CCX upgrade 7 to 8. PUT backup fails

Hi all,
I'm trying to do CCX upgrade from version 7 to 8. According to procedure I'm trying to make configuration backup using Pre-upgrade Tool (PUT). Problem is PUT fails to create backup. When I check created logfile I see that the reason is "java.lang.IllegalStateException: document manager is not initialized". In control center both servers (this is a HA system, and I'm running PUT on master) are IN_SERVICE. I don't think that there is any problem with document subsystem because I successfully use documents in scripts and they do work normally.
Any Ideas what I could do to convince PUT that all is fine?
Thank you!
Ervins

Hello Ervins, are you on UCCX 7.0(1)SR5?
Please check this defect opened for previous upgrades from 4.0 to 7.0:
CSCtd95184    DMT tool not able to see document manager started
Although it talks about DMT upgrade, it's actually the same logic used by PUT and I think you might be able to try the same workaround provided.

  • Error with PUT, backup fails on UCCX 7.x

    Hi,
maybe someone knows this, i am having a problem upgrading my UCCX 7.0(1)SR5.
The "Pre-Upgrade Tool" PUT starts doing some stuff, but fails backing up ApplicationConfig data.
    Log shows:
    Sep 22, 2011 3:13:11 PM com.cisco.ccx.w1.export.ExportManager configBackup
SEVERE: Error while doing Cisco Unified CCX Config data
com.cisco.config.ConfigException: READ_ERROR; nested exception is:    java.lang.IllegalStateException: document manager is not initialized
Could not find anything related - anybody ideas?
    Thanks for any tips,
    Ingo

    Ingo,
    Give this a try:
    1.       On the UCCX server, go to C:\Program Files\wfavvid\properties\ folder.
    2.       Take a backup of the application.MCET.properties file(Take a copy and rename
    it to
    application.MCET.properties_org).
    3.       Open the file application.MCET.properties , append the value
",com.cisco.doc.impl.DocumentManagerImpl" (without the quotes)  for the key
com.cisco.manager.managers at the end of this section and save the file.
    (eg:
    com.cisco.manager.managers=com.cisco.executor.impl.ExecutorManagerImpl,com.c
    isco.expressio
    n.impl.ExpressionManagerImpl,com.cisco.database.impl.DatabaseManagerImpl,com
    .cisco.socket.
    impl.SocketManagerImpl,com.cisco.doc.impl.DocumentManagerImpl)
    4.       Try the PUT backup again.
Let me know if this gets you any further

  • Problems upgrading from LMS 3.0 to LMS 3.2 - the backup fails.

I'm upgrading from LMS 3.0 to LMS 3.2 on Solaris. I've met all of the prereq's, patches, etc. It keeps failing on the Backup...It claims I need 15 Gig for the backup. The backup directory I'm using (/opt/backup) has 35 Gig free, so that shouldn't be the issue.

    okcwsi:
I've tried this multiple times and each time it appears to fail on a different file/folder in the sw_images directory. This is our FTP directory where we store lots of IOS images for download. I've removed each of these files it errors out on and it keeps failing. I just removed all files from the sw_images folder and am trying the backup again now.
I'm attaching the backup.log which contains the failure information for each backup I've tried in the past two days.
My main question is...can I skip this backup somehow? I've got another LMS 3.0 system that I can export everything I need from. Skipping the backup isn't an option on the install/upgrade? It gives me the option to quit the install or try the backup again.
    Thanks,

You can skip the backup with a hidden option:
    ./setup.sh -b nobackup
However, I wouldn't feel comfortable until figuring out why the backup has been failing, ostensibly because tar is running into the 255-char limit (100 for the filename and 155 for the path), a result of the many iterations of the following:
    sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/

  • Time Machine backup failed following upgrade to OS X Mavericks

I upgraded from Snow Leopard (10.6.8) to Mavericks yesterday, and since that time have consistently received an errror message that my Time Machine backup is failing.  The message is:  'Backup Failed'  'The backup on "xxxxxx Time Capsule" is already in use.'
My backups to the Time Capsule worked flawlessly prior to the upgrade.
    Additional troubleshooting:
    - When I go to open the Time Capsule in Finder, I can see the folder for my iMac,  but cannot open.  "xxxxxx iMac.sparsebundle" Resource temporarily unavailable"
The backup disk image “/Volumes/Time Capsule-1/Michael Dollinger’s iMac.sparsebundle” is already in use.
Is this a permissions issue?  If so, how do I resolve?
    Any additional suggestions

Note, I MAY have resolved the issue.  I updated the firmware on my Time Capsule (which was not previously even showing in Finder), and now the backup seems to be running.  It took a long time (20+ minutes) to prep, but now it is running.  I'll let you all know if this completes successfully.

