Certain youtube videos won't play in Firefox

Firefox 20.0.1, windows 7, flashplayer up to date.
Certain youtube videos won't play. The advert beforehand plays, and then the video just displays a black screen, no loading, trying to skip to a later time in the video doesn't work. It seems to be certain youtube users whose videos won't play, users whose videos I was able to watch only yesterday. The featured video on the user's channel is watchable, but not when opened separately.
IE won't show the affected videos either.

In addition to these symptoms, I've noticed that I can view these troubled videos on my cellphone just fine, but neither my XP or Win7 machine, which have all software updated can view. So if it was on youtubes side, it wouldn't work on my phone either.

  • Youtube videos won't play with Firefox.

Youtube is still working with Safari and Chrome but for some reason it stopped working with Firefox. This happened the night before it updated to Firefox 25. I thought the update was the issue but it's not. I've tried everything that I've read about to fix this issue. I've tried playing vids in safe mode, updated to the latest version of flash, disabled hardware acceleration, I've cleared all cookies and cache, I've reset firefox, I've deleted all my add-ons, I've deleted and re-installed firefox. Nothing is working. Anyone got a clue what to do?

I have the same problem. I followed all of the above suggestions to no avail. Advertisements play fine. But when the skip option pops up, it doesn't count down smoothly from 5 -0 seconds. It will say, 5, 4, 5, 5, 4, and then sometimes you can skip ad. It doesn't matter if you skip ad or not. When the video comes up, it acts like it wants to load and play but will only play for a second, then restarts from beginning and says an error occured. Same thing in Explorer. And this is a brand new, Windows 7 64-bit computer. Is there anything else I can do to get Youtube videos to play?

  • Certain Youtube Videos won't load anywhere.

    Hello everyone.
Since a few days (I guess) I've encountered major problems with Youtube. Certain Videos won't load in Firefox. They just won't - they stay at the 0:00 mark and never move. I can see the first frame and I can even scroll through the frames, but it will never play. That isn't the case for every Youtube video, though. Most of them work fine, but a few of them have this problem. And the number of videos having this problem is raising fast. Even videos I could watch perfectly fine before simply won't work anymore.
And really - I am at my wit's end. I've tried every fix known to man (as far as I know). Cleared cache, cleared cookies, updated Flash, Firefox and every other program or plugin I know of, updated drivers, un- and reinstalled both Flash and Firefox completely, changing Flash's settings - but nothing works. These particular videos just never want to move.
And the funny thing is: It's is not even just a Firefox problem. It doesn't work on any other browser of mine. It doesn't even work on my other two computers. Not even on my Smartphone!! Once a video encountered this problem it is GONE FOREVER. I have no possibility to watch it anywhere. But it can't be the video. Because ~120.000 people have already watched it without having any problems.
Yeah, so why am I asking this in the Firefox forum? It's because Firefox was the browser which started it all and if Youtube would just work for Firefox - I'd be fine with that.
So if anybody can help me with this I'd be very, very grateful!
    Regards, Megamag

After re-installing the software, did you perform a "hard reboot" on the machine? It could be that although you installed the updated version of Adobe flash player, the computer may not recognize the updated software until a cold reboot has been performed. Here is a link to a website I went to find this information:
    [[Can't play Online Videos--Here's what to do|http://www.compukiss.com/videos/cant-play-online-videos-heres-what-to-do.html]]
Here is Adobe's website if you want to check to see if your adobe's Flash Player is updated:
    http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Performing a cold reboot on your machine will reset the adapters and clear out the memory which will also enable the PC to recognize the new software installed. To perform a cold reboot on your machine:
1.) Go to the "Start Button" and press ''Shut Down."
2.) If you have a desktop, unplug the power cord and leave off for 10 seconds. If you have a laptop, remove power supply and battery for 10 seconds. (I leave mine off for at least 20 to 40 seconds myself.)
3.) Re-install the battery(laptop) and plug in the power cord.
    4.) Boot the machine on.
Here are the links I used for this information:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/102228
    http://www.ehow.com/how_2292987_cold-boot-computer.html
If this method doesn't work, then I would recommend going to your manufacturer's website and see if they can't help you resolve this issue with your videos not playing on your computer.

  • MailOnline videos won't play in Firefox unless in safe mode although they're fine in Explorer.

It's for my mum, honest. Firefox 25, java and flash uptodate but the Mail Online videos won't play unless I start Firefox in safemode. A large white rectangle appears but nothing else.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
    *Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
    *Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
    *Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit)

  • Help me please, games crash on launch, youtube videos won't play.

