Capture time is not saved into JPG file! (LR 2.0)

Hi,
I have this JPG file with no EXIF data whatsoever but I know it's capture time so I went to Metadata » Edit Capture Time and changed the capture time. Now, on Lightroom in the Library module, I can see the capture time there and then I save the metadata with Metadata » Save Metadata to File. However, when I check the file on Windows Explorer, the capture time (or date taken as named by Windows) is not specified at all.
Why isn't the "Save Metadata do File" working correctly?

@William Porter
I don't have that box checked but it shouldn't matter because I'm not talking about exporting new files to update the metadata. I'm talking about updating the files metadata within the files that are already added to the library.
@Richard Earney
That option was already checked from the beginning but it's not helping. That's exactly why I don't understand why this is not working.
Maybe a bug on LR 2.0 Final?

  • IPhoto will not import certain JPG files

I have just migrated to a 2012 Retina 15" MacBook Pro from a 13" MBP. I am using Mavericks 10.9.1 and iPhoto 9.5.1. The MBP is a 2.7gHz quad core with 16GB of memory and a 768GB SSD. I was trying to tidy up my hard disc and import some .jpg files from the output folder on my Capture One Session. iPhoto will not import certain jpg files but will import others. The message I get is as follows  The following file could not be imported.  The file is an unrecognised format. Then shows below for example /Users/xxxx/Pictures/Capture One Session/Output/L1000212.jpg.
I first tried creating a new library and importing to that with no success. I then rebuilt the database. I repaired permissions. I deleted the iPhoto.plist and its caches and restarted - no success. I then deleted iPhoto and reinstalled from App Store after deleting the plist and caches again. Still no luck. The .jpg files in question open perfectly in Photoshop CC and Preview. I tried altering them slightly and resaving but still they would not import. I reinstalled Mavericks - no improvement. If I reconvert the files from the original DNG's into TIFF files, then they will import to iPhoto
    Any ideas anyone?

I just recorded an action in Photoshop CC to assign ProPhoto colourspace save and close. Then copied all the problem jpegs into a temp file and ran the action. With this super fast machine, It only took a few minutes to convert 500+ files and they have now all imported perfectly. I have changed my JPEG recipe to convert DNG's from embedded to ProPhoto.
Thanks again. Colourspace would never have occurred to me.

  • Time Machine not saving all Users

    Hi,
I have just used Time Machine for the first time and noticed that it was saving "x" of around 142gb as its first save.
However, I noticed that when I go through the back up history, whilst it saved my wife's account/user files it hasn't saved mine. The icon of my "house" in the Places section doesn't highlight when you scroll over it with the mouse. It does in the "Now" window.. but page through the back up history and it's not saved. My files are also not found in the Users folder.
    Any help really appreciated.
    Mark

    Are you using File Vault?
That's the only reason TM won't save your home folder on each backup. It should, however, save the encrypted disk image when you log out.
If not, start with a Finder window showing your home folder, then go into Time Machine. It should appear that way.
And be sure you're not looking at the first (lowest) window in the "cascade" of the "Star Wars" background; that's the +Today (Now)+ window, representing what's currently on your system. Navigate to the actual backup (behind the Today window) or via the timeline on the right.

  • How do I create a photo in jpg or other photo format from a frame within iMovie11.  The suggestion I have found from earlier versions of iMovie does not create a jpg file that can be revealed in Finder. Help please.

How do I create a photo in jpg or other photo format from a frame in iMovie. The previous suggestions on here do not create a jpg file when you chose reveal in finder when using iMovie11 and OS X

First, get an app called MPEG Streamclip, which is free. (google MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5)
    Open MPEG Streamclip.
In iMovie, select the clip you need. Then, right-click/Reveal in Finder.
Drag this clip into MPEG Streamclip
In MPEG Streamclip, move the playhead to the frame you want.
In MPEG Streamclip, click FILE/EXPORT FRAME.
Choose JPEG, TIFF, or PNG and give it a name.
You can then drag this photo into iPhoto.
Here is a video I made that steps through this...

  • Aperture does not import Nikon JPG files when RAW and JPG

I own a Nikon D2x that I download files to a Sony 40GB portable HD. When I shoot in RAW + JPG only the RAW file is imported when I connect the Sony HD to my Mac and import to Aperture.
If I open the Sony disk Icon on the Desktop, I can see both the RAW and the JPG. In fact I can finder copy both files to the Desktop with no problem.
Even when I connect the camera itself, the jpg files are not imported.
This makes me think I should just shoot in RAW and save the space on the memory card.
Why does Aperture not import the JPG files?

it does import them ... but only displays the RAW file ... if you drill down into the library package you will see them ...

  • Why is Photoshop Elements 8 not saving a psd file as a pdf now that I purchased Adobe Acrobat XI Pro?

