Canon MP560 no longer recognized by Image Capture/Preview

I have a Canon MP560 wireless printer/scanner and for some reason the scanner can no longer be seen by either Image Capture, Preview, or the Canon mp560 scanner toolbox under the Print menu. This happened either after installing 10.6.5 or after installing the latest Canon Printer Driver updates (I am not sure which caused it, as I did both updates recently...)
It can, however, be seen by MP Navigator 3.0.
Anyone found a fix for this yet?
thanks

Okay, have done some testing and found some interesting things.
With a new install of 10.6.5 (selecting not to add any printers) I was not able to locate any Canon AIO via wireless. The Default Add Printer pane was empty so it looks like the printer and scanner driver needs to be present on the Mac. For the printer this is understood, as the Canon protocol 'canonijnetwork' is not present in the BJPrinters folder located in Library > Printers > Canon (due to the customized installation the Canon folder was not even present). In checking the Image Capture folder (HD > Library) I also found that the Devices folder was missing. Inside of here you would normally find the Canon IJScanner package/s for a standard installation of 10.6. But with the customized install this package was not present and appears to influence the Mac's ability to 'see' the networked scanner component. To confirm this, I installed the Canon v2.4.1 driver update, which in turn created the Devices folder in Image Capture and consequently made the scanner component appear in the Default Add Printer view.
Another observation was that prior to installing the Canon v2.4.1 update, Image Capture would still display the MP on the network, but under the Shared menu - not the Devices menu. So even without the ICA driver installed nor the MP scanner driver installed, I was still able to use Image Capture to scan a document from the wireless MP. The same was true for Preview in as far as the Networked Scanner selection showed all the MP's present on the wireless network.
At this stage I believe that the Canon driver update you mentioned may have contributed to part, if not all, of your current symptom. The install.log does have a record of what this update installs. If you checked it there may be record of the installer not completing correctly. In any case I assume that for your Mac this update did not complete correctly and is causing the problem. So one suggestion would be to run the [Canon Driver v2.4.1 update|http://support.apple.com/kb/DL899] again (or for the first time if you simply used Software Update previously) to see if this repairs the CanonIJScanner packages.

  • Epson Photo RX600 no longer recognized by Image Capture but still prints

Recently my Epson Photo RX600 disappeared from Image Capture (in between doing an overview and final scan) and I can no longer seem to find/assign it. I am still able to print to the device through my Mac and to scan/copy using the buttons on the device, but no luck on scanning through the Mac. Any advice?
    Thanks.

My name is Syd and I work for Epson America, Inc.
If nothing has been changed on the computer itself, you may want to re-install the ICA scanner driver and restart. If this does not work and the RX600 is connected directly to your Mac USB port, we would recommend contacting tech support to more quickly determine the issue as there are variables involved. The direct number is 562-276-4382.
    Here to help,

  • Canon PIXMA 860 and 560 not recognized by Image Capture

I can scan from the printers to my MacBook. And I go to System Prefernces / Printers and Faxes and both are shown as printers and as scanners. I can open from their and scan but when I open image capture it doesn't find any scanners.
I down loaded and installed both the newest canon printer and scanner drivers as well as the newest ICA driver. Still they are not recognized.
    What am I missing?

