how to Change Computer Name in oracle10g application server whithout reinstall.

Hi,
You can use the chgiphost Script in your $ORACLE_HOME/chgip/scripts to change the Domain Name. You can have a look at your Application Server Documentation at this link for detailed instructions :-

  • Difficulty changing computer name and domain name

I have a working Xserve with the latest Snow Leopard Server and am having difficulty reconfiguring it from its keyboard.
I would like to edit the computer name and domain name and maintain all other server settings. I would prefer to do this off-line. However Server Admin appears not to work off-line and any attempt to change computer name or domain name removes all server settings from view including the serial number. I can recover everything by reinstating computer name etc and restarting on-line.
Is the serial number tied to the computer name and/or domain name?
Is there any way to retain my existing server settings for a different domain?
Is there any way to progress any of this off-line?

This has now been resolved. This note is to assist others who have the same problem.
1 - I had been changing the computer name in the place I had always done it - System Preferences/Sharing. This confused Server Admin. Reverting to the original name and changing computer name and location within Server Admin resolved the issue. That is System Preferences/Sharing is updated by Server Admin but not vice versa.
2 - Playing with these things can corrupt Server Admin plist resulting in a restarted Server Admin not seeing the edited server even with the server otherwise fully functioning. Trashing Server Admin plist resolved this for me without loss of server settings.
3 - Having set it up off-line I experienced difficulty as soon as I went on-line. This was resolved by changing the server from 'local' to its full domain name. I have no explanation for this as the same settings had previously worked with 'local'.
4 - Server Admin can take a long time to find settings and occasionally failed to do so until after a restart.
The result can be seen here: http://links.open.ac.uk/ - Since Apache refuse to provide hit counter support (there are several public posts of mine on the subject) I use JavaScript to retrieve the count from an old QPQ server running on a G3 with OS 9.

  • Is there a way to control the computer name that an application sees in 2012 Server (i.e. Terminal Server Compatibility flags)

I’m looking for the proper location to set the TS Program Compatibility Flags (for controlling application execution in execute mode) under 2012 server.
On Server 2003, we can use:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Terminal Server\Compatibility\Application\MYAPP
On Server 2008, we can use:
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Terminal Server\Compatibility\Applications\MYAPP
Is there a similar setting in 2012 Server?

I have an open question about this issue on the partner site, with no fix yet. Did any of you find the answer? I have a client who needs to have Server 2012 R2 report user name or the name of the computer accessing the RDS server.
They currently have a 2000 Terminal Server, and I always thought it was reporting user name to MAS 90, but when I looked recently, I found that it actually reports the name of the computer that is connecting to the terminal server, which also works fine.
MAS 90 just needs to see a different name for each connection.
These are the current entries on the 2000 terminal server, and they cause it to show remote computer name in MAS 90 fid0map.ini file:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Terminal Server\Compatibility\Applications\PVXWIN]
    "Flags"=dword:0000001f
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Terminal Server\Compatibility\Applications\PVXWIN32]
    "Flags"=dword:00000408
    Thank you for your help!

  • CAN'T Update Server name during login (since I have changed computer name)

I had a working environment of SAP BO 8.8 installation (VM), I made a second copy for a someone who needs to change his server name so we don't collide with each other.  So he changed his server name fine and now when we try to change the name during login in SAP BO, we are completely unable to do anything, no company or database shows up and when you try typing server name it won't allow you since it is a drop down, the only availble server name is the old server name.
We went to Service Manager, got a new license key for the hardware key, update fine as well as updating the server name there but when we try login, we are not able and no matter what we do we are not able to change the server name.  Please help, it is getting desperate (tried all things possible).
    Thanks

In working VM copy, do a global search for the server name in all configuration files in SAP install directory.  Then compare with copied copy and try to change appropriate names in all files.
Changing server name is a complex process, it has many references in many configuration files that you may have to touch.
This will be an uphill battle. Goodluck.
Lots of other things you can do, ping by hotname, check hostfile in case vm is also using it, there are two types of vm installs network or self contained (something like that) - so hostname may be getting masked by vm network environment, definitely SAP has few configuration files where the Server name, db name, license server name, port etc are present, even check for firewall settings etc.

  • Noob ? How change computer name

I've Googled my brains out and can't find the answer, and I did RTFM. But still can't figure out how to change the name in name column of the computer list.
When I add them the name appears as the IP address on some, as the full DNS name on some, and as the regular text name (e.g. Bill's Computer) on others. For the life of me, I can't find any way to change the one's with IP address to names.
    Anyone know how?

The ones with IP address are users that probably don't even know they can name their machine, much less where top do it.
Shouldn't the IT department be the ones who name the computers, so as to keep them conformed to a standard naming convention? Are the systems not installed from a master image, all preconfigured? Sounds like bad computer management.
Regardless, changing the DNS name in the ARD admin app can be done by right clicking on any client and choosing Get Info.
However this will not change the DNS entry for the computer on your DNS server.

