CC Desktop is hosed

OS: Windows 7 Professional SP1 (32-bit)
Late last week CC was working well: PS installed paid and several additional apps installed for free trial.
Earlier this evening after restarting my system a pop-up appeared indicating an update was available for the CC Desktop. The installation attempt failed. When I attempted to open the Adobe Creative Cloud application from the Start menu I had two options: Quit or Install the upgrade. I chode the latter, which failed again.
Attempting to start any CC application resulted in a message box with Error 16 and an indication the application may beed to be uninstalled.
I then signed on to the Windows Administrator ID.  I was able to start the CC applications, but experienced the same behavior with the Adobe Creative Cloud application. I again attempted to install the update, which failed again.
Going back to my ID I was now able to start all the CC applications except Adobe Creative Cloud.
I then uninstalled Adobe Creative Cloud from the Windows Programs and Features page. After doing so I was unable to install any Adobe apps, including Adobe Creative Cloud, presumably because there was no application installed to handle the AAM: protocol specified in the links associated with the Download buttons.
I then restored the system from a Windows restore point created yesterday, before these problems started. After rebooting Adobe Creative Cloud was present in the Windows Start Menu, however the application would not start: there were no error messages and I did not observe even a brief application start in the Windows Task Manager Applications window.
Doing some Google searched, I found a post elsewhere in the Adobe forums which suggested renaming the foler OOBE to OOBE_old. I did this and repeated the above with no discernable change in behavior.
I then again attempted to download the Adobe Creative Cloud application. This tome there were several pop-up boxes requesting autorization to download the code. After accepting all of these there was no sign of any further activity, including creation of any additional processes in the Windows Task Manager window. A new OOBE folder was not created.
Now when I start Photoshop I receive a warning the the Application Manager is not present to validate that the license is active.
What next, folks?

Hi,
I sent you a private message with my email id. Please respond to it with the log files attached.

Anirudh

Looks like I have company. On more install attempts than I want to admit I got both conditions. Finaly figured out they happened while using Netscape (during Web Start and Help)I would get to the CDE and start Help Books and up jumps my friend Net... as soon as that happened my desktop was hosed. Not real helpful. Am running an install that has not had Net... activated and no problems. I really would like to know how to rip that turkey out of there so I can use something that works, I don't care who made either. As long as it works. Come on Sun give us some answers, you gotta know that if we are running this on an Intel box we know something about hardware and that evil empire O/S. If you lose us at the get-go you may not get use back. Know what I mean? Thanks in advance for any help. Steve

    My full steps were:
    mkdir -p /boot/efi/EFI/refind/
    cp /usr/lib/refind/refind_x64.efi /boot/efi/EFI/refind/
    cp /usr/lib/refind/config/refind.conf /boot/efi/EFI/refind/
    cp -r /usr/share/refind/icons /boot/efi/EFI/refind/

    mkdir -p /boot/efi/EFI/tools/
    cp -r /usr/lib/refind/drivers_x64 /boot/efi/EFI/tools/
Edited refind_linux.conf only by adding partuuid and rootfstype.

  • USB disk access of every type is hosed - HELP!?

Newbie with the very latest "Don't Panic" running on a laptop.  I'm coming off a year with various bloateddistros, looking for something fast and stable.
I've got my internal drive up, networking, x, gnome and openoffice all working great.  Next step is to plug in my external 160gig drive with all my data on it.  This is a very standard USB2-to-EIDE drive, I've had no problems with it in any distro.  It's split between a 32gig FAT32 partition and a 119gig Ext3.
I followed the wiki on autofs.  Nothing.  Then played with HAL and the like.  Made my user a member of group "storage".  Still nothing.
I've seen mount problems before of course, so I tried adding gparted via pacman and running that from a root command line just to see what's physically out there.  Not good: gparted never finishes getting past the "Scanning all devices....." process with the blue bar bouncing back and forth.  When gparted first starts I can hear the external disk spin up and chug for a few seconds, but then nothing.
I tried a 1gig USB flash critter (probably Fat32), nothing there either.  I think something is fundamentally hosed in my USB disk support.  I do have a USB external trackball working though...so my ports are up.
    My daemons at present:
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng network netfs crond ntpd hal cups gdm alunnd)
    Heeeelp!  Neeeed my daaaata!
Wait, something else weird: if I turn on the external disk I see some CPU activity on my gnome panel monitor.  Nothing major, a few light spikes.  I've got a Celeron 1.6 but with the new 533 memory bus and 2gigs RAM.  Once I run gparted it goes bananas and then once I close gparted CPU activity is pegged hard at 100% - yet there's no listed process eating that.  Then when I turn off the external drive, CPU activity falls back to normal.
    WTF, over?
    Jim

