Capacity planning of a farm.

One of the customer wants to try the SharePoint as Content Management & Collaboration solution. Customer has 225000 users, 10,000 active users daily. Users are across the global. I am working on Farm design. Since Customer is not sure whether they will
opt the SharePoint so I am thinking that I should purpose minimum infrastructure that can handle the load. Initially Farm wouldn't have more than 1 TB of documents. Enterprise Search will also be enabled.
Should I purpose single farm that will be accessed across the globe. I suppose this will not work since WAN latency between three continents might be the issue.

  • Capacity planning for a Workflow Manager Farm

I'm planning a WFM farm deployment for my SharePoint farm. I'm having difficulty estimating the DB instance storage. Microsoft does not really have any recommendations for storage and I'm not sure what database disk space I allocate to it should be. I don't
even have a clue on what would be a good starting point.
I will be installing the WFM on three servers running Windows Server 2012, running on a separate DB instance.
Any suggestions and explanations would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
There is no specific requirements for WFM. You can start with the minimum diskspace and later you can add based on the usability of WFM farm.

  • Capacity Planning for Workflow Manager

Some information is available regarding highly available Workflow Manager implementations but I cannot find any information regarding when or how you should perform capacity planning for the workflow manager.
A few questions are jumping out at me.
When would we want/need a dedicated Workflow Manager server? (I can understand if this was shared between multiple farms this may be a benefit but what about from a pure capacity perspective).
Are there any case studies or documentation that we can use as a baseline estimation for capacity for the workflow manager?
Generally speaking for a small/medium farm deployment is it expected that this service also run on the application server?

    @cory_peters

That would really depend on what kind of workflows are being run and the traffic being generated by the users. If you have long and complex workflows, you will need multiple nodes in the farm to handle.
Our tests with very simple workflows on a 16-core 16GB machine with SQL Server on a diff machine showed that it could handle 400 incoming messages per second and 65 workflow executed per second. Now if you have complex workflows, it may slow down further.
If you have one msg per user per second - it may mean 400 users handled per second. But I wouldn't make that conclusion - u must test your farms against your scale needs and accordingly plan your farm capacity

  • Operations are not getting despatched in capacity planning table

    Hi Experts,
I am using capacity planning table (Graphical) to level the capacities and sequence the process orders. The start date of my orders are very well in future and sufficient capacities also is available in resources. But when I go to CM25 and select one order and click on despatch, system is not despatching it. This is the case for almost all the overall profiles.
The surprising factor is, this function was working fine earlier without any issues. I havent done any changes in configs which will affect capacity planning.
What can be the reason for this? Any thoughts please?.
One more thing. Is there any option to avoid the capacity planning step if Iam using R/3 and manage it by some other way?
    Appreciate your earlier reply
    Thanks & Regards

Most likely you didnt define the rowsource key properly. Please look under <install>/errors folder for any file there.
Also, please read the documentation. There is information there about how to troubleshoot a loading problem. Please always read the documentation and we would appreciate feedback on the documentation.

  • Machine capacity planning and efficency

    Dear Guru,
I have number of machines and i want there individual capacity and efficency can we see that by any report or any tcode to see all capacity of machine. What is capacity leveling.
Is thee any configuration for capacity planning.
    Thanks in advance

Hi, the following configuration steps involved in the capacity planning: SPRO --> IMG --> PRODUCTION --> CAPACITY REQUIREMENT PLANNING Capacity Requirements Planning: 1) Define time units 2) Define Capacity Category 3) Set up Capacity Planner. 4) Define parameters 5) Define Standard value key. 6) Define Move time matrix. 7) Define Setup matrix. 8) Define Control Key. 9) Define Shift Sequence. 10) Define Key for performance efficiency rate. 11) Define Formula parameters. 12) Specify Scheduling type. 13) Set up Production scheduler group 14) Select Automatically. 15) Define Scheduling parameters for Production orders 16) Define Scheduling parameters for networks. 17) Define Reduction Strategies planned/ production orders. 18) Define Reduction Strategies for network/process orders. 19) Define Control Profile. 20) Define Selection profile. 21) Define time profile. 22) Define Evaluation profile. 23) Define Strategy Profile. You can follow these above configuration steps in capacity planning Yes you need to active your all work center for the finite scheduling at the bottom of capacity view. Use all standard SAP configurations, Capacity Leveling Profile. Define time profile in OPD2. Define the strategy profile in OPDB Define the Overall profiles in OPD0. Then only you need to to active your all work center for the finite scheduling at the bottom of capacity view in work center.(CR02) Then run MRP with scheduling- 2 Lead time scheduling and capacity planning.(MD02) You will get your capacity requirement in CM01, or CM25/CM21. • Capacity planning and schedulng production order based on availabe capacity

