Cant install new i tunes, cant uninstall old i tunes

after upgrading to itunes 9.1 in the usual manner it froze and slowed computer down.
Decided to uninstall and re-install afresh but wont let me uninstall old itunes and i get an message saying 'the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable?'
so no itunes as if i try to install it i get messages saying it can't remove old components(bonjour etc) and then says it cant install quicktime.finish!

I have tried installing quicktime on it's own but it tells me that at cannot remove the old version of quicktime and to contact technical support. It does this when i try to install itunes and seems to be unable to uninstall older versions.
I have tried removing the itunes files in program files.
If you try to uninstall it tells me it cant find itunes msi and to try to find the installation package itunes msi in a folder in which you can install the product i tunes.

    Spotlight search "Flash Player.plugin"

Make sure you have fully exited Firefox last by using the Quit option. In Mac OS X, applications do not automatically exit when you close the last remaining window as they do in other operating systems.
If you are quite sure that you quit, it's possible that Firefox may have hung in the course of shutting itself down. In that case, you can read these instructions for 'force quitting' an applicaton:
    http://www.techiecorner.com/769/how-to-force-quit-program-in-mac-os-x/
Only do that as a last resort though.
Finally, uninstall your existing version of Firefox before attempting to install a new version. You can do that by opening the Applications folder from the Finder, then dragging the Firefox icon to the trash can.

    Hello Re Mix DJ ,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help with iTunes installation. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice for the issue you are experiencing:
Remove and Reinstall iTunes and other software components from Windows XP
In some rare instances, you might need to remove iTunes and related software components before reinstalling iTunes. If you're directed to reinstall iTunes by AppleCare, an article, or an alert dialog, you can do so by following the steps below. These steps might take a while to complete, depending on your system.
If you're running Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8 see Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8.
Media you've bought from the iTunes Store or songs you've imported from CDs are saved in your My Music folder by default. They won't be deleted by removing iTunes. Although it's highly unlikely that you'll lose any of your iTunes Library when following the steps below, first make sure that your iTunes library is backed up. See iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive for more information.
If you have issues installing iTunes, try the options outlined in Issues installing iTunes for Windows.
If you've received errors regarding inaccessible registry keys during installation, try the steps found in "Could not open key" message when installing iTunes, QuickTime or Apple components for Windows.
    Steps
Remove iTunes and its related components from the Control Panel.Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order. Then restart your computer:
Don't uninstall these components in a different order, or only uninstall some of them. Doing so might have unintended affects.
    To remove these components:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Quit the following programs if they're running:
    iTunes

    Apple Software Update
    Choose Start > Control Panel.
In Control Panel, open "Add or Remove Programs."
Select iTunes from the list of currently installed programs. Click Remove.
When asked if you would like to remove iTunes, select Yes.
After the uninstallation is complete, don't restart your computer if you're prompted.
If you see other iTunes entries in the list, remove them by repeating steps 4–6.
Using steps 4–6, also remove all instances of:
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
    Restart your computer.
Make sure that iTunes and its related components are completely uninstalled. In most cases, removing iTunes and its related components from the Control Panel will remove all supporting files belonging to those programs. In some rare cases, files might be left behind. After following the steps above, confirm that the following files and folders have been removed. If any are left behind, remove them.
    To remove these files:
    C:\Program Files\Bonjour\
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\CoreFP
    C:\Program Files\iTunes\
    C:\Program Files\iPod\
Follow these additional steps if you receive a "Cannot delete iPodService.exe: It is being used by another person or program." message.
    Choose Start > My Computer.
Open Local Disk (C:) in Computer, or whichever hard disk your programs are installed on.
    Open the Program Files folder.
Right-click the Bonjour folder (if it exists). Select Delete from the shortcut menu. Choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
Right-click the iPod folder (if it exists). Select Delete from the shortcut menu. Choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
Follow these additional steps if you receive a "Cannot delete iPodService.exe: It is being used by another person or program" message.
Right-click the iTunes folder (if it exists). Select Delete from the shortcut menu. Choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
    Open the Common Files folder.
    Open the Apple folder.
Right-click the Mobile Device Support folder (if it exists). Select Delete from the shortcut menu. Choose Yes when asked to confirm.
Right-click the Apple Application Support folder (if it exists). Select Delete from the shortcut menu. Choose Yes when asked to confirm.
Right-click the Apple CoreFP folder (if it exists). Select Delete from the shortcut menu. Choose Yes when asked to confirm.
From the Start menu, select My Computer.
Open Local Disk (C:) located in Computer, or whichever hard disk your operating system is installed on.
    Open the Windows folder.
    Open the System32 folder.
Right-click the Recycle Bin and select Empty Recycle Bin.
Reinstall iTunes and its related components. After you make sure that iTunes is completely uninstalled, restart your computer and install the latest version of iTunes.
If the issue persists, look for more information on the iTunes Support page, including help with specific messages.
    iPodService.exe Alert
Follow these steps if the message "Cannot delete iPodService.exe: It is being used by another person or program" appears when you try to delete the iPod folder.
Make sure that iTunes and the iPod Updater utility aren't open.
    Press and hold Control-Alt-Delete.
    Select Start Task Manager.
    Click the Processes tab.
    Locate iPodService.exe in the list.
Click iPodService.exe and choose End Process.
    Quit the Task Manager.