Just for testing purposes, I removed the canon printer, removed all canon software and updates from my system and then used the original CD that came with my 870 to reinstall the printer and lo and behold, Image Capture started working again for wireless scanning.
Hello and thanks for the feedback.
There are two scanner drivers available for many of the new models of Canon AIOs. There is the ICA driver and the Canon scanner driver.
During my tests on clean builds of 10.6.x I found that my Canon AIOs were able to print and scan via wireless by simply installing the Canon update provided by Apple. This update consisted of the then latest printer driver for many models of Canon AIO and inkjet and the ICA driver. Canon's scanner driver was not included as part of this download from Apple.
The ICA driver is installed in HD > Library > Image Capture > Devices and the package is called Canon IJScanner1. Later versions of the ICA driver also installed another package, Canon IJScanner2. These ICA drivers provide a minimal amount of scanning selections and only appear to work with Image Capture and Preview. Other applications like Canon's own MP Navigator and Adobe Acrobat Pro will not scan with just the ICA driver installed. The Canon scanner driver for the respective model is required.
From what you have said and from my own testing I propose that the original CD did not contain the ICA driver but the Canon scanner driver for the MX870. And with only this driver installed you were able to scan using Image Capture via the wireless. I don't recall ever testing a 10.6 build where only the Canon scanner driver was installed and not the ICA driver (it is present by default on 10.6 but only has older models of Canon AIO's - your MX870 is not there). Had I tested this I believe that I would have been able to scan via wireless using Image Capture.
I also propose that once you installed the Canon v2.4.1 update, which contains a version of the ICA driver package that is also available from Canon web sites, then Image Capture stopped using the Canon MX870 scanner driver and used the ICA driver instead, thus stopping you from wireless scanning.
Right now I am using a new build of 10.6.6 on my MBPro. So that I could print to my MP990 at home and an MG6150 at work I simply installed the v2.4.1 update and have printer and scanner queues in Print & Fax for both. I have not installed scanner drivers for either device and at home with my MP990 Image Capture does not show any device being available, while Preview does show the MP990 once I select 'Import from Scanner > Include Networked Devices'. Also, Acrobat Pro 9 does not show my MP990 being available.
And with regards to the v2.4.1 update, the drivers included are provided by Canon to Apple, just as the other vendor drivers are provided to Apple, to make life easier for us Mac users. The drivers are available individually and get downloaded and installed automatically when the respective model is connected to the Mac and no local driver is present. As for the package including all these individual vendor drivers, this would be created by Apple.

  • Canon SX260HS no longer recognized by iPhoto

After upgrading to Mavericks my Canon SX260HS is no longer recognized by iPhoto. When plugged in to a USB port the system report shows the camera, but iPhoto does not mount the camera. The camera briefly displays "communication error" on its display.  The SD card can be read by using a standalone card reader attached to another USB port.  Looks like some change to the camera communications in Mavericks is at fault, but other than using a card reader I see no solution.  Help?

    tulsamini:
Wow. You've answered nearly all the questions I was going to ask. What version QT are you running?
Try logging into another account on your Mac and see if the camera can be recognized there. If it is then there's an issue with your primary account. Also try booting into Safe Mode and again check to see if the camera can be seen in your primary account.
Booting into Safe Mode runs the File System Check (fsck) during the boot and only loads the basic minimum extensions, etc. needed by the system. See What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? (Mac OS X). Again this will see if there's something that you've added that is causing the problem.
A workaround until you find a solution is to use a card reader. IMO, it's the best way to upload from a camera.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • IPhone 4 not recognized by Image Capture

help! so i'm trying to transfer photos i've taken with my iphone to my mac. when i open image capture, the iphone doesn't pop up as a recognizable device. tried to google the issue and to no avail... any help is appreciated! thanks

I had the same issue and when I searched for a solution, all I found was your question. So I messed around a bit and got it working.
I'm no computer engineer, so I did about 3 things at once rather than 1 at a time. Thus, I don't know if it was one step or a series of steps that got things working again so I'll tell you what I did and you can take it from there.
I had the iphone 4 connected with the cable. I had image capture running. It listed the proper number of images but I couldn't see the thumbnails and when I downloaded all, the newest ones didn't download.
In image capture, I went to the devices menu and clicked "browse devices" and unchecked iphone. Then I did a hard reset of the iphone by pressing the home and power button at the same time until the apple logo appeared. Image capture said no devices were connected. After the reboot (while still plugged into the USB), image capture showed my phone and all the thumbnails correctly.
I'm guessing it was just the reboot that did the trick.
    good luck.

