Captivate 5.5 won't open .cptx projects I created in Captivate 6

I created several tutorials using Captivate 6, mostly demos. They looked fine in preview (using F8, F10 and F12), but when they were posted on the web (which is done through our IT department), two of the demo tutorials included images from one slide that bled into another slide. This occurs on several different slides, scattered throughout the project. This definitely did not happen in the previews.
After reading some comments on the Captivate discussion board, I decided to go back to using Captivate 5.5. So I uninstalled 6 and reinstalled 5.5. But now when I try to open any of the tutorials I created in 6, I get an error message (Captivate could not open the file xxx.cptx. Ensure that: - The file is not already open, - The file is not damaged - The hard disk has sufficient space - The system has suffcient resources). The file was not open, the file is not damaged (I worked with it in version 6 yesterday), and both the disk and system have sufficient space.
How can I get the files I created in 6 to open in 5.5?

Uninstalling the app would not have been necessary. You can quite happily have more than one version of Captivate on the same PC.  (I have every version from 3 through to 6 currently running on my 64bit DELL laptop).
Going back to your original question though:  You mention that the files were uploaded to your web server by your IT department.  Did you check with them whether they uploaded just the SWF files, or whether they uploaded the HTM and JS files as well that Captivate publishes?  This may be significant, because those HTM and JS files are critical for the proper display of Captivate content, but I've seen other cases where the web dudes ditch them and just set up the SWF file on its own, with results similar to what you're experiencing.

  • Premiere 6.5 won't open a project it created.

When trying to open a Premiere 6.5 project, I get the error message "File was created with newer version of Premiere" and it will not open my project.  I have other projects with the same extension, created with 6.5, located on the same external HD that it will open.  I created this project on this computer and have worked on it for about 3 days; now last night, it gives me this message.  I also have Premiere Pro 1.0 and it won't open it either.
    Any ideas?  Thanks in advance.

    Some thoughts:
1.) Find someone with an even newer version of PrPro, say 2.0, and see if they can open the project.
2.) Try running your .PROJ file through XML Wrench, to see if there are some problems with the XML header info. Note: you'll have to drag this file, or use the All Files drop-down, as XML Wrench will not recognize it, due to the file extension.
If you are not in a hurry, as I am leaving town soon, I'll be glad to try to open the Project in PrPro 2.0 and see if it works for me. Obviously, all media will appear as offline, but if I can open it, that would indicate that the Project is intact, though would possibly not help you, as I could not turn around and do a Save_As for Pr 6.5. I've opened many Pr 6.5 files in PrPro, and they have worked almost 100%. This has been both PC and also Mac files.
3.) Do not know when Adobe added the Import Project feature in Pr. If Pr 6.5 allows this, create a new Project with the correct Presets. Choose Import Project and navigate to your PROJ file. This has saved the bacon in many instances. Just do not know when this was added.
4.) Check for AutoSave files in your Scratch Disks setup for this Project and see if they work better.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • I have a 27 inch iMac with maverick os.  my current version of iMovie (10.0.6) will not open older projects i created in iMovie 9.0.9.  I can find the projects and they have a ".rcproject" file extension

I have a 27 inch iMac with maverick os.  my current version of iMovie (10.0.6) will not open older projects i created in iMovie 9.0.9.  I can find the projects and they have a ".rcproject" file extension

Thank you GeeD. I'm still stymied.
I have moved the Event and Project Folders to the "top-layer of the drive" as the instructions state, right alongside the System Folder, Users Folder and Applications Folders.
When I open iMovie 10.0.8, the Events and Projects Folders are empty:
When I select File/Update Projects and Events, I get an alert box that says iMovie couldn't find any:
Not knowing exactly what is meant by the "top layer" in the instructions, I moved the Events and Project folders back inside the "Movies" folder where I found them (but then not where I would call the "top" layer, but rather "iMac/Users/Home/Movies/iMovieProjects". Then I tried to "Update Projects and Events" and received the same alert: "iMovie could not find any projects or events to update."
    Then I tried to update iMovie 9.0 (iMovie '11 version 9.0 (1073)) to version 9.0.9 .
[As an aside, the nomenclature of iMovie drives me nuts. The latest version is 10.0.8, which us newer than iMovie '11.]
Back to the update of version 9.0 to 9.0.9.
Presumably because I have version 10.0.8 installed, I got this alert box:
So, I cannot update version 9.0
and I cannot "Update" the Events and Projects created in version 9.0.

  • IPhoto won't open. Modified and created dates say 12/31/69

iPhoto won't open. Modified and created dates say 12/31/69.  Help! OS is Tiger. Older G4 Powerbook.

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and try to create a new, test library.  Can you?  If you can then your current library is damaged and needs to be repaired.
Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download IPhoto Library Manager 4 for OS XC 10.6.8 and iPhoto  8.1.2 and later  or iPhoto Library Manager 3 (for OS X 10.5.8 and iPhoto 7.1.5 and earlier) and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu (iPLM 3) or Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu (iPLM 4) option.
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Captivate 7 file won't open

I recently suffered a crash in captivate. Now the cptx file I was working on won't open.
I've read about using dcashe utility but our ICT dept won't allow me to download and install it.
Is there any other way to fix the file?

