Change Keyboard Layout, But Keep Language

I have a MacBook with USA keyboard layout.
While installing, by mistake i selected Latin American keyboard.
Now, i want my language to still be "Spanish/Argentina", but they keyboard layout should be USA.
How can i do that? Note that I don't want to have many input keyboards and then have to switch between latin and english language.

I don't see an option to change "keyboard layout" only.
Do you really not see the Tab called Input Menu under system preferences/international? There are boxes to check for keyboard layouts, and one is called US.
Another Tab is called Language, and there you can put Spanish (actually Español) at the top to keep your OS in Spanish.
Another Tab, in the middle, is called Formats.
PS If you want to type Spanish with the US layout, you can use the Option/Alt key shortcuts. A list can be found here:

  • Changing keyboard layout per user

    Hello together,
On my Laptop the default keyboard layout for X is US-INTL. That"s what I am using.
Sometimes my friends are using my Laptop, for them I have a seperate user account.
But they would prefer using the germen (de) keyboard layout.
Can I somehow change the keyboad layout during login (using a command in .xsession for example)?
    Thansk!
    Nathan

    Thanks for your reply!
    That would work.
But I want to use XDM for login.
I found xmodmap for changing keyboard layout.
    But
    xmodmap /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/de
    does not work.
I guess xmodmap needs another filetype.

  • Changing Keyboard on selection of Language Programatically

    Hello All,
Sub: Changing Keyboard on selection of Language Programatically.
    Note: Correction to earlier post
Here we had a requirement on change keyboard on language selection, There is a list of languages in a dropdown based on the selection of any language we need to change the keyboard language (Key Pad).
Eg, Suppose I have selected Arabic Language then we can simply type arabic language without any keyboard selections (settings).
Is it possible in iPhone programatically?
    Thanks in advance

  • MS Word shows only US keyboard layout althought other languages are working

    hello all,
i have the following problem and i hope someone can help...
on my iMac G5 (where I have MS Office 2004 installed) i use the following four languages: US English, Russian, Czech, German. When I type something in Russian in Word i can use the littel on-screen keyboard (don't know what the name of that thing is in English) to find the right cyrillic characters etc. This works perfectly in every programme and for every language.
On my MacBook (where I have MS Office 2004 installed, too), however, I have the same four languages and I can use them all in Word but the little on-screen keyboard shows me only the US keyboard layout, no matter what language input I have chosen. This happens only in Word, not in any other programmes.
This means that on my MacBook I can use e.g. Spotlight, type something in Cyrillic and use the on-screen keyboard (which shows me the cyrillic keyboard).
In Word, however, I can type in Russian, but whenever I want to have a look at the on-screen keyboard it only shows me the US keyboard. (The same happens when I am typing in German or Czech and want to have a look at the corresponding keyboard - all I get is the US keyboard layout)
I spent hours on the net and changing the country settings - they are exactly as they are on my iMac - but to no avail ...
Any ideas how to get rid of that problem??
    Thanks!

Thanks Tom for the link, I found the answer there - it confirmed my suspicions: it is because of Rosetta.

  • Can't change keyboard layout

I've bought my new Macbook when i traveled to US, though i live in Brazil. I just want my keyboard to have a brazilian layout, with the special characters, and stuff. I've already tried to go to International > Input Menu, and change its configuration, but even though the brazilian flag appears on my right-upper side of the screen, it doesn't change the keyboard layout at all!
I've set my Mac OS X Leo to be fully in English, 'cause i thought it wouldn't be a problem changing the layout. I don't want the whole software in portuguese, 'cause it really doesn't looks good. Some words are forgotten and other weird things happen. And I don't want the US layout keyboard all the time, 'cause i need to write some stuff in portuguese too.
Anyone has any sugestions? Anything to do with the initial setup?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Changing keyboard layouts, the difficult way. Japanese layout into Dvorak.

    Hello,
I was wondering if there is a way to change the keyboard layout systemwise.
The thing is I usually use a keyboard layout that is very similar to dvorak, of course I have a working layout for this and that's what I'm using right now.
But now and then, I need to write some japanese as well. What I would like to do is to remap the japanese layout into a dvorak table and still be able to get the shift-jis input.
In windows it was possible to go into regedit and just change a string and voila you did it. Is there any similiar way in doing it in OSX?

