Canon MFC4350 Network Printing, or Lack Therein

Hi folks. Long time reader, first time poster.
I have a Canon MFC 4350 attached to my PC. My wife has a Mac Mini G4 running OS X 10.5.8, that I'm trying to use to print to the Canon.
After having tried about 25 different times to get it to connect, print, or even acknowledge that I exist, I get one of three results:
1) Nothing. Zip. Zilch. Oogots. The printer appears to add in System Preferences, no problem, but when I go to print something, nothing happens. I usually get this result when trying to use a generic driver, either PostScript or PCL.
2) I get an Error -50. This usually happens when I try to add a printer the old-fashioned way, including specifying the model number.
I have downloaded the drivers from the Canon site, but I've never once had any luck with any manufacturer's drivers working that I downloaded from a site for a situation like this...
Any ideas? TIA.

Hi there and welcome to Apple Discussions.
The MF4350 uses Canon's UFR2 driver. The machine doesn't support the PCL or PostScript printer languages. The Mac version of the UFR2 driver does not work with a shared Windows connection using the SMB protocol. The Mac needs to be able to have a direct connection to the printer. So you will need to look at some other method of connecting both computers to the printer. Does your model have an Ethernet port or does it only have USB?

  • Canon MX870 network printer works sometimes

OK so I am in need of some help with printing over a wifi network.
I am using a Canon MX870 as a network printer with a Macbook Pro, and iMac that are connected to it via wifi. I also had it connected via ethernet and I still had the same issues. The printer does print but not consistently. It will randomly say that there is a communication error in the canon print status. I had the same issues with another HP officejet.
I am running the verizon wireless router and Mac OSX 10.6. Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks!

Given the current situation with the MX870 and the previous issue with the HP then I suggest you try changing the channel used by the Verizon router. Sometimes this can be done automatically by the router - simply restarting the device can be enough for it to obtain another channel. The other way would be to connect to the internal web page of the Verizon, by typing its IP address as the URL in Safari, and then manually changing the channel currently being used.
As to what channel to use, I suggest you get an application that can scan your immediate area to show what other wireless access points are close and could be conflicting with yours. There is a nice widget called Airlock that will show all wireless access points the Mac can 'see' and show what channels they are using. With this knowledge you can then select a channel that is not being used, or at least reply with what the utility finds and report this back.
The other thing you can check is the measured signal strength of the MX870. This can be found on the internal web page of the printer, which you access by typing its IP address into your browser. If you don't know the IP address you can use Safari to find the device, by opening the Bookmarks link in the toolbar and then selecting Bonjour in the left pane of Safari. The MX870 should be listed in the right pane. Selecting it will show the MX870 home page and here will be the quality and strength of the wireless signal. If these values are low then this will explain why you have been losing connection with the device.

  • Sharing Canon Wireless Network Printer on Snow Leopard Server

Trying to setup a wireless printer to share on the LAN via Mac Mini Snow Leopard Server, however the sharing option is not available.
    Configuration:
Mac Mini Snow Leopard Server (latest updates etc.) (static IP)
    TimeCapsule Wireless network (static IP)
Canon MP620 Wireless printer (static IP)
    Two MacBook's (DHCP)
Printer drivers (network drivers, and scanner drivers) from Canon installed on Mac Mini and printer is connected and setup via wireless network on Mac Mini; it is operational and can print from Mac Mini directly without problem
Sharing option on Mac Mini for the printer is missing in Print Settings (missing checkbox), so unable to share the printer on MacBook's via the Mac Mini, also under Sharing Settings the printer option is not there (assuming because share this printer option is not in the print settings)
Ideally, I want to setup the printer on the Mac Mini as a print server, without having to hardline (USB) the printer to the Mac Mini.
Thanks for any help, ideas etc.

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
On OS X Server, you need to use the Server Admin utility (Applications > Server ) to share the local print queue. This requires the Print service to be added/started and then a queue created for the local printer.
Seems unusual that you would want to share a wireless printer from the server. The MacBook 'clients' would still be able to connect directly to this printer without having to connect via the server share so without knowing all the details of your setup it just seems an odd requirement.

  • MacBook Pro won't print in color to Canon ImageRunner network printer

I have a MacBook Pro that I have installed drivers for and I am able to print to the Canon ImageRunner Color 5185i printer in our office. However, I cannot seem to get it to print in color. I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers from Canon but to no avail. Anybody have any ideas out there? This is a network printer with it's own static IP on the network. So frustrated...

