Changing Base Unit Of Measure in Material Master

Dear All,
We need to change the base unit of measure of certain materials who have been assigned inspection plan. We have deleted the material from Inspection Plan and later even the plan. But still the system not allowing to change the BASE UNIT OF MEASURE. The error thrown by the system is : Material is assigned to inspection Plan.
Please guide in this regard as changing the material for us will be a very cumbersome act.

Hi Rohan,
Please check 'display errors' in MM02 when you are trying to change the BUoM. It will say what prevents you from doing that.

Dear Experts,
Material DF21DENG (fert) was created with KGS (kilogram per second) as its unit of measurement. A material BOM was now created for DF21DENG.
I intend to change the unit of DF21DENG from KGS to KG (kilogram). On doing this in the Basic data view of DF21DENG, i get the message " change is not possible because a BOM exists for this material".
In the BOM of DF21DENG, I set the deletion flag on & tried to change the unit in the Material master again but got the same massage.
Please how can I effect this change?

This response was helpful but was solved the problem was that; from the Edit, i selected Delete from the drop down & then the alternative BOM was deleted.

1. How to check this? (Any successful changes in material master only took place when there is no open document from SD, PP, MM & FI for that material. )
2. Base unit of measurement cannot be changed. The reason being material movement history is there in table - MSEG mainly which otherwise create inconsistency in reporting. -
Is this line applicable for current period or previous period in current year or previous period previous year???
3. There are no existing purchase requisitions, purchase orders, or scheduling agreements for the material. -
is this means open / pending purchase orders or the the PO's created in system with respect to material where the GR and IR is already done
4. You can change the base unit of measure if there is no stock of the material during current and previous period----
is this means the term " previous preiod" is previous period in the current finacial year   or its applicable for the previous preiod in previous financial year
5. Post the stock in the previous period to the current period - -
how can we do this???

The material must not be contained in a bill of material
The material must not be used as a production resource/tool
The material must not be used in task lists
No standard cost estimate must exist for the current or future period

If the base unit has dimensions, no serial number profile must be assigned
No sales and distribution documents must exist which have status Not processed or Partially processed.
Solution
If necessary, all reasons mentioned above must be eliminated by archiving the objects listed
1) SAP checks this for you. A new button will appear in MM02 and after you click this button to check the error log, you will see which documents exist.
2) I have not seen that an existing movement will restrict the change of a BUoM.
3) No purchase requisitions, purchase orders or scheduling agreements must exist for which the deletion indicator is not set
       it is not caring about GR done or IR done. it telling you that the deletion indicator has to be active. As a deletion indicator can be reset easily, you probably have to archive the documents
4) the previous period is the period before the current period.
   today we have February, hence the previous period is January.
5) first make sure your current stock is higher than the stock of the previous period. if it is lower, then you have to create inventory in current period first e.g. with 202 movement with current date.
Then you issue the previous period stock with 201 movement and previous period date (make sure periods are open in OB52 and MMRV allows posting to previous period).
Finally you issue the left stock in the current period with 201 and current date.
Now previous period and current period stock is zero. After the change of the base unit you have to get the stock back into the system

Unit of measure in Material Master after PO's created

Hello Everyone,
I know that we can't change the material measure unit once PO's and other documents are created.
What can I do with the PO so i can change the material measure unit?

Unit of Measurement in Material Master

Hello Experts...
I have an intresting issue on Unit of Measurement. I would like to maintain alternative unit of measurement as per below..
1 EA = 1 EA
1 ROLL = 5000 EA
1 CT = 150,000 EA
However the field UMREZ length in the material master allows me to enter upto 5 digits...and also it is not possible to enter decimal digits here.
Have any one of you faced this kind of issue, if any one faced what would be the solution for this...?

Hi Umakanth,
For increasing the numerator for conversion of base unit of measure, UMREZ would be appending the structure SMEINH by requesting Access Key from SAP.
Even though its not a suggestible decision to append standard SAP structure , if the requirement demands we may need to do that.

Unit of Measure in material master

Hi
I have a Raw material consider (Forging) for which material master is maintained "PC" as Base unit of Measure. I have defined in Additional Unit of Measure as 500 KG = 1 PC. Also my order unit is also maintained as PC.
Here when they procure castings they order it as 1 PC only. But when the actual material comes there may be some variation in weight. The client wants to make payment on actual weight basis only .
Also stock keeping unit and issue of material is done as PC only.
Please guide me how to address this issue.