Why is Adobe Elements 8 not saving a psd file as a pdf after I started using Adobe Acrobat XI Pro instead of my CS3 Pro? Both Adobe software is up to date and before I switched to Acrobat XI Pro, it worked fine. Help please...

You aren't talking to Adobe here. But still...Is it by any chance asking for a QUALIFYING product? If so, you purchased an UPGRADE and now need to give the serial number of the OLDER product (Acrobat 9 or X) which you must own to be able to use the upgrade. Simples.

    Try this possible workaround:
1.— Take your original file (before any edits) and duplicate it.
2.— Work on the duplicate (exact clone) only.  Do all your Photoshop edits to your heart's content.  (Optional step: save the file, but don't close it so you don't compress the JPEG and deteriorate its quality.)  Do a select all (Command+A on the Mac, Control+A on Windows) to select the entire pixel content of the duplicate, and COPY that.  Now you have your edited image on your clipboard.
3.— Open the original file, and do a select all on it, but don't copy that!  Instead, DELETE all the pixel content of the original.  Now you have a blank image with only the metadata of the original.
4.— Paste the contents of your clipboard (the pixels of the edited clone) into the blank original.  Save.
With any luck, you'll have the edited pixels with the metadata of the original.
It should work, but there are no guarantees.

  • .jpg files created on iphone 4S are not recognized as .jpg files when uploading them to American Heart Assoc. website?

.jpg files created on Iphone 4S are not recognized as .jpg files when uplaoding to American Heart Association fund raising webpage? .jpg's from Canon camera uploaded without any problems? The website automatically reduces the file size to <100kb.

I haven't contacted AHA about this issue. The .jpg files created on Canon SLR uploaded correctly, but the photo from iPhone which was emailed to my PC using MS IE. The .jpg was browsed to from my desktop and is submitted. It shows up in draft form then when uploading it fails saying it is not a .jpg file or .png file? I have had other issues in the past emailing iPhone pictures. They were not editable after being sent to a PC. I guess we can retake photos with a non-Apple camera.

  • Problem with data saving into text file

    Hi,
The problem I am facing wihile saving the data into text file is that everytime when I am slecting the path from front panel, the data which is being saved is appended with the previous data, i.e. not only in the new text file, the new set of data is saved but also, if there is any previuos run for the program, the corresponding data is also present in that text file.
However, when I change the same 'control'(file path) to 'constant' in the block diagram, and add the file path, there is no such problem. Basically, changing the "File path" from constant in the block diagram to control (so that it is displayed in the front panel) is causing the problem.
    Please help!
    Thanks

Your shift register on the For loop is not initialized. It will retain the value of the string from the last time it executed. Initialize that and it should solve your problem.

  • FCP 6.0.2 - Capture Successful - Clips not saved! Help!

    I'm running FCP 6.0.2 on OS X 10.4.11
I have a Sony HDR-FX1 camera and do most of my filming in SD DV.
I'm trying to capture footage on several tapes (about an hour per tape) using the Log and Capture method. The camera is plugged into my front firewire port. I've logged the tapes (as 1 hour clips) and have tried doing a batch capture several times.
    Here's the problem:
The clip is captured for the entire hour and I'm presented with the message that the capture was successful. I proceed to click "Finish" and my clip stills shows as "offline" in the final cut pro browser. Also, when I look in my FCP "Capture Scratch" folder, the respective project folder is completely empty.
In other words, FCP is not saving my captured clips for some reason.
I'm happy to answer any other questions you may have and am willing to try anything at this point!
Thanks in advance for your help.

Yeah - oddly enough, I don't run into this problem with shorter clips - just captured one that was 30 minutes long. But I really don't want to split these long clips up - it's easier to sync up the multiple angles when I'm dealing with clips that are all the same length.
You would think that if FCP encountered a problem while capturing these clips, it would give me some sort of warning - but no, it says successfully captured and then just doesn't save the darn clips! So frustrating to sit here for an hour watching it capture and have nothing to show for it. It's failed 8 times so far (that's 8 hours I'll never get back!)

  • IPhoto will not import some jpg files

I have been trying to import some photos into iPhoto. All the pictures that I have have been taken with a Canon 40D in a RAW format. The pictures were then imported into Adobe Lightroom where I made some modifications. Once all the necessary changes were made all the files were exported from Lightroom as jpg files. I am trying to import the jpg files into iPhoto and about 50 out of the 1250 pictures would not import as they were an unrecognizable format. I have checked to make sure all my software is up-to-date. I have tried importing those 50 pictures again with no success. As all the pictures have been created with the same exact process I am have no idea what is causing this issue. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. I have searched for this issue in the support pages and not found anything. If a support article is around that already deals with this issue if you could point me in that direction I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thank you,

When you say this problem is solved, I am not sure what you mean. This morning I divided two files of scanned holiday snaps using Photoshop Elements 6, basically copying and cropping an A4 into 4 photographs. The first file imported into iPhoto without a problem, but none of the second file would either as a group or individually, coming up with the "unsupported file type". All were the same .jpeg files. I tried fixing the permissions, but this did nothing. I noticed that 3 of the 32 said they were Photoshop JPEG's in the version information and tried saving them using preview and overwriting the originals, but this didn't work. The ones that said they were mere JPEG's still wouldn't import on their own. I know Apple and Adobe aren't great friends at the moment but this is something they should seriously sort out before they upset their loyal customers.
I see now that I will have to turn all my JPEG's into tiff's to get them to work, that's an exiting prospect, almost PC. Thanks A & A

  • Multiple Edits in Photoshop not saving into Lightroom?

