Changing a "Template" Page

I am learning about DW templates. I have one concern though.
If I create a template for all of my 50 pages and then I make a
change to the template can I just re upload the template page to
the server or do I have to re upload all of the pages again? I was
told that if I change the ''template" page that I have to re upload
all of the pages again and not just the "template" page. This would
be very inefficient though and defeat the purpose of using the
template IMO.

> do I have to re upload all of the pages again?
Yes
Investigate Server Side Includes. You would only have to
upload the changed
Include file. Highly efficient.

  • Changing individual template pages text!! How??

    So if I choose a template such as "screenplay" and I have 10 different pages within that one document, how do I change the header text that appears across the top of each template page? They are all linked together, so when I change one, they all change. Can't I override this and have some of the headers different? Thanks.

    el,
    Yes, you can. Put a section break at the end of one type of header section, then click in the body of the next page, and UNcheck User Previous Headers & Footers from the Layout inspector.

    You can't. Those are functions of the the template.

  • Ask your question.How do I change the template for a pages document

    How do I change the template for a pages document?

    Once you've opened it, the opened document is no longer a template. Edit it as you would any other Pages document.
    If you want to use the edited document as a Template, then , after editing, go File > Save as Template, give the new template a name, and click Save.
    The old template will remain available in the location where you found it; the new one will be in the My Templartes sectionof the Templates Chooser.

  • Changing titles on pages assigned to templates

    The title field on pages assigned to templates is grayed out in the code.  I have searched help and it says the field is editable on the page after the template is assigned.  Not happening.  Help said these could be changed from Modify>Page Properties or by typing the title in the field and neither are working.  I even went to the default.html and tried to see if something was wrong, but all appeared normal.
    Any ideas?

    This is the sign of an improperly made template.
    Do this -
    Create a new page (Basic HTML).
    Use FILE | Save as Template....
    Look at the code in the head region of the page, particularly the editable
    region around the <title> tag, and the other editable region in the head
    called "head".
    Make your template file look like that.
    Always use FILE | Save as Template when you create your templates and you
    won't have this problem again.

  • Does and one know if you can change the navigation menu at the top of the iWeb template pages?

    Does and one know if you can change the navigation menu at the top of the iWeb template pages? I need to make the background a little wider.

    It depends on which template you use.
    You can also hide the default navigation and build your own which allows more freedom of design and is better for search engine optimization...

  • How do I change a single page in a template site without detaching it?

    I'm using a template for the first time.  Please help.  The template has an editable content area that is a certain size.  At the bottom of the page (below this editable content area) is a footer that is part of the template and is thus non-editable on all pages except for the main template page.
    Here is the problem:  I want to put a taller image on one page (the image will go in the editable content area) but it is taller than the content area I had set aside in the template.  Once I place it there, the footer (which is fixed in the template) is across the lower part of the image.
    I don't want to detach the page from the template unless I have to because I want updates to be site-wide.  How do I enlarge the content area on that one page so that it will not affect the content area on the other pages and will still, on that one page, move the footer down so it won't be across the image?
    I have tried a lot of different things.  Thanks for answering here and at this e-mail:  [email protected]  I appreciate it.  Richard

    Without seeing your page, this seems less like a template problem and more of a design strategy problem.
    You should be building flexible pages that can handle increased content, text-sizes, image sizes, etc...
    CSS height property is a restriction in all but IE browsers.  Either remove height property from your content areas or consider using a more flexible min-height.
    More on min- and max- height & widths --

  • How to change/update one page and all others at once?

    I'm quite new to Dreamweaver. I am trying to add some things to my sidebar and I would like it to appear on all of my other pages. I used a template for the index(homepage) then I just saved the page so I could create other pages for it to have the same logo and such on those pages. So how do I go about editing one page and all others at once?

    If you used DW Templates to create your child pages, open your .dwt file.
    Make changes to the sidebar.
    Save and populate changes to child pages.
    Unfortunately, making changes to child pages will not populate to other child pages.  Only the master template.dwt in DW can populate changes across to child pages.

  • Is it possible to change the first page of a web application that was built using the UI?

