Change Apple ID in Desktop Messages App

So is there no way to sign into the Desktop Messages app in Mountain Lion with another Apple ID other than your iCloud ID? I am one of the unfortunate ones who has two Apple IDs: one for iTunes and one for iCloud. I'd LOVE to merge them, but you can't. I want to use Messages to sync between iPhone and iPad, but can't sign out of the iCloud ID to use the iTunes ID (which is what the iPhone and iPad use).
Any help out there?

No actually, you can't.
You can add and delete AIM, Jabber and Google Talk accounts, but you can't edit which Apple ID you're logged into. The delete button is grey-ed out. And you can't edit the sign in name for the Apple ID.

  • HT5787 Change apple id for all purchased apps...

I want to change apple id in my iphone as my old apple ID's password is not working. Please help me. I want to change apple ID for all new and old purchases.

Have you tried logging out an back into that account on your phone (tap on it in Settings > iTunes & App Store), and/or tried getting the password reset for it : http://iforgot.apple.com (if you do get the password reset then you might need to logout and back into it) ?
If you create a new account then that will work for new purchases, but all of your existing downloads will remain tied to your old account, so only your old account will be able to redownload those purchases and/or download updates to its apps.

  • Change apple id and removing girlfriends apps

Just bought new i iphone4, brought home started setting up and synced it on my girlfriends computer.
I now have all her apps, and i want to delete them, because i cant update them or buy others because her apple id appears every time i try to update or install new ones. I have gone to settings and changed apple id over to mine, but this doesn't help on her apps in trying to update them.
I really just want to start fresh even if i lose all her apps so i can buy new ones with my apple id account.
    Please help

On your phone: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings. That should take but a minute or two & when finished, the phone will look just like it did when first taken out of the box. Plug it into your computer/iTunes account, name it what you want & sync your content to the phone. It's not permitted under the EUSLA for you to have your girlfriends content on your phone anyway. If you're gonna use the same computer, create a separate computer login for yourself. This will insure there is no chance your content/data is intermingled.

  • Changing Apple ID - what happens to apps?

We want to change our Apple ID on one of our devices - my boss is passing one of his iPads to his kids - to ensure that the apps are not synced between the bosses main device and the children's device.
What happens to the apps currently on the device? He bought some apps specifically for the kids using the shared ID, and he's wondering if he'll have to make another purchase.

Apps are always tied to the ID that was used to purchase them. If you change Apple ID's, you will have to purchase them again with the new ID.
The apps will remain on the iPad and you can continue to use them, but if you want to update them, you will have to use the old ID for that.
I don't know of that answers your question, because I don't get the correlation between what "we are changing an Apple ID on one of our devices" and "the boss is giving one of the iPads to his kids". I must be missing something in your explanation.

  • Changing apple id but keeping all apps from other id

    Hi,
I have sahred my apple id with two of my friends. They are using it on their iphones.
I am afraid that they are also getting the same apps that I download on my iphone.
So, I want to change apple Id on my iphone but I do not want to lose all the apps and data associated with my current id. I want all these apps to remain on my iphone . How can I do this?

If you change your Apple ID the apps you currently have can stay, but you will not be able to update them in the future.  Appls are permanently tied to the ID underwhich they were downloaded.
Simply make a new Apple ID, and then go down the apps in Settings and each one that uses an Apple ID has to have the ID changed.  Go to the Stores, App and iTumes, and click Apple ID > Sign Out of the stoes.  Then delete the current ID and put in the new one, and then Sign In to the stores with that ID.

  • Changing apple ID to update from Apps Store.

Trying to update my apps from App Store.  When asked to sign in, another  apple ID comes up (ID belongs to a person who borrowed my Mac).  It is greyed out and will not let me change it.  How do I change it?

The app that this person's Apple ID appears for is their app. You cannot update their app with your Apple ID. Having their app on your Mac is software piracy. Delete the app and buy it with your own Apple ID.

  • What happened to the images in the desktop Messages app?

Before Mavericks, images received via the messages app would appear in the Messages application window.  In Mavericks, however, the images are replaced by a generic JPEG icon.  In order to view the images, you have to click attorney magnifying glass to download them or select the individual message and invoke quicklook using the Spacebar.  Neither of these are convenient.  I've looked through the application preferences and the Window and View menu drop-downs hoping to find a toggle to return to the old method, but found nothing.
Does anyone know of a way to revert back so that images are visible in the Messages window as they were previous to Mavericks?

