Change user priviledges to administrator

After a lot of attempts i have worked out how to sort out the problem of user being reverted to standard as opposed to administrator.
Boot from the CD. Do not do a reinstall.
In the drop down menu utilities choose reset password.
Choose the System Administrator and reset the password. NB This password must NOT be more that 7 letters long otherwise it won't recognise it when you try to log in.
Shut down and restart computer.
At login either choose system administrator if you have a pulldown menu otherwise type in root as the user name and then the new password.
Go to accounts in the system preferences and click the box against your name to give administration rights on the computer.
log out as SA and log back in as yourself.
Hope this stops some people getting as frustrated and angry as i have.

How do you restart from Max OS X Leopard volume. I am trying to update my software to 10,5,1 but am having admin/password problems.
Thanks

  • Changed User Account to Administrator ... now it's Password Locked

I changed my account type from regular to administrator using the administrative DOS command:
    NET USER myuserid ADMINISTRATOR/ACTIVE:YES
The prompt returned saying the command was successfully executed.   I noticed that my account was still listed as regular, so I restarted the system.  Now I am locked out!  Apparently it has a default password.
I did not use a password with this (myuserid) account, so I cannot understand why it requires one now.     Does anyone have any idea what password it is looking for?  Please, how do I fix this?

    Hi,
Without using any password recovery software, did you try following the "How To Reset a Windows 8 Password" procedure listed in the article posted above. It is through Access Advanced Startup Options - Command Prompt.
If that didn't work, may be someone else may help you. I don't know any other options other than what I suggested unfortunately.

  • How do i change a managed user to an administrator on mavericks?

I thought that I had two users that were both administrators on a MBP.
But one of them is a "Managed" user and if I'm signed is as the administrator, I'm not able to change the "Managed" user to an "Administrator"
I don't see "Managed" as a type of user when creating users.
    I'm obviously, confused.
    Help appreciated....
    Jim P.

I looked into this a little more carefully.  It's not the Guest account.  It clearly indicates "Managed".
Searching for more information, this is something related to Parental Control, but I can't seem to get this account to take on the characteristics of either an administrator or user role.

  • I changed user account and now Time Machine won't back up.

A few months ago I had a problem with my user account. I can't remember the details but i think it would no longer accept my password. After doing some hunting around for answers i made a new user account with administrative priviledges and transferred all the files over to that account. I also changed the permissions on those files to allow me to access them as a new user identity. For the most part that seems to have worked for me, although possibly i have not done the right thing.
Anyway, i have just realised recently that although the little circular arrow that indicated that Time machine is backing up my files, it hasn't actually made a backup since the end of august, which was possibly when i did this funny thing with my user account.
I am assuming that Time Machine has just got very confused about the disappearance of my files from the previous user account and change of permissions etc.
What can i do? I read on 'pondini.org' that i could reset my time machine by deleting the preferences file from my system library and then rehooking up my external hard drive as the desired backup volume. It would then, i assume make a full backup to begin with?
Any advice gratefully received. I am a graphic designer and i do need to have my files backed up!
    thanks
    Lesley
ps i had some extra  RAM installed a little while before the user account problem and only mentioning it here in case that is an issue with Time Machine as well.

Hi Lesely, sadly the great pondini has passed away.
Have you looked through Pondini's extensive TM help site?
    http://Pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
Can't imagine something not being covered there.

  • Change User password not working in SAP ME 6.0

    Hi,
In SAP ME 6.0 SP01 6.0.1.0 Counter 40, the activity "Change User Password" does not work for me or any other user.
The activity window (Netweaver) shows, but in the top it says "An error occurred - contact system administrator".
This is the output from the default trace file. Seems my user is not authorized, but where do I set this authorization?

  • User privilages or changing users with RMI

I'm exploring the use of RMI, and based on some tutorials I created a distributed application which uses RMI.
I launch the RMI server under my admistrator account. However, when a user launches the client portion of my application and executes code on the remote machine running the RMI server, the code on the server side is exectued as the admin instead of the user who is using the client.
What is generally done for this problem? Is there a way to switch users? Thank you for any ideas.

I'm not sure whether you want the server simply to run as some other user other than "administrator", or if you want it to execute as a different user account for each client connection.
If what you want is the server simply to run as another account, you need to start it differently. For example, on WinNT/WinXP, it is possible to run the server as a Windows service. A service can be configured to run under any user account you choose, which should solve your problem. As for how to run the server as a Windows service, I recommend using the freeware here:
    http://www.kcmultimedia.com/javaserv/
I was able to use this successfully without a lot of trouble. If your environment is Linux etc. I am sure there is a way to change the account under which a process is run, but I don't know enough about it to tell you how.
However, if what you want is for the server to operate as a different user for each client conection, I think that would be much trickier. You would probably need to spawn a different process for each connection using JNI to write some platform-specific intefacing to accomplish the account switching.

  • The password for the account "account name" was not changed. Your system administrator may not allow you to change your password or there was some other problem with your password. Contact your system administrator for help.

