Capital A glyph in CC 2014 vs. CS5

I'm having a slight problem with the font Houschka Pro in InDesign CC 2014 (Mac, 10.9.4, 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, ) In CS 5 when we typed the letter A we got the nice rounded top version (see screen shots below). In CC 2014 we get the pointed top version, I checked CS 6 and also get the pointed top version. Is there a way to have InDesign automatically chose the glyph with the rounded top like it did in CS5? Right now I'm working my way through a 48 page document replacing all the A's and I don't want to have to do that again.

Here's a follow-up for anyone interested:
Something has changed in the way Adobe applications access Contextual Alternates for Open Type fonts. (This is a feature you can get to by going to the fly out menu in the Character pallet and choosing Open Type or via the Paragraph Style and choosing Open Type Features). In CS5 it didn't seem to matter if it was selected or not (at least for Houschka Pro) but in CC you NEED TO DESELECT IT. This applies to both InDesign and Illustrator. I haven’t looked in Photoshop yet but who uses photoshop to set type? Right? OK, I just checked. Photoshop works they way it use to. With Contextual Alternates selected you get the correct characters.
By correct characters I'm talking about the capital A and capital W. See my screen shots at the top. The curved top A is the correct version of the character.
Can anyone else confirm this or is it something specific to our situation? I'm using CC 2014 10.0.0.70 Build on a Mac running 10.9.4

Mac vs PC, CS5 vs CC 2014

Hello, my spouse was recently told by an IT person at her place of employment that there was no functional differences between CC 2014 and CS5. Also that CS runs best on 64bit Windows over Macs. Can anyone speak to either of these points before products are ordered?

1 - CS5 is no longer sold, but you may still buy Creative Suite 6
2 - There ARE differences between the 3+ year old CS6 and the up to date Cloud programs... how MUCH of a difference depends on the individual programs
3 - I am Windows only so can't comment on Win-vs-Mac

CS4 document in CS5: Text is underlayed yellow

Hi,
when opening a CS4 document in CS5, some text is now underlayed yellow. Strangely, almost always just headings and not all words or even letters.
Can anyone tell me what this means and which settings are responsible for this?

Just found the answer to my own question, and a resulting new question.
Preferences > Composition tab was a good tip.
If the "replace glyphs" box is checked AND the text uses CAPITAL LETTERS, either through a paragraph or character format or using the All Caps icon in the tool bar, the text is underlayed yellow. Sometimes all letters of all words, sometimes all letters except the first letter of a word...
Also, some combinations of letters in regular "Body" text are also underlayed yellow, e.g. letter combination "fi" or "fl" anywhere in a word. Changing the font does not make any difference.
This seems to me quite strange behavior... What is it supposed to mean? Are CAPITAL LETTERS or letters like "fi" or "fl"now glyphs? Is this "normal" CS5 behavior?

CS5 and CS5.5 support ending

Just reading through the What's new in version 30 and thought this was worth pointing out:
Advance notice: DPS to drop support of InDesign CS5.5 and CS5 in v32
With the v32 release (tentatively scheduled for September 2014), InDesign CS5.5 and InDesign CS5 will still be able to create source documents for DPS, but uploading articles to the Folio Producer Service will require InDesign CS6 or later.

Just to clarify, my understanding is that once v32 comes out we can still create layouts/documents using CS5.5 but will NOT be able to access and upload it on folio builder unless we use CS6 or later for this. Am I right?

FlashCC 2014 - Adjust 3D Perspective Angle - Where did it go?

In Flash Professional CS5 it was possible in document settings to tell flash to save current stage projection or not.
Where can I find this in FlashCC 2014?

The 512 MB are a minimum requirement, not some optional thing. Without it, 3D will never work.

Photoshop CC print quality inferior to CS5, why?

Why is it when I print an identical file in Photoshop CC 2014 and CS5, that the CS5 one matches the monitor, but CC2014 is different, no matter what print setting I try with it? It looks like CC 2014 is trying to guess what I would want for my colors, with them being more grainy. Whereas the same print setting in CS5 has a great dot spread, and accurate color?