    Hi,
    Works for me.
Messages sent 2100 (BST) and Screen Grabbed in the same minute.
    Posted here soon after that.
However closing a  Chat/Conversation and reopening it does seem to reduce the file to a link to the File Transfer window.

  • Changed apple-id, now cant download apps

Hi, I've just recently changed my apple-id via the apple website (manage your apple-id) pages and the edit/change button next to your apple-id.
After I did the change I cant seem to download the updates or new apps from apple app store.
The message I get is that the apps arent approved by my apple-id, they are already connected to another apple-id and will be visible under the bought tab under that id.
The thing is, since Ive changed the apple-id I can no longer login to my old one that the apps are connected to.
I know that you cant create a new apple-id and hope to transfer everything over, but I thought that you could change it through the apple website.
Does anyone know what Im doing/done wrong?  is it supposed to work this way?
Thanks from an otherwise happy apple-lover,
    Nicklas

    Yeah Dah•veed
Thats exactly what I did, and my emailaddress/apple id is not one that ends with "
    @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com"
So I guess the term for it is changing the primary emailaddress for your apple-id ?
    Here's the deal, full story:
I bought a used Macbook Air for my sis the other week. She hasnt had any contact before with Macs or OSX.  She uses her iphone4s only with her apple-id. Im whiping the macbook air clean and reinstall the osx using apple recovery tool, everything all good (as usually with macs).. and setting the fresh install up with the same apple-id that she got on her iphone.
And when I try to download the apps that come free with osx mountain lion (iphoto, garageband and some other) I get the "These apps have already been approved for another apple-id and can be downloaded again using that apple-id/account"..   But, as Im writing this now, it strikes me :
Are those apps tied to the previous owner of the macbook air and his/her apple-id?   so that I cant download them using my/sis's apple-id ?   (allthough its a completely new user/owner with a new apple-id)
Back to the problem 1, I guess I've managed to change the primary email address/login for the apple-id,  but if the above question is true, that wont help me download the apps from appstore (iphoto, garageband and so on).  and I figgured that was because I did change the primary email it got messed up.
Sorry for the long reply, Im trying to go through this as thoroughly as I can.
    Thanks,
    Niklas

  • Change apple ID in iPhone for apps and iTunes

I put my old apple ID in my phone when I set it up. The approval email went to an email address that is no longer in use. Now I cant figure out how to change my apple ID in my phone to my new apple ID. I see how to change the iCloud apple ID but all of my apps and iTunes is still tied to my old one.

  • How to change apple id used with messages

I previously was linked to my moms apple id account and so all of our apple devices are linked. I recently created my own apple id to make our devices separate in apps like messages, iTunes, and iCloud. any help on how to make these completely separate is much appreciated.

    Hey ther Wienerle,
It sounds like you need to sign out of the Apple ID in the various services that is is signed into on your phone so you can use yours instead. You can   go to your Settings on your phone and sign out of these services that use an Apple ID.
Where can I use my Apple ID?
    App Store

  • HT204053 Changed Apple ID names and no Apps will not use those changes

    Hello
I was cleaning up a bunch of old history and renamed 4 of 5 apple accounts cleaning up family chaos over the last years.  Now my Apps updates ask for old Apple IDs and will not use renamed ones for same accounts or old passwords.  Please help.
    Thanks

I was cleaning up a bunch of old history and renamed 4 of 5 apple accounts cleaning up family chaos over the last years.
Please explain what that means. What was it that you actually did? It sounds more like you created new Apple IDs or something. What process did you use to change these names? Where did you find the instructions?

  • Does changing Apple ID affect TestFlight beta apps?

Basically I want to change my Apple ID email address (the main one) and I am also a beta tester for a few apps using TestFlight. I just want to know if changing my Apple ID would affect getting updates from those developers in the future or will it update on their end automatically?

Apple ID's can be used for anything, a single ID can be used for all your accounts (ie iCloud, iTunes, MAS, Apple community etc), ideally this would be the way forward. So far as iTunes goes you need to continue to use the same ID as you have always used or you will lose access to your previous purchases and your iTunes match subscription.
If you are using a second ID for iCloud, you can continue to do so or use the ID you use for iTunes, but if you choose the later you will need to move all your calendar, contact etc data to the account using the ID you use for iTunes.
When (if) you change which account you use you would delete the account on an iOS device and log back in with the correct details, on a mac you would sign out in the iCloud system preference pane.
