Cannot upload data to serial device using x-on, x-off in Labview but works OK in Hyperterminal

Hello,
I'm trying to write a Labview 7.1 App that will upload a motorola .S28 file to a custom designed piece of hardware. The serial port on the hardware device requires the serial port settings be set to 9600, 8,N,1, none, for general operation and my Labview app is able to send and receive information from the hardware using the NI VISA 4.00 serial read and write routines, so I know that there are no fundamental communications errors.  The general communications also work when I set the com port to 9600, 8,N,1, x-on, x-off.
The problem I'm experiencing is that I can upload calibration files (which require x-on, x-off flow control) in Hyperterminal by:
1. configuring the Hyperterminal session for 9600, 8,N,1, x-on, x-off
2. selecting "Transfer--> Send Text File... when my device prompts me to upload the file.
This works 100% of the time in Hyperterminal, but I cannot accomplish the same upload in my Labview app.
The very first thing my LV app does is to pop up a dialog box to the user prompting him/her to select the desired com port (Visa Resource Name), Baud rate, Data bits, Parity, Stop bits, Flow Control, and allows the user to enable/disable the termination char and to set the termination char (always enabled and set to default 0xA).  The flow control is set to x-on, x-off. This is accomplished using the VISA Configure Serial Port vi.
I have tried using both the VISA Write From File vi and also reading the file to a text variable then using the VISA (serial) Write vi but neither work. The VISA Write From File vi  return count correctly identifies the number of bytes in the file but the hardware never returns it's transfer complete status message (remember this works 100% of the time in Hyperterminal).  Does anyone out there have any advice as to how I can make this work?
Thanks,
Ian

This is going to be a two-part solution, meaning you will need to change the way you read your file and the way you transmit the data.
First, when you read from your file, set the Read VI to read in Line Mode. When you do this, the output of the read will be an array of strings rather than a single string. It will basically read the file until it hits the CR/LF combination, but should strip the terminating characters from each line.
Second, in order to replace the carriage return which was stripped, you can configure VISA to transmit a termination character after each write is performed. In addition to setting the termination character to CR on the Configure Serial Port VI, you will want to use a VISA Property Node to set the Serial::End Mode For Writes properter to use the termination character.
Now, you can simply use a For loop to index through your string array, transmitting each line. You will have eliminated all your manual parsing of the file, which should simplify your application and increase performance. I have included a picture of how this could be done in LabVIEW 8.x. The file I/O interface looks different than it did in 7.1, but the same functionality exists.

    Hi Anuj,
    Thanks for your reply!
I found that the data source is registered on server soa_server1 as follows:

I don't know how to determine which server the DBAdapter is targetted to.
But I found the following information:
    Under Deoloyment->DBAdapter->Monitoring->Outbound Connection Pools
Outbound Connection Pool Server State Current Connections Created Connections
    eis/DB/SOADemo AdminServer Running 1 1
    eis/DB/SOADemo soa_server1 Running 1 1
    eis/DB/soademoDatabase AdminServer Running 1 1
    eis/DB/soademoDatabase soa_server1 Running 1 1
The DbAdapter is related to the following files:
    C:\ Oracle\ Middleware\ home_11gR1\ Oracle_SOA1\ soa\ connectors\ DbAdapter. rar
    C:\ Oracle\ Middleware\ home_11gR1\ Oracle_SOA1\ soa\ DBPlan\ Plan. xml
I unzipped DbAdapter.rar, opened weblogic-ra.xml and found that there's only one data source is registered:

Then I decided to use eis/DB/SOADemo for testing.
For JDeveloper project, after I deployed to weblogic server, it works fine.
But for OSB project referencing wsdl, jca and mapping file from JDeveloper project, still got the same error as follows:

You may need to configure the connection settings in the deployment descriptor (i.e. DbAdapter.rar#META-INF/weblogic-ra.xml) and restart the server. This exception is considered not retriable, likely due to a modelling mistake.
    It almost drive me crazy!!:-(
What's the purpose of 'weblogic-ra.xml' under the folder of 'C:\Oracle\Middleware\home_11gR1\Oracle_OSB1\lib\external\adapters\META-INF'?