I was having a similar problem with an HP printer. When I checked to see which driver my laptop was actually using (System Prefs>Print and Fax>Options and Supplies>Driver), it was using some sort of generic driver that worked fine for black and white, but wasn't getting color. I chose the HP driver out of the set listed and can now print in color. I know you said that you installed the latest drivers and you have probably already checked to see if those drivers are actually the ones being used by your computer, but if not, that might be a solution.
    Good luck.

  • Cannot print from Canon iRC2380i network printer, Help??

I am trying to connect to our office network printer.
When I search for the printer my Macbook Pro can find it and when I key in the IP address it connects successfully and chooses the Generic PostScript Printer as the driver.
However when I try and print it just prints a page with one line of random encrypted text and then many blank pages.
I'm not sure how to fix this.

  • Canon MF4370 network printing fails after 10.6 upgrade

Have been using a Canon MF4370dn printer for the past year with a desktop PC, notebook PC and two MacBook Pro. Printer was connected via Ethernet cable to our AT&T wireless router. MacBook Pro running 10.5.x was able to print via AirPort WiFi just fine. After upgrading to 10.6 and replacing the router with an Airport Express I discovered both MacBooks are no longer able to print via the network. I have tried several solutions posted on this board for various Canon UFRII printer problems, but nothing is working.
Here are some relevant setup and diagnostic details:
    * Mac OS X 10.6.5
    * Firewall is turned off
    * Canon UFR II v2.20 driver (followed prior version uninstall procedure from manual multiple times)
    * Added printer first via Bonjour, then via IP address and LPD
    * Able to access printer management interface via web browser
    * Able to print from desktop PC via Ethernet cable and from laptop PC via WiFi
    * Able to print from MacBook Pro connected via USB. UFRII print monitor gives error "Cannot monitor this printer with the current connection."
    * Unable to print from two MacBook Pros connected either via Ethernet cable or Airport WiFi. Print command returns 10322 error "Cannot communicate with the printer" and UFRII print monitor gives error "Printer not responding."
I would appreciate any additional ideas!
    Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
First of all I would like to complement you on the work you have done so far. Under most situations I would have expected you to resolve your issue with all that you have done.
The clue for getting this to work is the UFR2 Printmonitor. Once it can communicate with the MF then the driver will function.
From your information I believe that the UFR2 Printmonitor could be still looking for the previous setup when the MF was connected via the AT&T router. When you manually delete the UFR2 driver including "UFR2.BG.plist" this does not work correctly when the service is still running. You will see the 'UFR II Backgrounder' service via Activity Monitor.
So I suggest that you open the UFRII Printmonitor and then click on the Printer menu. You may see the MF4370dn with a USB icon next to it from the previous USB connection. And it should also show the MF4370dn with a network icon next to it. What you want to do is update this network 'link' to the current network connection and that can be done by pressing 'Search for Printer'. Nothing will be visible on the display when this completes so leave it a couple of seconds and then open the UFRII Printmonitor > Printer menu again. If you now select the MF4370dn entry shown with a network icon this should now show a connection to the printer rather than a not responding error. If this does work then you can exit Printmonitor and try printing.
If it still fails to print then delete the MF printer queue and manually remove the UFR2 driver files again, this time adding the extra step of Force Quitting the UFRII Backgrounder service via Activity Monitor. Then restart the Mac and run the v2.20 UFR2 installer again and then add the printer via LPD.
See how that goes and reply if needed.

  • Canon MF4370 network printing problem version 10.7.1

Here are some relevant setup and diagnostic details:
    * Mac OS X 10.7.1
    * Firewall is turned off
    * Canon UFR II v2.27 driver
    * Added printer via Bonjour
    * Able to print from desktop PC via Ethernet cable and from laptop PC via WiFi

    * Unable to print from MacBook Air connected via Time Capsule WiFi. Print command returns 10322 error "Cannot communicate with the printer" and UFRII print monitor gives error "Printer not responding."
    What can I do?
This is the first time I am using a Mac, please be detailed (like speaking to a 6 year old) if you do have suggestions.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Canon LBP5100 Network printing?

As discussed in other posts, I have also found it is not possible to print with the LBP5100 on a network using the usb port on time capsule. I'm thinking of buying the canon network card NB-C2 with an ethernet connection. Before I do, I'd be interested to know if anyone has managed to connect and print successfully this way, ie using an IP connection via time capsule?

