Captivate to iPad

I would like to be able to run a test created in Adobe Captivate on an iPad.  Is this possible?  Using the packager for iPhone perhaps?

Until Adobe provides a solution / example on precisely how to publish a Captivate 5 project to iPhone/iPad using the "Packager for iPhone" that includes instructions on how to get .m4v (mpeg-4) video files to play with the iPhone / iPad's native video player... without having to leave your app I have no other solution except to try doing it with Unity (http://unity3d.com/) or by hand coding everything yourself using Apple's Xcode development software.
Unity can publish to the iPhone and iPad and although it is primarily used to develop games, it can also be used for educational games and regular computer based training (cbt).  If you are familiar with Flash, Unity has a series of tutorials on how to transfer your skills to Unity.  Unity does have a way to play .m4v (mpeg-4) videos (which are the native format for iPhone / iPad) and it basically loads up Apple's video player while dimming your app in the background.  Once the video finishes playing in Apple's native video player you are automatically brought back to your Unity app. The point being that your main app doesn't have to close in order to launch a video playing.
Computer training / software training apps for the iPhone / iPad are beginning to show up in the Apple app store now so it is a good time to start seriously considering mobile learning options.
Apple has released it's ban on using Flash as a development tool to create iPhone / iPad apps.
http://www.laadug.org/breaking-news-apple-reverses-ban-on-flash-based-iphone-apps/
I believe that Adobe will now step up to the plate now and deliver on it's promise now that the ban has been lifted.  And yes, I know that there are already apps on the Apple app store that have been created with Flash, but I'm referring to training related apps here, not games.... and specifically apps that can play numerous video clips.

  • Compatibility captivate and IPad, help

I need to know with certainty if adobe captivate is compatible with IPad. I have a problem with Storyline who registers in the librairy the course, the course his accessible even the transfer of the course is ended. It is a big problem for my customer. If I change software I need to be sure of this element.

I don't think it would be wise to make too many promises about functionality on iPads at present.  While HTML5 output is certainly improving with each new release and update of Captivate, it's still got its fair share of issues and HTML5 problems would now account for the greatest number of issues logged on this forum.
The current HTML5 output is not strictly speaking "fluid" if what you are referring to is true responsive design.  It can resize to fit the available width of the device screen.  But it is not using a fluid grid layout such as you might find in pure HTML5 websites that use Foundation API or Bootstrap API.
So be careful what you promise your client in this area.

  • Captivate for ipad apps

Was wondering if anyone (is it possible) to create educational content and then use them in an ipad application to be submitted to the app store??
Right now I'm using dreamweaver and phonegap build and was wondering if anyone has created their content for an ipad app on captivate and then used it in an app...???  thanks!

    Hi
I'm sorry to have to tell you that the PhoneGap interface has changed since that video was made: you can no longer simply upload files, but instead have to work through a github account.
I tried to do this, but failed: the Github interface and workflows were completely incomprehensible to me.
So, back to square 1: Could you tell us how to convert a Captivate file to an iPad app?
    Cheers
    Johan

  • HTML5 Captivate 6 iPad/Browser slow to load

    Hi all!
I've got an issue with a Captivate 6 file. I've got about 15 slides, just backgrounds, a few images, and a few buttons (and one of Rod's trial version widgets for drag and drop interactions). I've uploaded it to my webspace to test, but the load times are abominable! even just between slides it's horrible - taking at least 30 seconds to a minute. I thought at first it was the fact that my images were large, but my professor suggested it is because of all of the javascript files that are loading (at least two of which I don't need - I don't have a TOC or the playbar in my presentation). I've tried removing two of the six js files that run but that killed the project all together. Is anyone else running into the same issue? It's the same when I test it on my iPad and both my prof and classmate were having the same issue. Any input would be great! thanks!
    Becky

    Hi Rod!
Thanks for the heads up, it's good to know. I'd figured something was up when the slide wasn't working, but with my slowness issue compounding the problem I wasn't going to start there    I'm trying to use HTML5 since that's what the professor wants us to use. Hopefully I can integrate some kind of drag and drop solution within Captivate because all of my quizzing slides are drag and drop! but for now I'm just trying to fix my slow load times. I'm also trying to see if it could be my web server just to rule it out.

  • How can I use Captivate installed in my PC to record an iPad

Is it even possible? I mean does Captivate has this ability?
    Many thanks!

    Hi there
Captivate simply records what appears on your computer screen. So the trick is getting the iPad to display on your PC screen. There is an applicaton called Reflector that should allow this.

