Capacity planning 9iAS/Portal and/or 9iAS

I've looked all over metalink and otn, and can't find any good info on capacity planning for 9iAS/Portal, or 9iAS in general. #CPU, RAM, etc.
This is the closest I've gotten so far:
http://technet.oracle.com/products/ias/install-faq.html
http://otn.oracle.com/products/forms/pdf/6iscalability.pdf
Does Oracle just refers customers to their www.oracle.com/consulting ($?) group for this information, or is it documented somewhere that customers can see?
I understand that for a complex large scale enterprise Portal deployment that it would be necessary to hire consultants for hardware sizing and architecture, but there have to be some free guidelines that would be useful for customers with smaller requirements?
Thanks,

This was posted the day prior to our offline discussion. Am still interested in continuing our conversation (via this forum if you'd prefer).
Have you had a chance to look at the cacheability report that I had sent to you?
Aside from server clock issue I'd like to know what etags are used and generated by the portal infrastructure.
This is an important issue for our globalization project.
Many thanks and hope you're traveling safe!

    Hi everyone,
Currently I´m looking for information about Capacity Planning in ME-3600 and ME-3800 devices. I need to know about hardware description in detail, thresholds used (cpu, memory, etc), interfaces, queuing, latency and all the related with capacity planning.
I was looking for this information in cisco.com, but I didn´t find nothing.

  • URGENT - Oracle 9i, Oracle 9iAS, and Oracle 9iAS Portal Installation Problem

    ERROR :
    1. Objects with type JAVA CLASS with more than 30 characters are truncated to 30 characters
    2. There are only 30 objects with type JAVA CLASS are installed (instead of 334) mentioned on the troubleshooting guide
    3. Oracle9iASHttpService automatically stops after starting the service
    Environment :
    Windows 2000 Server
    Oracle 9i 9.0.1.1.1
    Oracle 9iAS 3.0.9.8.2 (Oracle 9iAS 1.0.2.2.2a)
PDK Services for Java version 3.0.9.0.4 (from Patch used to install 3.0.9.8.2)
    Patches 8.1.7.1.1, 8.1.7.1.5, 3.0.9.8.2
I installed the Oracle 9i, 9iAS, Portal and the patches based on the installation instructions (http://portalstudio.oracle.com/pls/ops/docs/FOLDER/COMMUNITY/OTN_CONTENT/DOCUMENTATION/INSTALL_GUIDE_9I.PDF)
I tried adding the Sample Web Provider I got ORA-29531 error on HttpProviderDispatcher. Then I checked the Patch 8.1.7.1.1 installation, they are some scripts that need to be run that was not part of the 9i/9iAS installation instruction. I run the suggested scripts(catalog.sql, catproc.sql and utlrp.sql) and modified the jserv.properties to point the xsqlconfig.xml to ORACLE_HOME\oracore\admin.
The error still persisted. From the Troubleshooting PDK Services for Java, one of the suggestion is to run the sql command :
    Select object_name, object_type, status from user_objects where object_name like '%HttpProvider%';
which resulted to an object with name '/3334f18_HttpProviderDispatche' without the 'r' at the end
    and
    Select count(object_name) from user_objects where object_type='JAVA CLASS';
which resulted to only 30 VALID object. According to the installation instruction, there are supposedly 334 objects.
I checked the object_name of the other JAVA CLASS objects, all the names of the objects are all less than 30 characters. It looks like that the objects with the object_name > 30 are truncated to 30 characters.
Then I rebooted the machine, when the machine went back on Oracle9iASHttpService stops automatically after it has been started.

I have posted question on that thread and there is no specific solution from our problem. From the Oracle PDK Troubleshooting PDK Services for Java, it looks like there is a problem on the Oracle Portal installation. I tried recompiling the packages and my problem worsened. Now I cannot start the Oracle9iAS HTTP Service.

