Cd/dvd sets

Do iTunes music downloads include the same content that their physical versions do? For instance, if a physical cd comes with a DVD, does the iTunes version include the video as well? I'm interested specifically in the "Hold Steady - A Positive Rage" live CD.
Thank you!

You need a retail DVD and not one which originally shipped with a Mac.

Anthony, thank you very much - this works, though I thought I had tried your process previously without success. I've tried so many things who knows. I've had zero luck going with the Send to Compressor or Export Using Compressor Settings under the Share menu. I'm also finding Compressor 4 to be a real dog on my system even though I have a brand new quad core machine with 8G of RAM. Prior to receiving your post I did come up with a different work process. Using Export Movie from FCP X and then loading the result in Compressor 3 works flawlessly. Thanks again!

You should be able to get some more precise information from your Xorg logs, but I would bet it is related to the evdev driver. Some of the options in your xorg.conf no longer work with the latest version. For now you should be able to either map your mouse directly to the appropriate /dev/event* entry or change to the standard mouse driver, both of those methods should be in the wiki.
You are supposed to be able to use the evdev driver without the input section of your xorg.conf by using dbus/hal autodetection, but AFAIK at the moment the xorg-server package still isn't compiled with hal support, so you would have to patch and rebuild the package.

  • DVD set to wrong region and crashes when I try to change it

I'm in Region 2. I only watch Region 2 DVDs, I only want to watch Region 2 DVDs. At Christmas, my DVD player was working fine with Region 2 DVDs. Today I tried to load another Region 2 DVD (for the first time since I updated the OS for the App Store, I don't know if that's relevant) and DVDPlayer tells me I'm set to Region 1, do I want to change?
I have no idea why it thinks its set to Region 1 but yes, I want to change, so I unlock the padlock and select Region 2. DVDPlayer immediately crashes out completely with no changes made. I have tried rebooting, moving the com.apple.dvdplayback.setregion.plist and com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist and all sorts. It still crashes out. I can't find how I'm supposed to know how many region changes I have left, but as far as I'm aware I haven't used any. I get no dialogs warning me of having used any.
Console reports these errors when DVDPlayer crashes:
    13/01/2011 22:03:45 com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.dvdplayback.setregion[35408]) Exited with exit code: 4
    13/01/2011 22:03:45 com.apple.launchd.peruser.502[171] ([0x0-0x30c33c03].com.apple.DVDPlayer[35184]) Exited with exit code: 1
Does anyone know how I can fix this so I can watch my DVDs again?
    Thanks

Edit: I have found the DVD I played before Christmas and tried playing that, and that still works. However now that I have a DVD that allows me to keep DVDPlayer open, I have found the Region settings, and it still says that it's Region 1, with 1 Drive change remaining for some reason. The DVD that works is 2+4 PAL UK (Back and forth Region 2 only), as is the DVD that doesn't work.

  • OS X 10.5.6 Leopard DVD set

I have a 17" MacBook Pro model MA611LL/A. Can I use the OS X 10.5.6 Leopard DVD's from a 15" MacBook Pro. To re-install OS X 10.5.6 Leopard back into the MacBook Pro 17" lap top? Do not know which model computer the OS X 10.5.6 Leopard for 15" came from. It was listed on eBay for sale. Reason I want to buy it? I know have Snow Leopard, and it disabled my Firewire ports. Firewire ports work finw, when I use 10.4.8 Tiger as the startup drive. Am hoping Leopard, will not have the same disabling effect on the Firewire ports, that Snow Leopard has caused.

No, the disk set is machine specific.

  • DVD setting to widen picture when letterbox detected???