    Good morning,
Do you have "Generate Project Backup" selected in the General Settings in Preferences?
My experience is that if you do not have Generate Project Backup selected or download the dcache utility there really is not much that can be done to try and recover it.
Perhaps the more experienced Captivate folks can weigh in on this too.

  • Imovie won't open any projects after upgrading to yosemite

Can anyone help? I upgraded to yosemite and imovie 10.0.6 and now imovie won't open. IPhoto and Garageband open just fine. After clicking Imovie, it appears in the menu bar but all options from the drop down menus are grayed out. I cannot open any projects and there is no imovie window opening. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the program twice with the same result. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Apple introduced a new document architecture with Pages v5, that is not backwards compatible with Pages '09. With Pages v5.5.2 (Yosemite) installed, a simple double-click on a Pages '09 document will default open it in Pages v5. Once you save, or Pages autosaves this document, it is no longer directly compatible with Pages '09, without first exporting it to Pages '09 format. Pages v5 documents do not contain index.xml files, and Pages '09 documents do.

  • Mac won't open Premiere Project CC files created from PC

    Hi,
I am helping a friend edit a series of short videos.  He is on a Mac with the latest OS using Premiere Pro CC.  I am on a PC with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit also using Premiere Pro CC.  I did the rough cut for the first video, copied the folder (all clips and Premiere project files) to a USB key and handed it to him.  We thought that Premiere on the Mac would open, the project would link to the clips in the same folder and he could start the final cut.  Instead, Premiere on the Mac says that the Premiere Pro files appear to be damanged and won't open.
We will test using Adobe Cloud next time we meet but it takes a while for the files/clips to upload and download so we're not sure that's going to be a good workaround.
Any suggestions on how my friend and I can work together, him on Mac, me on PC, sharing clips and Premiere project files?  Any help would be appreciated as I need to continue with my portion of the work.
    Many thanks,
    France

    Hi Jim,
If I copy the relevant files to, say, a thumb drive, will Premiere be able to relink all of the clips when everything is copied over to the Mac?  What we'd like to do:
    1. I download the clips from the camera to a folder on my PC
    2. Import the clips into a Premiere project
    3. Do the rough cut.
    4. Save the project file and any additional files in the same directory as the clips.
    5. Copy entire directory to thumb drive and give to my friend.
If he loads the folder onto his Mac (keeping the same directory structure), is Premiere going to relink the clips to the project?  I thought that's what Project Manager assists with.  Some of the discussion threads talked about using a "Relink" or "Link" command but I couldn't find it in Premiere CC's menus.
    Thanks,
    France

  • FCP won't open certain projects

When I attempt to open certain projects FCP won't open. It starts up then before it opens it shuts down. I'm able to open and work in other projects and sequences.
When I was able to open and work on this particular sequence it seems to shut down when I edited, moved or rendered a still image (jpeg and pdf). I'm wondering if these are corrupt and if so how do I "uncorrupt" them.
I've already trashed preferences a number of times.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    b

Well thank you all for your help - but as many of you guessed, it was a PEBKAC issue - namely me!
I was so sure that the versions of FCP were the same, I neglected to look at the 2 relevant "about" pages. Although both FCP's came from the same disk, the one on the lap-top had up-graded itself. Once I upgraded the desk-top to match, everything was rosy.
    Once again, many thanks.
    I retire, red-faced!

  • ST won't open old projects

For some reason, when I go to open a previously saved project, Sound Track first says the file is not in the location it once was, which it is, and then when I click to find the file, then locate the file, then select "open" the open window comes back and back and back and back, I click "open" "open" and "open" and it never opens the project.
Even when I go to file, open and then choose the file it says, "Can't find file" "the file was not found in the expected location, and then it gives an erroneous location that is off a bit
    it should say /volumes/G-DRIVE/Movies/Sound Track
But instead wants to locate the file at /volumes/G-DRIVE/Movies/Projects/Body by Mike
The folder "Projects" is where I keep my FCE files, "Body By Mike" is a FCE movie I made and used this sountrack called "Body By Mike"
So somehow ST thinks the file is not the file.
    Any ideas?
Even when I simply click on the stmp file in the finder ST says the file could not be found, I choose "cancel" and then it says, "The document "Body by Mike.stmp" could not be opened.

This issue is not that Word won't open it. The issue is when Firefox goes to down load it it treats it as a binary file and does not know what to do with it. I would upload an image but I keep getting an error message for a tiff file and a pdf

  • Have Software Performance issues & now it simply won't open any project!! Help!