  • Install Oracle 9iAS - Portal & infrastructure

    Hi,
I installed Oracle 9iAS Infrastructure in c:\OraHome. When I try to install Oracle 9iAS - Portal and Wireless in the next step, it seems not possible to install this product in the same Oracle home (c:\OraHome). Will this cause problems later ? Where can I find information which explains the general concept of 'homes'. If the products are in different homes can Portal and SSO service still draw information from the same database ?
    Kind regards,

Oracle Application Server middle tiers (Portal for example) needs to exist in a separate Oracle Home from Identity Management or Metadata Repository. Please refer to the installation guide.

  • Capacity planning cleaning

    Hi Experts,
Users would like to clean the capacity planning (ie : intervals and shifts defined for a work center). Is it possible to delete the obsolete intervals in order to just keep the planning of the shifts for the last 3 months ? Need explanation on this.
    Thanks so much in advanace,

    Hi John Jay Palisco.
Generally we can define two types of Avilable capacity for workcenter.
1.Standard avillable capacity - This is maintained at Capacity header
    2. Interval of  Avilable capacity - This can be maintained via "intervals at shifts"
"Standard Avilable capacity" is valid indefinitely as long as an "interval of available capacity " has not been activated. If "interval of avila capacity "is actiavted for a Period (Ex 01.12.2007- 30.12.2007), system will consider avilable capacites within this period  as per the "interval avillable capcity" - Out side this period  sutem will consider "Standard avillable capacity "
    <b>Impact</b>
So if u delete one "Interval of  Avilable capacity " , Standard Avilable capacity will come into the  effect by default. u can delete current  "Interval of  Avilable capacity " also not only in past.

  • 9ias 10222 and Portal 30985

I'm running 9ias r1 and Portal. I'm trying to tweak it so that when a user changes their password, the user cannot use the previously used password. So when a user changes their password, they have to use a password that is different than the one they used previous to the current. Does anybody have any ideas for me?

I'm not aware of a publicly available portlet for Oracle9iAS email as of yet.

  • 9iAS Portal intsllation question

We are designing the technical architecture for a terabyte size data warehouse. We are proposing and end to end Oracle solution, uing 9iAS Portal for end user access to the warehouse star schema.
Is it required that portal schemas (portal, portal_sso) be installed in the same database as the data warehouse data? If not required, then is it recommended? What are the pros and cons of this approach?

No, it is not required to have the data in the same instance. The recommended approach depends on how you plan to expose the data through the portal. If you are planning on creating web providers/portlets that access and display the data, then it would be better to have the data in a different instance. If you are using Webview components and/or PL/SQL providers, separate instances would require the use of DBLinks which can be problematic from a performance perspective. In that case, it boils down to how much CPU you have on the warehouse instance. The portal requires a significant amount of CPU, so if the machine is already fairly loaded with warehouse activity then the distributed solution is likely to be better.

  • How to reuse a 9iAS Portal database connection in a BC4J application?

    Hi,
I have a 9iAS Portal 9.0.2 application, and I want to call a BC4J/UIX application from the Portal application. Ideally I would like to reuse the database connection already established within Portal, because it has authenticated the user with the SSO, and has all of the Portal and VPD settings already in the environment. I don't want to ask the users to re-log in.
I have looked at the Portal Java PDK and cannot find anything appropriate - has anyone accomplished this, or is there another way of doing this?
    Thanks,
    Steve

BC4J supports JAAS authentication.. look at the jazn stuff. When u deploy your application on 9ias one of the pages in the wizard asks what kind of authenticatoin you would like to use, you might be able to set something up there...
Also you an secure the URL in the httpd.conf file so that if a user directly attemps to access that application they are presented with the SSO log in screen.

