Cant launch JVM with high max memory allocation

We have a couple of Windows machines - a Win7 and Win Server 2012 - both being 64-bit machines. The Win7 machine has 190GB of RAM and the Win Server has 500GB RAM. We are running a memory hungry application so we tried to allocate as much RAM as possible. We have however discovered that we CANNOT allocate more than 160GB RAM on both machines to Java - we get a "Java Platform Binary SE has stopped working" message (we are running Java 1.7.0_13). I have read in various places that the OS "has a say" in the amount of RAM that can be allocated/passed on to Java but havent found any conclusive description/explanation. I'm hoping to get as accurate a picture as possible as to why we getting this apparent restriction - especially with the Win Server machine which has 500GB RAM. Details on why Windows is doing this - if it is - will be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks.

Probably (hopefully) some environment limit.
Briefly googling doesn't suggest anything.
If it was me....
-  I would write a C++\C# app to test maximum app limit.  If that is limited by the same amount then it proves it in an environment and not java limit.
- Look into paid support requests to Oracle and\or Microsoft to ask them why the limit might exist.

    Hello,
Virtual Memory of tomcat(version is 6.0.35) is very high and jvm crash even though we decrease java heap size from 1024M to 500M.

Our business is communicating between java and COM component. In order to implement it, we used JavaCom to generate java class for COM component.
Memory of COM component is little, but Native Memory is high.
Who used JavaCom and did you meet this problem?
Please give me some suggestions. Thanks a lot.

  • Max memory allocation in Windows 2000

    Hi,
I want to allocate more than 1.6GB of memory to JVM. So, I use:
    "%JAVA_HOME%\bin\java" -server -ms1024m -mx1680m
I get following error while starting weblogic server: "Error occurred during initialization
    of VM
Could not reserve enough space for object heap"
    Spec:
Windows 2000 Server (dual processor + 4GB RAM)
    Weblogic 6.1 sp1
    JVM: 1.3.1 (bundled with Weblogic)
I am aware that Windows NT 4.0/JVM had limitation that more than 1.6GB cannot
be allocated. But for Windows 2000, microsoft had removed that limitation by redoing
its memory address management whereby for Windows 2000 Server apps can get more
    than 1.6GB.
I want to allocate more than 1.6GB (preferably upto 3GB) for my Weblogic process
    but I get this exception.
You help/input will be really appreciated.
    Thanks.

Assuming that your application isn't continuously reading into memory ever-increasing amounts of data, the thing to look for are references that you aren't closing when you are finished with them.

  • Data Deduplication - max memory allocation

    Hi
i encountered this issue on a server:
    2012R2
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2891882/
i have configured the value from the KB, but i still get:
Data Deduplication detected job type "Optimization" on volume "\\?\Volume{8ce5ac3c-46df-4a37-8a9e-c4b28f1354d1}\" uses too much memory. 3179 MB is assigned. 3870 MB is used.
Data Deduplication cancelled job type "Optimization" on volume "\\?\Volume{8ce5ac3c-46df-4a37-8a9e-c4b28f1354d1}\". It uses too much memory than the amount assigned to it.
for the volume with most data.
    can the value be increased?

    Hi,
Please try to attempt a workaround by adding the following registry key with value 1000 to resolve the issue.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ddpsvc\Settings\WlmMemoryOverPercentThreshold
    Best Regards,

  • Memory Allocation problem when using JNI

For a Project we need to interface Labwindows-CVI/ Teststand with an application written in Java. we are using JNI. The code uses JNI_CreateJavaVM to start a JVM to run the Java interface code. The code did run for some time , but now ( without any obvious change nor on the CVI side neither on the Java side) JNI_CreateJavaVM fails with -4 error code, that means that the start of the JVM failed due to memory allocation failure. First investigation showed, that even if Windows Task Manager shows about 600M free physical memory, you can allocate in CVI only about 250M as a single block at the time we are calling  JNI_CreateJavaVM. That might be a little bit to less as we need to pass -Xmx192m to the JVM to run our code. Unfortunately just increasing the physical memory of that machine from 1.5G to 2G doesn't change anything. The free memory showed by Task Manager increases, but the allocatable memory block size does not. Are the any trick to optimize CVI/Teststand for that use case ?  Or maybe known problems with JNI ?
    Solved!

    hi,
have you tried other functions to allocate memory?
the -Xmx command only sets the maximum heap size. You can try to use -Xms. This command sets the initial Java heap size.

  • What is the default memory allocation for JVM

    Hi,
Can anybody please let me know the default heap memory allocation(both min & max) for JVM, if we don't provide memory arguments (-Xms -Xmx) on 32-bit linux & windows machines having 4GB RAM?
    Thanks,
    Suresh

Starting with 5.0, per the Sun VM docs.
    http://download.oracle.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/tools/windows/java.html

  • JVM memory allocation

Hello, I am writing a program that requires me to read large files into memory. Since the JVM has a heap limitation, I am setting the max memory with the -Xmx"number"m command line command. I then create an exe wuing JBuilder. For some reason, I can't make an exe that is calls for more than 1475m. Does anyone know of a way to remove the JVM memory limitation all together? BTW, I can set any memory parameter I want to and run it in jbuilder so long as it is in my machine's limitations. It is only when i create an EXE that it gets theis limitation.