  • Upgrade CCX5 EHA to CCX802 EHA failed

    Hi,
I am experiencing a problem while upgrading CCX 5 enhanced HA to CCX 802.
We got the backup from CCX5 using the Upgrade tool from windows to linux. The installation process has been completed successfully.
Now, one the new installation server we select Upgrade from Previous version, enter the SFTP and backup location and use the new license.
While on Upgrade Setup site we got the error attached “Status: Phase 1 of Windows to Linux Upgrade failed”
FAILED : Pre-check for Windows to Linux Upgrade operation failed.
FAILED : Phase 0 (Windows to Linux Upgrade pre-check) of Windows to Linux Upgrade
Phase0 and Phase1 Upgrade logs are collected under the /opt/cisco/uccx/log/W1Upgrade folder. Save the zipped logs for future troubleshooting.
Does anyone knows how we can obtain the logs in order to locate the problem?
If I try to use the “Fresh Install” method then we proceed up to the point where we are able to configure the RM and CTI user.
But when I click on NEXT, I go this on the address bar //10.255.0.15/appadmin/SystemParams?request_type=sysparams.setup.configure and the screen goes blank and nothing happens.
    Anything about that?
    Regards

    Hi,
I am always using FreeFTPd for all UC servers and customers.
I logged into the system using a bootable Linux disk and then get the file from the root.
The problem was a missing file (even if the upgrade tool completed successfully).
I proceeded with a fresh install. As I said the installation process stuck after CUCM (CTI, RMCM) site with a blank page.
What I did as a work around is:
Use a temporary file from the DVD – that passes the CTI and RMCM page and logged in successfully.
(I had the same exact problem with UCCX v5 with the same flavor-High Availability Enhanced)
Then I upload the license from CCX8 HA
Now all are back to normal.
Of course I reconfigure everything else lost on upgrade…
    thanks for you reply.

  • ICloud backups failing due to Safari bookmarks DB being locked

iCloud backups are failing to complete on my iPhone 4 (CDMA), iOS 5.0.1.  I successfully completed a backup on November 9, but haven't been able to get a backup to complete since then.  When I manually invoke the "Back Up Now" function, it starts backing up, then says "There was a problem completing the backup.  Please try again later."
Looking in the console logs (below), it appears the problem is that the Safari bookmarks DB is locked (corrupted?).  Indeed, I am unable to add additional bookmarks in Safari, I get the message: "Bookmarks are being synced.  Please add the bookmark once syncing has completed."
I've tried restarting the iPhone to no avail; I've also looked at Apple's iCloud backup troubleshooting doc, and none of the cases there seemed to match this problem.
Any suggestions ar every much appreciated!

Had same problem, the solution lies with having your original apple ID associated email address "verified".
I may not have all the steps down correctly, but open your apple ID account manager and go to the your listing for email and "verify" the email address.  This association then seems to allow the use of your email address when you are trying to set up this new apple ID that they are requiring for iCloud.
Be aware that this new apple ID has a far reach and apparently cannot be undone, that is you can't change the name, characters, numbers or whatever you have for an email address that becomes your apple ID---even if you can no longer use the email address to receive email.
    Lots of luck.
I have been trying to get the iCloud features to work for over a week now, including a visit to a genius bar, and still not fully functioning.

  • Time machine backup failed to restore

HHaving had major issues with Mail I decided to restore from a Time Machine backup. With hindsight I wish I hadn't! Having foolishly agreed to the 'this will erase everything' warning I waited 8 hours (twice) to get the message that my backup failed to restore. No more detail than that. Does anyone have any ideas / suggestions? I have a MBA with latest upgrade of Yosemite (last upgrade probably caused my Mail issue). Everything is backed up using Time Machine to a Netgear NAS. When going through the restore process I have no is

TThanks Eric. At present I can't connect the NAS directly. I dont seem to have a usb to usb cable. It is connecting via a network cable. My MBA can see the NAS and I've successfully entered my login details and chosen the backup I want to restore.
On C's recommendation I tried reinstalling OSX and planned to then try importing all my files on,y to find that there was not enough disk space. I've now erased everything as it occurred to me that starting with most of my 250G drive free might help. I'm having one more go at restoring directly from the TM backup as this would be my preferred solution (indeed what I had assumed Time Machine was meant for). On,y another 7 hours 26 minutes to wait. If that fails I will have another go at a fresh OS X install and reimport from TM (on the assumption that an empty hard disk will allow that this time).
ANd  do all this because MaIl stopped working with my old POP account and I screwed up the switch to IMAP (by dragging my old Pop account contents across to the new IMAP account is created - will need to do that more carefully if I ever get back to where I started!).

