Change Portal desktop dynamically

Hello Praveen,
This message is reference to the thread "Change Portal Desktop Based on Role" . If you remeber initially I could not able to find the setRuntimeDesktop method.
Now I am running my code in SP14 (different environment) its working fine.
IVIEW preview is working fine and setRuntimeDesktop() also setting the desktop at runtime. Could you please tell me where should I place this IView and where to subscribe event to run this IVIEW
that can change the desktop only at TLN event but not for sub nodes (detail navigation).

Can I suggest you run http trace and inspect the logs as this will identify what code is fired when you fire events in the page.
It is difficuilt for me to assist you because I cannot see the way the code is being executed.
Further to the portal content area (com.sap.portal.contentarea). If you see the following docs try set the target to reference the content area defiend in your framework page (you may be using a custom framework page). You should be in a position to query the object name defined for the content area defined in your framework page.

Conceptually the principals are the same I believe.

Just another thought:
Check if you need to "wait" for the content area to load before applying the event - the iView needs to serve the content within before the them is applied. Check the iview attributes too, if they are cached then the content area will not be updated till the next refresh potentially

Portal Desktop & Display Rules - Not able to see the changes made.

Hi All,
I had created a new theme for the portal. I had also created the rule for the new desktop with the IF & THEN condition.
IF user = KT1137
THEN portal desktop = pcd....(full path)
after that, when I am logging into the portal with the above given id, I am not able to view the changes.
what could be the possible reason? Thanks.

Hi,
Make sure that there are no
if *
then
conditions above your if condition.
so that, your rule should look like this:
if user=your user
then desktop=your desktop
if user=*
then desktop=...;

Access to portal desktop denied through gateway

I'm trying to get the gateway component to configured and working. I've installed gateway on a separate box from my portal server. When I go to the gateway url (using either https or http) I get prompted to login. Once I submit my user credentials, I get this message:
Access to this resource is denied !!
Contact your administrator
If I enter incorrect user credentials, I get an authentication failed, as expected. So authentication is working, but for some reason, I just can't get to the portal desktop! I ensured that my user account has the Access List service. And I haven't changed any URL allow/deny lists from whatever the default templates were, they still allow *.
Any ideas?

Runtime error while creating a Portal Desktop

Hello *,
I want to create a New Portal Desktop in System Administration > Portal display > Desktops & Display Rules (EP7 SP14).
The Portal Content editor is correctly showed when I create de Desktop in the Portal Content folder, BUT, a run time error is showed when I try to do the same under a "New Folder" under the Portal Content Folder.
I am working with Administrator user and the permissions have been defined as follows:
Portal Content
content_admin_role Full Control End User Role Assigner
Everyone Read End User Role Assigner
super_admin_role Owner User Role Assigner
system_admin_role Owner User Role Assigner
New Folder
content_admin_role Full Control End User Role Assigner

What do you mean by a prefix here?
For me the theme implementation is not working either way
- I am not able to create a new desktop (some SAP Error)
- Copying the default desktop into my folder and doing the required changes there.
changed the name/id/theme/default framework page
but when i apply it to a user, doesnt show up.

Customization of New Portal Desktop Framework

My requirement is customization of Default Framework Page based on client specifications and i need to assign that new Desktop Framework page to only end users not for all the users.
The Below steps i did,
I copied the default framework page into my own folder in Content Administration and then i did few changes after that i went to System Admin Role and i added my Own Framework page to Portal Desktop, after that i went to master rule collection in Super Admin role here i created the one rule and i am applying the my own frame work page to user using If USER = XXXX THEN Portal Desktop = XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX, after that when i am clicking on APPLY button i am getting below error ERROR_DESKTOP_NOT_FOUND
If any thing i did mistake please let me know, if any one knows step by step solution please help me on this one.

Displaying Date and Time in portal desktop

Hi
I have been looking around for any info or guideline to display the <b>date and time</b> in the portal desktop. I could not find anything very helpfull. In visual admin you can swap lastname and firtsname and vice versa. Thou there is nothing about displaying date and time.
Is it possible to display it and how?

Where u need the time to be displayed.. If it has to be displayed in Masterhead you can programatically display it...
import the par file for Masterhead, change it and replace it..
Its a simple JSP page so that u can change it easliy..