Well before reading Veek's post I got further along.  Almost there I think.
I went and loaded XFCE4 plus extras, and logged in with a XFCE session.  I like having a backup desktop environment anyways in case Gnome gets squirrelly.
In XFCE Thunar shows the disks, but when I try and access 'em I get:
    Failed to mount "128G Volume".
    (exo-mount:4613): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
        Using the fallback 'C' locale.
You are not privileged to mount the volume "128G Volume".
What I can't figure out is, what permissions?  I'm added to groups "storage" and "disks"...any more needed?
    The output from fdisk -l:

  • My iMac G3 has developed an issue where I can no longer see any icons on the desktop or access the HD.

Imac G3 shows no icons on desktop including the hard drive icon Ican only open applications from the dock but then it crashes if I try to open files (for instance word documents) I can see the files are still on the hard drive and Preview will allow me to open some photos. I cannot access the Finder either and the only way to switch off the mac is to open system preferences or any other application which will then allow me to access the options to shut down or restart.
Does any one have any ideas or experience of this problem?
I've tried restoring the Hard Disk using the original installation disk (Starting up from the Disk and pressing c) but could not restore disk.

You have some sort of issue with the external drive, I would use a powered USB hub first if it's not self powered.
Next I would be looking at purchasing software to direct recover your files from the 1's and 0's of the bits themselves on the external drive as it appears your directory or something is hosed.
Software that comes to mind is DataRescue $99 which you can download and test first before buying, then send the recovered files to another blank external drive.
Once you've got your files recovered, then your all set to mess around and experiment.
Try to access the files with the program version that originally created them, I'm not all that up to speed on iMovie, but I do know there are issues with using older Apple software versions with newer version altered files.

  • My iMac (late 2010 model) desktop's hard drive is fried (was about 200GB). How much am I expecting to pay for a new one and retrieve my information?

My iMac (late 2010 model) desktop's hard drive is fried (was about 200GB). How much am I expecting to pay for a new one and retrieve my information?

As you can see Erin, trying to recover information from a hosed drive can be very expensive.
I would suggest first the OWC site as well. You can get a new drive of choice in size there.
I would also get the voyager  http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/VOYQHDB1.0T/
    and..
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Prosoft%20Engineering/DGDR3BUN/
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/TOOLKIT11/
Wth your lap top and these folllowing tools your are set to change out the drive, reload OS and then with
the voyager pop in the old iMac drive and with the Prosoft software, try to mount and recover the files. Data Rescue is very good at this " if " the drive is not totally mechanically hosed. Drive Genius is very good at a number of things too. Nothing replaces the old adage of Back Up Back up Back up.
The voyage I listed can become the new backup drive for you.. your choice of tools: Time Machine or by cloning via CarbonCopyCloner or by what I use SuperDuper! IF you want to be really kewl.. both. By that I mean cloning and Time Machine.
It will take you an hour to swap out the drive and spring clean the iMac.. there is a hundred how too,s on you tube.
Hope this helps. Remember if is always when a drive will fail..they all do. I tell the people I support that Harddrives are good for 15 min.. to when they don't work. They will all fail.
Apple Geniuses are very limited to what they can and will do as far as file recovery.
Your best bet is to try to do it your self first. There is lots of help out here and you are not the first.

  • Phone get hosed trying to update OS

    Tour 9630 - Sprint  version
3 times now I have attempted to update to 4.7.1 and 3 times the device got hosed. Luckily, I have the restore procedure down pat now. Each time it hangs at the JVM part and it says the device is no longer connected. Then you get the white screen of death with the 507 - No OS error. To restore, I delete vendor.xml and run loader.exe with the /nojvm switch.
Can anybody tell me what the deal is? I have the latest version of Desktop Manager. This seems like a rather nasty bug/defect.
In case anybody needs to know to help me, I run Win XP SP3 and BB Desktop Manager 5.0.1.18.  Phone version is 4.4.1.40 (platform 4.1.0.40). Branding version 1.0.101.242.  BB system software 4.7.0.
I just won't update my OS, I guess. Phone has been wiped clean and a fresh install done, then the upgrade was attempted, so no software is interfering.  This is obviously a BB issue on the software or hardware side. I have seen other posts about this issue, but no answers yet.
Again, just very disappointing that I can't trust my phone to update without losing everything. I backup and restore after re-installing the OS, but then I need to download everything again and its a major PITA. Would love some answers.
    OS v5.0.0.484