    Hi Gurus,
I am trying to use capacity planning, when the production order is created it takes the order start date as the requirement date. Then when i do he capaity check it says capaity not available. After finite scheduling again it proposes to shift operations by certain days.
I need the capity to be check in MRP and the palled orders to have start dates based on aviable capity, currenty all the palled orders are starting on the requirement date irresptive of avaiabe capaity. I tried using finite scheduling option in MD02 still it does not take in to account exsting production orders for giving dates of the planned orders.
    Regards
    Abhi

    Dear Abhishek,
    1) This is Std SAP of MRP, only material Av check will be carried out in MRP & create procurement
    Proposals
    2) Capacities will not Checked  ( consider ) in MRP in Std R/3
    3) Your Need can be only met through APO

  • Bandwidth Utilization Avg or Max for capacity Planning best practice

Hello All - This is a conceptual or Non-Cisco product question. Hope you can help me to get this best industry practice
I am doing a Capacity planning for the WAN Link Bandwidth. To study the last month bandwidth utilization in the MRTG graph, i am seeing  two values
    Average
    Maximum.
To measure how much bandwidth my remote location is using which value i have to use. Average or Max?
Average is always low eg. 20% to 30%
Maximum is continuous 100% for 3 hour in 3 different intervals in a day and become 60% in rest of the day
What is the best practice followed in the networking industry to derive the upgrade size of the bandwidth by using the Utilization graph
    regards,
    SAIRAM

    Hello.
It makes no sense to use average during whole day (or a month), as you do the capacity management to avoid business impact due to link utilization; and average does not help you to catch is the end-users experience any performance issues.
Typically your capacity management algorithm/thresholds are dependent on traffic patterns. As theses are really different cases if you run SAP+VoIP vs. youtube+Outlook. If you have any business critical traffic, you need to deploy QoS (unless you are allowed to increase link bandwidth infinitely).
So, I would recommend to use 95-percentile of maximum values on 5-15 minutes interval (your algorithm/thresholds will be really sensitive to pooling interval, so choose it carefully). After to collect baseline (for a month or so)  - go and ask users about their experience and try to correlate poor experience with traffic bursts. This would help you to define thresholds for link upgrade triggers.
PS: proactive capacity management includes link planning for new sites and their impact on existing links (in HQ and other spoke).
PS2: also I would recommend to separately track utilization during business hours (business traffic) and non-business (service or backup traffic).

  • Setting needed for Capacity Planning.

    Hi PP Gurus,
I want to know what setting we have to do for capacity planning.
    what I know is:
    1. W/C should be set for finite scheduling.
    2. In scheduling parameters for process order tick "Generate capacity Requirement".
This both setting are made in my scenario, but it is'nt loading the work center fot that week.
    Any other setting nedded?
    Thanks, in advance.

    Dear ,
You need to have following set up at basic level frist before you perfomr the capacity requirement planning  :
1.In OPKP-Define Production Scheduling parameter -Availability check -Confirm Capacity and also Finite Scheduling chekc box ticked .
2.In OPU3/OPU5-Define Scheduling Parametesr -you should mark the following
1.Automatic Scheduling check box should be marked
2.Scheduling Log check box should be marked -generate in case there is a scheduling error due to capacity over load .
3.Scedulinga and Generate Capcity should be ticked .
3.In OPJK Imaintain check capacity with SAPSFCG013 overall profile and set indicator -1 -Release Order -by user decision if capacity is insufficient
4.Work Center - Define the capcity planner group, activate checkbox Relevant for Finite sceduling,on the capacity header define the shift timings, break timings and unit of measure,no of individual capaity, enter formula for scheduling in capacity view.
5.Routing - enter the values for the standard values. Use control key with scheduling and CRP activated .
    6. OPD0 and have the following set up  : Overall profile : SFAPSFC015 --Inside the over all profile I have the following set up
1.Selection Profile -SAPSFCS013 SFC: Order view, standard overview
    2.Control Profile : SAP___C004 : Gen Capacity Availability Check for 1.5 months
    3.Time Profile : SAP___Z006 : Gen Capacity Availability Check for 1.5 months
    4.Evalution Profile : SAPSFCA013 : Gen Capacity Availability Chek =3.0D
    5.Strategy Profile : SAPSFCVER1-Gen Capacity availability Check
    6.Period Profile : SAP___P001 -Weekly period
    7.List Profile : SAPSFCI001-Production Planing
Check all of them in place .Then you can go ahead with Capacity Req.Planning -Evalution and Leveling -CM21/CM22/CM05/CM07  etc.
Refere the below theread for farther reference :

  • How to go about capacity planning for storage ?

    Hi Experts,
How to go about Capacity Planning? For  instance if clients wants to upgrade to new server and new storage and asks us how much additional storage do you need for next 5 years, how can calculate the amount of storage.
I don't have any baseline info about the server of past years. Where can I start and any scripts you guys use for doing capacity planning?
    Appreciate your help.

