Change SMTP port to 587 doesn't work

Hi,
my ISP blocks port 25, ok and no problem - not for the iphone.
When i change port 25 to 587 it checks the config - works.
After i gone back in the menu the account list, to save the settings, (still in the settings) and go again to the SMTP settings, port 587 has changed to port 25.
Using iOS 4.
Some ideas?
I think the "smash the iphone" method should be the best - self created SSL certs make some problems to the mail.app and so on - very bad. Works under OS X but not on iOS. Never mind, it's ok if i could save atm the port 587.
Cheers

Still the same...
Port 465 changes also back to 25.
My provider @ home needs port 25, ever other port won't work.
Outside i have to use port 465 or 587, but these ports don't be saved - i could only send 1 mail (wich is currently pending to send) after change the settings.

  • Help!! Cant send email how change my outgoing smtp port to 587 stuck on 25

Im on OSX 10.1.4. I go to Mail, Preferences, Account, Select my email account, Select Edit, Select Account Options.
All I see is a box saying Connect to server port: and it says 143.
When I try to send mail a message says smpt port timed our port 25. I called my internet provider and they told me to change my outgoing port to 587 but I cant find where to change the 25 to 587.
If I go back to the above and change the 143 to 587 my incoming mail stops working.
Am I looking in the wrong place or did I setup my email incorrectly? I selected mac account, pop, smtp.mac.com outgoing server, mail.mac.com for incoming server...did I do something wrong. I have a mac mail email address.
    Please someone help me!!
    Thanks.

So there's no way to send with other ports? You HAVE to use port 25?
Sure there is - talk to every mail administrator of every domain you might ever want to send mail to and have them reconfigure their mail servers to listen on some arbitrary port number that you define. Wait for them to do it (it shouldn't take them too long), and then you're done.
Oh, no, hang on a minute... none of them are going to do that, are they?
But that's what you're asking for - you're asking for them to accept mail on some non-standard port number just so you can get around Verizon's mail blocking.
There is a reason why standard port numbers (defined by IANA) exists - just so that everyone's talking on the same page (or at least in the same chapter of the same book). You can't arbitrarily pick a port number and expect it to work unless both sides of the connection know to use it. You know port 25 works for SMTP because that's the standard. You can use any port number you like for your own mail because you can configure your own mail client to use a non-standard port, but you can't convince the rest of the world to follow suit (at least not without good reason).
In this case your options are to relay your mail through Verizon's servers, upgrade to their business plan (which supports hosting your own mail server and doesn't break the user agreement), or setup another mail server somewhere else that you can relay your mail through.

  • Change submission port to 587 due to OP25B

One of the ISPs I use in Japan has implemented OP25B (Outbound Port 25 Blocking). It is a measure to curb SPAM related problems by forcing ALL SMTP traffic to go through the ISP's SMTP server. The ISP may secure this traffic by implementing SMTP AUTH, volume curtailing, and some virus filtering to minimize the damage of SPAM.
The issue here is, I cannot connect to any other SMTP servers outside of ISPs network, including those owned by myself. I have users on the road that need to send highly sensitive e-mails to colleagues back home, and I do not want to pass those messages through a third-party SMTP server that I KNOW is filtering and looking at the content.
So, I'm hoping there is a way to make a Mac OS X Server 10.4 mail server listen to port 587. I'm also hoping that the Leopard Server incorporates this into the GUI.

So I find this thing called Mail Connection Doctor hidden in the Window menu. It tells me:
Could not connect to this SMTP server. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the Account preferences. also verify that the server accepts connections on port 587. If it does no, change the port number in the Advanced tab of Account preferences.
Well, I know that port 587 works from the outside of the LAN and also I can Telnet into port 587 from within the LAN. It just does not like listening to SMTP signals. I even tried with Firewall off, so I know it's not being blocked on purpose.
The only thing I can think of is a loopback problem. But then why does the server accept loopback SMTP requests on port 25? There must be something different between these two ports and how they accept incoming connections.

  • Change smtp port from 25 to 26

    Hello.
My ISP is blocking my smtp port 25, so I have been using port forward in my airport. 26-25. The DNS is set up til contact me on port 26.
Now I have a new router, and it doesn't have that feature, so I would like to have my mac server to listen on port 26 as smtp instead.
    How do I change that?

You need to add a second listener to your mail server by editing the /etc/postfix/master.cf file. You must do this as root and using a command line editor is recommended. Make a backup of the file first. You do not need to stop mail services to edit the file but you will need to stop and then start mail to make the change recognized.
The line you need to add should look like this:
    26 inet n - n - - smtpd
Test it internally after restarting mail services with a:
    telnet localhost 26
    Hope this helps

  • Change Background_Color with set_*_property doesn´t work with NLS_LANG UTF8

    Hi @all,
we changed our forms from we8iso8859p1 to utf8 and now we noticed that changing of background colors from canvases, items etc don´t work anymore.
    I tried set_canvas_property, set_va_property, set_item_property.
When I start the form with NLS_LANG: GERMAN_GERMANY.WE8ISO8859P1 changing the colors works.
When I start the form with NLS_LANG: GERMAN_GERMANY.UTF8 changing the color don´t work.
    We use Forms Version 6.0.8.11.3.
Are there any workarounds to change the colors when nls is set to utf8?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    I discovered following:
    - if name of OU in AD is without space (e.g. test, sample) so DN record is test\,sample and user is moved into this OU.
    - if name of OU in AD is with space (e.g. test, sample) so DN record is still test\,sample and user isn't moved.
So problem is with empty space. How can I preserve space in DN name? I found something in documentation but I doesn't work for me.
    +Special Characters in FieldValues
If you have a field value with a comma (,) or double quote (") character, or you want to preserve leading or trailing spaces, you must embed your field value within a pair of double quotes ("field_value"). You then need to replace double quotes in the field value with two double quote (") characters. For example, "John ""Johnny"" Smith" results in a field value of John "Johnny" Smith. +
(from IDM Business Administrator's Guide, p.77)
Guided this information I put value of slctOrganizationalUnitUzivatele into "". But this didn't work. Is good idea to have space in DN?
    Thanks for help.

