Change format: jpeg to jpg

I need to change the format of some photos from jpeg to jpg; not change the extension, but actually change the format.  It's for work and it has to be changed or it won't upload.

In computing, JPEG (/ˈdʒeɪpɛɡ/ jay-peg)[1] (seen most often with the .jpg or .jpeg filename extension) is a commonly used method of lossy compression for digital images, particularly for those images produced by digital photography. The degree of compression can be adjusted, allowing a selectable tradeoff between storage size and image quality. JPEG typically achieves 10:1 compression with little perceptible loss in image quality.
The most common filename extensions for files employing JPEG compression are .jpg and .jpeg, though .jpe, .jfif and .jif are also used. It is also possible for JPEG data to be embedded in other file types – TIFF encoded files often embed a JPEG image as a thumbnail of the main image; and MP3 files can contain a JPEG of cover art, in the ID3v2 tag.
Older DOS-based computers were designed to handle a maximum 3-character file extension which is why JPG was attributed to compressed image files. Modern operating systems can handle longer extensions.

Photos captured by the iPhone are saved in jpeg format. A screen capture is saved in png format.
There is no setting to change either one to be captured/saved in a different format.

When using iCloud to download them, you are going through the wrong procedure. That PNG file you are downloading is just the thumb nail. Open the image in the browser, then look to the menu at the top. you will see an icon that looks like a cloud with a downward pointing arrow. Click that to download the image.
Syncing with Windows I can't help you with. I don't directly sync my iOS devices.

Bridge is just a file browser.  It does not contain any photos inside the application itself.  Bridge will see and display your photos wherever you put them.
You cannot "transfer the edited images to Bridge".  That is wholly nonsensical.  Just use Bridge to navigate to your image files, wherever you put them.

  • Change a jpeg file

how can i change a jpeg document to a word document? or to a document which i can copy & paste?

Well, you can copy & paste JPGs just fine in Leopard, either within Finder or directly inside certain applications. The easiest thing is to just drag and drop the JPG into the application you want to put it in.
If you double-click a JPG on the Desktop, typically it should open in Preview. Once you're looking at it in Preview you can now just push command+c to Copy it to the Clipboard. From there, open the application you want to paste it into and push command+v to Paste the image.
Or, if it's a JPG that's on a website that you're looking at in Safari, just right-click the image and choose Copy Image. Again, this puts the image on the Clipboard, ready for you to Paste into whatever application you want.
If you want to turn a JPG into a PDF, rather than a Word document, just double-click it to open it in Preview, then push command+s to Save, and choose PDF from the list of Formats.

  • After renaming a file extention from .jpeg to .jpg I can no longer type ...

After renaming a file extention from .jpeg to .jpg I can no longer type in any of the finder related editable fields/boxes. I can still type in my open applications fields.
This problem also happens when I happen to find a file that has been named, for instance, 2008jpg. When I add the period to have the file read correctly as 2008.jpg, a warning box appears asking - {*Are you sure you want to change the extention from ".jpeg" to ".jpg"?* If you make this change, your document may open in a different application.} Two radio buttons are available within this warning box that read - 1 - {Use .jpg}(it is not color coded, which means it must be selected manually. - 2 - {Keep .jpeg}(it is colored w/my Blue highlight color, which means it will be selected if the Enter Key is used.
The warning box does Not appear if I remove the period from a file and not again when i re-add the period to that same file.
After trying to make these types of edits to the name of any file, with any of the various extentions available for files in our digital world, I usually get an anomaly where myability to type in the Finder ceases to be a possibility.
I have found that I can Force Quit the Finder for a quick fix, but, I'm not sure that this Typing problem should have to be dealt with at all by this quick fix. Is this an issue with the Indexing in Spotlight, which seems to be giving many users problems?