Bookmarks channel in the sample portal desktop

I've installed the sample portal and created a new organization that uses the sample portal layout. I'm trying to figure out how to add new bookmarks so that any users in my organization get the new bookmarks by default and don't have to add them manually.
I thought I had already added the new bookmarks but when I log in as a user in my new organization, the new bookmarks do not show up in the Bookmarks channel.
I must be missing something... here's what I did:
1) logged in as amadmin
2) selected Identity Management tab
3) selected View: Organizations
4) clicked on the organization name
5) selected View: Services
6) clicked show properties for "Portal Desktop"
7) clicked "Manage Channels and Containers"
8) clicked "Edit Properties" for the Bookmark channel
9) clicked on "targets"
10) clicked "New..." and added two new bookmarks
11) clicked save
When I log in as a member of this organization, I don't see the two new bookmarks.

It turns out that steps 9 and 10 were incorrect. The fix is to modify steps 9 and 10 to:
9) Click Client=HTML link, then click "targets"
10) Click new, and change the type from string to un-named string (add the rest of the new entry)

Error when accessing Portal desktop

Hi All,
I've created a custom portal desktop which is working fine in our Dev system.
I exported the content, theme, desktop etc fine last week into our QA box but now I have an issue. When I use a user without the Super_Admin role, I get the following message (I have changed the actual desktop name below - its NOT the default desktop I am having prolems with...) -
"Error occurred while trying to access desktop: "portal_content/com.sap.pct/every_user/general/com.sap.portal.defaultDesktop". The object does not exist or you are not authorized to access it. If this problem persists, contact your system administrator."
Now, I have been through the SDN forums and looked for this issue. I've looked at notes 869690 and 856865 as well as many of the threads on this but nothing has resolved the issue.
I have gone into the PCD and set all of the directories that are relevant to allow the Everyone group READ access. The users that I am testing are members of that group and have roles that should allow them to see the desktop fine - they work within Dev without issue and all permissions seem the same.
To recap, I've checked permissions in the PCD, the Main Rules are ok, the desktop exists and has the correct permissions and I have a rule assigned to the users and groups. My Dev desktop works but my QA one doesn't.
Does anyone else have experience of this issue? or perhaps even an answer?

However no luck. Still having a problem and our QA testing starts on Monday.

Retrieve portal url dynamically.

Hi,
Could anybody pls let us know how to identify the portal Url dynamically using a function module or SAP Table?
We want to put this URL in the notification e-mail so it is dynamic when the object is moved to Quality and production systems.

One way to make Portal URL dynamic is to create a ztable with fields ABAP system id and portal URL.
Select Portal URL from this table based on the sy-sysid.
By this way you dont have to change your code. Just change table entry on each server.

I am not too sure what your question means .If you want to change fields dynamically then screen-variants are
a good way to do it.
If you want to change the entire structure itself for the same ROLE then you can try a viewswitch which combines several tab pages .
More details about this is available ib the PCUI cookbook.
(Implementing People-Centric User Interfaces with Business Server Pages and SAP Enterprise Portal).
An extract is given below -
To minimize the number of tabstrips, a so-called viewswitch is offered. This means that within one tab, multiple views are available and can be selected from a dropdown list in the toolbar. This viewswitch works in the same way as the tabs on a lower level. A viewswitch should be used for similar content, for example: Instead of using the three tabs Competitor Address, Competitor Products and Competitor Strategy, they can be combined to one viewswitch OPP_Competitor with the fields address, products, and strategy in the dropdown list box in the toolbar. The dropdown list box only appears if the viewswitch tab is active. To build a viewswitch, several tabs have to be combined to a viewswitch group.

Changing Portal Display

I am trying to customize the standard portal desktop. I need to make some changes in the portal masthead like changing the logo, branding image etc. As we don't have NWDS installed I am trying to do it through Theme Editor.
I followed the below process:
1. Created new Portal theme, In that uploaded a new logo and branding image and saved it.
2. Created a new desktop image and added the theme and a copy of the default frame work page to it.
3. Created a display rule and assigned the desktop to it.
After following the above process , I am still seeing the standard portal theme.Do I have to do anything else besides the above process?Can someone help me with this.

Hi p576277,
The process steps you have followed are correct.
As Praveen said the simple mistake everyone does(even I did the first time ) was adding the IF statement after the defaultDesktop IF Statement.
IF User = * should be given after the custom IF statement for your desktop.
The problem is .. If the Statement USER=* appears then It wont process anyother IF statements . Hence All Custom IF statements should appear before the default if Statement. Click the IF statement and use the MOVE UP and MOVE DOWN buttons for moving the IF Statments.
Atlast..your expression should appear like:
IF User = <youruser>
Then Portal Desktop = CustomDesktop
IF User = *
Then Portal Desktop = DefaultDesktop