  • Oracle XE on Windows 7 laptop. Changed computer name, now cannot connect

I run Oracle XE on my laptop with Windows 7. I just changed my computer name and rebooted. Now I cannot connect to the Oracle XE database at all. I found references to the old computer name in the listener.ora and tnsnames.ora files under C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\NETWORK\ADMIN.
Is there any other file I need to update in order for the change to work?
    Thanks!
    François

Is the database running? (check near the bottom of alert_xe.log, was the last startup OK ... )
Other than the updated host = <hostname> in listener.ora and TNS alias that should be all the updates that are needed, as long as your <hostname> resolves to the right TCP address, and a reverse lookup on the TCP address shows the new hostname, as a double check it try these in a command box (dunno about win7 if the nslookup is in the winnetworking or maybe something different? hosts?) ...
    $ ipconfig /all
    Host Name .. : <hostname>
    Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
    ... IP[v4?] Address: <your TCP/IP address>
    $ nslookup <hostname>
    ... <your TCP/IP address>
    $ nslookup <your TCP/IP address>
    ... <hostname>

  • 10.5.3 problem with changing computer name

Having an issue with computer naming after 10.5.3. Here is the issue:
    New Leopard install, fresh
Installed all updates, including the 10.5.3 update
Change the computer name in System Preferences\Sharing
The new name is reflected in Computer Name field
The new name is also reflected as the Local Hostname under Edit
    Rebooted the machine
Look at System Preferences\Sharing\Service and none of the services reflect the new computer name\local hostname, the old computer name is listed for each service
Click on the Edit button and deleted the Local Hostname, left it blank and clicked OK
Now the new Local Hostname is listed for each service
Open a Terminal window and the old computer name is listed at the prompt
    Reboot the machine
Open a Terminal window and the old computer name is listed at the prompt
Not being a Unix guru, I assume there may be a way to modify the computer name some other way than through the GUI. I sure hope so cause the new patch that was supposed to fix an issue with computer names appears to have created a new bug.

I'm posted an image of Aperture corruption, fresh this morning:
    http://lemon.soju.co.uk/2008/06/05/would-you-trust-your-photos-to-an-application -that-does-this/
    - New iMac 3.06GHz Dual Core, 4GB Memory, NVidia 512MB (received Sunday 1st June 2008)
    - 10.5.2 upgraded to 10.5.3, then Aperture 2.1 trial installed
    - First import of 40GB of photos, left to run overnight
    - When trying to use this morning, Aperture screens were corrupt and it refused to shut down. I had to power off then boot back into Mac OS X. When I restarted Aperture it worked, but it still seemed to have problems taking over the machine - eg, I wasn't able to send mail from Gmail within VMWare Fusion until I closed down Aperture. I never have problems with VMWare Fusion.

  • How can I change the logo of default application server

I am in 10g environment. Whenever I open my application in browser I see a splash screen "Oracle Application Server Form Services ...".
Can I change this splash screen with the my own.

    Yes, you can.
The GIF file must be under a directory where Oracle can read, like the %ORACLE_HOME%/Java directory. And you only specify the file name, not the full path.

  • How do i change netbios name in windows 2012 server

    sunit kumar

    Hi,
We can use the active directory rename tools to rename domain NetBIOS name. But it is a complex and risky process.
For more information about how to use random.exe to rename domain name, please refer to the following article:
    Rendom
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc732097.aspx
Besides, renaming of the NetBIOS domain name is not supported in any version of Exchange Server.
For more information about this, the following threads can be referred to.

  • Not able to change password in SAP WEB application server for BI 7 EHP 1.

    Hi all,
I'm currently upgrading from BW 3.5 to BI 7 EHP 1.
When logging to SAP WEB application server to execute a WEB report, it's not possible to change password. Even when a initial password has been set, the user are not forced or able to change it.
Also to logon dialogue is more like a Windows pop-up than the Web based in 3.5.
    Anyone having a clue?
    Best regards
    Kent

    Hi Eriki,
My problem is related to the WEB application server (WAS), not the Netweaver Portal.

  • How to change computer name in mountain lion

how to change the computer name in mountain lion -  the name is greyed out and the lock is unlocked. I am in the admin account.

    OK, check this one:
    /Library/Preferences/System/Configuration/preferences.plist
and see if it's locked. If not, try moving that file out to the desktop. You'll need to reset a number of preferences, but that seems to be where OS X 10.8 is keeping that setting now.

  • Change computer name

my mac book was originally bought by my brother, therefore the computer always says"John Maguire's Computer" is it possible to change this?
    Thanks

What you are referring to is the computer name, as opposed to account name, and this is changed in the Sharing System Preference.

  • Change Computer Name after first TC backup

Has anyone tried changing their Computer Name after the first TC backup. The sparse image created on the TC which contains the backup has the computer name as the first part of its name, presumably any change of computer name would have to automatically change the name of that sparse image. I would like to change the name of my iMac from the default but don't want to do this if I have to do a brand new full Time Machine backup afterwards.

I have changed the computer name (in System Pref: Sharing) of an iMac on our network after the initial backup to TC. There was no problem. This is due to the fact that TC uses the MAC address (also called Ethernet ID) to differentiate machines connected to it.
You can see your machine's MAC address in the advanced area of the Network SysPref under the Ethernet Tab. This number is also in the .sparsebunle idisc image created by TC.
Good luck with the name change.