Whenever i start up sound blaster cinema it just crashes, it will be fine for about 10 seconds, then it just crashes, it will usually freeze up everything when it crashes only thing i can do is move my cursor around, it will unfreeze after 10 seconds or so as well.
I have tried to update sound blaster cinema but there are not updates available.
It would usually go back to normal after a shutdown or a restart but this time it wasn't having any of it.
Can anyone suggest anything that i couldn't think of?
The crashing first started a month+ ago, but today when I was playing L4D2 a boomer explosion crashed L4D2 and sound blaster cinema simultaneously and now sound blaster cinema won't stop crashing after launch.
    (Edit)
I can't launch any games, i try to play the game osu! and it launches normally except the screen turns black and then it crashes. i try to launch steam and login but the login menu wont pop
I can't even play a youtube video, the background of the video will show but the video won't play, it's not buffering but the video is loading.
windows media player won't launch as well, videos on my computer will not play at all.

    (FIXED)
I went and downloaded thee intel(R) driver update utility 2.0 went to find drivers and then to auto detect and updated my drivers.
This is the driver that helped me. vvvv
( Iris, irispro, and hd graphics driver for windows*7/8/8.1 version 15.36.19.64.41.70 )
Sound blaster cinema doesn't crash on launch anymore, neither does my game osu! and youtube videos now play.

  • YouTube Video Won't Play

I am having a problem with just one video on YouTube, and I
    can't
explain it or get it to play; it just shows the Loading
    screen
indefinitely. Here is a link to the video:
    Extreme Funny:
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=GuMMfgWhm3g
The clip plays fine on three other computers. I can also load
    a clip
    from the same author (
    http://youtube.com/watch?
    v=bYcsyc_iKS8&mode=user&search=) with no problem.
This is on a Toshiba Satellite laptop running Windows XP SP2
    and IE6.
It has AVG antivirus and no firewall or proxy.
Here are some of the steps I have taken so far:
    * Tested the clip in Mozilla Firefox (wouldn't play there
    either)
    * Cleared the Windows Prefetch directory
    * Added a FLV extension to the file types and associated it
    with the
Flash Player (removed after unsuccessful testing)
    * Checked the YouTube help files and followed their
    suggested course
    of action:
o Uninstalled the Adobe Flash Player and reinstalled it
o Checked the default program for streaming media
    o Checked for popup software
    o Checked for firewall interference
    * Analyzed the link to the embedded clip and compared it to
    another
by the same author (no difference)
    * Checked the AVG AntiVirus logs for interference
    * Tested a larger video clip which played with no problem
    * Changed Internet security settings to Default (IE6)
    * Increased the available size of the Temporary Internet
    Files
folder since the FLV clip is 12MB.
    * Cleared the Temporary Internet Files folder to force a
    refresh
    of the download
I still can't get this clip to play without copying the
    downloaded
file in the Temporary Internet Files to the desktop and
    launching with
a third-party flv player. It doesn't look like it is a
    network
    communication problem either, since:
    * the Extreme Funny clip is located on the YouTube domain
    * other clips from the YouTube domain play without any
    problem
    * the Extreme Funny clip plays fine on other systems
Can anyone figure this out?? Please help!

Turns out I was using the Beta HTML Player. Unchecked that box and it is fine now using Flash. It worked fine until I updated Safari. My system is up to date.

  • Every other Youtube video won't play

I am using Chrome so I don't know if this is the appropriate place to ask for help.  Every other youtube video or other video I try to play will not load.  I just get this constant spinning circle of white dots.  I did see that I had accidently downloaded the extension for chrome flashplayer so it was competing with apples flashplayer.  However, I unselected Chromes version of flashplayer and it did not fix the problem.  Does anyone have any ideas on what may be wrong?

    <!--Comment-->
<i>right click on the videos and they say Adobe Flash so i assume they are not in HTML5 but i am not sure. </i>
What does it say when you go to https://www.youtube.com/html5?<br>
Mine says <b> The default player is currently used. </b> which of course means I'm using Flash and not the HTML5 player.
Can you try to start Firefox in Safe Mode to see if Firefox works properly with no error? You can start Firefox in Safe Mode below:
*'''Windows/Mac''': Go to Help > Restart with add-ons disabled
*'''Linux''': Run ''firefox -safe-mode'' in the Terminal/Konsole
If Firefox opens up fine with no problems, it's probably one of your extensions that's causing the issue. You can re-enable your add-ons one by one until you find the one that causes the issue upon being re-enabled.

  • Adobe Flash 11.4 Installed on pc, but doesn't appear in plugin add-on list. flash or youtube videos won't play

    Hi
I updated to the latest flash player 11.4.402.287 today, both the activex or plugin versions appear in the flash manager. However, I am unable to play flash videos in youtube, the bar at the top indicates "Install missing plugin" I have repeated the installation process, it does appear to complete successfully, but again when attempting to play youtube videos the "install missing plugin appears" and videos will not play.
I have also installed and re-installed the latest version of firefox today, thought that may help, seem to have the same problem. The flash player isn't listed in the plugin add on list. I'm not sure what else to do or what the problem could be.
I would appreciate any advice, please

H Shaun, <br/>I am using Ubuntu at the moment. I am not sure if the Adobe installer recognises you are on a 32 bit browser and even if it does it presumably allows you a choice, but why not just check and ensure it is a 32 bit version you have installed; and if in doubt uninstall and reinstall.
If Flash is installed and suitable for Firefox it should show as a [https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Gecko_Plugin_API_Reference/Plug-in_Basics#How_Gecko_finds_plug-ins listed] plugin so if it does not show something has gone wrong, and there can be little expectation of Flash working in Firefox.