    Richard,
You'll need to have 1.0.2.2 to be installed on the middle tier before performing the upgrade for your portal 3.0.9 upgrade repository on the database end. So that means, you'll need to wait for the Linux download of iAS 1.0.2.2 to be available before beginning your upgrade of the portal repository, assuming that your middle tier of iAS is also on a Linux box.
iAS 1.0.2.2 does indeed include Portal 3.0.9, of which Portal 3.0.9 components will be installed during the upgrade process along with the upgrade of the middle tier. During the upgrade process, the installer (from my personal experience on NT), will notify you that it is performing an upgrade installation of your middle tier, provided that you specified the middle tier's ORACLE_HOME when executing the oracle installer.
Just be sure to read and follow the 9iAS Migration guide before beginning your upgrade of the middle tier to iAS 1.0.2.2. After upgrading the middle tier to 1.0.2.2, the actual upgrade of the portal repository was extremely simple by comparison.
The upgrade of the portal repository took a few hours (my recommendation is to invoke it off before leaving for the evening), and it will leave a detailed logfile for you to peruse afterwards, if you choose).
    Best Regards,
    Harry

  • Using OID with 9ias Portal

Has anyone deployed OID as the login service for ias applications or portal? Would appreciate any comments as we're considering it, not sure of the logistics in setting it up.

    Hello:
I have Portal and Login Server running with OID. Make sure that 9iAS is in a seperate home to the 8.1.7 database. I would recomend installing OID and 8.1.7 in one instance and 9iAS in a seperate instance. If you install 9iAS in the same instance as your database you will have install failures.

  • Migrate page w/ Disco portlets from one 9iAS portal instance to another?

    Hi.
Has anyone migrated pages with Discoverer portlets from one instance of 9iAS portal to another?
We want to maintain development and production 9iAS setups, and need some mechanism to move pages wholesale from one app server to the other.

    Hi Sumit,
Thank you very much for the early response.
The personalization has been done at the Site level.
After migrating the code the server was bounced.
    On the executing the script given by you i.e jdr_utils.printdocument('/oracle/apps/pon/negotiation/creation/webui/customization/site/0/ponDefineHdrPG');
Its giving "Error: Could not find document /oracle/apps/pon/negotiation/creation/webui/customization/site/0/ponDefineHdrPG".
Can you please guide me what i am missing.
Waiting for your reply at the earliest.
    Thanks and Regards

  • Do I need start the database before installing Oracle 9iAS portal?

I found the Oracle white paper which talks about installing
Oracle8i EE and Oracle 9iAS portal on windows 2000. Based this
document, after Oracle 8i installaion but before installing
Oracle 8.1.7.1.1 path, all the Oracle database related services
startup type have been changed to 'Manual'.
Based on my understanding, there are some objects will be
created in this database during the installation of 9iAS portal
repository. But this oracle white paper didn't say that I need
have the database ruuning during the 9iAS installation. Do I
need to start the database before installing 9iAS?
    Thanks

    hi,
Even i am new to oracle application server and had the same doubt that you have.
When you install Application Server there would be two tiers installed, application tier and middle tier, these tiers can be running from the same machine or different machines.
These tiers will have a meta data repository to store application server related data, this database will be installed along with application server.
It is upto you to install "oracle database 10gR2 " before or after installaion of application server, this will be an independent database which will have its own home, but after this installation you will have three homes, ex: infra_home,mid_home and 10gR2_home.
by default oracle_home is set to the last installation that happens so if you install the database 10gR2 after installing application server it will point to 10gR2_home, but if you install 10gR2 before and application server later then the oracle home will be infra_home(if both the middle tier and infratier are on the same machine)
you can always change the oracle home by using set ORACLE_HOME=path/to/oracle/home( in windows)
    or export ORACLE_HOME=path/to/oracle/home (in unix)
    hope this helps....
    regards

  • Changing IP  on 9iAS Portal

I have 9iAS Portal running with a 8.1.7.2 database. I logged in correctly using <servername>/pls/portal30.
I had to change the ip of the machine, and network settings (windows 2000 adv serv).
    Now I can't access <servernane>/pls/portal30.
Where do I have to make the changes to get it to work again?

    Nevermind.