I always end my projects in FCP by cropping the top and bottom of the screen to give it that letterbox effect. But after running it through DVDSP, the players never recognize the letterbox parts as an indicator to zoom in on the image until the letterbox parts are off screen. Thus giving more screen to the left and right sides of the image.
Does anyone know if there's a setting of some kind in either DVDSP or FCP that will indicate to widescreen monitors to zoom in just up to the black bands on the top and bottom of the screen?
    Thanks in advance.
    Enio

    Side note:
This realization came about when I made the mistake of buying a copy of the Pre-digitally enhanced version of "The Empire Strikes Back" only to discover that all Lucasfilm did was do an analog transfer of the old Laserdisc copy and burn it directly onto DVDs.
They didn't even have the decency to program the disc to play widescreen when the monitor was wide. Instead you get letterbox bars on the top, the bottom, the left, and the right. It's downright embarrassing. But it did get me thinking maybe there is a way to fix this, at least on my own projects.
Any info would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

  • ProBook 6550b Recovery DVD Set

I have just purchased a used ProBook 6550b, Product WD704ET#ABU from an e-Bay source.  The unit came without HDD, Battery, RAM or charger, all of which I have ordered.  The Microsoft COA label says that the original System was Windows 7 Pro OA 64 bit.
I have a Desktop PC which is already running Win 7 Pro 32 bit and still have the 64 bit version DVD.  Can I use this to do a clean install on the new HDD when I get it, but use the COA Product Key when authorising the PC with Microsoft?
Since the Hardware will have changed from the original authorisation, (HDD and RAM increased in size), will I have to purchase a set of HP Recovery DVD's in order to restore the system?
If the latter is the case, what do I order and where do I order it from?
Any help will be gratefully accepted.

    Hi,
What is the insallation DVD, is it also a HP OEM version ? If not this may not work but as the HDD is a brand new one, you can always try, worse case you lost around 45mins of your time. More RAM and new HDD should be ok. You can order from the following link:

    Good luck.

  • Unable to restore from DVD set - ThinkPad keeps rebooting to Rescue and Recovery screen

    Hello:
    Lenovo x140e laptop / 2.05 BIOS:
    (image link removed)
I have used Lenovo Rescue / Recovery to make a full disk image backup to DVDs for installation of SSD drive.
Attempting to boot from Rescue / Recovery DVD appears to load Windows files, start Windows then goes to this Lenovo R&R screen:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/f4h423vbk1rpfm0/2014-09-18%2008.53.21.jpg?dl=0
No menus show up asking to restore anything, in about 5 seconds it shuts down and reboots again over and over.
I did have BIOS 2.01 and upgraded it using Lenovo BIOS boot DVD upgrader, now is 2.05 and same result.
Factory reset would be OK, but tI paid extra for Windows 7 pro "downgrade" (ironic, no?) that I would like to keep.  System restore disks that came with theunit are for Windows 8.1 .
    Help?

FYI that error is known as a "kernel panic", typically software related but potentially hardware related.
I recommend starting with a clean install (erase the hardware, and reinstall Mac OS X). Do not transfer/migrate any data yet. After you have created a new user account, test the computer to ensure the hardware seems responsive. If computer performance is positive, use Migration Assistant to began migrating your backups to your computer.

  • MPEG-2 or dvd setting

i have a 3 min project i am pressing for DVD,
what is the difference between the compressor presets for MPEG 2 and DVD?
also i shot it with a Z1P in DV wide and worked in FCP in anamorpic and have tried compressing in 16:9 and building the dvd in DVDSP in 16:9 but the final burned DVD plays on my Widescreen LCD TV in a wide version but it is letterboxed?
    cheers
    TH

is it because i upgraded from FCP HD version 4,
    i have both options, mpeg2 outputs a mpeg2 file and a DVD PCM Audio, and DVD outputs a mpeg2 file, a AIFF 48/16 and a dolby 2.0.
    another question,
i have made a video, PAL DV 48khz,
i made a dvd of it in DVDSP, compressed with MPEG2 60min high quality widescreen- mpeg2 file and AIFF
it worked perfect when i checked it but the client says that the audio goes loud and soft all the time while viewing it on his DVD player
have i stuffed up somewhere, the audio should be 48Khz all the way right?
thanks for your time if you reply

  • How do I get the Recovery partition onto a DVD set from my solid state drive?

My Pavilion dv6 has only a solid state drive. I need to recover and reuse the 23  gb  currently partitioned for recovery. To do this I need to move the recovery files off the drive.  Can this be done?  Where do i find instructions on how to do it?