In Lightroom 3 I was able to edit in Photoshop, save the file, then make another edit in photoshop and save it under a different name, and that file would also show up in Lightroom.
    For example;
in Lightroom I select "Image 1" and select edit in photoshop,
I edit this in photoshop and save.
    Lightroom shows "Image 1-edit"
I make another edit and select "Save As" and save it as "Image 1 Alternate".
"Image 1 Alternate" shows up in Lightroom next to "Image 1-edit"
This does not appear to be happening with Lightroom 4. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere?
    Thanks for your replies

    Medic1542 wrote:
Additional "save as" edits are saved into Lightroom 3. It does not "break the link".
I'm assuming here that you are using Photoshop CS5.x and the current version of Camera Raw? If so, this is as expected...LR4 is using a pipeline that will match up to ACR 7 when it's released.
As it is now, LR4 must actually do the processing prior tp sending it to Photoshop. LR4 also has to save the file on disk prior to sending it to Photoshop.
If you were using ACR 7 in CS6 then ACR would actually be doing the processing and the behavior of this way of opening in Photoshop does NOT have to save the file prior to sending it to Photoshop. When ACR does the opening, you can do a Save or a Save As and Lightroom will know about those saves. Pretty LR4 doesn't know where the Save As file goes to and that's why it isn't showing up.
The two basic behaviors; LR synced with ACR and LR not synced with ACR goes back to version 2 (I think). It's a limitation in LR when LR and ACR aren't in sync.

  • Why are my RAW images grainy on some devices after saving as JPG files?

I am new to the world of photography, so forgive me if my question is silly.
I just recently started shooting in RAW format.  After editing my photos and saving them as JPG files, I am running into a problem.  When I view the image files on my computer, my iPad, or my iPhone, they look great.  I can even zoom in super close, and the images still retain amazing quality.  However, when I set them as a desktop background, they are SUPER grainy.  Here is an example.  I just took a screen grab of each one on my computer.  Here is the first one, which is the file itself when opened in Microsoft Office 2010.
Here is the screen grab of the same exact same file when I set it as a background on my computer:
Is this an issue with processing/editing/whatever the technical term may be?  Or, is this a computer display issue?  I could almost understand if the images were different files, but they are the same file.  Can anyone help me out?   I have a friend who wants me to take some photos for her this weekend, and I'm scared to shoot in RAW format for this reason, although I do enjoy the control I have over my images in that format.  I'm also scared to see what my photos look like when printed.
    Thanks in advance!

It’s really impossible to make a judgment from screen grabs. But how are you making the desktop background; ideally you should be using the original to make a re-sized image at the native resolution of your monitor.

  • Edited RAW files not saved as .JPEG files

Before I updated to iPhoto8, when I edited my RAW files they were saved to JPEG files automatically. From the Help documentation, I believe that this should still be happening..... but it isn't.
Do I have a setting wrong? Anyone know?
    Thanks.

Check the entry "About nondestructive editing" in iPhoto Help. With iPhoto '08 you will not see the "save" progress bar unless the photo was previously edited in iPhoto 6. Here is a portion of the text:
Nondestructive editing allows you to try different adjustments and effects at will⎯there’s no danger that successive edits and saves will degrade your photo’s quality. You’re never more than one version away from your original photo. Instead of saving a new version over the previous one every time you edit a photo, iPhoto ’08 simply remembers all your changes as an edit list.
When you reopen your edited photo to view or do more work, iPhoto then reapplies those edits to the original version. You’ll see where you left off, so you can make incremental changes from there.
IMPORTANT: For photos imported to earlier versions of iPhoto and never edited, nondestructive editing will apply in iPhoto ’08.
However, for photos imported to earlier versions and edited either in iPhoto or in a separate application such as Photoshop, nondestructive editing does not apply.

  • Lightroom 3 - Capture Time Sort Not Working

Sync of multi camera wedding shots not working. Camera's clocks are in sync. Files in folder will not sort using capture time. Any ideas on fix?

What sort do you see when choosing "by capture time"? Do you see sorted by capture time within the individual cameras?
A common problem causing this is having the clocks synchronized between several cameras, but being off by days, months or even years on one of the cameras.