  • Planned order splitting during capacity planning

    Hello,
anybody plese help me during the capacity planning in T.code.CM31 i want to split a planned order and want to assign alternative sequence. how can i do this and the capacity should be reschedule automatically to my requirement date. i am using backward scheduling.
    plese suggest immediately
    Thanks and reagards
    Bhakta

    Dear Bhakta
MRP does not perfom any Capacity Requirement Planning .While  you are executing MRP with Lead Time Scheduling , MRP proposes Planned Order Dates based on the Routing Operation Timing not based on the Work Centre available Capacity because in SAP Std R/3 we did not have scope to check the finite scheduling and capacity requirement chek .MRP assume that Work Centre has infinite available capacity .
In MRP run , it will give you Detail scheduling of the Operation in Planned Order -Detail Scheduling tab  and copied the routing , BOM as master data .When you convert that Planned order to Production order , it will copy the Routing details based on the Order Type denpendt Parameters -OPL8-Routing -Alternative sequnce  and Automatic selection -3 option
Thats why we have Capacity Requirement Planning  for Detail Capcity check and production order scheduling  .
Note : Earlier to my first  reply , please note that you have option in CM21  enter sequence number  at order level which may applicable to you .CM21-Work Centre -exectute -Select the Order from order pool -Goto Order -Sequence number maintainence
This number( sequence number operation /order )  that can be assigned to production orders or planned orders at the level of the task list header and is therefore valid for all the operations in an order.
Hope this is clear .Revert if you nees farther help

  • How to use parallel sequence in capacity planning.

How we can use parallel seq in capacity planning?we have two machines which can be run parallel for production ,now how  to distribute capacity load? suppose for the production of 100 km,we required 1000 min when it is produced through only one machine. Now if 2 machines are used simultaneously we required 500 min.How to see this in capacity planning?

    Dear,
For calculating Available capacity you have options like minimum capacity, normal capacity and maximum capacity. You can select this option in work center-capacity tab for individual capacity category.
With parallel sequence and with both machines you can select maximum capacity option and plan your capacity.
    Hope this is helpful.

    Dear ,
To answer the question for Capacity requirement planning on sales order I would say that MRP does  only materials planning based on demand and reciept  but never does Capacity Requirement Plannig .MRP generates Planned Order  and susequently , production order can be genreted and farther you can carry out capacity requirement planning based on the work cente available capacity , requirement and load for those MTO orders .
But there are SAP business suit like APO-SNP APO PPDS which carriy our details scheduleing and caapcity check based on the demand situation : Sales Order ,Independent Order  and does capcaity vaialbality chek for those demands while planning .
Now , here is the answer of your question :
    1) Can Capacities are Scheduled as per priority given in SO automatically. : Not possible  through  SAP MRP but in APO-PPDS, APO-SNP-CTM , Herustic model .
    2) Can revised availability dates will be reflected in SO. : It can be reflected as per the ATP chekc , Replishmenet Lead  Time and re-scheduling horizon maintained in OPPQ-Carry all overall plant parametres.
    3) Which reports will be useful for understanding consolidated availability date of material for given sales order/s. : You can check through MD04/MD05 or in sales order -Availaibility check -Schedule Line -Availaibility date .
Hope your are clear about the requirememt .

  • Any std report in Capacity Planning showing only dispatched orders/opns ?

    Hi CRP gurus:
Does SAP has any standard report/transaction in Capacity Planning that shows (or has a selection for showing) only "dispatched" orders/opns ?
    - Chetan

    Chetan,
Use transaction COOIS. In this choose Operations, System status as DSPT at operation level, enter plant and execute. You will get only orders and the operations which are dispatched in this plant.
You can navigate to the capacity planning table from the selected records through order change.
Hope this is ok with you,...reward points..and close.

  • HR personnel availability as input to PM labor capacity planning

    Good Day SAP Gurus!
I am looking at using HR's personnel availability as input to PM capacity planning.
    I am planing to take this approach;
1.Reference HR in shift definition in IMG
2.Use the shift grouping in Work Ctr capacity header
3.Define Interval of Available Capacity using the shift defined
Appreciate your valuable inputs for the above steps to ensure it will work as well as the transactions/table to check personnel availability between HR and PM.
Also, I have read that I can use "Performing Work Center" in operations of capacity category "personnel" for the same purpose but I don't know how this works.
Anyone has better approach? Thanks a lot in advance!!

    Hi
    without knowing the answer:
i would first check the integration points of PErsonnel Time Management with other SAP Applications. As far as I remember is the "CATS" (Cross Application Time Services) function collecting data for cross company topics, like capacity leveling tasks.