I downloaded and tried EasyFind. It works but it took 30+ seconds to complete finding 3 files that are on One of my Five 25+ Gb partitions of my 130 Gb Seagate Cuda(Really 160 Gb, but my Sawtooth will only recognize 130) I figured that if I ever got a better box, I could reformat it to see the whole 160 Gb. So, as far as I can see, Spotlight's indexing scheme which finds the files instantly is probably preferable. Spot light allows you to rename your files from within it's app window. I've always thought that was pretty powerful. Could my doing so be causing me any issues? As i said it is the inability to Type in the Finder that seemed to be caused from changing file Extentions that were mis-written. Maybe it was a delayed reaction to my renaming files in the Spotlight app? I've done both on occasion.
As for these .DS_Store files. Apparently you can NOT stop them from being written to any folder that you touch/open/view during a days session. But, as a function of the OS, are the essential to have in their respective folders Forever? I've looked at the .DS_Store terminator app briefly and assume that getting rid of these files won't hurt the regular operation of my OS. They will just be re-written if I ever have to go back to any particular folder again. But, apparently, some have said that if the plan on burning a CD or DVD of their data, they delete the .DS_Store files first and then do the burn.
I'm thinking from your having suggested this tremination app that you suspect that my having all of these ,DS_Store files could be a situation where any of them could have become corrupted and terminating them regularly should be part of my regular maintenance.
Does that sound like I'm understanding what I can do?
    TIA

I edit my RAW photos in Photoschop CS3, save as jpeg then import back into iPhoto 11.  If I add text in Photoshop I can't save as jpeg but as psd.  Is there any way I can change to jpeg in iPhoto?

Yes you can. But you need to flatten it as jpeg doesn't support layers.
While the final JPEG can't have layers, it is not necessary to flatten the original Photoshop file to create a JPEG. There are two ways to make a JPEG while not losing the flexibility of preserving layers, and they both flatten on the fly while saving.
I just tried this in Photoshop CS3 myself. When I add a text layer, and choose Save, the Save As dialog box comes up and defaults to PSD as was described. But... that is just the default! Go ahead and choose JPEG from the Format pop-up menu down below the file list. JPEG is in there. So what happens to the layers? Notice when you choose JPEG, the Layers box grays out and the "As A Copy" box grays out and is checked (i.e. you cannot uncheck it). What is going on here is Photoshop will gladly make a JPEG of your layered file, but it will force the JPEG to be a copy, so as to not overwrite the original layered file. This is good, because your Photoshop file with its editable text layer is preserved, and you get a JPEG copy to put in iPhoto.
The second way is, instead of doing Save or Save As, choose File/Save for Web and Devices. This will also give you a JPEG choice, and also create an exported copy. Because this way makes files for the Web, they will be smaller than JPEGs from Save As because they will lack built-in previews (which you don't really need these days) and other extra metadata that take up space.
Either way you get a JPEG you can toss back into iPhoto.

    Only by exporting.
The Export menu in Photoshop CS3 does not have any direct choices for JPEG.

  • E-mailed photo's change format

I use Safari w/ Comcast.net to do e-mail. I scanned a picture and "saved it as" in the .jpeg format to my desktop. I then went to e-mail and sent it to my brother in law who has a PC. When he tried to open the attachment in said it was a .DAT file and he could not open it. This same thing happened to two other people I sent the photo to. My question is how come it changes format and how do I stop it????

Good luck, I have been asking this question for a couple of weeks now. Safari changes my downloads to HTML. Nobody is good looking enough to give the answer. Maybe I will try another forum

  • How to change a video to jpg?

I mistakenly had the button on my Canon PowerShot A300 switched to video when I took four pictures. I didn't notice it until I uploaded the pictures into iPhoto 6. Is there any way I can change the images to jpg instead of mvi? I want to use the photos on my desktop, and they won't come up if they are mvi.
    Thanks,

My apologies. I just tried it myself, and even though I selected to export the jpeg, it still exported the complete video file. Weird. I have no idea why this is happening.
There is another way to get that still image, but you'll have to be very careful. iPhoto automatically creates a jpeg version of each video file for displaying in your library. If you right-click (control-click) on the thumbnail and select "Show File" a Finder window should open with the video file selected. Set the Finder window to Column view, and you can clearly trace its path in the iPhoto Library/ Originals folder. The jpeg of the first frame will be stored in an analogous location inside the iPhoto Library/ Modified folder. (Same Roll name, same file name, except for the .jpg extension). Locate the jpeg in the Modified folder, select it and do a File > Duplicate command. Move the copy to another location outside of the iPhoto Library.
I would be irresponsible if I failed to give you the standard warning about messing around inside the iPhoto Library folder. Warning: Be careful that you don't change any of the items inside there, or you can damage your database. Just select the file, duplicate it, and move the copy out. If you move the file that iPhoto knows about, you will have problems with your iPhoto Library.
    Regards.

