Change Open File Work and Home Directories

Is it possible to change the Open File Work and Home Directories (buttons on the left)?

FWIW, I'd love to see this too. It'd be quite useful in other products as well.. ;)
It is actually possible to programmatically extend the list of shortcuts in this dialog, so someone could in theory write an extension for SQL Developer to add support for user customizable buttons. Seems like a nice project if someone is bored ;)
The API in question is:
oracle.ide.dialogs.DialogUtil.registerShortcutButton( Icon, String, URL )
Thanks,
Brian
(updated to point to the correct API...)

  • How do I change the default work and home addresses?

I am using iCal 8.0 with Yosemite 10.10.1. I moved a month ago and cannot figure out how to change the default "home" address in the program. The same is true on my iPhone. I updated my address in Contacts to no avail. I am having the same problem on my iPhone. It also struggles with my work address: I work at number 80 on my street, in suite 7C, and iCal interprets the data as 7C (Street), showing me on the map several blocks below my actual office.
Any help with these problems would be most appreciated.

  • What are best practices for managing my iphone from both work and home computers?

What are best practices for managing my iphone from both work and home computers?

    Sync iPod/iPad/iPhone with two computers
Although it isn't possible to sync an Apple device with two different libraries it is possible to sync with the same logical library from multiple computers. Each library has an internal ID and when iTunes connects to your iPod/iPad/iPhone it compares the local ID with the one the device normally syncs with. If they are the same you can go ahead and sync...
I have my library cloned to a small 1Tb USB drive which I can take between home & work. At either location I use SyncToy 2.1 to update the local copy with the external drive. Mac users should be able to find similar tools. I can open either of the local libraries or the one on the external drive and update the media content of my iPhone. The slight exception is Photos which normally connects to a specific folder on a specific machine, although that can easily be remapped to the current library if you create a "Photos" folder inside the iTunes Media folder so that syncing the iTunes folders keeps this up to date as well. I periodically sweep my library for new files & orphans withiTunes Folder Watch just in case I make changes at one location but then overwrite the library with a newer copy from the other. Again Mac users should be able to find similar tools.
As long as your media is organised within an iTunes Music or Tunes Media folder, in turn held inside the main iTunes folder that has your library files (whether or not you let iTunes keep the media folder organised) each library can access items at the same relative path from the library folder so the library can be at different drives/paths on different machines. This solution ensures I always have adequate backups of my library and I can update my devices whenever I can connect to the same build of iTunes.
When working with an iPhone earlier builds of iTunes would remove any file not physically present in the local library, even if there was an entry for it, making manual management practically redundant on the iPhone. This behaviour has been changed but it will still only permit manual management with a library that has the correct internal ID. If you don't want to sync your library between machines on a regular basis just copy the iTunes Library.itl file from the current "home" machine to any other you want to use, then clean out the library entires and import the local content you have on that box.

  • Working: moving between work and home

I am in the process of writing my PhD thesis and I hate lugging my macbook pro home every night. What would you recommend as the optimal setup so that I can transfer data between work and home with minimal things to take back and forth? Thanks!

Do you have another Mac at home? If so, you may want to consider using Time Capsule as a Base Station and MobileMe. According to http://www.apple.com/timecapsule/wireless.html
Access your drive over the Internet.
Say you’re traveling and you need a file on your Time Capsule back at home. If you’re a MobileMe member using a Mac with Mac OS X Leopard or Snow Leopard, no problem. You can access all the files on your Time Capsule drive over the Internet. Simply register your Time Capsule with your MobileMe account, and its drive appears in the Finder sidebar of your Mac just like any other attached drive. It’s like having your own personal file server wherever you go.
This sound great but this had lead me to post the following "MBP, Time Machine / Capsule as a Base Station, MobileMe, and PGP? " (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2621954&tstart=0)
If that question gets solved and is a route you might consider, then it would be good to be aware of "How to do a full system restore from encrypted Time Machine volume" (http://forum.pgp.com/t5/PGP-Whole-Disk-Encryption-for/How-to-do-a-full-system-re store-from-encrypted-Time-Machine/m-p/26837). This is not an immediately intuitive process, but the folks here seem to have it worked out.
Optionally, if you did not want to bother with MobileMe, I think you can just use Time Capsule through a rather speedy Ethernet connection to your Mac at work. Addtionally, you can add additional drives to TM, if you require more data redundancy.
I am guessing that it might be worthwhile to have multiple backups of a PhD thesis, with backups in more than one physical location. So, if this looks appealing and it actually works for your requirements, then you could likely have choice to:
    1) Just access work from other Mac via MobileMe
    2) Take TM home every night
    3) Take attached drive to TM home every night

  • ITunes at work and home

I authorized Itunes at work and home. I am trying to sync to my iphone.
The issue is I bought 5 songs from home and synced them fine. Then I came to work and bought 3 more songs and when I went to sync the iphone again it said it had to erase all my iphone content and then sync the songs.
Why can't it just add the 3 songs to my 5 songs and not delete the whole thing? Then I'll just be left with the 3 songs from work even though I bought 8.
    Iphone 1.0   Windows XP Pro

The iPhone does not support manual synchronization. Use a hard or flash disk to transfer the files from one computer to the other, or if that isn't an option, use a service such as email or web storage to transfer them.

