CD/DVD drive does not work after Win 8 intsallation

from a month i've updated my windows into windows 8, everything is working great but the DVD-RW .
When i put empty cd and try to open it, it gives me error while opening saying:
"windows was unable to complete the format"
So is that a software or a hardware problem?!
waiting for the help !

Does this mean that your CD/DVD drive does not work anymore and is not recognized by system?
If yes, then I would recommend checking this Toshiba document which I found on the knowledge base portal webpage:
+Why does my CD/DVD Drive not work after upgrading to Windows 8?+

You will need to uninstall the Toshiba programs:
TOSHIBA Recovery Media Creator
TOSHIBA Disc Creator

  • Satellite P105 mat****a dvd drive does not work with Win 7

    Greetings,
I need an upgrade on my dvd for my vintage Satellite P105.
I want the fastest dvd burner possible at this time because I am a movie fan and keep them in digital storage.
    1) First should I go get an external drive or can I get top performance with an internal dvd replacement from a parts dealer or Toshiba?
The problem is when I upgraded to windows 7 things changed. I lost my sound but solved that by using a legacy driver for Visa as apparently the sound "board" on the laptop is made for only Vista. Next I found the dvd drive which is a mitsu****a UJ-450s internal does not work or is extremely slow in backing up movies from discs or files. The available burner software also seems intended for Vista as performance was acceptable then. Even the dvd burner software does not work.
    2) So, my question to the mavens of multimedia is: What should be my next move?
    3) Should I go external and face the USB bottle neck or
    4) go for the bus speed on the internal dvd?
    5) Given that an internal dvd is better as it is exactly a dvd-ram/IDE as it currently is, or some other bus configuration.
    6) Most importantly, what dvd burner would give me 18x speed with current software like ConvertXtoDVD and fit as an external or -- better -- as an internal dvd replacement or my slow drive currently?
Of course, if you could give me a model number and direct me to sales it would be much appreciated.
    Thank you all in advance.

    1) First should I go get an external drive or can I get top performance with an internal dvd replacement from a parts dealer or Toshiba?
You should know that not all internal ODD>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>ODD?>>>>>>>>>> devices are compatible. You will need to use an compatible and supported ne and such device could be ordered from an local ASP.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>ASP?>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>
But its more expensive as an external CD/DVD device therefore you could also choose an external one which would be compatible with all possible notebooks and computers.
    Makes sense
    2) So, my question to the mavens of multimedia is: What should be my next move?
As mentioned. Good option would be to buy an external ODD burner>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Okay>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
    3) Should I go external and face the USB bottle neck or
External device are compatible with all computers and are cheaper>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>yes, but isn't the data thru put slower with an external via USB or should I get firewire?>>>>>>>>>>>
    4) go for the bus speed on the internal dvd?
If you have the money for an internal device and want to use it only with P105 then you can choose also an internal burner.>>>>>>>>>>>>they are $96 here at toshiba site>>>>>>>>>>>>
    e
    5) Given that an internal dvd is better as it is exactly a dvd-ram/IDE as it currently is, or some other bus configuration.
As far as I know its an IDE interface but the device would support master or slave or c-sel>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>what is c-sel????>>>>>>>>>>>>> settings. As mentioned, you have to buy an Toshiba recommended one.>>>>>>>>>>>>>the one sold here would be recommended, would they not?>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
    6) Most importantly, what dvd burner would give me 18x speed with current software like ConvertXtoDVD and fit as an external or -- better -- as an internal dvd replacement or my slow drive currently?

  • Dvd player does not work after Leopard upgrade

I installed Leopard, had to upgrade because my printer died and no printers now work with Tiger.  Since the upgrade, my DVD player does not work.  I have problems burning some cd's too.  Is this a known issue?  What is the fix?

I have read a couple of complaints like that, but not sure it's widespread.
At this point I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15667/applejack
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 6 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
    Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files! :-)
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterruptible Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.
If that does NOT help, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.
If that does NOT help then I suspect the optical drive or media itself, or possibly just needs a cleaning CD run on it.