  • Scanning transparencies with image capture/preview

We have just bought an epson v600 scanner. We have Lion so we need to use image capture or preview to scan with the it; this is not a problem for twhat we hope to use it for.
When we first used it, we scanned some small pics to see what they looked like like. Then we scanned some negatives using an drop-down option called something like Transparencies (negative). Worked out okay. Then we scanned some more pics, again with no problem.
However, now we want to scan some more transparencies. However, we no longer have the drop-down that lists transparencies. How do we get that back? What did I do to make it disappear?

I've got the same problem w/my Epson perfection3490. Hope someone can help us both.

  • Long Loadtime of Image (internet) Previews

Ok, so I had a WRT150N router on the third floor of my house and the Apple TV on the first floor of the house and everything was going fine. The thing I noticed was the instant loading of the previews of iTunes top movies, top music, trailers, etc. Now, I just bought an Airport Extreme Base Station with firmware 7.2.1 at the same place where my old router was. The thing I'm noticing now is it takes a lot longer to load top music, movies, tv shows, youtube previews, etc on my Apple TV. The signal strength that appears on the Apple TV is either 4 or 5 bars (fluxuates), this was also the case with the Linksys router. I tried power-cycling my cable modem and the Airport Extreme Base Station. Does anyone think that this might have something to do with either the Airport Extreme or Apple TV or the position of the two devices? Is anyone having longer load times of image previews of youtube, top music, top movies, etc?

After disabling the printer sharing service on the Airport Extreme Base Station and plugging my Powerbook directly up to the Airport Extreme Base station, I've noticed the sluggish load time of image previews of iTunes top movies, music, tv shows, etc or significantly faster if not at normal load times. Could the printer sharing feature or the shared HD feature slow down the performance of the network? (This may be more of an Airport BS question than an Apple TV one)

  • Canon MP560 prints wirelessly ok but scanner is not recognized

Something is going on with the latest Mac OS. Seems to be only with Intel Macs only.Image capture does not recognize either scanner I have.(Canoscan 8400F also).
I see others have broken connections other than Canon also.
Has Apple given an official release about this problem? Some have workarounds that are at programming level, but i'm not going anywhere near that fix. And Twain Sane isn't much of a fix as it doesn't give full capability of scanning like the original program used to run the scanner.I don't want to go through a whole number of steps to get it to work.I don't have Photoshop to make a workaround.
Here is what my friend had to do to get his new and old one to work:
"I am okay now, as I have the older CS3 Photoshop now sitting next to the CS4 version, and I've got the older one running in Rosetta compatibility mode and this lets me run the Canon scanner driver in full 16 bit colour mode. If I only wanted 8 bit colour files, I could just use the Canon utility but for working with restorations of old images, you want 16 bit greyscale (for old B&W pictures) or 16 bit colour mode."

In order to use Image Capture for scanning via USB from either Canon device you may need to update the Canon ICA drivers included with Snow Leopard. The Canon v1.5.1 update can be downloaded via the following link.
    http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0100213301.html
This will update the Canon IJScanner1 package located within the core Image Capture > Devices folder.
For the wireless connected MP560 I don't believe Image Capture can be used. But you can use Preview or even the MP560 Scanner queue in Print & Fax. You will need to install the Canon MP560 scanner driver listed below.
    http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0100204302.html
With regards to using Preview, to see the networked scanner you will have to click on File > Import from Scanner > Included Networked Devices. Then when you click on File > Import from Scanner again, the MP560 should be shown as an available device.
Has Apple given an official release about this problem?
I don't believe there is a known problem with OS X 10.6.4 Image Capture so therefore I would say there is no official release from Apple.
Some have workarounds that are at programming level, but i'm not going anywhere near that fix.
I would suggest that the workaround you have seen, especially at a programming level, would be meant for older models of scanners that have no official support from the vendor. But this is not needed for your scanners as Canon has provided drivers that function correctly on 10.6 for the majority of their scanners and AIO's.
And Twain Sane isn't much of a fix as it doesn't give full capability of scanning like the original program used to run the scanner.
There is no need to SANE. The following link is the Canon provided scanner driver for your CS8400F.
    http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0900334701.htm
I don't want to go through a whole number of steps to get it to work.I don't have Photoshop to make a workaround.
Like SANE, Photoshop is not needed. I am scanning over a wireless network at home with my new MP990 using the Canon MP990 scanner queue without a problem.
And my LiDE200 connected via USB to my Mac works fine also.