On a sidenote, the keyboard layout I'm using is downloaded off the internet and then installed, so I'm guessing the layouts that you can choose from are sort of pre-set.
I have a couple downloaded layouts listed in mine, so I don't think these are pre-set. But I think they must be Roman (script) and perhaps must be installed in Home/Library/Keyboard Layouts. If you would like to send me your layout, I can see if there is a problem with it (tom at bluesky dot org).

  • Changing keyboard layout

after upgrading to snow leopard, I'm unable to change my keyboard layout back to us-international.
it's set to Brazilian, but my is us-international.
my problem is that I could not un-mark Brazilian, like it's not an option
    thanks in advance

make sure that you check the us international first before trying to unmark brazilian. it needs to have at least one layout marked at all times.

  • Changing keyboard layout don't work

    Hello,
I've messed around with my father's iBook for a month to see how it could be used.
He received it with a French keyboard, I'm used to using a Swiss-French keyboard or a Scandinavian keyboard. At one moment I could change between these three keyboards. But now even if I change (up right) it always stays as a French AZERTY keyboard. This is really inconvenient as since we've changed the physical keyboard to a Swiss-French one.
The only "weird" software I've installed are SheepShaver and iEmulator.
Any ideas or must I do a reinstall?
On Windows I'm used to adapting the keyboard definitions with some specialised software, is this possible in OSX?
    Thanx for your help,
    Eric

Have you tried going to system prefs/international/input menu and unchecking all the boxes and checking just the one you want and rebooting to see if it will stick?
Do you have the problem with all apps? I think some versions of MS Word can have this issue.

  • Unable to change keyboard layout for all users on Windows Server 2012 R2

    Hi,
I have a requirement where I need to support national keyboard layout for Danish for all users on that machine. When I ran the powershell with script Set-WinUserLanguageList
-LanguageList da-DK it only sets the Danish keyboard layout to the specific logged in user. However the for other users its same English(US) keyboard which is not expected.
Please help me how to set the Danish keyboard for all users on the machine. Its Urgent! Thanks

    Hi Mike,
    Thanks for reply.
But I need to configure everything using powershell script. Is it possible to use powershell script to setting group policy/ adding logon script ?
These are pretty basic administration tasks and almost always quicker to accomplish with the GUI. Why do you want to use a PowerShell script?
EDIT: Here's some information on the topic however:

  • Change TV plan but keep same internet

I have bundled FIOS TV and internet (Prime HD and 25/25, no phone) and would like to upgrade my TV but keep the same internet.  Is that possible?  In the upgrade center I'm not offered this option; I can keep the same TV plan and go up or down on my internet speed, but I can't change my TV plan and keep the same internet speed.
Is this on purpose or is it some kind of site glitch? Why can't I do this?

I am sorry, but Verizon no longer offers the 25/25 plan. We will still honor it as you currently have it and you will keep the 25/25 speeds as long as you don't make changes. If you do want to modify your bundle plan, you would have to change it to whatever bundle plans we currently offer.

  • Change book size but keep layout

I am halfway through creating a 6 X 8 book, including a couple of pages I custom designed. I just noticed that this book size is available only in softcover, but I think I may want a hardcover book. I tried duplicating the book, then changing the duplicated book to the 8.5 X 11 hardcover size, but Aperture applies the "default" book layout and re-flows all my pictures! (I am glad I duplicated the book first, or a guess I would have lost everything.)
Is there any way to tell Aperture that I want to maintain the same basic page layout (e.g., if page 3 has 4 horizontal photos, then I want page 3 in the new layout to have those same 4 photos, horizontal)? I know I may have to go through and do some general fixing up, but I would like to avoid aving to re-do the entire thing.

As you've seen, your personalized layout won't transfer. The book will need to be redesigned using the new theme.

    Did you disable input hotplugging?
    Section "ServerFlags"
    Option "AutoAddDevices" "False"
    EndSection
The wiki says you need to disable it.
Did that but my input devices won't work , such as the mouse
Edit: Does it work if you change it manually:
    setxkbmap <xkb_layout>
Yes it works fine manually . Although i wouldn't mind using this to change the language i would like the default one to be gb instead of us . How i do that?