  • Unable to capture data from Serial port using LVRT2010 in single core pentium 4 machine

I am using application written in Labview using windows Labview
Runtime environment 2010. Application creates a tunnel to intercept data from
    Serial port.
My problem is, Currently, I am using single core Pentium
processor. When I am trying to intercept the data between COM1 and COM7 (COM 7
is a virtual port) it is not able to capture data.
When I am running Labview RT environment using dual core
processor machine it is running normally. I wonder whether it could be the compatibility issues with
    single core Pentium processor.

    Hi Magnetica
Are both of the machines running the same runtime engine,
    drivers ect?
Have you had RT applications running on this
    machine before?
Is the development computer a 64bit machine?
The processor is a supported model (See link below).

  • Error while uploading data in SAP (me01)using LSMW

    Hi All,
I am using LSMW for the first time.
I am trying to upload data to the Source List transaction (me01) using batch input recording. I created a new recording through LSMW itself. My source structure consists of 5 fields:
    <b>MATNR C(18)
    WERKS C(4)
    VDATU N(8)
    BDATU N(8)
    LIFNR C(10)
    EKORG C(10)</b>
Now the problem is when i try to convert the data, it gives me an error saying
"For type "C",a maximum length specification of 65535 is allowed."
I have noticed that unlike Direct Input method,
using batch input does not give any fields in "Maintain Field Mapping & Conversion Rules". So even if I have my fields in my source structure ,there are no fields to which I can map them to.
I don't know that is how it is when we go with batch input.
My file contain data in following order:
    DANGEROUS GOODS,ABBY,20060801,20060831,30010,TEST
Pls help me to solve this problem.

    Hi Swapna!
You get such an error message, when define a constant and forget the second ':
    g_werks = '1000.  "wrong
    g_werks = '1000'.  "correct
In general: a batch input recording can have fixed values and some variables. You need to define, which fields you like to fill with a variable. Go to the overview of the recordings, open the recording in change mode and assign some variable names to the according batch lines.

  • Cannot upload pictures on Ebay when using Firefox with Windows 8.1 - but works with IE 11

Problem with uploading Photos on Ebay only when Firefox is my Browser - -
Just recently I have noticed I cannot upload pictures anymore using the option STANDARD. I have to use their BASIC option, which is one picture at a time.
When I select STANDARD I find that BROWSE does not respond. My configuration is Windows 8.1, 8gb memory and using the latest Firefox.
Rather oddly it works fine with -
    8.1 + Internet Explorer
    XP + IE
    XP + Firefox
Just this combination - no go.
    Any ideas ?

Had same problem since I updated FF26. Always same old answers that don't work: reset FF, reinitialize, try "mode sans echec" (forgot english name for this), cut off addons, AV & firewall, check in config:about etc.. Think posts concerning this same problem are skattered all around because it has many different issues. And that's why FF has not yet digged to the genuine cause.
My facts: 1) can't browse to send an attachment with an email (but I can with IE); 2) In tools/options if I check "ask where to record" browse doesn't work either. 3) In tools/options if I check "download in such or such file", then it does download in file named "telechargement" ( in french) but I can't choose another file because here again "browse" doesn't work.
I saw a post somewhere talking about problems related to avast (it's my AV). Know if it's true?
I'd be really glad if this could be solved cause I don't intend to change. FF is the best!