Hello Raymond. I don't have this model but I have helped some forum postees and friends with other models of Canon printers that use proprietary protocols, like the CAPT used by this model, and I can vouch for the successful operation of these machine once they connect the Ethernet port instead of the USB to the Airport/TC. The problem with the USB connection is that the Canon software is unable to determine the model of the printer, due to limitations of the Airport USB port, so the driver queue cannot be added. But with IP connections, the process is different for adding the printer queue by giving the user the ability to select the printer model.

  • Need help installing Canon network printer on Mountain Lion

I am trying to install a Canon MF4270 network printer with my Macbook Air running Mountain Lion.
I added the printer using its IP, and selected the MF4200 driver from the list that came installed with the OS.  The printer worked, but it would not allow me to print double-sided (the option was greyed out). Some research showed that other people with similar problems simply updated the printer driver.
I checked the driver version and it said 2.0. I went to the Canon website and downloaded the newest version of the driver, which said 2.43.
I re-added the printer with the new driver. Same problem.
So I deleted the driver and the list of associated files, given to me by Canon tech support (I verified then that the MF4200 driver was no longer on the list), then installed the new driver (restarting my computer at every step).  I re-added the printer.
Now, it doesn't work at all. When I try to print, I get the following message: "Canon UFR II Printer Driver / Cannot communicate with the printer, or the printer is not supported. If the printer is supported, check the printer connection and add it again, then start Printer Utility to get the printer information."
I tried adding the printer using the Generic PostScript Printer driver, and when I print, it says that it is printing and I get no errors, but nothing prints.
Now, I can't print at all, and no one at Canon or Apple has been able to solve the problem.
    Please help.

First, delete the print queue in the Print & Scan preference pane, if you haven't already done so.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Caches/Canon/CUPSCAPT/CCPD/ccpd.conf
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window should open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Trash. You may be prompted for your login password.
    Recreate the print queue.

  • How to connect my mac book pro to network printer Canon IR 2010f?

I'm desperate to know how to connect my Mac book Pro to network printer Canon IR 2010f. This printer has an independent system, therefore, no need a PC to be on, in order to print. But this printer is a network printer. Help me please.

The Canon UFR2 v2.20 driver for Mac OS X does not list the iR2010F as a supported model. The same is so for the Canon PS driver so I therefore believe this model is PCL5e only.
What you should do is open Safari and type the IP address of the iR2010F. This will connect to the internal web page of the copier and from the provided pages you should be able to see what printer languages are supported.
If it only lists PCL then you will be able to print to this copier using the Generic PCL driver included with 10.6.
So if you open Print & Fax, click + to add and then select IP > LPD for the protocol you can then enter the IP address of the iR2010F and leave the queue name blank. For the name you can change that to iR1020F and for the Print Using, select Generic PCL Laser Printer.
One note with regards to this driver. It is defaulted to 300dpi so you will need to open the print dialog when you do print and change the resolution to 600dpi to get better print quality.

  • Cannot add a Canon Network printer to iMac (Intel) OS 10.8.3

I have never been able to connect this mac to the networked printer(Canon ImageRunner Advanced C5045).  The printer is detected as a printer nearby connecting through bonjour, but it won't print with the updated drivers, it wont print with generic drivers.  I've added it by IP address, by advanced settings with IP address, When I use the canon drivers, it gives me a driver error -50.  When I use the generic drivers it says its connecting and says it sent the prints, but nothing comes out of the printer.  I'm kind of at a loss.  Any suggestions?  Please?

been sitting here non stop for two days trying to make it work.
    Under Adding it by default:
Ive used the canon driver UFR II (both US and UK) 2.43 which is supposed to work with 10.8. This leads to an error "Cannot communicate with the printer, or the printer is not supported. If the printer is supported, check the printer connection and add it again, then start Printer Utility to get the printer information." Ive used the generic PostScript printer driver and the generic PCL printer driver.  These say they have printed - but nothing comes out of the printer.
    Under adding it by IP
Ive used IPP with canon drivers/generic drivers (canon drivers error -50 - generic drivers say they have printed but nothing comes out)   Ive used Jet Direct with canon/generic drivers (no results) Ive used LPD with canon/generic drivers (no results)
    Under adding it by windows
I've found what I believe to be the printer, but it asks me to log into the printer with a user name and password - I dont have either and didnt need any such thing to set it up on the windows machine right next to it.
    Under adding it by advanced
under canon CUPS BDL - got error -50
under canon CUPS Uni-direct IP - got error -50
under canon CUPS Uni-direct USB - got error 50 and Printer is not responding.Check the printer power and connection, and then try sending printing job again.
under canon UFR - got error 50
under IPP - got couldnt connect would you like to continue - yes - says printed - no results
under IPP (http) got error -50
under IPP (https) - got error 50
under IPP (ipps) got error 50
under Jet direct - got no results

under windows with spoolss - got log into printer with user name and password - followed by error -50