  • RAW images  change to Jpegs when moved

When I move a folder of Raw files from iPhoto to Canon Image Browser or to a folder in Finder, they change to Jpegs. Is there a way to keep them as Raw CR2 Files when moved. Thanks for any help

No they don't. However it sounds like you're accessing the Jpeg previews that iphoto creates on import. So, how are you trying to "move a folder" of images? There are a couple of ways, depending on what you are trying to do.
    Processing Raw in iPhoto
When you import a Raw to iPhoto it automatically makes a jpeg Preview of the shot. Why? Because you can't do anything with Raw - can't print it, share it online, use it in other apps etc. So to allow you to use the file immediately the Preview is available.
You can, however, also process the Raw in iPhoto simply by editing it. The Raw processing engine in iPhoto the same one used in Aperture, but with less fine control. (Think of the differences between Word and TextEdit, iMovie and Final Cut). The output from the processing then replaces the preview. You can choose to save your output as either jpeg or tiff in the iPhoto Preferences.
When you are processing Raw in iPhoto you will see the Raw badge on the bottom of the iPhoto Window
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
Note: After you have processed a Raw, subsequent edits to the photo are carried out on the processed jpeg (or tiff) not the Raw. If you want to go back to the original then you need to use the Photos -> Reprocess Raw command.
Processing Raw in a 3rd Party Application
You can also process your Raw with a 3rd Party app like ACR or Photoshop. *But* iPhoto does not handle this gracefully and it's a bit of a kludge.
First off set your preferred app as an external editor in iPhoto:
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Note that iPhoto sends a copy+ of the file to Photoshop, so when you save be sure to use the Save command, not Save As... If you use Save As then you're creating a new file and iPhoto has no way of knowing about this new file. iPhoto is preserving your original anyway.
Next: In the iPhoto Preferences -> Advanced, elect to use Raw with your External editor:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
Now when you go to edit the Raw it will be sent to your external editor.
    Now for the kludge:
You cannot save a Raw. The work you do must be output to a new file, in a new format (jepg, tiff, whatever). However, as the External Editor is making this new file iPhoto has no knowledge of its existence. Therefore you *must save it to the desktop and then import it back to iPhoto as a new file*.
This means that you will have your Original Raw and the processed version in iPhoto but they will not be recognised as version and original. iPhoto will see them as two separate shots.
ANd, you can always access the Raws simply by exporting with the Kind set to Original

  • Problems downloading photos from my camera (Panasonic Lumix). Some will download and others will not with error message that they are the wrong format (jPeg)

Never had an issue before. Have installed latest software update and now only some of my photos will download. The rest will be recognized as a bad format (jPeg) and the camera will be ejected automatically, improperly, causing me to have to reboot the camera by removing the battery from the camera.

As a matter of fact. After giving my camera a complete charge, I have had
    no more problems
That is why a card reader is so useful. You do not have to wait for the camera to charge and avoid the kind of errors above.

So, i have bad news for you : you'll have to rebuild again.
Meanwhile i have excellent news for you : there's an online tool made by Johannes Henseler called Sidecar xml which builds the necessary xml file for you, sort of what you find in the Digital Publishing Folio Editor website, but saves it in your Folio folder.
Next time you import all your folder (with that file), it will place all the necessary information, and even reorder the articles.

  • How to change format of phone numbers in PowerShell?

We need to append the area code and hyphen in front of the office phone number field in their domain user account for all our users that have office phones now that we are changing from 7 digit numbers to 10 digit numbers.
I found a script that finds and edits phone numbers, but the author chose a different way to format the numbers.
This is the part of the script I need to change:
    # Format number as xxx xx xx xxx.
            $Phone = '{0}
    {1} {2} {3}' -f$Phone.Substring(0,3),$Phone.Substring(3,2),$Phone.Substring(5,2),$Phone.Substring(7,3)
I'm trying to figure out how to edit that so that it formats it as xxx-xxx-xxxx
(3 digit area code, hyphen, 3 digit prefix, hyphen, four digit number) instead of xxx xx xx xxx.
Can someone show how to rewrite this section?

    The modified script:
    # This format number as xxx-xxx-xxxx.
    $Phone = '{0}-{1}-{2}' -f $Phone.Substring(0,3),$Phone.Substring(3,3),$Phone.Substring(6,4)
    Hope this helps.