Sun Java Enterprise Portal Desktop creation from scratch

Please see below our request.
1.     What I need?
We are expert in J2EE and relative technologies. We just want a support which helps them to move in a right direction to adopt and excel with SUN JES. Basically, this document expects a guidance to show right direction in creating SUN JES Desktop. Below are the bullet points which try to explain the actual expectation from the response documentation:
     Sun JES Desktop: We require hands on documentation which would assist us in creating a desktop from scratch. This documentation should unveil step by step demonstration of Sun portal desktop creation. The document can assume that all the components with SUN JES are already been installed with default sample desktops.
     Replica of existing Directory server to new Directory server: We would like to understand the procedure involve in creating a replica of existing directory server. We have already exported LDIF file from the existing directory server. But when we are importing it to the directory server installed at our local machine, it is prompting us with an error message that schema for the importing content not available. This suggests that we have not created schema at our local machine. Therefore, we would require an assistance to export all the content from an existing directory server to new directory server along with the schema.
     Change Deployment: It should explain all the required steps involved for re-deployment of the content available with the portal. In other words, if there is a change made in the content of the portal (any JSP, JAR or configurable file) then what are the steps required to re-deploy and reflect the changes on portal?
2.     Current Status
2.1.     SUN JES Installation and Configuration
We are through with initial setup of SUN JES. We have installed entire required component on our local machine (Windows XP) with default configuration for sample desktop which includes:
     Sun Application server
     Sun Directory server
     Sun Access Manager
     Sun Portal server (Instance created in web server)
     Sun Instant messaging
     Sun Web server
The setup also includes configuration of sample portal (myPortal) which has some desktops already created like enterprise, developer and community desktop.
2.2.     Component understanding
We have gone through almost all the documents available under SUN documents. But we felt those were rather high level understanding documents. We have basic understanding of the all the components which come up with SUN JES.
3.     Desktop Example
As we are very new to the SUN JES, we expect something which is very basic to understand. In other words, when we start with any Java or programming language, we use to have Hello World short of program. Similarly, we expect a very simple desktop which just assist in learning steps involved in creation of desktop from scratch. Here, we can assume that all the required components are already being installed and running. Let us take an example:
Suppose we have 4-5 users who belong to different groups. These groups have some defined policies (Something that we use to create with access manager). On the basis of the groups, they are allowed to access the sites available with the portal.
User - A, B, C, D
Group I, II
User-Group Mapping
A, D -> I
B, C -> II
Desktop contents:
Page displaying URL for google.com and myhcl.in
Group I On click of google.com, it should display the page in channel. Whereas, on the click of myhcl.in, it should display a message, quoting You are not authorized to view this page.
Group II - On click of myhcl.in, it should display the page in channel. Whereas, on the click of google.com, it should display a message, quoting You are not authorized to view this page.
Again, in all we just require a very basic desktop, which helps us in understanding the procedure involve in creating a SUN portal desktop. We think that this exercise would cover and help us in understanding all the nitty-gritty involved for learning SUN JES. Please feel free to add anything which you think will help us in learning SUN portal.

I am not sure how much you are comfortable with profile creation for the different users.
while user provisioning, if you are aware of kind of user and can assign the profile then this could be easily done.
what if you don't show the link for unauthorised user instead of showing message that "You are not authorised....."
create two different profile with two different channel having links and assign appropriate profile to the users.

Several Portal Desktops

Good Morning :
We have an (EP) intranet and a (EP) website and we are going to develop an extranet only for external stakeholders, so we have developed a custom login in the website and it works, but we would like to disable intranet users to access using this login.
We were doing some changes using the Portal Display Rules Editor, but We didn't had the expected results.
It is possible to do that?
By Internet, enable only one role(or group) to have access to one "portal display" and
disable others to have access to the portal even if they have roles and another portal display assigned.
We have mapped the LDAP users to the UME.

I discover that my real problem is when I change my "Default Portal Desktop" (copied to my user folder called extranet) to use another Portal Framework.
Only super_admin_role has the owner permission to access to my Portal Desktop, so when you try to access the portal with the user XXXTEST shows the following the message:
"Error occurred while trying to access desktop: "portal_content/COLPExtranet/Extranet". The object does not exist or you are not authorized to access it. If this problem persists, contact your system administrator"
That is OK, because the user does'nt have permissions to use my Portal Desktop.
But when I change the Portal Framework related to the Portal Desktop, the user XXXTEST can access the Portal Desktop. I didn't change the permissions to see the Portal Desktop.
Have you seen that problem in EP?.

Does the mobile design change when you change the desktop design?

Does anyone know if there's a way to set things up so changes to the text in the desktop design are reflected in the mobile designs? If I make changes to the text in the Desktop version of the site design, is there a way I can have those changes happen automatically (dynamically) in the Tablet and Mobile versions?

It would also help to know what fraction of text copy is identical across renditions (desktop/tablet/mobile).