Ok. Do you remember what you were updating? Like Itunes or a security update. And did you let it complete and install? To install the update, it usually asks for your password and sometime asks you to restart. Here are some options to try.  http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203176

  • Palm Desktop Install Stalling

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, and am having trouble installing Palm Desktop 6.2.  It went most of the way at least once, but now hangs when I run it as Administrator.  When I don't run it as Admin, it goes partway and then crashes abruptly.  Just winks out.
True confessions time:  I probably hosed the registry entries pertaining to Palm after one unsuccessfiul attempt to uninstall.  Any suggestions?
I've taken a go at installing Desktop 4.?? under WinXP mode but haven't made great progress at it yet.  That would be a perfectly fine solution, since I really like the color-coding that went away in 6.  My big concern is to get a Desktop running again [went from XP to Win7/64 recently when I had to rebuild my machine.  Life was good until the magic smoke escaped the processor.]
    Thanks!
    Post relates to: Palm TX

I would use system restore to a point before you installed the 6.2. desktop. I would then put the Palm desktop version that came on your startup disk on the windows 7 64bit computer. Then you want to install the Aceeca 64bit driver that came out last month so you can cable sync on a windows 7 64bit computer. I have a TX and hotsync this way. The only caveat is when I install files, programs . I need to put them on the desktop and right click on them and choose install to palm from the drop down menu. They then install when you hotsync.

Right click/CTRL-click the mov file and tell it to play in Quicktime vs. iTunes. That's all you have to do.
In iTunes if you CTRL/right click on the file and tell it to show file , the finder will open to where iTunes has put the mov file and you can copy it to the desktop so you can see it there or to movies etc., in your home folder.

  • IE11 Shows :Program not responding, on Desktop, after IE File is closed out

Hi, I am looking for help with this odd problem and cannot find any other question like it.
My PC has Windows 7 64bit installed on HP pavilion g7 notebook. I use 32 bit browser I mostly go to in private as I have to erase all Temp internet files manually.(Different problem)
I always open IE , not in private first, and again before I close out to insure some needed      files are in temp internet files. I have done this for 3 years as this PC has a quirk and am
telling this just so you have all information. Still EI will close out, as below, no matter what!
After IE 11 update KB2962872 IE works well but very often after closing out IE file a message appears on my Desktop saying that the program is not responding....looks for solution.....then says to close out IE. But I had already closed it out???? The
message takes 1 to 3 seconds to appear on my Desktop. Makes no sense and I have tried many things. Tried a compatibility       trouble-shooter and when  I give the file for IE it said this program cannot be tested.
IE does not show up in Programs and Files , from my control panel?
    Event viewer shows Error:
    Faulty Application name: IEXPLORER.EXE, version:11.0.9600.17207,time stamp:0x53a20c50

Action center shows this problem and thus my performance is about 2 on 10.
Thank you very much for looking at my question.

    Hello Picpansnap & Rob,
I encountered a similar problem, as Picpansnap did "After IE 11 update KB2962872 IE works well but very often after closing out IE file a message appears on my Desktop saying that the program is not responding....looks for solution.....then
says to close out IE." This happens now every time I open IE.
I agree Rob that this is likely a 3rd party add-on problem. In my case I tried the consumer solutions 1st.  I myself did try all the recommended solutions and even ran the good old fixit tool. However I was not ever able to get to Tools>Internet
Options>Advanced as my browser would crash shortly after opening. This became very frustrating so being an IT professional myself, I of course came to technet to check the forums.  KB2962872 is a recent update at the time of this writing and as such
the consumer site may not quite be aware of the need for an advanced solution as of yet.  Picpansnap showed some advanced level understanding by sending an event viewer output, it was the similarities between his output and mine as well as your mention
of 3rd party add-on's that prompted me to remember another method to turn them off as I had tried Tools>Internet Options>Advanced unsuccessfully due to the quick crashing of newly opened IE page.
I remembered how to diagnose an individual IE add-on so I opened internet properties and from the program tab clicked the manage add-on button and proceeded to disable all IE add-on's and bring them up one by one to see which one was the culprit. In my case
it was the avast online security add-on that was the cause. With that add-on disabled Internet Explorer is now working fine. I have a subscription to avast internet security and am passing on this information to them as well as to http://answers.microsoft.com
I would like to wholeheartedly thank both of you for providing me with the clues to get my own IE working again. I had just performed a re-install of Windows 8 due to AMD's 14.4 driver hosing my USB, sound & DVD drive. I was able to get the sound &
DVD working again without the re-install but after spending hours in forums and trying solutions I was left with the re-install & update all the way back to Win 8.1 as my only option (recovery image was on external USB drive , of course). That was a battle
and I really do appreciate the posts here in technet where many problems with Microsoft programs are resolved 1st.  I usually am a reader only & this will be my 1st post, I hope this can help others with similar issues.
    Chuck ;)