    Hello Community
        Using Sharepoint 2010 Server and the UI I built and application and would like
    to continue building the web application using the UI.
        The application's first page was built using a Blank Site template and
    the subsequent subsites were built using the Team Site template.
        In retrospect the first page should also have been built using a Team Site template.
        It may be unnecessary to make to delete the application
    and create the first page as a Team Site and then have to create all of the
    subsites (Team Sites) all over again.
        As a solution to prevent deleting the whole application and creating application
    with all of the subsites all over again whether it is possible to do any of the
    following:
        - Convert the Blank Site page into a Team Site page which would allow
    me to leave all of the subsites as is.
        - rename the Blank site page which would in effect would be renaming the application
    then create a new Team Site page which would be essentially creating a new application and
    then adding all of the subsites contained in the renamed application that has the first page
    as a Blank page.
        And if is possible to add, copy or move the subsites from existing sites to a new Team Site
    page, how do you add, copy or move the subsites from one application to a diffent application?
        Thank you
        Shabeaut

    Hi Shabeaut,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to change the template of the root site without creating the susites in another web application.
    I recommend to export all the existing subsites and import them to new web application.

  • Flash in Template Pages

    I placed two Flash object into a template page. Child pages
    made from it worked fine until I made a change to the template.
    After that, the Flash objects are no longer visible when previewed
    in the browser.
    Is this normal? Is there a way around it? Or do I have to
    load the Flash objects into the each and every child page?
    Your help is greatly appreciated.

    > So it will probably not work there
    > either.
    nope- it won't.
    for flash objects in locked parts of a template to work on
    the child pages,
    they must have a site root relative path because they are
    currently inserted
    with the active content javascript to write them. So the path
    isn't managed
    in the child pages like it is for links and images.
    you could put it in the root level of you own site, with
    unique filenames?
    If there aren't many pages, you could rename them in the
    files panel to
    something like aaa_index.html and aaa_contact.html so they
    are grouped
    together. also be sure to upload the Scripts folder in the
    public root

    Hi
    I've created a template in dreamweaver with an external style sheet. I then created a page from that template (named index)and want to add divs and css within the editable region that I've defined. I inserted a div and made a new rule for that div and saved it in the current document, not the external style sheet. I figured that would be the right way so I don't have an external style sheet with a bunch of rules that won't apply to a bunch of pages. Now when I make a change to the template and save it, the css rule that I added to the document only is deleted. How do I fix this, or is saving all the rules to the external style sheet the right way to do this. Hope this makes sense, I'm not a very good storyteller. By the way a complete noob. I'll try and paste my code from the template. Thanks a bunch for your help.

    When using templates, page-specific CSS must be placed in the editable region of the head, as in:
    <!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="head" -->
    <style type="text/css">
    <!--
    a:link {
         color: #B7242C;
         text-decoration: none;
    a:visited {
         text-decoration: none;
         color: #B7242C;
    a:hover {
         text-decoration: none;
    a:active {
         text-decoration: none;
    -->
    <!-- TemplateEndEditable -->

  • Changing a template in iWeb,09

    I have created a new Blog using iWeb,09 by using a template of the ones that come with iWeb,09.
    But, cannot I change the template? I didn't find an option for that. What should I do?
    Thanks.

    You can change any page. Up to a point.
    But some templates have a fixed design.
    The alternative is to use an 3rd party blog. I use Thingamablog and created a blog to fit an iWeb design.
    Have a look : [White iWeb Template Blog|http://www.wyodor.net/iWebBlogTest/Wyodor_1/Blog.html]

  • Change default template for a given Theme

    Can we change the default template for a theme ? (if yes, how). I had selected theme 3 (business) during the creation of my application with 2 level tabs. After creating parent tabs and standard tabs and getting it working I changed the theme to theme 12 (blue). When the theme got switched, the default application page template became a 1 level tab.
    This was because for Theme 12, the default Page template is 1 level tab. I want to change this default Page template to 2 level tabs. I couldn't see option of making this as a default.

    Sorry, I found the answer in the documentation in Chapter 7 under
    "Changing Default Templates in a Theme".

  • Preserving Code In Template Pages

    I have noticed, when I write asp.net code above the head
    section of a template page it gets overwritten (deleted) when I
    update the template.
    Is there any way to lock this area?

    See this line -
    "><!-- InstanceBegin
    template="/Templates/SweetSuccess.dwt.aspx"
    codeOutsideHTMLIsLocked="false" -->
    It tells DW to treat the region outside of
    <html></html> as an editable
    region. It should not remove any code you place there.
    However, you have this -
    <script language="vb" runat="server">
    which is HTML. It usually doesn't belong above the
    <html> tag - although I
    don't know about .Net usages. Could be that this is what is
    giving DW a
    headache.