  • Unable to communicate with serial device using hex

Hi... I have two instruments, both manufactured by the same company (Inficon), both that provide the same basic function which is rate control of vapor deposition...  Both instruments use RS-232 serial communication (baud rate of 19,200, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity, no flow control).  The only fundamental difference between the two instruments is that the instrument I will call #1 communicates serially using simple ASCII text while the second instrument (#2) communicates using HEX numbers...  Using VISA serial write and read, I have for a long time been successfully communicating with instrument #1...  I send it (serial write) a certain ASCII text command and the instrument responds with a message I successfully read back (serial read)...  That works fine...  Now I have a need to do the same "write a command and read a response" with instrument #2... I'm working with an engineer at the instrument company who has supplied me with the precise HEX messages I need to send, messages he has tested on an identical instrument #2 at his factory but so far, what works for him does not work for me...  I write the HEX string.  I get no errors but also I get NO BYTES available to read at the serial port...  Note, he is NOT using LabVIEW at the factory but is instead using a proprietary serial communication executable the factory uses internally...  He and I have resorted to having me try the simplest HELLO command in HEX that is, in fact, exactly the following
0200480149  <--- in HEX (first two bytes are Length of command with LSB first, MSB second, the next two bytes are the command itself, in this case H1 (HEX for ASCII "H" is 0x48 and this company then uses 0x01 for 1 rather than the actual HEX for ASCII "1" which would be 0x31. Then the last byte is a checksum which is simply the HEX add of the two command bytes, 0x48 + 0x01 = 0x49...
The bottom line I am confident the above 0200480149 (HEX) would work if I was sending it correctly but somehow I am not...
It's the weekend right now and I've been reading NI support posts here and I already have a couple of ideas that I intend to try on Monday...  One is I will try HyperTerminal to see I can communicate that way...  Second, the code I am using is ALMOST identical to the very basic Serial Write/Read code that can be found at (this is being done in LabViEW 7.1)
    C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.1\examples\instr\smplserl.llb\Basic Serial Write and Read.vi
But the ALMOST might be important...  I just noticed that I "Enable Termination Character" set to TRUE (default).  That may be causing my problem so the first thing next week I will set that to FALSE and see if my problem goes away...  But I'm trying to get a jump start on this problem (I am under time pressure to get this working) so I thought I would ask for your help...
I also am not sure how to set up the string control that is inputting this HEX input message...  I have set it as "Normal" and also as "HEX display"...  But either way I set it, I still get "0 bytes at port" when I get to the READ portion of the code so neither "Normal" nor "HEX display" is working for me...
So other than trying HyperTerminal and also trying to set the "Enable Termination Character" to FALSE, can anyone suggest what I might be doing wrong???  I am pretty sure it is a formatting issue (such as sending that termination character) and I need to get it figured out soon... Any other ideas???  Any help would be much appreciated...  thanks.... bob...

Hi...  Thanks for the response...  Find the very simple code I am using attached...  Do note that the string indicator out of the VISA read does open up with default values of 0D0A (CR LF)...  I didn't put those in and I've left them there to show what the defaults were when this code was first saved, just in case you think those values being there matter...  ??  Anyway, again, the code is attached...  Note also I have left the code with its "Enable Termination Char" set to ON (default) in the Configure VISA serial subvi.  I am not at work yet and will set that to FALSE later but you've more or less convinced me that is not going to solve my problem as that is tied to terminating the READ and does not impact the Serial WRITE...  And I appreciated the input on Portmon...  I downloaded it and will give it a try when I get to work which will be soon...  But I wanted to attach the code as you requested...  Holler back if you see anything that might help me with my issue...
Oh, one last thing...  The manual for the instrument explicitly says that it uses "one start bit, 8 data bits, one stop bit, no parity, no flow control"...  What got my attention there is the explicit mention of "one start bit"...  Nothing in Windows or LabVIEW allows me to alter how many start bits there might be so I am assuming ALL serial comm uses one start bit and they just chose to mention it here???  Or might the start bit settings be an issue????  I am just searching...
Last, this code is in LabVIEW 7.1 and I really do use COM4 as I use a Keyspan serial port expander on the PC because we needed more serial ports...  That part has been tested and In fact, the other day, while in the middle of this problem we took the serial cable and hooked to what I above called the #1 instrument and talked to it just fine over COM4, same cable and everything so I think that part is good...
    thanks... bob...

  • Upload data in infotype 1520 using BADi(HRECM00_BDG0001).

    hi experts,
We have a requirement wherein the  BADi (HRECM00_BDG0001- which uses DETERMINE_BUDGET_VALUES method) needs to upload initial Budget Values into the Budget Structure, through an Excel Spreadsheet input (which will contain Organization Units and its respective Budget Values)
This will result in upload of initial budget values into the Budget Values Infotype 1520.
and based on this the Budget structure is created and ready for use.
Is there any functional module or any other method to upload the data (excel file) into the infotype 1520?