  • Canon IR 3235 -- snow leopard -- problems with network printer

    Hi,
since yesterday I've problems to print to the network printer [canon IR 3235-3245] -- updated to snow leopard ca. 14 days ago, then experienced printing problems, search this list for answers, then downloaded new canon drivers, re-configured the printer in system preferences, send the print command --- and got 100s of white sheets of paper instead of the 2 pages I wanted ...
what was wrong, or can anybody give me a clue to solve this?
    thanks, bommelkamp

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
With regards to the printing of 100's of white sheets, this could be a result of using the Canon PPDs but not having the PostScript license enabled in the iR3245.
The iR3245 series is supported by the Canon UFR2 v2.00 driver. This is the driver to download if you haven't done so already. With this driver installed, you create an IP printer using LPD as the protocol and a queue name of LP. Then in the Print Using select the "Canon iR3235/iR3245 UFR II (UK)".
Alternatively you can use Generic PCL Laser Printer for the printer model instead of the Canon UFR2 driver. This will get you printing but does not support any of the copiers finishing options.

  • After upgrade to latest firmware canon network printer won't print

after upgrade to latest firmware canon network printer won't print. It's a canon MP540 on a wireless network. It will print a test page but won't print from any application, just sits there with the message 'copying print data'!
Running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 (11C74), with firmware SMC Version (system):          1.73f63.
    Any help gratefully received.

First off if you can print a test page there is absolutely no reason you wouldn't be able to print from a application...none.  But stranger things have happened now that we have Lion.  Within the application are you selecting the wireless printer........just had to check.
I have the MP620 which is simlar to your MP540 and have no problems printing from my MBA (June 2011).  I too have the latest firmware and software......without problems printing.
A few things I'd try would be to remove the wireless printer from your computer (in Preferences, printers), restart, and repair permissions.  Then add the wireless printer back, and see if it works.  If not.....power OFF the printer and turn back on.
If the above fails reinstall the printer driver (yours) I think you will have to plug in the USB cable.
Keep me updated and I'll tyr and help!

  • Need to install Canon Network Printer drivers on server...?

I am about to add a Canon PIXMA iP5200R network printer to my intranet via its Ethernet connection. I have configured and tested printing sucessfully from my PowerBook G4 directly to the printer via my intranet after installing the necessary drivers and software from Canon.
Now I will like to use Mac OS X Server running on my Xserve G5 to manage the printer, and I do have some questions pertaining to this:
First question: since I don't think Canon supplies any PPD file for most of its printers, do I need to install the iP5200R drivers and Canon IJ Network Utility on the Xserve?
Second question: is there a Command Line Interface for Printer Setup Utility, or their relevant commands in CUPS, or do I need to use ARD to get the GUI of Printer Setup Utility on my Xserve?
Third question: after using the GUI or CLI of Printer Setup Utility to setup the printer on the server side, will this appear in WGM when I bring up the window to add a new Print Queue in Print service?
Fourth question: according to the Apple Print Service Documentation, if I share the Print Queue via IPP (I will only be turning this protocol on) and I have installed the Canon drivers and software on all the Mac (client) computers on the intranet, then I can use specific features of the Canon printer (such as direct CD/DVD Labeling), assuming if the Mac computers select this Print Queue via their Printer Setup Utility?
Fifth question: this Canon iP5200R printer has the ability to allow only certain computers to send print jobs to the printer via a table of either MAC ID or IP addresses, so if I enable this feature on the printer and limit to print jobs coming from the server only, I should be able to prevent user from bypassing the server to print, assuming I am also locking down the selection of printers in Print Setup using WGM?
    Thank you for reading.

I upgraded to Mac OS X Lion and now nothing works. I have read accros a few websites there might be a bug or some problem with CUPS or the drivers maybe?