I have a user who's Active Directory password is going to expire. I had her reset her password by going to apple > system prefs > user > and clicking change password. She received the error "The password for the account "account name" was not changed. Your system administrator may not allow you to change your password or there was some other problem with your password. Contact your system administrator for help."
I had her change her password via the kpasswd command in terminal and that changed her password on the server sucessfully however the laptop has FileVault on it. Filevault is not recognizing the new password just the old password.
I have deleted the keychain which didn't resolve and now I am going to decrypt and reencrypt the drive. I'm hoping this is an isolated issue I have over 25 laptops configured like this.

I "think" the trick was unbinding and rebinding the computer account.
After unencrypting and trying to reencrypt Filevault would still not take the new password.
Rebooted the prompt to update the keychain appeared. Updated the keychain. Filevault would still not take the new password.
Unbinded and rebinded the computer account. It worked and let me add the user to filevault.

  • Impact of Changing User Types

What is the impact of changing user types from 'service' user type to either a 'communication' or 'system' user type?  Will the change stop authorizations or will it only affect administration?  Is the change related to the available fields or locking security and not necessarily related to authorizations.

    Which release are you on?
It also depends on your config => rejecting expired passwords, compliance with current password policies (at logon...) and same user context for RFC calls.
You should first investigate why it is a "SERVICE" type user. If it is from a config wizard with a profile delivered by SAP, then there might be a good reason for this.
The authority checks on "SERVICE" and "SYSTEM" users are the same, except that "SYSTEM" users are not SAPGui capable. This is not only restricted to the SAPGui logon screen. And for all logon types, they are excempted from changing their password - both via the requirement to do so and the ability to do it voluntarily...
But if they can administrate themselves, then they can (authorization object S_USER_GRP).
The same cannot be said for "COMMUNICATION" type users. I recommend not using them at all and there are many SAP notes which correct standard config wizards to use the correct user type => SYSTEM.
"COMMUNICATION" users are "DIALOG" users, except that when you enter the correct password via the SAPGui logon screen, then a message is returned to inform you that the user type cannot logon from that screen. But other screens will work, if the first screen is skipped.
You can test this with transaction OBVU in the standard system, or any other Z-transaction of the same ilk.
    Cheers,
    Julius

  • Problems after changing user folder name

    Hi everybody,
My pc had a problem with the HHD so I needed to send it back to the repair centre. During the reparation the company created a user called 'user'.
Since I had a backup that had to restore data in C:\Users\Andrea I changed the user's name as in this guide http://  superuser.com/questions/495290/how-to-rename-user-folder-in-windows-8 (I followed the step: 'I have
already logged into that account' since that was my situation.)
Now when opening Windows Update (only the desktop version, while the metro version works fine) I got this error
    http://  postimg.org/image/6c6konbhh/
I hope someone has an idea of what's happening.
    Thanks in advance.
P.S. Sorry for the links but I couldn't post links or pictures because the forum says that I am not verified.

Create new user account with administrative privilege and try Windows Update.
If same issue, follow the steps to solve.
Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative tools > Services
Stop the Background Intelligent Transferring Service, Cryptographic Service and Windows Update service.
then goto C:\Windows rename the Software Distribution folder as Software Distribution.OLD
    Reboot the PC.
Now you can try Windows Update.

  • Changing Email address for Administrator

We have specified a particular e-mail address while installing Oracle Files. This is the e-mail address used by sysadmin (administrator account) We would like to change this e-mail address to new one. But e-mail address box for sysadmin is grayed out. What is the workaround for changing e-mail address.

    Access the adminlogin as follows:
    http://hostname.domain:port/files/app/AdminLogin
login as the user site_admin (site administrator) and give the password you specified during installation.
Once logged in you will be taken to the subscribers main page - which lists subscribers.
Select your subscriber, and on the following page select the 'modify subscriber' button. Click on next till you get to step3, you can change the email address here - mine is not greyed out.
Alternatively you can also do the following:
Access the AdminLogin link as above, and this time login as the subscriber administrator, this is the username you specified when you were creating the subscriber. Mine is filesadmin. Click on the users tab,and search for your subscriber administrator , again mine is filesadmin. When the search retrieves the result, click the user, you should then be taken to the user information page, you can change the email from here aswell.

  • OBIEE-OID User Priviledges

    Hi,
    I am new to OBIEE..
Actually the requiremt is that there should be 3 groups having different users and one user in each group should have Administrator right but only for the particular subject areas and dashboards.
    Can this be done.
If any user is given administrative power then he gets priviledge to modify any dashboard which I want to restrict.
So is there any way to do such implementation.
The users are created using LDAP server.
Kindly repond to this post soon..I would be thankful to u all.

    Hi,
    It is Possible.
Goto Settings>Administration>Manage Interactive dshboards here open permission for your dshboard then
select the group and added to it and give READ permission. Search for the user in this group and add ,give FULLCONTROl permission.
So the the users in this group have read permissions, the additional user have full control permission.
Do the same procedure for other two dashboards.
These full control users have only fullcontrol only on this dashboard only, they dont have control on other dasboards.
    Cheers.