  • Captivate 5.5 output to iPad

I am using Captivate 5.5 and have created an eLearning module. I would like to know if there is an easy way to get the output file to play on an iPad. I have looked at the videos explaining how to get a developer account with Apple and convert the .xml file using code and then signing it and getting it into the iTunes store however, that seems very tedious and I am looking for a quick way to do this!
I do have a second laptop which has the trial version of Captivate 6 on it. I am wondering if there are step by step instructions on preparing the output file as iPad ready? It is my understanding that if the file is outputted as HTML5 then it should play on an iPad? Is this correct? Are there additional steps? Anyone who may be able to assist with finding these instructions please post them here, thanks!

HTML 5 output is new to Captivate 6 and it isn't perfect (yet). This is partly because HTML 5 is not yet a perfect replacement for Flash.
    >It is my understanding that if the file is outputted as HTML5 then it should play on an iPad?
Yes, that should be the case with Captivate 6.
You really need to experiment with your particular content, some functions do not work but the HTML 5 tracker (Project/HTML 5 tracker) will tell you what will work/not work.

  • Does Captivate requires Tin Can to enable tracking and viewing in iPad?

    Hi Guys,
I'm using Moodle 2.6 then upload Presenter SCORMs.
I need to know if Captivate SCORM supports tracking in iPad.
I'm an Articulate user. Articulate requires Tin Can to enable tracking and viewing in iPad.
    Does Captivate requires too?
We need your advise on this.
    Please help.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Jorma,
Thank you for the fast reply and your attention . I really appreciate it.
That's what we are trying to do now. I hope SCORM will work for iPad specially on tracking activity like graded quizzes and course viewing completions.
I'll update you with the developments. It's a fact that eLearning now a days is evolving to advance learning environment.
Again thank you for your time.

  • Captivate 7 | HTML course loading issues on iPad

    Hi,
I have created a course in Captivate 7 and published it to HTML 5 version. The published course was uploaded on a server and launched the course on ipad, but noticed that the audio loading delayed. Kindly let me know if there are any solutions to increase the performance of the course so that audio loading is good.
Below is the link where the course is uploaded.

    Suresh,
Could you please clarify what you mean by your statement? : "The request to audio download happens after content download..."
Are you talking about the content for an individual SLIDE is downloaded before the audio clip for that slide (in slide-based audio)? Or do you mean that the content for the entire module is downloaded before the audio for a slide is downloaded?
Also, if you're saying the slide content is downloaded before the audio for that particular slide, then what exactly is the benefit of having preloaders for the project?  Are you saying that with HTML5 content project preloaders are not really much use because content is downloaded slide by slide anyway?

  • IPad iBook - Frame flicker playing widget created from captivate 8 export

    Hey all
I've used custom widgets in iBooks author with a high level of success.
However, I've run into a specific problem that only seems to affect iPad 3s and 4s running iOS version 7.1 and 8.1.2.
I've published html5 only in Captivate 8.0 on a PC. This produces a bunch of HTML, CSS, JS files and folders. I turned this into a widget like all the others that have worked in the past. Then I imported into iBooks Author but when opening on the iPad 4 (iOS 7.1 and 8.1.2), each change in frames produces a momentary flicker.
The problem does not happen when testing on the iPad 3 on any of the above iOSs so far.
    Any ideas?

  • Captivate narration not coming through on iPad

    Hello,
I created a Captivate project in Captivate 7.0.  My project includes a music introduction (MP3 file) on the first slide and narration on the subsequent slides.  On my desktop, the project and sound (music and narration) runs properly.  However, on my iPad, neither my music introduction on the first slide nor my narration on subsequent slides comes in. I confirmed I do not have "mute" on and that my volume is up.
    Do you have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Sarah

    Hi Sarah
Are you running on iOS 7 ? if not can you share the project with me for investigation . You can send it through dropbox / yousend it to my email - [email protected]

  • Capture iPad app with captivate 6 or 7?

    Hello,
I am still using captivate 5 and I think it requires additional software to record  from mobile devices.
Does anyone know if it is possible to record an iPad app when using either Captivate 6 or 7?
    thanks a bunch

    Hi there
I'll have to leave it for someone that has actually used it to answer definitively. But from what I see, the PC simply presents what Reflector sends. I don't believe you are able to control the iPad from the PC. Because of that, I might expect that Captivate would have no way of sensing when something was tapped or whatever. Therefore it wouldn't know when to take a screen capture. Assuming, of course, that you are recording in Slide by Slide mode. Certainly if you were making a Video Demo, it would record everything.