  • Youtube videos won't play when logged in to google

This is the best way I can narrow my problem down.
I started getting the message, 'an error occurred, please try again later,' and let me just say-
I have cleared my cookies, cache, and history, multiple times. Sometimes it helps briefly, other times it doesn't at all, and it's never a permanent fix.
I have turned off my antivirus.
I have made sure all of my hardware and software is up to date.
I have tried Chrome, it works there.
I've tried reinstalling both flash and firefox and updating and nothing worked.
I tried starting FireFox in safe mode to see if it was an extension
I installed the YouTube add-on and played with those settings (I got that from another question someone posted).
Now, it consistently happens that if I'm logged out of my google account, I can play videos, and if I'm logged in, I can not. I don't know if this is a permanent thing or if it's just another trippy episode, but the point of the matter is; its broken, and I have no clue what to do next.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.
Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.
You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.
It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

  • YouTube videos won't play on Google Chrome anymore!

I noticed that today Google Chrome won't play YouTube videos anymore, even in HTML5. If I try to watch a YouTube video, the buffer bar appears for a split second, but then it vanishes and the loading takes forever! I'm using Google Chrome 33 on Windows 8.  Is there some way to fix this?   Here's a video I was trying to watch.
Never mind.  It seems that embedded YouTube videos work fine here, but not on the YouTube site!

    Hi!
I am having a similiar issue since the last update. But contradictory to what you said, i am able to see only videos on Youtube site and not the embedded ones.
Hope it gets fixed soon, for this is very annoying
    Flash player: 12.0.0.70
    Chrome: 33.0.1750.117

  • You Tube videos won't play using FireFox 12

Fire Fox will not play YouTube videos. When I go to the site, I see just a black box with no error messages. The video never loads. I have uninstalled flash player and re-installed with no success in playing you tube videos. IE will play you tube videos! I have disabled all anti-virus, firewall, plugins, etc and FireFox still will NOT play YouTube videos. Please help!

This still did not work. I have noticed that FireFox will not play any video on any website. I am able to play all video using IE browser.

  • Since upgrading to Lion, YouTube videos won't play

A couple of weeks ago I decided to update from Snow Leopard to Lion. I thought that would entitle me to free Mountain Lion Updates, since Apple had already announced the launch date, but it seems that isn't the case, which is odd.
In any case, I've been frustrated because ever since the OS update, a lot of YouTube content won't run. Most videos play, but a surprising number show a never-ending circular buffer icon. I have a 20Mbps Internet connection on a Mac Pro with 12Gb of RAM, so this behavior doesn't make sense. Vimeo videos play fine.
I rebooted, zapped the PRAM and tried other fixes without success. I would like to reset the video pref or other configuration files to see if that will help, but I'm not sure which files to delete. Does anyone know what steps I can take?

    Hi,
Have you disable the adobe flash accerlator? or how about your wifi setting? is it a WPA? If yes, changed to WEP.

  • Youtube videos won't play on a PPC based machine

I have access to 2 intel-based machines (iMac and a MacBook) and Youtube videos are working perfectly. On my G5 however, only 2 seconds of silent video plays in both Safari 3.1 and Firefox 2 before it stops. The video downloads in the background - I can see this because I am monitoring network throughput and the video can be scrubbed along the red line, but not played.
I have uninstalled and re-installed Flash 9.0.115 (latest version) both PPC and Universal binary, but it makes no difference. I have reported to Youtube, but is anybody else getting this problem?

    I solved it.
For some unknown reason, my audio sample rate had been changed to 192000 kHz in Audio MIDI Settings. This apparently stops all Flash video working.
Sometimes, it's not the fact that the problem isn't documented on the www, it's knowing what to actually search for.

  • Non-flash youtube videos won't play on safari

Using the desktop version of youtube on safari - not the app.
The page loads, the screen is blank with the "Play" arrow button in the middle but then the video won't start/load/play. If I navigate away from the page, it will briefly show the first frame and then it disappears again. These are videos that were working absolutely fine up to last night with iOS 5. I have since done hard reset and installed iOS 5.0.1 but no luck. Any ideas what might be happening?
    Thanks in advance

Using the desktop version of youtube on safari - not the app.
Swipe left on your Home screen then type:  Youtube    in the search field.
The app looks like this >  It comes pre installed on the iPad so there's no way to delete it.