It is only when i create an EXE that it gets theis limitation. Then I guess you shouldn't create an EXE.
You might consider redesigning your application to use less memory.

  • Memory Allocation to JVM

    Hi
How do I allocate Contiguous memory space to JVM 1.3 in Windows and AIX?
    Regards
    Sudhindra

    Hi
You are right. But the issues here is performance
enhancement. I feel that when we are talking about
huge volumes of data and transaction performance will
be enhanced if the memory allocated is contigous.
As far as I know all modern platforms use virtual addressing. The overhead of that applies regardless of layout of physical memory. So I am not sure how contiguous blocks would help.
So can you please tell me how to do this? Where can i
    get more information about this?
Like I said maybe it is specific to your platform. If so you need to look to the docs about your platform. And the only way you are going to get any advantage from java objects from that is if you write your own jvm.

  • How to set JVM max memory setting in JBoss?

We have an old deployment of LiveCycle 7.2 running on Windows 2003 / JBoss.  The max memory is reported as 508mb on the JBoss Management Console.   Anyone have any idea how to change this value.   I tried modifying the jvm.cfg file as well as run.conf in JBoss and modify JAVA_OPTS but it didn't seem to make a difference.

Seems its in the Windows registry at
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\JBoss for Adobe LiveCycle\Parameters

  • Encore - Memory Allocation Error - With Dynamic Link

    CS4 using Vista
The process (AdobeEncore.exe *32) gets stuck at 959,736K while 6GB is available.
In the past I have built many DVDs using a Dynamic Link from Encore to Premiere Pro.
Now they all end in errors: Memory Allocation Error & Unable to Create Image Buffer.
I monitored the process in the Windows Task Manager.
The memory use for the (AdobeEncore.exe *32) process grows until it reaches  959,736K.
The memory use stops there but the process continues for a while and then Encore stops with the errors.
I guess is that (AdobeEncore.exe *32) has become limited to 1GB but the is plenty of memory available.
I can Import a file and make a DVD without using the Dynamic Link.
    Thanks

    Was probably a hardware issue.

  • Memory allocation error with disk image

I'm having recurring problems with a large encrypted sparseimage that I mount at /Users (an arrangement I prefer to FileVault.) The file contains one journaled HFS+ partition. Every so often, open files on the volume vanish or become unwritable. At the same time, I get a long series of messages in the system log of the form
    kernel[0]: disk4s2: memory allocation error.
There's plenty of memory available. When this happens, I have to log out all staff users, then unmount and remount the image. When I do so, fsck finds corrupted i-nodes, which it's able to repair. All is then well for a few days, except that the files that were affected when the problem occurred are gone and have to be replaced. I've tried the obvious things many times: creating a new image file from backups, deleting kernel caches, etc.
This looks like a bug in the HDI driver. I'd be thankful for genuine insight from anyone who actually knows something. Responses such as "Repair permissions" or "Reinstall Mac OS X" aren't needed. Thanks.
    Dual G5 2.5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Was probably a hardware issue.

  • Lightroom does not launch with insertion of memory card.

Lightroom does not launch on my PC with insertion of memory card. Option checked to launch in preferences. Autoplay settings set for Lightroom 6 (I assume this is CC) to import photos with insertion of memory card. New since installation of CC.

I had this problem and I was able to fix it by editing the Windows registry (it was only a minor edit).
I changed the value of the following registry key:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Adobe.AdobeLightroom64\shell\open\command
    The value was:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7\Lightroom.exe "%L"
    I changed it to:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Lightroom\lightroom.exe "%L"

  • MATROX POWERDESK HF - memory allocation conflict with PP3

    Hi,
I have a MATROX APVe in my computer.
I've found out that my MATROX POWERDESK HF driver is having memory allocation conflict with PP3; ADOBE suggest just to turn it off, but does anyone have a better suggestion?
Anyone not experiencing this problem with MATROX's POWERDESK ?
Does it do the same thing with MATROX POWERDESK SE ?
    Thank you.
    Frédéric

I have the Matrox Parhelia APVe and PowerDesk-HF but I never pay much attention to it. I set up my multiple displays and that's about it. It never gave me any trouble with any CS3 products. It just works and therefore it gets ignored I suppose.
    What are your symptoms?

  • Cant Launch Firefox from Mac with UTF8 International Domain name

From a Mac running OSX 10.7, I Launch Firefox with a UTF-8 string containing an international domain name:
I try to launch http://www.vihtilä.fi and Firefox responds: Can’t connect to http://www.vihtil\xc3\xa4.fi but the address bar string is correct. If I copy the address bar string, and paste it back into the address bar, then hit enter, the site opens. Safari and Chrome launch the correct site.
    \xc3\xc4 is the UTF8 representation of 'ä'
Firefox on Windows works correctly, but I pass it a WCHAR (UTF16) name.

    That is weird.<br />
The forum makes a correct and working link (www.vihtilä.fi) via preview, but changes the URL to the escaped encodeURI version when it is posted.
I can't replicate what you are doing, but the page opens via a desktop shortcut with "<b>-url http://www.vihtilä<i></i>.fi</b>" command line parameter.