  • Change my country - The phoneservice doesn't work

    Hi!
I want to buy the Creative Cloud but my listed country is wrong. It can't accept my payment before this is fixed. How do I change this?
It says that I need to call the phoneservice, but when I do; the number doesn't work and I am redirected to the local taxi sentral.
How do I approach this problem?
    Thanks

    Hi,
As you wish to change the country listed with your Adobe.com account, you need to contact the Chat Support. They will help you in releasing the adobe account with the invalid country listed there. Once done, you will be able to recreate a new Adobe.com account with the same email address and then can place any order for the associated country.
    NOTE:
    - Make sure that if you have any active subscription within account, while releasing the old account all the subscriptions will be terminated automatically.

  • How to view and change SMTP port number in new account setup in "Mail" 10.6

When I try to set up and test a new email account addressing an SMTP server that seems to e using a nn-standard port number, how on earth can I even look at the port number assigned by default to a new account in Apple Mail 10.6 setup ?
I might have to trial and error different port numbers but when Mail tries to test the connection to the SMTP server after I enter its address, it just spins and hangs up. I suspect the reason is a wrong port number. How do I change that outgoing port number in Apple Mail ??
There seems to be no obvious way the program will let U do it or even let you view the port it assigns in apparent error.

there is no way to change the smtp port during the original account creation. you can usually wait Mail out if it's spinning its wheels at this point. I've had to wait about 15-20 minutes a few times. eventually Mail lets you through even if it fails to connect to the smtp server. then, once the account is created you can edit the smtp server and try a few different ports and settings. that's done in system preferences->accounts. click on teh smtp server at the bottom and select 'edit smtp server list". then in the popup click "advanced".

Where are you trying to log in? You should be able to change your ID at http://appleid.apple.com - can you log in there?
Before you change your ID you should log out of the iTunes Store and on any devices which are logged into iCloud. Then once you've changed it you can log back in with the new ID. (Your iCloud synced data will disappear from the device when you do this but will reappear when you sign back in - give it time).
If you are unable to sign into http://appleid.apple.com you will need to contact Support. Go to http://iforgot.apple.com and sign in with your iCloud login. A new password will be sent to your associated email address. If this doesn't work you will have to contact Support. Go to https://getsupport.apple.com . Click' See all products and services', then 'More Products and Services, then 'Apple ID', then 'Other Apple ID Topics' then 'Lost or forgotten Apple ID password'. If you have any problems with that try this form: https://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html

  • 17" G4 1.5Ghz powerbook has optical port but it doesn't work

I'm trying to get digital audio to work with my powerbook but no matter what I try it doesn't recognize the port. I have a live optical cable that I have connected to the optical port and the headphone port but neither work.
If anyone has a tip or driver or terminal command that I need to run to get this port enabled I'd greatly appreciate it.
I'm running 10.5.3 and have this connected to my HDTV via DVI but need the audio to be crystal clear digital but can't get it working.
Thanks for any tips, I've scoured the discussion boards and interweb for help already.

According to page 14 of the manual, the headphone jack/optical digital audio out port is between the PC card Slot and the Audio Line in/optical digital audio in port.
    From page 47:
"Connecting Speakers and Other Audio Devices
Your PowerBook comes with two built-in speakers, a built-in microphone, an audio line
in/optical digital audio in port, and a headphone/optical digital audio out port (f).
You can connect external speakers, headphones, 5.1 surround systems, and other
sound output devices to the headphone port (f). The headphone port is also a S/PDIF
stereo 3.5 mini-phono jack. When devices are plugged in, sound won’t come through
your built-in speakers. Unplug any headphones or speakers to hear the computer
    speakers.
You can record sound onto your hard disk using the built-in microphone located under
the left speaker grille. You can also connect external microphones or other audio
equipment to the audio line in port. The audio line in port is also a S/PDIF stereo 3.5
mini-phono jack, which does not provide power to a connected device, so you must
use self-powered peripherals. Using a Toslink jack-to-miniplug adapter, you can use a
Toslink cable to connect Digital Audio Tape (DAT) decks or digital instruments to input
    and mix your own music.
For applications, such as iMovie, that can record sound, use the Sound pane of System
Preferences to select the audio input device you want to use, including microphones
    connected through USB.
The volume controls on your keyboard allow you to easily change volume. You can also
access these controls from the Sound pane of System Preferences.
For more information about using or troubleshooting sound on your computer, choose
Help > Mac Help and search for “sound.”

Please clarify how many different systems are involved in this discussion, by providing actual hostname & description of their function.
Firewall rules can be such that System A is allowed to initiate a connection with System B using port #25
This same firewall could be configured to prevent System B from initiating a connection on port #25 with System A.
Please clarify the originating system, the terminating system & the port being used/attempted.
I still suspect internal Firewall rules are getting in your way