  • Image Capture won't capture (Canon 9950F)

I have recently bought a Canon 9950F for a specific project. It replaced an Epson Perfection 2450 Photo which worked perfectly but was limited in the size (area) of its film scanning capabilities. I have used a range of software including VueScan and Silverfast v6.6 but the most direct scanning tool I have used is Image Capture. The feature that I really like with Image Capture is the ability to select multiple scan areas in the 'preview' and have Image Capture scan them as a batch. The project I am working on (family archive photos, documents and film negs of various formats) really makes the most of this feature.
I have moved over to the Canon 9950F and immediately noticed that Image Capture does not see the film scanning feature of the 9950F. It scans documents exactly as the Epson 2450 did but does not offer the option of scanning film or transparency, only documents on the flatbed. I have updated the Canon Drivers and the scanner is visible under System Prefs > Printers. VueScan and SilverFast recognise the scanner (but neither have the selectable scanning feature that Image Capture offers) and Photoshop Elements 10 also sees the scanner under File > Import.
Has anyone experienced this problem and, if so, is there a 'work around'.
    Many thanks.
    iMac 24", Intel Core 2 Duo, 3Gb RAM, OS10.6.8,

Thanks PAHU that were a lot of drivers for sure in your link and I installed those. Unfortunately, nor the driver package nor the ICA driver did solve my problem. I'm beginning to think it might just be a bug within Image Capture, although Image Capture is stating the scanner is reporting an error. Strange thing is that Image Capture will work fine as long as I hide the details pane.
It seems to be an isolated problem too as I can't find any other subject on this on the net. I see more people having trouble to scan images with Image Capture but that's mostly related to not selecting the right part of the preview. I will see if I can reinstall Image Capture from the OSX dvd.

  • In Mountain Lion Image Capture only recognizes Canon SLR camera under root user

Being a school of fine arts we are using Canon 5D MKII cameras for use in Dragon Frame stopmotion.
In OS X 10.8.4 the camera shows up in System Information > USB but is not recognized in Image Capture (and Dragon Frame) when the user is logged in as a network- or standard user.
Using an local admin account the camera is sometimes recognized ('fuzzy logic') and is always recognized when logging in as a root user.
In Snow Leopard this problem does not exist but a rollback to Snow is not an option because Adobe CS 6 Premiere does not function well under 10.6.8.
The root user 'solution' suggests that it is permission related.
We found this problem on all our iMacs and we tried PRAM zapping and different cameras and cables.
Does anyone know a solution to this problem?

  • De-install Leopard Because Cameras/Scanners/Itouch No Longer Recognized

Leopard no longer recognizes my Canon SD600 or Epson 3170 in Image Capture. The whole OS has a MS instability feel. Itouch is no longer recognized. What's up??
Anyway Is there an easy way I can back out of the Leopard upgrade without blowing away all of my date files?

    Hi Chris Metz;
If you restore the backup you took before the upgrade to Leopard, that is the easiest way to get back to Tiger.
I have to say that none of my systems or those that I help to support are suffering from any problems with Leopard.

  • Image Capture not working with 10.6.6

I use a Canon MP780 printer/scanner with my Macs. I have no printing problems. However, when I upgraded to Snow Leopard the Canon MP Navigator scanning software stopped working and Canon's downloaded driver update didn't resolve the problem. Despite conversations with a helpful Canon engineer they seemed unable to offer a solution. However, I started using Image Capture as a satisfactory solution and this has worked fine until I upgraded to 10.6.6. Now this has stopped working too - I just get the message 'No camera or scanner selected'. I tried installing the recent Apple Canon download (Dec 14th 2010) but it hasn't resolved the problem. I see that the MP780 scan function does not seem to be supported by Apple on a list they publish on the site, however.
I can still scan by using the printer dialogue box but it is very long-winded and not very satisfactory. Is there any hope of me being able to use Image Capture again with my scanner?