  • Cant install new software updates

    Hi,
It seems I cant install any software updates from apple. When I click the install button, nothing happens.Normally the Admin password screen comes up but its not.
    Anyone have any advice?

Cutting to the chase, I think the best solution to this problem is to make a really good backup with TimeMachine and then do a clean install os Leopard, and then to update Leopard, and then to use TimeMachine to restore your files.
I tried Archive and Install. At first, I attempted to preserve user preferences. But the installation of Leopard hung. Looking at the logs, it hung after the system had installed, and as it was in the process of trying to restore the user settings. I then tried Archive and Install without preserving user preferences. This appeared to work, but several files were corrupted. Most obviously, files that had recently been edited with Microsoft EXCEL 2008. I then deleted the Archived files and restored all my user files from TimeMachine. Problem solved.
I wonder if the combination of Microsoft Office 2008 and Leopard 10.5 is somehow toxic.

  • Install new Ipod without loosing my old tunes

I got a new ipod to replace my old one that got stolen out of my car. My question is this: Can I instal my new ipod while keeping my existing songs/videos on my itunes. I was under the impression that I had to reinstall Itunes. I do not want to throw away the 2000 songs I have.

You don't need to reinstall iTunes to use another iPod with it. Just connect your iPod and follow the on screen instructions, it will find your existing iTunes and update.

  • Cant install new OS! and nothing works!

i have a problem, my friend has come with his Powerbook G3 and has asked me to fix it, he had OS 9 installed but he had deleted a whole load of files, so most of his applications wouldnt start, missing plug ins etc, therefore he couldnt use any applications he needed (adobe illustrator etc) nor open the documents.
I thought i would simply re-install the operating system and then all the programs to make sure everything was correct, and decided to upgrade him to OSX at the same time, i insterted the install CD but it wouldnt start or show up on the desktop atall, I know the drive works because music and other cd's show up fine, and i know the cd isnt damaged as i have several backup copies. so i went to startup utility or whatever its called in os 9 and noticed there was os x already installed, so i re-started with this...
it was an early version of os x and there was loads of question marks in the dock rather than programs, nothing seems to work in it not even system preferences, and i have no idea how to restart with os9 again, i thought i would install the newer version of osx over the top by restarting holding the "C" key down with the installation cd in the drive but it doesnt work.
what can i do? basically it will only startup now in a completely usless osx with no working features, and i cant get any OS installation CD's to work.
    Please Help!

Ali, thanks for pointing out the specs in the other thread. I checked all three threads originally, but hadn't been keeping up with the other two since then. I have exactly the same model PB G3 (the predecessor to my Tibook) and am very familiar with it.
Chris, a 4GB hard drive is too small for installing Panther on it to make any sense whatsoever. With only 64MB of RAM, you couldn't do so even if you insisted on trying to do it with XPostFacto.
OS 8.1 from the PB's original, model-specific installer disc, OS 8.5 from a retail installer disc, or OS 9.x from a retail installer disc are the three reasonable installation options you have. If you don't have access to any of those three discs, you just aren't going to be able to help your friend.
EDIT: Hold down the Option key at startup and see whether the Startup Manager will appear and allow you to switch the startup System to OS 9. If it does, and OS 9 boots successfully, then open the Startup Disk control panel immediately and select OS 9 as the startup System, to make the setting stick. But I don't know whether the Startup Manager was included in the old OS X version that's installed now, or if so, whether it too has been crippled by indiscriminate file deletions or system crashes since the tinkering began. Nor do I know whether your friend has so crippled his OS 9-based applications that they won't run even in OS 9. As Ali says, with the hard drive in its present condition, I wouldn't bet much on the chances that the PB will operate reliably in any OS until you've wiped the drive and reinstalled everything on it.
EDIT AGAIN: No, the Startup Manager isn't going to be the answer. It doesn't work on a PB G3, apparently.

Open it by going to Start > All Programs > Windows Instalelr Clean Up

  • Cant install new iTunes, Cant install new iTunes

While I had my Ipod today, attempting to sync it, it wouldn't do anything, but it was recognized by the computer.  The Apple Mobile Device component randomly dissappered.  So I thought that reinstalling iTunes would help.  However, when I installed iTunes, it won't instal the Apple Mobile Device again, saying that I, "need to make sure that I have the proper authority permissions."
HELP!  I have tried everything that I can think of (disabling spyware and firewall, eliminating all related folders, etc.)

    Thank you TT2!
I followed your troublshooting tips as of 30 Jan.
Everything went well, except of course that Apple Mobile Device Support would never uninstall.
It seems that even Revo Uninstaller and CCleaner could not remove it.
Since I was curious, I did a search on my hard drive for "Apple Mobile Device Support", and found a lot of old versions (see below)
Your guide mentioned deleting files from C:\Program Files\
but you did not mention anything about C:\ProgramData\
Each of those directories seems to contain a file called AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi
So, I thought I would check and get your opinion before any manual deletion of these directories.
    Thank you!

Ok, trying to get kde mod setup for the first time without any other x-windows installed yet. each time it tires to update using packman, it says connection timeout .

Is anyone else able to get to this site right now? Would this be the only reason why its not working, and is there an alternate server location i can use instead?
I wanted to try out kdemod4 but i might need to try openbox if i cant get kdemod to work....