  • MBP wakes from sleep, TM backup fails

Since updating to 10.5.6, whenever I open my MBP, it immediately begins to try to do a Time Machine update to my Time Capsule. This quickly fails. If I look in System Preferences>Time Capsule, in addition to showing that the backup failed, it shows the next scheduled backup, which comes and goes with no backup. The NEXT backup will usually work. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Thanks, guys. Here is a report log. I removed the gateway address numbers from the log since I am both paranoid and not especially computer savvy. Maybe this was unnecessary.
I have one possible theory of the crime. Months ago, I set up an action in Automator and put it into iCal as a plug-in scheduled to go off at 3 am everyday. It is an action to backup a bunch of files from my local iDisk to another file on my iMac. Now, when I sync by iCal, this plug-in gets synced to my other two computers, and every morning, when I wake them up, I get a little alarm telling me the action could not be completed on those computers. Well, of course, since it is set up to copy files from one place to another on ANOTHER computer. Couldn't figure a way around this, so just kept it, and would click OK on the alarm. Caused no problems for months, and may not be the culprit now. Just thought I'd mention it.
Again, this is not a major issue for me, this TM backup problem, as it does eventually backup. I appreciate whoever goes over this log below. You should really have some of your genes frozen or something for future generations.

  • ICloud backup failed message

Trying to enable iCloud on my new iPhone, I keep getting a message that states:  iCloud Backup Failed: There was a problem enabling iCloud storage.  Why is this?  Also, I can't seem to sync my Address book contacts to iPhone as well.  Any advice?
    Thanks,
    Richard

    Same problem here...
I just upgraded my 3GS to iOS5 and signed into iCloud using my Apple ID...
Every time I click "Back Up Now" in the iCloud preferences on the iPhone, I get "There was a problem completing the backup.  Please try again later."
On my wife's iPhone 4, I just performed a back up and there were no errors.  I tried this also on my wife's iPad 2 and it worked perfectly.
    I have tried the following:
    1. In iTunes, when my phone is connected, I selected "Back up to iCloud" on the summary tab
    2. Reset my phone using the steps in the above post
    3. Deleted the iCloud account on my iPhone and logged in again
    4. Tried to backup from 3 different wireless networks
None of the steps above fixed the issue which has been going on all day for me...
Any other help would be great - thanks!

  • How to locate a calendar item causing backup fail?

I assume I have a calendar item in my E70 calendar database that causes all calendar backup and synch efforts to fail.
    Problem description:
    1) The calendar software itself works fine (both the Nokia std calendar and 3rd party Papyrus).
    2) Backup and synch fail whatever method I try. So far I have tried backups with several versions of PC Suite (both on Vista and XP) and Goosync. All fail.
    3) The Goosync people debugged this on their end but they basically said that the phone side application just dies having read about 2/3 of the calendar database but they were not able to pinpoint it any closer. The calendar database contains 400 entries.
PC Suite (all versions, newest I have used is 6.86.9), just basically says that it encountered an error synching the calendar information. Everything else (SMS, contacts etc) seems to be backed up just fine. The backup log is totally useless for debugging what entry causes this.
Is there a debug mode/switch to PC Suite that would help me pinpoint the offending entry and delete it? Or are there any other debugging tools that would help me here?
I know I don't have the newest firmware on my E70, but I don't want to upgrade without being able to backup my essential calendar data first.

Hey, I really need some help here. My calendar is not backed up with Nokia PC Suite and this is a real problem for me.
    Help!

flashplayer plug upgrade/install 11.6.602.180 failed because Trojan Horse was detected by my antiviral software.
    Please can you help?
    Prof_ST

    Hello Wojislav,
Thank you for your prompt response. Yes, I can do that but don't you think that it would be preferable if the installer/update script didn't evoke this response? None of my other software updates does and while I would like to trust people, these days it gets harder and harder when folks are willing to lie and cheat at the drop of a hat and without compunction. It does not help either that false sites (Adobe mimics) have been installing Trojan Horses so it would be safer all around to remove that foible. It is just not very good. Or at least, it does not look very good, which amounts to the same thing at first glance.
    Thanks again for you concern.