  • Work and home locations wrong in calendar?

I am using calendar in Yosemite.
When I enter a location for a calendar event, you can set travel time. It either uses the location of your previous event, or your home or work address in your contact info, based on what time of day it is.
Until today I had no problems. Now it seems however that calendar changes the locations of work and home. It picks locations quite near the destination at random, but per event. So the start-location changes per destination, but remains the same for that destination if it reappears on later dates. In the contacts app, both work and home addresses are filled in correctly.
Anyway, this causes travel times to be way of and therefore notifications can be timed wrong also. And instead of getting the right route when I quickly on my phone I have to change the start address which is a hassle.
    Anybody else seen this behavior?

I have the exact same problem. When selecting "Home" as the location for an event on Calendar, it suggests the correct home address (as it listed in my contacts). As soon as I choose this, though, it swaps the address to one near to my home - the same house number, and a similar street name and postcode, but clearly not my home address.
So yes, I'm seeing basically the same behaviour that you are...I just wish I had a way of resolving it!

  • Taking my mail back-and-forth between work and home?

    Thanks.

    yes, that's correct.
com.apple.mail.plist does not seem to exist on my mac?
make sure you are looking in the right place. It's Library/Preferences in your home folder not at the root level of your hard drive.
If you are using Mail, the file is definitely there.

Had the same problem this morning after updating to 10.8.2. Mail was finding my dot-mac account as always, but System Preferences popped up and said my iCloud password was incorrect. Did the "forgot password" reset, but still had the same problem. Then I went to icloud.com in Safari, logged in with the new password, it worked no problem. So I went back to the icloud preference pane, signed out of icloud, answered yes to all the warnings about data being deleted from my mac, blah blah blah, then re-signed in to icloud. Everything worked. I did have to set up my icloud account in Mail again, which now lists the account mailbox as "iCloud", and not "mac.com" as it did before. But so far, everything is working (fingers crossed.)

  • Two iCloud accounts for work and home?

On my iPad2, I have a home email account and a work email account and work calendar.  If I set up a second (work) user account on the family iMac, can I have two iCloud accounts to keep work and home separate? I would like to share  pictures, home emails, etc with my wife's iPad and iPhone, but not share the work email and work calendar.   Will I be able to have both iCloud accounts share with my iPhone 4s and iPad? For now, I am using a google calendar for work on the iPad2 and sync it to Google.

That's not a problem, you can create a second account from system preferences > mail, contacts and calendars, click on the small plus icon in the bottom left corner, choose iCloud from the list of options, click on the 'create Apple ID' button and follow the rest of the instructions.
Note however, a secondary account has all the features of a primary account apart from photos stream and Back to My Mac, only your primary account can use these features.

When using an application (photoshop for example) and open a file - It starts me off on the desktop, I navigate to the folder that contains my file (HD/files/fresh) and open the file.
    NOW...
If I hit apple-o, to open another file it starts me off at the desktop! NOT where I just was?! I'm working on machine that used to belong to someone else, and not sure if they changed something to make it work like this.
    Any ideas?

Try dragging the 'com.apple.finder.plist' file to your desktop and restart.

  • Can not login after changing account short name and home directory

    Hi,
I did sth rather stupid while trying a get timemachine working on my iMac 10.5.5.
I changed the short name, login shell and home directory of my account. (didn't listen to the waning that I may not be able to login if I change those information Now I can not log into my account anymore. I tried to use fileVault master password to change the password of my account, but it didn't help. Can anyone tell me how do I fix this problem?
    Thanks a lot!

No, I still can not log in as that user.
I did as you advised, but it gave the following message:
"attache failed, no such file or directory"
then I suspect you may be entering the command incorrectly. another possibility is this. I noticed you said in one of the previous posts that if you cd into the main user home directory you only see user.sparseimage. It actually should be user.sparsebundle. Or have you upgraded to leopard from tiger with filevault turned on? then it could have remained sparseimage rather than sparsebundle.
    run the following in terminal
    sudo ls -la /users/username
    and post the results.
does it list sparsebundle or sparseimage?
Another thing, when I typed in the command, it didn't take the admin (root) password, but the password of the account I was logged in got me through.
that's what it has to be. it takes the password of the user (it jhas to be an admin user) which is currently logged in.
I am wondering if I can recover the problem user's files from the sparseimage file, then copied all the files to a new user.
