Cant ping windows computers with new E4200 LAN/wLAN
just replaced a WRT54G with E4200. Most functions work well. 4 wireless computers (1 Macbook, 3 Win 7), 1 wireless android, 1 wired Win7 computer, 1 ethernet connected hard drive, 1 ethernet connected printer. All computers can ping router, access hard drive, access internet, ping android and ping Macbook.
However, router, nor any computer, can't ping Win7 computers. Apparently IP based connections between WinX computers is blocked. My real applications are to Remote Desktop Connect from 1 Win7 computer to another, or to run a DLNA music server on 1 Win7 computer, accessed by another. (the LAN connected computer is the server, accessed by a wLAN client. All worked fine on WRT54G router, but can't connect thru E4200. When these apps failed, I tried PING, and that failed as well.
All computer's IP addresses are properly served from E4200 via DHCP, and are visible thru the router's DHCP Reservation panel.
Cisco Tech support suggested turning off the router firewall, and then turning off all of the internet filters, but neither of these ideas helped.
Any thoughts
Did you reconfigure the firewall on the Windows computer? You have connected the computers to a new router, i.e. a new network and it should be by default untrusted.

Extremely slow speeds on Windows Computers with 5th Generation AirPort Extreme
I just got a new refurbished AirPort Extreme 5th generation. Everything works great for all of my OS X devices and iOS Devices. I am getting my ISPs speeds when doing tests. The issue is when I am using Windows devices. My roommate has a desktop and a netbook and both are getting extremely slow speeds. Speeds like .07Mbps down. Does anyone have any idea what the issue might be?
You have no large file?? Really.. in the whole computer there is not a windows update file.. a backup file... a movie download file.. nothing.. ??
Anyway that is irrelevant.. the issue is wireless.
Download the latest drivers from the wireless manufacturer.
You will need to find out what wireless card is used and locate the correct download for that model.
On the Airport it is well worth doing the following tests.
1. Change the name to SMB standard.. short no spaces pure alphanumeric.
So if your wireless name is Fred Blog's Airport Extreme wireless
Plesae change it to AEwifi
2. Take off all security for a test.
3. Set channels.. I am guessing the computers are only using 2.4ghz, so set 11,6, 1 in that order.
No improvement.. just put the security back to WPA2 Personal with pure alphanumeric password..
Try and test new drivers and use no firewalls on the computer.. ensure that the computer is correctly set for home network.
Beyond that it is just incompatible. -
Cannot find shared windows printer with NEW macbook running leopard HELP!
I just bought a new Macbook this past week. Woo Hoo. I love everything about it with the exception of file sharing and printer sharing. I have a less than one year old pc running vista that is connected to a hp 1300 series all in one printer. I can not even find this printer anywhere on the mac. i have been able to connect to my pc server via the ip address and share files this way. I am at a loss and really have no knowledge of mac. it is really disheartening, as I had way less trouble setting up windows networks for my roommates in college.
Also, as a side helper, how can I setup a shared folder that can be accessed from both the mac and the pc. I would like something that I can set on the desktop of both in order to share files better and more efficiently than connecting to a server everytime I want to do this. Please help, and explain as if I am as stupid as I appear.

Old VXI-PCI8012 (Win 95) work with Windows XP with new driver?
I have a VXI sytem with VXI-PCI8012 hardware and running Win 95 and Labwindowd/CVI 5.0. I am planning to my upgrade computer to Win XP Professional with the new computer running Labwindows/CVI 7.0. Are there any hardware difference between the NI VXI-PCI8012 and the VXI-PCI8015 (777119-02) ?, so that with a new sw driver NI-VXI 3.3.1 for XP wondering I could still use same hardware. Are there any other concerns about doing this?
The difference between the two kits, VXI-PCI8012 and VXI-PCI8015, is the version of the software driver which is included. So it is fine to use the hardware from your VXI-PCI8012 kit with Windows XP if you upgrade to the latest version of the NI-VXI driver (currently version 3.3.1) which supports Windows XP.
As a tip, remember to uninstall any previous NI-VXI driver using Add or Remove Programs before downloading and installing the latest version from our web site.

No Windows DVDs with new computer.
There were no Windows 7 disc given with my new computer. Now I am getting the blue screen error every time I boot up. How should I go about getting a Windows 7 disc to reinstall windows from?
Yes the machines that are sold without recovery media have the ability to make them. This is also a service that Geek Squad offers as part of a setup of a new computer that clients can also elect to have us perform for them if they wish. The problem for the OP is they didn't make the discs and now the machine is BSODing. This means that the machine is likely not stable enough to burn a set of recovery discs from as that would take several hours on most machines.
With the machine unable to boot the only option the OP has is to order them from the manufacturer. -

Time machine cant see old backups with New Macbook
Hello, I recently migrated from an iMac to a MacBookPro6. I plugged in my externals hard drive into my Macbook and was accessing old backups from my iMac without a problem. THEN I used the hard drive to backup with time machine and now I cannot access any of my iMac files. I no longer have permissions. I no longer have the iMac. Is there any way to access these old files or retrieve permissions with my new Macbook?

Windows CD with new laptop?
I purchased a new Satellite L305-S5921 Toshiba Laptop from Office Depot. I noticed there was no Windows Operating System CD in the package. I am wondering if there is supposed to be a Windows CD or is there another way to install the Operating System later if need be?

Toshiba expects you to make your own recovery disks. The procedure is described on page 61 of your user guide.
Note that the recovery disk is not the same as a Windows CD. -
Cant sign into iCloud with new update
As of the new update i can't sign into iCloud. I've tried deleting the iCloud account file in library
and my gestures are broken in SafariYou will need to go to a computer and go to System Preferences and sign on your new iCloud account there to activate it. You can then sign it out (so whomever was signed on there before can sign back on), and then you will be able to sign it on to your device.

Keeping Contacts & Apps when syncing iPhone with new computer
I just got a new netbook with Windows 7 Starter. I would like to transition from using my current work laptop to the netbook as the manager of my iPhone. When I try to sync my iPhone with the new computer it says that my iPhone's library is linked to another computer. It appears that all of my contacts and apps will be erased if I sync these items on the netbook.
Does anyone know a way that I can keep this information without erasing? I already erased my music content from the iPhone. I foresee a real problem since this netbook doesn't have Outlook and all my contact information is in that format. I also don't want to have my apps all wiped out. Thanks for the help.iTunes content can be synced or manually managed with an iTunes library on a single computer, and photos can be transferred to the iPhone via the iTunes sync process from a single computer only. When transferring iTunes content and photos from another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from your iPhone first.
No other content is touched or erased when doing so including iPhone contacts especially if you don't select to sync contacts with a supported application on a new computer.
iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only. With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone. If you haven't activated the new computer with your iTunes account with iTunes, you should do so before doing this.
With Windows, contacts can be synced with Outlook 2003 or 2007 along with calendar events, or with Windows Contacts for syncing contacts only.
If you don't have Outlook 2003 or 2007 available on the new computer, you will have Windows Contacts available. Before syncing contacts with Windows Contacts, enter one contact in Windows Contacts. Make the contact up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync with Windows Contacts, which you want to select.
There is no Outlook format or Apple address book format with contacts. You can sync contacts with Outlook 2003 or 2007 or with Windows Contacts on a PC, and sync contacts with Apple's address book on a Mac.
Contact, calendar events, and Safari bookmarks can be synced with the supported applications on multiple computers. With two Windows computers, with two Macs, or with a Windows computer and a Mac. -
Hep with New-Object -ComObject InternetExplorer.Application on Powershell ISE

I'm trying to work on powershell ISE (windows 7) with New-Object -ComObject InternetExplorer.Application. My issue is that I can set a variable like this:
$iemessage = $ie.Document.Body.InnerText
Beacuse for some reason will be a null variable, this is the code that I'm using which do not work on ISE, but it works on the normal porwershell console
$ie = New-Object -ComObject InternetExplorer.Application
$ie.Navigate("http://www.microsoft.com/technet/scriptcenter/default.mspx")
$iemessage = $ie.Document.Body.InnerText
this is the error I get when I use $iemessage | get-member
Get-Member : No object has been specified to the get-member cmdlet.

Problems deploying Windows 7 x64 computers with more than 8GB RAM

We have a weird problem after upgrading from SP1 to R2 CU1. We have built a Windows 7 64 bit image with the latest updates (currently September 2014 updates). It deploys fine to all computers. But after some days – don’t know exactly – guess after 4-7 days
- we start getting errors on computers with more than 8 GB of RAM. The errors just start out of the blue. We didn't change TS, image or driver package.
The error shows in 3 different ways – depending of the computer model.
1) BSOD – STOP 0x000000F4. Disk error.
2) Task Sequence error 0x87D00269 when installing the first Application in TS. The error seems to have something to do with Management Point not found.
3) Task Sequence simply stops after installing CMclient. No errors - it simply stops.
For instance we get the BSOD on the Lenovo ThinkCentre M93p. But on the ThinkCentre M83 we get the TS error 0x87D00269. M93p and M83 uses the same driver package. They consequently fail every time after the error has begun. If we reduce (remove physically)
the memory to max. 8GB of RAM, they successfully run the Task Sequence. We get the above errors on both Lenovo and HP machines with more than 8GB.
I made a copy of the production TS and started testing. I created a new driver package for M93p/M83. It contains only the NIC drivers. Now M93p an M83 successfully finishes the TS. Adding sata or chipset or MEI/SOL drivers to the package I get the 0x87D00269
error on both m93p and M83. At least not the BSOD on the M93p ;-)
Tried setting SMSTSMPListRequestTimeout to 180 in the TS. Also tried putting in a 5 minute break before installing the first Application in the TS. Also tried putting in SMSMP=mp1.mydomain in the installation properties for the CMclient. It is still
the same problem.

Investegating the 0x87D00269 error on the siteservers Status Messages Queries is weird.
Install Static Applications failed, hr=0x87d00269. The operating system reported error 617: You have attempted to change your password to one that you have used in the past. The policy of your user account does not allow this. Please select a password that
you have not previously used.
Hopefully this is a bug in translating the errorcodes? Just to be sure I checked all the SCCM serviceaccounts and none of them have expired passwords. And again why only on computers with more than 8GB RAM.
Anyone else had problems rolling computers with more than 8GB og RAM?
Why does this happens after a few days? To begin with, it runs just perfect and then starts failing on all machines with more than 8GB. Without a change in TS, image and driverpackage. We have seen this pattern for the last 3 month after
updating our image with the latest Windows Updates. It all started after updating from SP1 to R2 CU1.
Why does it only affect machines with more than 8GB RAM?
How to get rid of the 0x87D00269 error?
Seems to be somehow related to driver installation mechanism in SCCM in combination with Windows 7 64 bit, +8GB RAM and SCCM 2012 R2 CU1 or perhaps just R2.
Any help or hints would be appreciated!

How to use iMac to work with windows computers like pcAnywhere?
I just bought my first iMac, and love it. I run pcAnywhere (version 12.1) on a few windows computers for work, but need to connect to them via my new iMac and using a phone line modem. How do I do this; and I am fairly new to Mac. I have tried to install the pcAnywhere on my Mac, using pcAnywhere Cross Platform, but it will not connect at all and the error code I get is below:
You can't open the application "pcAnywhere CrossPlatform" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.
It took me over an hour to get it installed, via java downloads. I connect on my old PC's with a phone number to connect via the modem because where I am connecting to has no Internet other than a phone line.
Please help!!The PCAnywhere application you are trying to run is too old to be supported on a Mac running Lion, Mountain Lion, or any newer MacOS. I would check to see if PCAnywhere has released an updated version of the application that you can use. If not, you will probably need to go the route of virtualization (or keep an old PC around for supporting work).
If you have to use virtualization, then you might want to consider using Virtual Box (a free app) to install Windows 7 on a virtual PC, then just run the PC version of your PCAnywhere software just like you would on any other PC. You could use Virtual Box to install a MacOS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) instance and run your existing Mac version of the PCAnywhere software, but you would probably be better off to just use the Windows version.