Hello txi, Your best bet would be to use a hard drive image program and perform a complete hard drive image.
If you have Windows 7 on the SSD this would include the System partition, the C: partition and the D: Recovery partition.
The D: Recovery requires some data from the Master Boot Record (MBR) in order to be accessed.
Just trying to copy the data from the Recovery partition would not be successful if you wanted to use this data later.
By making a hard drive imgae of the entire hard drive, and saving this image on an external hard drive, or a large enough USB drive, you could then delete the D: partition and expand the C: partition to recover the D: partition capacity.
Then if you need to revert back as the system was when the hard drive image was created, the D: partition would be put back on the SSD.

  • How can I set up a Canon printer on iMac with cd? (iMac has no cd/dvd drive?)

Purchased the latest iMac with no dvd drive; also purchased a Canon printer with dvd set-up; how can I install printer on iMac?

Macs do not usually need to download anything from the CDs that come w/printers.  Read the user manual that came w/the printer and/or contact Canon Support.
Or purchase an external burner.  Do not purchase Apple's usb burner.  3rd party burners are 110% better.

  • Hollywood DVD 16:9 Full Screen setting?

You know when you put in a Hollywood movie DVD in a DVD player outputing to a HDtv how the DVD player knows to make the 16:9 image fullscreen instead of letterbox?  How do they do that?  Is there a special setting or information the DVD player requires to know to take this action?
I have scanned the forums and understand that the DVD player itself (along with the hdtv) has to be set to display for 16:9 (and with that being a constant) I want to make sure that the DVD player will know that the disc I have created contains a 16:9 formatted video that should be displayed full screen without the letterbox.  I am creating these videos using Premier and Encore CS5.
If you would be so kind, could you list the format settings I should be using to edit with using AVCHD in premier, and then the export/encoding settings for making the DVD in encore.  Also if there are any special setting I have to make to the creation of DVD itself to let the DVD player know to play 16:9 full screen on a HDtv.
I am wanting to make a checklist of sorts to insure that DVD's that I create will display as I intend.
Thanks for your help in advance.
Additional information that should be considered a given:
    HDtv settings: 1080i, 1080p, 720p
    DVD setting:  Display 16:9

As long as you are talking about DVD (and not bluray), you understand what you need:  you instruct the DVD player on what kind of TV is hooked up - and it is not HD vs SD, but 16:9 vs 4:3 that is at issue.  Just put the widescreen on your DVD.  It will play widescreen on a widescreen TV, and letter boxed on a 4:3.
How to get avchd onto a dvd is another topic; several threads in these forums.

  • Why won't Apple provide a list of COMPATIBLE SET TOP DVD PLAYERS?

Why won't Apple provide its users a comprehensive list of COMPATIBLE DVD SET TOP PLAYERS? If they have, can someone direct me (us) to it? Although most set top DVD players will read Apple burned DVD discs, many set top DVD players will NOT read DVD's burned with the combination of iDVD and or DVD Studio Pro software and the built-in burners that ship with Mac computers. Obviously this is a third-party related issue, but it might be nice to provide at least the know set-top DVD players that DO WORK with DVD's burned on Apple computers using Apple software.

Blatantly untrue ... pure BULL. I've been burning DVDs for years with my Mac and DVD-SP. After thousands of DVDs delivered to clients, I've only had two (yes, 2) complaints of playback issues.
The two major factors to playback compatibility are the quality of the media and the bit rate used. Keep bit rates reasonable; don't use AIFF audio; use only good quality media like Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden and stay away from low quality media such as Memorex.

  • What compression to use when Exporting HD video from final cut pro PAL setting

    Hi there
I'm trying to export my HD video from Final cut Pro so that I can edit it in DVD studio Pro. I initially exported it on H.264 setting however it then gives me the message 'NTSC assets cannot be imported into PAL projects' It was edited with PAL setting so I think it must be the conversion but i'm not sure which option to use.....been really struggling to get the 1 hour footage under 4.5gb without losing too much quality...
    Any advice greatly appreciated!
    thanks

    Just to add two suggestions.
    1) Consider putting your four movies on two disks.
    2) Bring your movies into Compressor and duplicate the stock DVD setting. In the Encoding pane of the Inspector, select a CBR and dial it back to around 6.2 to 6.5 Mbs. In Preview mark a small section and submit; you'll get 2 elementary streams, with m2v and AC3 extensions. Bring that into DVDSP and evaluate results. Adjust as necessary. (This is to avoid waiting out very long encodes and then having to start again from scratch if you get disappointing results.)
