I logged onto itunes last night and it asked if I wanted to upgrade to the newest version. So I clicked "OK" and my computer froze up during the installation of the update. I had to do a hard boot and when I tried to install the update again it gave me an error message saying "Cannot run itunes some files required are missing. please re-install itunes" (or something like that), so I did an uninstall and halfway through the uninstall the same message popped up and wouldn't complete the uninstall! I went into C-drive and manually removed all folders and files related to Quicktime and itunes. I rebooted the PC and tried to install the new version of itunes again. It installed Quicktime, but the same error message popped up when it tried to install itunes.
What should I do now?
Thank you.
God Bless

I've just wasted 5 hours on this problem...one you all helped me solve. The delete programs did not do the trick, nor did the Windows utility. I basically manually deleted all of the Quicktime files - emptied the trash and rebooted, as suggested.
Thanks for your input, but jeez, why can't Apple provide this support? Oh yeah, they created the problem and you Windows geniuses solved it - for free.
Thanks again. Will I ever "upgrade" Itunes again?

Should the advice above not fix things for you...
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

I cannot uninstall or install the latest version of iTunes, and I cannot activate itTunes via the desktop shortcut. When I try, it says that the application is only available for installed products, even though iTunes is installed on my computer. Anybody else have this problem?

with that one, let's try the following procedure.
first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.

  • Cannot uninstall or install iTunes 9.1

Hi, I am trying to uninstall iTunes 9.1 since there was an error and I could not upgrade to 9.2 but it won't let me. I always get the following error:
" Error writing to file: C:\Config.Msi\4df069.rbf. Verify that you have access to that directory. "
I also cannot repair/reinstall iTunes. In fact I can no longer even open iTunes as it says it cannot find Apple Application Support (I deleted that when trying to uninstall iTunes).
Can someone please help me? Thanks!

  • Cannot uninstall or install iTunes - help!

I had iTunes 8.0 installed on a computer. Tried uninstalling and it won't. I get the error message:
"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package "iTunes.msi" in the box below".
I try the other "alternate path" but that doesn't work. I have tried uninstalling using Revo Uninstaller and CCLeaner and it doesn't uninstall. I have tried downloading iTunes 8.0 from apple.com and it won't even install it now. Another error message I get, when I try the alternate path is:
"The path C:Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer\Installer Cache\iTunes 8.0.1.11\iTunes.msi cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package iTunes.msi in a folder from which you can install the product iTunes".
    Help!

What you need to do is to uninstall it using the Microsoft Uninstall Cleanup Utility.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Using this program usually eliminates all issues and error messages with the uninstalling of the iTunes program. Make sure you uninstall the following programs:
    1) Apple Mobile Device Support
    2) Apple Software Updates
    3) Quicktime
    4) iTunes
Once all those are removed using the Microsoft Uninstall Cleanup Utility then you can go back to www.itunes.com and download/install the setup file again.

What else can I do.  Cannot connect any of our iphones or ipods to itunes because of this error.

    I have edited the registery,
We'd better have a closer look at the keys to see what's going on.
Can you post a screenshot of the contents of the key you've been editing, please? Include all of the regedit screen, including the left-hand column. Save the screenshot to an image file, and insert the image file in a reply by clicking the wee camera icon at the top of the reply window.

trying to install itunes on win 8.1.  keep getting error apple application support not found.  asks me to uninstall and install itunes.  i tried several times and keep getting same error.

With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR suitable for your PC (there's a 32-bit Windows version and a 64-bit Windows version):
    http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you? If so, see if iTunes will launch without the error now.
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • Wiped our old iPad 1 clean, now can't install iOS from iTunes.  iTunes does not "see" the devise.  Tried uninstalling and installing iTunes on laptop.  Also bought new USB cable.  The iPad is charging, but that's all it does.

Wiped our old iPad 1 clean, now can't install iOS from iTunes using laptop PC (W Vista).  iTunes does not "see" the device.  Tried uninstalling and installing iTunes on laptop.  Also bought new USB cable.  The iPad is charging, but that's all it does.  Just want to get it operating again for browsing and e-reading.

OK.  You merely erased the content and settings.  The IOS is still there.
If it has NEVER been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures.  From what you've already stated, my guess is that you'll end up with Recovery Mode described in the last paragraph.
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, read this.

  • Does anyone know how to uninstall/re-install iTunes on Mountain Lion?  I can't hear music in the "Store", but I can in my Library?

I can not hear music in iTunes when I select a song for play in the "Store", but I can when I select them from my Library?  I can hear music offered in "iTunes Preview", just not in the actual store.  Contacted Apple Support and was advised to uninstall/re-install iTunes, but found you can't do that because it is integral to OSX? I previously downloaded Audirvana software after reading about it in Stereophile Mag.  I could hear Store songs with the original version of Audirvana, and later updated it.  After the update, no audio in the Store.  I've had no luck with email exchanges to date with Audirvana, or with Apple Support.  Any suggestions appreciated...

Try opening Audirvana and in the "Audirvana Plus" menu uncheck "iTunes Integrated Mode".

Under normal circumstances, an uninstall/reinstall doesn't touch your content. (That being said, it's still always a good idea to maintain a current backup at all times in case of disasters of any sort.)

I downloaded the latest version of Itunes and my apple devices are not recognized by my computer.  Looks like it is not downloading the Apple Mobile Device Support for some strange reason.  I uninstalled and installed Itunes about 3 times already, following instructions from Apple Support and situation keeps the same

    Hello, Fercho1965.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your device is not recognized by iTunes and iTunes is updated, I would recommend the steps in the article below.  Start with the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > For Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver.

  • I cannot uninstall or install updated version of iTunes due to "missing .msi file".

I have been having an issue with updating my iTunes for the past month or so, and it turns out my mom is having the same issue. Both of our iPods and iPads immdiatly updated to iTunes 10.7, however both of our computers come up with the same error message saying the iTunes.msi file cant be located. I also cannot uninstall for the same reason. This just started happening about a month ago. I dont understand what happened. When I got to documents however I can see the iTunes setup file right there! Help! Now neither of us can sync.

For those having this same problem, someone else on here had a solution that worked really well if you have Windows. They directed me to a site ---> http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
From there on the righthand side you'll see links indicated by reaccuring double arrows labeled Downloaded locations. Click one of them, proceed to download. Once completed go to Start> All Programs> Windows Install Clean Up.
Click it and find all iTunes files and remove them. After that restart your laptop or PC and then try and download iTunes 10.7 again. It worked out for me really well. (:
