Cant send MMS over 3G when connected to WiFi

In australia with Virgin.
3GS, latest OS
MMS setting on.
I cannot send an MMS over 3G if the phone is connected to a WiFi network. Have to turn off WiFi to send MMS. Regular text messages fine, but if i try to send pics, it hangs then get the red exclamation that the message could not be sent.

when i was running 4.3.x on my iphone 4 i noticed that from time to time the wifi would actually mysteriously disconnect and my iphone 4 would not try to reconnect just continue to do whatever it was doing, like watching videos on 3g gobbling up my data plan. it became so frequent i turned off cellular data entirely. since i went to ios 5 i have not seen this problem come back. even on wifi if you turn off cellular data you don't get visual voice mail!! hmm
maybe if see a genius they might be able to explain what is going on
i complained to at&t and they gave me a one time credit and removed the overage charges on my account

  • Why cant send or receive imessage when connected my my home wifi network?

i can receive or send an imessage whn connectd to my home wifi network...  it works when using other wifi networks..

same here, @ other network it works, then at home it works fore a limmited time, but then it has the same problem again. it stops working

  • MMS not working when connected to wifi

My problem is similar to this recent post about the S5:
    MMS Problems with Samsung S5
It started this morning (Wednesday, 6/11/14). I have sent and received MMS messages seamlessly until about 8:00 this morning. Now, if I am connected to a wifi network, but do also have data enabled, I cannot send or receive MMS messages. When sending, it just hangs and doesn't send until I disable wifi. When receiving, I get a message wanting me to click "download", but when I do, nothing happens. Turning off wifi makes both messages go through immediately.
I understand that MMS messages do not go through wifi, but, as I said, until this morning they could go over the data network as needed even when I was connected to a wifi network. The change was sudden, and I'm not aware of anything that changed with my wifi connection or my phone, though my apps do typically auto-update, and I don't know which, if any, may have auto-updated this morning.

Sorry to hear about any trouble with your picture messages! Let's get everything back up and running for you. Is mobile data still turned on when you're connected to WiFi? If so, can you try using the Google Hangouts application for your messaging instead? I'd like to test if this will allow you to receive picture messages even when on WiFi. Keep us posted!

  • I cant send mms since i updated to ios 8 with wind mobile

i cant send mms since i updated to ios 8 with wind mobile

    Hey beastlyhippo,
Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it seems like you are having trouble with MMS messages. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.
    iOS: Troubleshooting Messages
If you can't send and receive MMS
You will need these to send and receive MMS:
    An iPhone 3G or later
    iOS 3.1 or later
A cellular data connection (MMS isn't available if you're using only Wi-Fi)
A domestic MMS plan from your cellular provider. You might need an international messaging plan to send MMS to an international contact (Contact your carrier for more information.)
A roaming MMS when using a cellular provider's network that is different from your billing cellular provider's network (Learn more about roaming and contact your carrier for more information.)
To resolve issues with sending and receiving MMS, follow these steps
Go to Settings and turn airplane mode off.
Go to Settings > Messages and turn MMS Messaging on.
Go to Settings > Cellular and turn Cellular Data on.
Go to Settings > Cellular and turn Data Roaming on if you're roaming on a cellular provider network that is different from your billing provider's network.
Make sure that you have a cellular data connection in the status bar of your iPhone.
Go to Settings and turn Wi-Fi off. Open Safari and navigate to www.apple.com to verify that you have a data connection. Turn Wi-Fi back on to continue using Wi-Fi for other features. If your cellular data connection isn't available, follow these steps.
Make sure that you can send and receive SMS. If you can't send and receive SMS, see the "Issues with sending and receiving SMS" section, above. MMS might not be available while you're on a call. Only 3G and faster GSM networks support simultaneous data and voice calls. Learn more about which network your phone supports.
    Restart your iPhone.
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings on your iPhone.
Remove your SIM card and insert it again.
If you still can't send or receive MMS, follow these steps
Make sure that the contact trying to message you isn't blocked in Settings > Messages > Blocked.
Go to Settings > Messages and turn on group messaging if you're sending a group message.
Make sure that you're using the area code with the contact's phone number. When you send messages internationally, you also need the contact's international code.
If you're using a "Pay as you go" MMS plan, make sure it has enough available balance. If you're unsure of your MMS plan or available balance, contact your carrier.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, back up or forward important messages and delete your current messaging threads with the contact. Create a new message to the contact and try again.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, delete and recreate the contact from the Contacts app. Send a new message to the new contact.
Back up and restore your iPhone as new.
If your carrier has recently ported your phone number, the porting process might not be complete. Contact your carrier to confirm that the porting process is complete.
Contact your carrier to verify that you're provisioned to send SMS and are in an area with cellular coverage.
Contact your carrier to verify that there aren't blocks or filters on your wireless account preventing you from sending SMS.
Your carrier might require modified APN settings to use MMS.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Mario

  • Hi, does anyone know why I cant send email over 3g but can over wi-fi.  My provider is ntlworld

Hi, does anyone know why I cant send email over 3g but can over wi-fi.  My provider is ntlworld.  As soon as I get home and connect to wi-fi the mail sends no problem

We use ntlworld as our home broadband provider and main email address.  In my experience ntl doesn't usually allow sending of email except on its own network which is why yours works at home.  My iPhone is set up to send my ntl email using my second email account's smtp setting (in my case is is a mac.com account and I haven't found any network this doesn't work on  to send email).
So my advice is to get yourself another email account with a different provider like yahoo or google, then use the new provider smtp address to send your ntl email on your iPhone.

  • Mail only sends messages when connected to WiFi? Hmmmm.

Hi. I've got a POP3 email account that I have to set up manually. For some reason, emails can only be sent when connected to WiFi but not over a cellular data network. Anyone got any ideas? I can receive mail fine through either WiFi or Cellular Data Network.
    Many thanks,
    Max

Do you have a wireless network at home and Is the email account provided by your internet service provider associated with your wireless network?
Most, if not all internet service providers block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network or not provided by the ISP being used for your internet connection at the time unless the SMTP server is authenticated. The same applies when connected to the internet via the cellular network. Recieving is not a problem regardless the ISP being used for your internet connection at the time.
If the email account is provided by your ISP, most ISPs do not have an authenticated SMTP sever for the email account they provide.
Both my email accounts have an authenticated SMTP server and I've never had a problem sending with either account regardless the ISP associated with a wi-fi network I'm connected to at the time or when connected to AT&T's cellular network - for 2+ years aporoaching 3 years this July.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Cant send MMS on iPhone 4 At&t

Cant send mms on iPhone 4 at&t runing ios 6 noticed the problem after i tried to send mms

Have you tried calling VZW tech support? If the people at the location you went to had no clue what they were really doing (it would seem that way if they didn't offer to replace your device...even if they didn't have one in stock they could have placed an order for it...wouldn't be an immediate fix but it would have shown some initiative)...someone at tech support over the phone may have better success.

    Hi spectatiouz,
We're here to help. Are you only having issue sending an MMS? How about when receiving? Do you have an active MMS service from your network operator? Are you getting any error message when trying to send an MMS?
Aside from the recommendations given by @farby, you can try the workaround given below:
    • FAQ - I cannot send or receive multimedia messages on my Lumia phone

@Dmitriy Buldakov, have you found the solution to the issue yet? I have the same problem, no option to turn on MMS in my iPhone settings. I checked the settings on my friend's iPhone, which has the same iOS version as me (8.1.1), and the option is there. It's really annoying...