Lawrence, you are going to as familiar with Photoshop idiosyncrasies as most of us, but isn't is still likely to be an issue with the print driver? Have you tried changing the print settings, like Printer manages colour etc.? What printer are you using?
BTW 8.5 is news to me. I'm slightly surprised at an upgrade being released so close to the big June 18th updates.

Have New Camera Can't Open RAW in CS5

Have CS5 and a new camera, a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000. I tried uploading the RAW plug in, but I still can't get my photos to open. Suggestions?

Support for the FZ1000 was just added to the very latest Camera Raw 8.6 which is only compatible with CS6, CC and CC 2014.
CS5 is only compatible with Camera Raw up to 6.7. CS5 is not compatible with later versions of Camera Raw so there's no way to open FZ1000 Raw files in CS5.

CS4 Document Presentation API

Hello,
I started working with InDesign CS4 SDK, I am offen working with opening documents and manipulating with them a CS4 uses a new implementation of presentation documents called OWL. IWindow is not supported due to different representation of document windows.
I want to ask you about some problems:
1) How could I get f.e. IControlView of a Document presentation to change position or size ?
2) How could I hide a presentation without closing document, IWindow was easy to hide ?

How do I get Camera Raw for Nikon D810

You need CS6 or CC or CC 2014. CS5 stopped being updated when CS6 was released.

Problems updating projects to new versions of Premiere (CS5 to CC and CC to CC 2014) Memory consumption during re-index and Offline MPEG Clips in CC 2014

I have 24GB of RAM in my 64 bit Windows 7 system running on RAID 5 with an i7 CPU.
A while ago I updated from Premiere CS5 to CC and then from Premiere CC to CC 2014. I updated all my then current projects to the new version as well.
Most of the projects contained 1080i 25fps (1080x1440 anamorphic) MPEG clips originally imported (captured from HDV tape) from a Sony HDV camera using Premiere CS5 or CC.
Memory consumption during re-indexing.
When updating projects I experienced frequent crashes going from CS5 to CC and later going from CC to CC 2014. Updating projects caused all clips in the project to be re-indexed. The crashes were due to the re-indexing process causing excessive RAM consumption and I had to re-open each project several times before the re-index would eventually complete successfully. This is despite using the setting to limit the RAM consumed by Premiere to much less than the 24GB RAM in my system.
I checked that clips played; there were no errors generated; no clips showed as Offline.
Some Clips now Offline:Importer CC 2014
Now, after some months editing one project I found some of the MPEG clips have been flagged as "Offline: Importer" and will not relink. The error reported is "An error occurred decompressing video or audio".
The same clips play perfectly well in, for example, Windows Media Player.
I still have the earlier Premiere CC and the project file and the clips that CC 2014 importer rejects are still OK in the Premiere CC version of the project.
It seems that the importer in CC 2014 has a bug that causes it to reject MPEG clips with which earlier versions of Premiere had no problem.
It's not the sort of problem expected with a premium product.
After this experience, I will not be updating premiere mid-project ever again.
How can I get these clips into CC 2014? I can't go back to the version of the project in Premiere CC without losing hours of work/edits in Premiere CC 2014.

To answer my own question: I could find no answer to this myself and, with there being no replies in this forum, I have resorted to re-capturing the affected HDV tapes from scratch.
Luckily, I still had my HDV camera and the source tapes and had not already used any of the clips that became Offline in Premiere Pro CC 2014.
It seems clear that the MPEG importer in Premiere Pro CC 2014 rejects clips that Premiere Pro CC once accepted. It's a pretty horrible bug that ought to be fixed. Whether Adobe have a workaround or at least know about this issue and are working on it is unknown.
It also seems clear that the clip re-indexing process that occurs when upgrading a project (from CS5 to CC and also from CC to CC 2014) has a bug which causes memory consumption to grow continuously while it runs. I have 24GB RAM in my system and regardless of the amount RAM I allocated to Premiere Pro, it would eventually crash. Fortunately on restarting Premiere Pro and re-loading the project, re-indexing would resume where it left off, and, depending on the size of the project (number of clips to be indexed), after many repeated crashes and restarts re-indexing would eventually complete and the project would be OK after that.
It also seems clear that Adobe support isn't the greatest at recognising and responding when there are technical issues, publishing "known issues" (I could find no Adobe reference to either of these issues) or publishing workarounds. I logged the re-index issue as a bug and had zero response. Surely I am not the only one who has experienced these particular issues?
This is very poor support for what is supposed to be a premium product.
Lesson learned: I won't be upgrading Premiere again mid project after these experiences.