  • Captivate 6 HTML 5 won't publish on iPhone, iPad, and Android

I am having a problem with captivate 6 HTML publishing  on iPhone, iPad, and Android.
We are using an external vendor to host our content, using SCORM for tracking. Our courses have been working for LMS output and now we wanted to also publish them for HTML5 to work on mobile devices/iPads.
When trying to view the output on both an iPhone with iOS 6 and an Android with 4.0.3, I get error messages about the course using flash, which of course the device does not support. I have published the course files in HTML 5 only and enabled e-learning output. The course also does not work on a local site (independent of the LMS).
I'm not sure what I could be doing wrong in the publishing process. The only thing that I am able to tell is that I don't see an HTML5 file when I publish - only a regular html file. I have attached a screenshot of the directory I get after publishing.
    Any help is appreciated.

When it launches on the iphone, it looks as if it is zoomed in to one region of the screen.  In other words, you can't see the entire course within the browser window on the screen. You have to pan to move to different areas of the screen.  We tried publishing with scalable HTML checked, but that had no effect on the size.

  • Captivate 7 - Bookmarking issues with Cornerstone LMS on IPAD

    Hello,
I am looking for some assistance with Captivate 7 (currently using version 7.0.0.118) with the Cornerstone LMS and bookmarking when using an IPAD.  We have no issues with content launching, bookmarking, and sending completions on Windows based opeating systems, but on IPAD's, with the latest version of the IPAD OS and Safari, we have no issues with launching the content and it will send back a completion, but the content will not bookmark.
Cornerstone is stating that the Safari browser on the iPad is not properly implementing the onbeforeunload trigger, which is primarily used in courses to force a save of the course data. This event is not triggered within the iPad version of Safari, preventing courses from saving themselves when the course is closed.  We currently have our customers closing the web browser in order to exit the course on the IPAD.  We are not experiencing this issue with the HTML5 courses that were exported with Captivate 6.
    Thank you,
    Karl

    Clare,
If you want a continuous movie (since it is simply a demo) you can use the HD Video Demo. But editing and synchronizing will be much more a pain.
Captivate's power is just in the creation of those static slides, but I would never record narration at the same time. I create the VO after having created the simulation, that is much easier just because the slides are static. I have been choosing Captivate just for that reason, but of course it is up to you. Want to have just demo: use HD Video Demo or choose Camtasia. But you'll never have the interactivity power that has Captivate. For trainees and students, interactive simulations are much more engaging, but that is your choice. And even a 200 slides movie has only 6000 frames, and will have a much smaller filesize than a video that explains the same.

  • Captivate 7 web object not scrolling properly iPad multiscreen.html

I have a Captivate 7 project published as both SWF and HTML5. The project is to be deployed via an LMS using multiscreen.html.
The issue that I have is that I have a web object that requires scrolling but when I view multiscreen.html on my iPad I am required to scroll horizontally with my finger to achieve vertical scrolling of my web object, any attempt to scroll vertically just causes the web bouce effect in Safari. If I view the project via index.html on my iPad, scrolling works as expected with vertical scrolling behaving properly and no web bounce.
It seems as though multiscreen.html is getting the orientation of the device confused but that's just a guess. Has anyone else encountered this and if so, do they have a workaround that they can share please?
    Many thanks.

I've found that updating the file called 'Widget_40080.htm' with the highlighted section in the following image fixes the scrolling issue on iPad.

  • Captivate 7 Project Crashing iPad Safari

I have a particular slide in my HTML5-published Captivate 7 project that repeatedly crashes my 2nd generation iPad's browser (Safari).
The slide contains 18 png images (total size <3mb), nine text entry boxes and 9 click boxes. Shuffling some of the content along the timeline to stagger the amount that loads simultaneously helps the slide to load without crashing but as soon as I tap one of the hotspots the browser crashes again.
It seems like a memory issue on the iPad and I was wondering whether anyone else had encountered, and overcome a similar issue and how they did it?
This is a major concern for me as these are basic things that I am trying to achieve and it seems as though I'm spending more time trouble shooting my content than actually developing it at the moment.
    Thanks.

I've been carrying out further tests based on my post above and have a few more details.
The items that seem to be causing the problems are nine individual groups, each containing an image, an image button, a text caption and three smart shapes. None of the groups are set to be visible on output and are shown using an advanced action (show) that is attached to one of nine click boxes on the slide. Once a group has been shown it can be hidden again by clicking the image button within the group, again using an advanced action (hide).
To test that this was the cause of the issue I first removed all of the hidden groups from the page and published the project. Safari on my iPad didn't crash when there were no hidden groups.
Next I gradually added one group at a time back in to my project, finding that it didn't crash with five hidden groups but it did with any more.
I hope that this is of some interest and that there might soon be a way to get around this. Personally I think that the addition of a popup slidelet that is native to captivate might be the way forward.
Although the post I'm linking to here started off discussing rollover slidelets there is some discussion relating to pop ups towards the end: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4663740#4663740