  • Fluid layout suddenly hosed in DW - but renders fine in browser

Even though I'd seen some warnings about making changes to margains when using fluid layouts, I was trying to center an image in a div and changed the margain. Suddenly, the 'desktop' layout for the page wouldn't display correctly in the Design tab. I thought I'd hosed the entire page, but I tried viewing it in Firefox - and it works perfectly.
In the Design view, when showing the 'desktop' view, it only shows the header and first div as being within the fluid grid. I figured that meant I'd entered some errant character either in the CSS about that point or the source code. No joy in either location.
Also, I can visually edit the sizes of the divs (which all show as fluid in 'tablet' and 'mobile' sizes) in the two smaller sizes, but not in the 'desktop' view. Even the two divs that show as fluid cannot be resized in the desktop view - though they are selectable and show the sizing handles.
Is the feature so new that it's this buggy? Or am I missing something else?
Also - how much should boilerplate.css change? Should mods be made to this file?
I'm NOT an expert in DW, CSS or HTML, so I'd be perfectly willing to accept I've done something wrong.

It's called me being an idiot. I removed a bracket from the end of the tablet size mediaquery in my main stylesheet.

  • Firefox crashed, crashed on restart, rebooted, FF crashes on startup, reinstalled, asked me to reboot to finish, keeps asking me to reboot to finish even when trying to uninstall now, completely hosed... help

Firefox crashed this morning on startup. retried, but keeps crashing. Sent multiple submits using the FF crash tool. Tried rebooting, but same result. Tried reinstalling FF7, but when asked to reboot to finish installation, the installation never finishes. Now even when I try to uninstall FF, I get a message stating that I need to reboot to finish the installation. I am completely hosed with FF right now... cannot run app, cannot reinstall, cannot uninstall.

Hello zalloy, try to delete the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profiles.ini_file profiles.ini] file in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder Profile folder], to see if the problem is there, restart firefox and check if working.
otherwise go for a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling the new copy of Firefox, see: certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!
if you can not delete the Mozilla Firefox program folder, try to boot Windows in Safe mode (press F8 on the boot screen) to see if that allows to delete that folder.
    thank you

  • BB Desktop Manager can't quite connect

I can start DM and plug in my phone. It recognizes it as an 8330 and asks for the PIN. I enter the PIN and it successfully connects. The 3 tasks start. Read application config is successful, Read device system config is successful, but Read device service information starts and just sits there with the ball ping ponging back and forth.... for 30 min or more. I'm guessing it's hung.
Any idea how to kickstart this thing?
    John
P.S. my device may be hosed; it's keyboard isn't working... which is why i'm trying to download new OS to see if that fixes things. Also, running DM 501 in VMFusion box on macbook pro.

    Hello marsland,
What version of the Desktop Manager are you using? What desktop program are you synchronizing with (Outlook? Yahoo? etc)
Does the sync produce an error at all?
On what application does the sync hang? Calendar? Address Book? Memos? Tasks?
    Thanks!

  • Cannot setup hotsync in Desktop 4.1.4

The HotSync menu in Desktop 4.1.4 has stopped functioning. I cannot open the setup. I cannot customize it. It just is not there. I tried repairing the software using the downloaded program. It did nothing. I cannot hotsync my Tungsten E2. It worked fine a few days ago. Now it just disappeared from my system - and it will not reload.
    What do I do?

Most likely, it got hosed by a Micro$oft update.
Uninstall/reinstall Palm Desktop.  User files are designed to be ignored during the uninstall process, so they should reappear after the reinstall.