The MP Navigator application requires the [Canon MP780 scanner driver|http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0900205301.html] to be installed. The Canon driver update from Apple does not include this full scanner driver, only a mini driver that lets you use the scanner via Image Capture/Preview.
However, I started using Image Capture as a satisfactory solution and this has worked fine until I upgraded to 10.6.6. The mini driver mentioned above is known as an ICA driver. Canon provides this package to Apple for software download and also has it for various models on their web site. Checking the Canon Australia web site, the MP780 does not list the ICA driver. And checking the Canon IJSCanner1 package located in Library > Image Capture > Devices, which is where this information gets copied to, the MP780 is not in the devices list. So this confirms what Apple has listed on the web but makes no sense how you were able to scan on 10.6.5 or how you are still scanning now via the Print & Fax section, which uses the ICA driver. I would not think that the .6 update would remove the MP780 from the device plist. I need to check a previous build when I get back to the office.
But in the meantime if you can still use the MP780 in Print & Fax then this is the same as what you get in Image Capture. If you click the Show Details tab in the scanner preview window then this may be what you were used to with Image Capture.
And I believe that if you install the full scanner driver then you will be able to use [MP Navigator v2.0.8|http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0900182001.html].

  • Image Capture does does not recognize iPhone 3GS

    Greetings,
Something is amiss with one of my profiles on my PowerMac G5 and the Image Capture.app no longer recognizes my iPhone 3GS when I plug it in. The phone is recognized in other profiles so it’s not a phone of computer problem. Without the device recognition I can’t easily move images to iPhoto or Lightroom.
    Thanks,
    Steve

I wish it was as simple as rebooting. I was on the phone with Apple Support for more than 3 hrs today and we were not able to resolve the problem (yet).
Approx 2 weeks ago iPhoto, Aperture and Image Capture all stopped recognizing my iPhone. Oddly, iTunes has no problem recognizing the iPhone. Here are just a few of the things we tried but didn't get the apps to see the iPhone again:
    - Removed and deleted all photos on camera roll using a windows machine
    - Removed all other photos synced between my iMac and iPhone
    - Made sure an image existed on the camera roll
    - Recorded some video on iPhone and then tried to get iMovie to recognize device
    - Restored (gulp) the device followed by a restore from back-up
    - Restored again (double gulp) but this time to factory settings and kept the device as a "new iPhone"
    - Logged on as different users
    and on and on.
Also, after noting that my machine refused to send a systems report to my Sr Advisor at Apple, he suggests we re-install Lion (ack).  But when we went to access the Recovery Partition we realized it wasn't there.
So now I wait for Lion to arrive on one of those nifty Apple thumb drives for me to try re-installing ;-(
The following screen grab show my iPhone in iTunes but not recognized by Image Capture. URGH!

  • Image capture not working in lion

Well! After 10 years or so of OS X my Kodak DC 5000 no longer works in image capture after upgrading to OS X Lion. After connecting the camera and trying to import images, Image Capture says "no device connected".
Went to the loca shop and using the same camera and cable, successfully imported picts to the desktop under Snow lepard, so I know it's not the camera or cable. Been a mac user for decades! never had a problem with "plug and play" until this update!
Do I need to get a card reader now? New camera? Not happening as long as this one works(ed). Already lost Photoshop, but didn't mind as I bought Pixelmator. However, the Image Capture not working is a showstopper. Is this Apple's version of Vista? Help please!

Yes, I have iPhoto 9.1.5, I also used the prefs and this still is not working. The upgrade to OS X Lion broke my driver and I am not able to do transfer any pics from the camera.
I assume I will now need to buy a card reader.