  • Tecra M10-10z - 3G does not work after Win 7 installation

    Tecra M10-10z I have installed Windows 7 pro 64bit
Everything is configured correctly, but connection 3G does not work: the message is " no network"
    with Windows XP is ok.
I did not find firmware updates or similar.
Is there someone who can help me?
    tks

    Hi
In order to use the 3G you should firstly check if the 3G ericsson module was properly installed.
In case there is an yellow exclamation mark visible in the device manager, the 3G driver should be reinstalled.
I found on the Toshiba EU driver page:
    [Ericsson 3G Win 7 driver|http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory =2&selFamily=5&selSeries=148&selProduct=813&selSho rtMod=null&language=13&selOS=30&selType=295&yearup load=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=al lMachines&search=&action=search&macId=&country=all &selectedLanguage=13&type=295&page=1&ID=71930&OSID =-1&driverLanguage=42]
Furthermore ensure that the 3G RF Power Control Utility has been installed properly.
The 3G RF Power Control Utility" activates your 3G on startup.
This tool can be found here:
    [3G RF Power Control Utility for Win 7 64bit|http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory =2&selFamily=5&selSeries=148&selProduct=813&selSho rtMod=null&language=13&selOS=30&selType=322&yearup load=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=al lMachines&search=&action=search&macId=&country=all &selectedLanguage=13&type=322&page=1&ID=73658&OSID =-1&driverLanguage=42]
Hope the 3G network would functions after the reinstallation of both tools.

  • DVD/DVR does not work after 10.4.7 upgrade

    Hi!
After updating to 10.4.7. The PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-105 does not work !!!
It won't recognize, spin, or eject discs automatically. It does let me insert and eject discs manually, and that's it.
I'm sure it's due to the upgrade and not becasue the drive went bad or something.
    Any clues what to do?
(Is it possible to go BACK at the previous upgrade when such things happen?)
    Thank You!
    Dual 1.25 G4, 10.4.7   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

You're not alone, a lot of folks are experiencing this bull, myself included. If only there was an easy way to reinstall 10.4.5.

After 6 days receiving my mac book pro I insert a CD to install my internet services, the the drive did not work and is not possible to take out the CD the icon does not appear in the desktop nor work the expulsion keyboard after read the topics in help the CD reamins in the drive.
I appreciate any help on the above isse
I believe this is unacceptable for an expensive device for a newly user/client.

Try starting up Disc Utility from your utilities Folder, Mac fail, and see if you can eject the disk from there.
If not, as your computer is brand new, I'd suggest you simply get in contact with the place you purchased it from to arrange a replacement.
    Cheers

  • Print Spooler does not work after Win 8.1 install

I upgraded several computers to Win 8.1.  Most are operating normally and do not have this problem.  This is relevant to show that it is not a printer hardware or compatibility problem.  On one computer, the print function is not working.
I've tried reinstalling printers, getting new drivers, etc.  It comes down to this.  An active (connected) printer is selected and print test page is selected.  The dialog box says that the print queue is full.  I went to the queue subdirectory
and deleted all files, no change to the results.  The Print spooler is active in task manager.  Stopping and restarting the print spooler makes no difference.  Any ideas?

I had similar problems with HP Printers on the LAN (after upgrade from Windows 8 tot 8.1
    32bit)
HP Laserjet 4000  Laserjet 4050 and Laserjet 4250 - all with Network interface.
Erratic behaviour: inserting blank pages, no duplex printing, programs stalling when printing etc…
Printers and network are fully functional and work perfectly with W7 and XP. Not with Windows 8.1.
Strange thing: Epson Aculaser and Ricoh Aficio 3224  worked fine but those were installed after the Windows update.
So definitely something with the Microsoft drivers for the HP Laserjet printers.
After a few installs and uninstalls of the HP printer drivers the problems stayed.
Then I removed all HP related driver files (C:\\Windows\\system32\\spool\\PRINTERS")
and all references in the Register because the standard uninstall of the drivers did not remove all files.
-> First uninstall ALL  HP printers (laserjet, deskjet, officejet etc ..)
    -> Then look in
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows NT x86\Drivers]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows NT x86\Print Processors]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers]
Make a backup of the registry keys and then remove all files starting with hp….
Remove the print processors starting with hp
    (i.e. hpzpplhn.exe)
    Then restart your system.
Reinstall the printers, they should be OK now.
If you still have duplex printing problems : replace the hpzpplhm print processor with the winprint processor. (may give other limitations, google for more info).
In my case this solved the erratic printing problems.

  • System recovery on Sattelite M70-204 PSM71E. The CD/DVD drive does not work

    Hello!
Can you please give me some help and advice on the way to resolve the following issues:
I have had over the last three months minor problems with Windows Installer: software updates could not always be performed successfully, an error message was issued by Windows Installer regarding Quick Time when I started the computer. Apart from it, the computer was runing correctly. I had plan to restore the system with the Toshiba CD in the coming weeks to correct the issues.
But since yesterday, I have had a new problem. The CD drive is not recognized anymore under Windows XP.
I have tried to repair the driver from the CD drive following the procedure described by Toshiba. It did not work. I do not know if it is an hardware or a software problem which prevent me to recognize and use the CD and DVD drive under Windows XP and I do not know either if I can still run anymore a Restore process.
_*1/If I launch a Restore process, I believe that, at the start ,the HD will be formatted. How can I be sure that my computer will be able to read the data from the Toshiba Restore CD?*_ ( I have today a computer which still works almost properly. I would not like to be stuck with a completely dead computer, if the Restore process fails due to the CD driver)
_*2/ Is it possible to restore without using the internal CD drive? (use of an external CD drive or external HD)*_
Thank you in advance for your help and advice!