    Hi,
    I have following issues
    1.  I am working on Premiere Pro CS5 and when it comes to minor modification of images/clips, I just use Photoshop or After Effects to carry out the modifications, and then when revert back to premiere, the software hangs up for like 3-5 mins!!, This I have notice, even if I simply go to desktop and come back to premiere, it hangs (meaning NOT RESPONDING!)
    2. I call Adobe customer support (case id:183193833 status:Open - Pending Adobe Response), I go through all the instruction they gave, then finally made me uninstall and reinstall Premiere Pro... I now get the following error when open any project file
pop-up window "Premiere Pro Debug Event" Says Premiere Pro has encountered an error. [..\..\Src\QTTrack_Video.cpp-735]. then a button "Continue". which when I click, next popup window "Adobe Premiere Pro CS5" Says Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 has stopped working. Windows can check online for a solution to the problem. button 1:Check online for a solution and close the program button2: Close the program.

  • Premiere CS6 won't open my project, gives error message.

Premiere CS6 is saying "This project contained a sequence that could not be opened.  No sequence preview preset file or codec could be associated with this sequence type."  The project is all .SWF files and it was working just fine.  It all of a sudden started this.  How do I fix this?

Here is the solution. It appears this a Creative Cloud Issue. Very simple fix:
Solution 1: Deactivate, and then reactivate Adobe Premiere Pro
Launch Adobe Premiere Pro by clicking the application icon. Do not attempt to load a project file.
Choose New Project, then create a project. The settings you choose in this step are not important. Launch Adobe Premiere Pro so that the Help menu is available.
Choose Help > Deactivate. Then on the Deactivate, screen click the Deactivate button.
Launch Adobe Premiere Pro as you did in Step 1.
On the Sign In Required screen, click the Sign in button.
If prompted, sign in with your Adobe ID. The full list of sequence presets is reinitialized.
Open the project the generated the error to ensure that it opens correctly. If you are still unable to open your project, contact Adobe Technical Support.
    To the top
Solution 2: Re-create the Adobe Premiere Pro preferences and plug-in cache
Get ready to press the Alt (Option) + Shift keys simultaneously.
Launch Adobe Premiere Pro by clicking the application icon, and immediately press and hold the Alt (Option) + Shift keys.
Continue to hold the Alt (Option) + Shift keys down until you see the Welcome Screen. Note: If the preferences have been reset successfully, the Recent Projects area of the welcome screen will be blank.

  • Logic Pro 8 won't open a project??

    Hey Guys,
I have recently been working on a track on logic pro 8 when for no reason, that I can think of, everything froze and I couldn't click anything, or do anything, i couldn't even force quit, it just had the swirly circle thing. Luckily I had just saved my project. After resetting my computer, for some reason when I try to open that project I was working on it says, "Could not open project" and underneath it says "no other information could be given". When I open any other project or start a new one, it works fine. I am very confused and frustrated because I have spent a huge amount of time on this track. If anyone has any ideas or any advise I would greatly appreciative.
    Many thanks,
    Nick

No idea, too little information to guess.
Just recover what you can - if you'd recorded audio files, they should be on your disk, so just reimport them if you have a song version without them...

  • Ask your question.stalled 10.5 and update on my G4 PB and now Itunes won't open due to library created by nwer version, How do I get the old version back ? thankfully I don't have anything in it, having deleted everything for room for the new install.

I just installed 10.5 and .8 update, from 10.4xx, Original 10.5 Archived and installed,   Now itunes won't, can't open due to "library created by a newer version error message,
How do I fix this ? uninstall ??? reinstall ?
I originally didn't have enough free space to intall the new OS so deleted everything/songs and some podcasts in itunes, backed up on another ipod.that hasn'r been updated so not missing anything, but now can't access\ another new(old) ipod and iphone (and not anytthing now) that wouldn't work on the old OS. due to not having the required itunes upgrade and not upgradeable on 10.4xx
    Thanks in advance.

After reinstalling itunes like PowerBloodRespect said, go into itunes on your account and connect your ipod. On the ipod summary tab, uncheck the box to launch itunes when the ipod is connected.
You also might want to go into itunes preferences on both accounts.
On the Device tab, put a checkmark in the box to prevent ipods from syncing automatically.

  • Opening a project originally created in Pre2 issues

    Hello,
I had started a project in Elements 2 about 6 months ago.    Now, I'm using Elements 9, to opened this project.   When I open this project in Elements 9, what happens is that every image, sound and video appears correctly with all transitions and effects in perfect sequence.  But, nothing (none of the images, sounds and videos) that are in the timeline are showing up in the "organize" pane, or any other pane/window that I can find.
In Elements 2, I had all of my sounds, images, videos nicely organized in folders with appropriate titles.  Where, in Elements 9 can I find all these images, sounds and videos that show up on the timelines but no where else?
    thanks everyone.

I have been using PE3 for some years but thinking about upgrading to PE9.  I have a number of projects I created in PE3.  If it is unwise to open them in PE9 then then does that mean they are no longer usable.  Any way to handle this?
Also, what about mp4 files. I created a project with 2 video clips of mp4, about 20 minutes total video.  Started burning to DVD but some 6 hours later is was only at about 25%.  I finally cancelled the DVD.  It that normal to take that long.  My other projects using avi or other file types seem to burn much faster.
    Thanks for any input.