  • Cannot upload file to Oracle DB using blob datatype

    Hi
I am uploading a file to Oracle DB through JAVA. I am inserting the file as
a BLOB datatype. I am using JRUN 4 . But when I am uploading the file to the DB through my application it is not showing anything in the DB. The samp application is working fine on my QA environment on the same server . Is there some setting that needs to be done . Could this be a problem with the version of classes12.zip.
Also when i try to view the file it is giving me this error
    ORA-06550: line 1, column 13:
PLS-00201: identifier 'DBMS_LOB' must be declared
    ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:
    PL/SQL: Statement ignored
    Please help

Not sure afterall if you mean that you are having a pblm uploading (from what kind of file BTW?) or viewing after upload?
Try these tutorials - I found them very helpful. Also, do you have the 'PL/SQL Programming' book from Oracle Press? That has an entire chapter devoted to LOB types.

  • Hi, Cannot communicate with other instrument devices (Using AT-GPIB card)

Using AT-GPIB card to communicate with instruments that the running program is in C. After installed 488.2 software and test Hardware Diagnostic Test and Software Diagnostic Test. Everything is OK but after I run execute file the errors appeared. They displayed "GPIB cannot find Amplifier,or Unidex". My main task is transfer the AT-GPIB card from PC 386 to PC windows 98. Please help me to solve these problems. May I still use the old execute file to put in drive C in new PC Wins 98 and run that program. Thanks

    Hi,
It is hard to say what this could be. Everything tests OK so it is likely that your card is correct. Does MAX detect the instruments? I am not familiar with that error message. Is it the output of some custom program or the driver itself? It seems like it is not a driver level problem, but it is hard to say given the information.
By "May I still use the old execute file to put in drive C in new PC Wins 98 and run that program" do you mean keep an old application? If yes, then you should be able to use the old applicatoin with teh win98 driver. If you are refering to the driver itself, then no. You will need the windows 98 driver. This can be found at http://www.ni.com/support/gpib/versions.htm
    Hope this helps out.

  • I cannot upload iPhoto book to store using iphoto11 version 9.5

I have been unable to upoad iPhoto I have created to store for printing and purchase.  No problem on preview, or on assembly of the book but upload to store freezes.  I have tried the Help suggestions but got stuck when I could not find NetServices in the Keychain Access window.
I have iphoto 11 version 9.5 and am using OS X 10.9 on iMac
Any suggestions.  I have done 4 books previously without any problems.

    Try this:

  • My email address cannot be verifed to be used with face time or messges.  but works otherwise on the ipod touch

my email cannot be verified on my ipod touch to be used for messages or face time, although I can send and receive emails from the ipod.  I have deleted the eamil account and re-installed in and I have tuned the ipod off and back on

    Try here:
iOS: FaceTime is 'Unable to verify email because it is in use'

  • I cannot email a pages document to anyone.  Gmail reports error with server but works when i send a PDF

I cannot email a document via share option or by attaching it to an email.  Never use to be a problem before the update

Yes, others have reported it too. Tell Apple http://www.apple.com/feedback/pages.html
and while waitng for an update use Pages 09. It should still be in Applications/iWork09 folder it you haven't deleted it.

  • Magic mouse lagging or unresponsive when using bootcamp windows 7 on Mac Mini but works fine in Mac OSX 10.8.4

I updated the Apple Broadcam built-in bluetooth radio software through Windows and it found an update. Updated Boot Camp software/drivers to version 5.0.33, the latest which includes a wireless mouse piece.  Replaced the batteries again and turn it off/on several times. In the Bluetooth menu, this mouse usually does not show up in connected devices or will not show up as a device that can be added.  Once it did show up right after turning it off/on but took forever to connect then lost its connection right away and couldn't be discovered again.
I don't think drivers are the issue, seems to be some kind of conflict with wireless adapter & bluetooth maybe.
I found this which looked promising but no luck:  http://kemal.co/index.php/2012/09/laggy-magic-mouse-boot-camp-windows/
    Any ideas?