    Please ignore my request!
I have been able to fix the problem by correcting the Register. The CD/DVD drive works now properly.

  • CD/DVD drive does not work - error code 39 on Satellite A300

    Good evening.
I've encountered a problem with my Satellite A300.
I can't get the disk drive to function.
Device manager says the driver is current. But also says it is corrupt "code 39".
I have tried downloading new drivers from Toshibas website but they all come up as code 39 unable to install. The first I noticed it was last night when I was installing Norton 360. I had the cd it worked once then nothing.
Has anyone ran across this before?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi
I had the same issue and I found a solution here in the forum.
The problem is that your Windows registry is muddled up.
You should firstly access the device manager and should remove the CD/DVD drive from the device list.
Secondly you have to start the registry and have to remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Finally reboot the notebook and test the CD/DVD drive again!
    Bye

  • Sound driver does not work after reinstalling XP on Tecra M9

    Hi,
After lot's of fighting i've given up. It's just been imposible to get my sound card up a running on my TECRA M9 PTM91E, after i decided to give it a clean up by formating the disk entirely. My proceedure goes as follows:
    1. Installed WINDOWS XP SP2
    2. Downloaded of all drivers on another pc. Downloads from toshiba's official driver site: http://es.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=ES
    3. Installed drivers in correct order following instructions: http://es.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/tracker.jsp?file=http%3a%2f%2fsupport.toshiba-tro.de%2ftedd-files2%2f0%2finstall-20070918164527.zip
    4. No luck when attempting to install sound card driver (download page specifies an integrated realtek) tried following version first: http://es.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/tracker.jsp?file=http%3a%2f%2f81.27.174.52%2ftedd-files2%2f0%2fsound-20071002102843.zip
    5. Messed around trying older drivers from other TECRA M Series laptops, no luck either.
    6. Decided sound card just might not be a Realtek and tried other models on the download page: Sigma and Analog Devices Inc. Tried those but got back a non recognition alert.
Has anyone had this problem as well? My best guess it's just might be a problem about the driver version...

Yes, I have exactly the same problem.
We are building our master unit and we *must* do a install from bare metal of all the software. We do an automated provisioning for the rest of our massive purchase.
We have build a custom version of the Windows XP SP2 installation CD (with disk and chipset drivers injected). It has been working ok.
We have installed all the software drivers using the same procedure as yours (in the order proposed in install.txt).
The only thing that has failed is the sound.
This is the first place we ask for a solution. I hope we will have an answer (from toshiba) soon.

  • Tecra S3 - Wlan does not work after Win XP installation

    Hello everyone,
I have recently purchased a Tecra S3 PTS30E-0TL059GH without operating system.
    I've installed WIndows XP professional.
Everything works, except for the wireless lan. I can switch it on, but it doesn't seem to find the right drivers.
The device manager states problems with the networkcontroller and two other unknown devices.
I've installed all drivers from the toshiba website, but it still won't work.
    Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Hi
I think the notebook supports INTEL 802.11 B/G WLan card but I'm not 100% sure about that...
In my opinion you should try to identify the WLan module.
    How to do that?
In such case the usage of the PCI database should be very helpful.
    More details here:
[How to identify an unknown device (e.g. Wireless LAN module)?|http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=78]
Knowing the exact WLan specs, it should not be a big deal to get the right driver.

  • Tecra M5: DVD drive does not read these mini DVDs

I have canon dvd handycam, and mini dvd works on it. One month back i recorded movie and pictures on mini dvd using handycam and ran mini dvd on my tecra M5 dvd drive, it worked very fine.
Now after 1 month i have 5 mini dvds with movies and pictures which i took on 1 month vacation in diffierent countries, i tried my best but tecra dvd drive does not read these mini dvd, cd drive label appears instead dvd drive when i put mini dvd in it.
All other standard size dvds, cds working fine on it.Its complicated and as well as irritating.
    Any suggestions?
    Why its messedup?

Seems the lens cannot read this miniDVDs. Possibly the drive lens cannot calibrate and therefore the miniDVDs are nonreadable.
Try the solution from sascha. Maybe youre a lucky man and it works.
If not, try to remove the drive physically from the notebook. Reboot the notebook without the drive. The Windows and BIOS shouldnt recognize the drive.
Then shuts down again, put the drive into the notebook and boot up the unit.
The notebook should recognize the drive and should indicate the firmware again.
Im not sure if this will help you but its attemptable