Problem using Illustrator CS5 and CC 2014 in same PC

I am developing some Illustrator scripts using VBScript, which should work on CS5, CS6 or CC 2014. When the scripts will be called, the user will pass, as command line argument, which Illustrator version they want to use. Accordingly I am instantiating the appropriate Illustrator scripting object by the following code:

This is working correctly in one system where CS5 and CC 2014 are both installed. However, in another similar system, where CS5 and CC 2014 are both installed, this is failing. There, always the CC 2014 version is being used, even when the user wants to use CS5. On inspection it is found that the issue is with registry entry of LocalServer32 subkey of the Illustrator.Application.CS5 automation object. There I see, the path of CC 2014 executable is stored, not that of CS5. The value is C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CC 2014 (32 Bit)\Support Files\Contents\Windows\Illustrator.exe /automation. Hence, the statement CreateObject("Illustrator.Application.CS5") is actually starting the CC 2014 Illustrator version.
Does anyone know how this could have happened? Is this some installation behavior of CS5 or CC 2014, that can be controlled? In this machine CC 2014 was installed after CS5. Does CC 2014 change the registry settings of CS5, if it was installed? That seems very unlikely, as then how can one use both CS5 and CC 2014 in a system through scripts? It is possible that this is a one-off case where the registry entries have been "accidentally" changed. However, I would like to be sure.
I can re-install CS5 in this system where the issue is noted and probably the problem will go away. However, the scripts may be used in many different installations and I cannot possibly ask users to reinstall Illustrator everywhere. Moreover, this problem can occur sometimes in the future too.
Any suggestion regarding the cause and a possible full-proof solution will be highly appreciated.

are you referring to the audio meters panel? im on windows, and i can right click the meters panel and get options for "dynamic peaks". there are audio effects, from the effects panel if thats what you are looking for? i have one named "Dynamics" as well as several compressors.

Hi I have trouble in using alternative characters from the glyphs panel in illustrator CS5.

I have recently installed the CS5 version of Adobe Creative Suite I have purchased long ago.
I have trouble using the alternative characters from the glyphs panel. The problem doesn't happen with a specific font but a few.
There are fonts that work fine and fonts that do not (either true or open type fonts)
I can see the characters alternatives in the glyphs panel but when clicking only the normal characters appear.
I have also tried to re-install the fonts but didn't fix the problem.
Reading from previous posts that other users had same problem they concluded that there has been a problem / bug with the CS5 version glyphs that needed to be fixed
Is this the case? What shall I do?

I'm having issues with accessing font character sets & glyphs in ID cs5.5.
I have all my fonts in fontbook and can see the full font character sets displayed but
when I go to my glyph panel to access any additional character or glyphs sets there
is nothing displayed. Any idea where I'm going wrong?

You potentially have a "bad" font. Check your fonts and remove the offender.

Mega glitch on 4k screen - cs5 osx10.9.4 latest 2014 macbook pro.

I am thinking of upgrading to a 4k monitor, but on trying on out on a friends mac I have noticed a really aweful rendering glitch on cs5. I have had no luck searching anywhere for a solution to this problem, I believe it's a video card error, as the image renders with odd blocks of colours and random numbers. I won't be getting a 4k monitor / new macbook pro if this error is going to occur. It makes photoshop useless!