Underlying Error=(Error Domain=NSPOSIXErrorDomain Code=5 "The operation couldn’t be completed. Input/out. Any thoughts on what is causing these errors and the upgrade failure?
    Thanks

I have no idea what the specific error code means but input/output errors can sometimes mean a disk is failing. Make a couple of backups of all important data before doing anything else.
Verify your startup disk using the First Aid tab in Disk Utility. If the disk needs repair boot from your Leopard DVD and repair your disk from Disk Utility under Utilities on the screen after you choose your language. Repeat the repair process until Disk Utility reports all is well.
If Disk Utility doesn't find any errors you might want to try a new download of the update and keep a sharp eye on your HD for anything else that might indicate all is not well. Take special care to back up important data.
If Disk Utility finds errors it would probably be a good idea to pay a visit to the Apple Store to have them check out your hard drive even if Disk Utility is able to repair the errors.

  • Backups failing with error 19: the backup disk could not be resolved, or there was a problem mounting it

    Hello all,
Doubt this issue relates to a recent and ugly issue but sharing anyways (resolved thanks to a user here: LaPastenague)
Time Capsule won't backup if Modem (Motorola SB6121) attached
This was on Feb 10th resolved. Few days later I upgraded to Yosemite.  Backups were working fine since.
Yesterday I happen to notice my last backup was 5 days ago.  I looked in the console logs and saw:
2/25/15 3:55:06.127 PM com.apple.backupd[2777]: Attempting to mount network destination URL: afp://Paul;AUTH=SRP@Time%20Capsule._afpovertcp._tcp.local./Data

I called Apple.  Their front line was clueless. He suggested resetting the TC (latest "tower" model btw") which then a backup kicked off YEAH
But the next hour it failed
Called Apple again, this time to Sr Advisor.  He suggested factory reset of the TC and set up again.  Also first backup worked then rest failed
Third call to Apple useless also.  He was asking questions I didn't feel relevant.  He also was asking me to reset the TC which I told him was done 2 hours prior. He asked me to reboot which I could NOT at that time.
I begged him to collect data to submit to engineering, which will take days to get a reply.
So I thought I would throw this out to the community....
TC Is NEW (replaced from last issue).  Mac is 8 months old (iMac 27"), Os is Yosemite,  TC also new (latest model)
    Thanks...

Yosemite is problematic on two fronts.. Networking and Time Machine.. so the combo of doing both with a Time Capsule is like bugs on bugs.
Here is my standard list.. but your problem maybe difficult to resolve.. and my suggestion is simple.. until Apple get their act together and fix TM.. buy Carbon Copy Cloner and use that for your backup. It is solid and reliable.. even better if you use USB drive plugged into the computer and do a bootable clone.. because then you have a backup that is able to be tested for full functionality 2min after the end of the backup.
This also starts from a factory reset.. but the reason for it is to change the configuration which is much more easily handled with factory reset to begin.. the instructions are there.. because this is my standard reply.. this is not uncommon!!
    Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
    Setup the TC again.
ie Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the hard disk doing this.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg TCgen5 and TCwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
Even better if the issue is more wireless use TC24ghz and TC5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense. But this can be tried in the second round.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the TC always takes the same IP address.. you will need to do this on the main router using dhcp reservation.. or a bit more complex setup using static IP in the TC. But this is important.. having IP drift all over the place when Yosemite cannot remember its own name for 5 min after a reboot makes for poor networking. If the TC is main router it will not be an issue.
    4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. but this change will mess up your TM backup.. so be prepared to do a new full backup. Sorry.. keep this one for second round if you want to avoid a new backup.
    5. Mount the TC disk in the computer manually.
In Finder, Go, Connect to server from the top menu,
Type in SMB://192.168.0.254 (or whatever the TC ip is which you have now made static. As a router by default it is 10.0.1.1 and I encourage people to stick with that unless you know what you are doing).
You can use name.. SMB://TCgen5.local where you replace TCgen5 with your TC name.. local is the default domain of the TC and doesn't change.
However names are not so easy as IP address.. nor as reliable. At least not in Yosemite they aren't. The domain can also be an issue if you are not plugged or wireless directly to the TC.
    6. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only.
There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.
You might need to do some more work on the Mac itself. eg Reset the PRAM.. has helped some people. Clean install of the OS is also helpful if you upgrade installed.
    Tell us how you go.
Someone posted a solution.. See this thread.
Macbook can't find Time Capsule anymore
Start from the bottom and work up.. What I list here is good network practice changes but I have avoided Yosemites bug heaven.
This user has had success and a few others as well.

Yosemite has serious DNS bug in the networking application.. here is the lets say more arcane method of fixing it by doing a network transplant from mavericks.