With the existing master data you can acheive your requirement.You can maintain the price in info record in Kgs or in PO Item conditions tab you can maintain the price per kg.
while doing the miro please enter the actual quantity in<b> Qty in PO price unit</b> in Quantity tab ans save the GR.When you do MIRO, system will propose Qty as 1PC and value as <b>Qty in PO price unit X Price per kg</b> maintained in PO.Please try this solution.

Change base unit of measure

Its me again. I need to change the base unit of measure of a material but a task listw as created via QP01. I tried to delete this via QP02 but i still cannot change the base unit of measure. Is there any way except for deleting the task list via CA98?

Ellen,
Unfortunately the answer to your question is no..You have to use a transaction like CA98 or QSR6 to delete the Inspection plan from Database. Please take necessary authorisation and delete this plan.
Alternately set this material to with deletion flag and client & plant level status, so that you cannnot use this material any longer. Now create a new material with correct Base unit of measure and use this material.

Can we change Base unit of Measure ?

I got a requirement to change the name TO(tonne) base unit of measure in MM01 into MT. Is it possible to achieve this if ys share me the procedure.
In short when i click F4 help in base unit of measure in the place of TO i want to change it into MT.

If u want to change the base unit of measure... firstly do the conversion method... MM02 (If the material is a finished or semi finished) -> Work Scheduling View -> Put the UNIT OF ISSUE (MT) and then give the conversion factor unit measure.... and save...
if u want to change the base unit of measure... Change the MRP PRofile and then change the Base Unit of Measure...
It is better to consult PP and MM Consultant....
I think you got the solution... Give me the point....

Error while defining alt unit of measurement in material master

All SAP gurus,
i am trying to define a alt unit of measurement in a finished material, the base unit of measurement is in MT, and the sales unit is nos. the conversion formula is 53 nos = 1kg i.e. 1MT = 53000 nos. as conversion can be done only with base unit of measurement i am giving 53000 nos = 1 MT, but system unable to calculate the conversion as it is not taking mere than 3 digit after decimal.
e.g. if 53000 nos = 1 MT
then 1 nos should be = 0.000018 MT
but system not taking this value as this value contain 6 digit after decimal
suggest me what can be the way out? with detailed steps. can i increase the post decimal value or i have to define another middle alt unit of measurement (like KG). and if that is to be done then how.

Update info record when changing units of measure in material master

Hello,
is there any possibility for an automatic change of info record when changing conversion factors in the material master ?
We have 3 units of measure in our material master: the base unit and 2 alternative units. The first alternative unit is the order unit and the second alternative unit is the order price unit. So in our purchase info records we maintain an order unit, which differs from the base unit and we also maintain an order price unit, which differs from the base unit and the order unit.
If we now change the conversion factors between the units in the material master, we would like to get an automatic change of the converions in the info record (to order unit and order price unit), which have the same previous conversions.
For IS R it seems to be implemented (see OSS-Note 975954).
Is there any solution for a "normal" industry system ?

I don't think such an auto update is available. Infact I came to know that such an update is available in IS-R after reading your query.
Obviously you an always create a workflow based enhancement that can synchronize the Info-records and material master changes or sort of enhancement which regularly reads the material master change history for such changes and trigger a synchronization by executing change Info-record automatically.

Met problem to change unit of measure in material master

Our prime made mistake when creating material master with MM01. He used wrong unit of measure EA instead of right one M. And when he recognized this issue and tried to change it with MM02 in view Basic1, system prompt him an error message that "Standard cost estimates for the current period already exist".
So, please help to let me know how can I delete related records about cost estimates and avoid this error. Thanks a lot.

You can delete Cost estimates using T-code: CKR1 , I am not sure if you can change UoM if you have any goods movements on the material. The best option would be create new material with correct UoM and transfer stock from old Material to New one with proper Conversion.

We are Using User Exists,
If Production Order Header material's unit of entry is not same as base UOM then system will check conversion ratio maintained in material master-->additional data.
Convert quantity in UOE to quantity in Base UOM for Header material i.e.101 movement.
Calculate componenet quantity (261 movement) as per bom.
Calculate 95% of component quantity for lower tolerance limit
Calculate 105% of component quantity for upper tolerance limit
If component quantity entered against 261 movement is not within lower and upper tolerance then system will give error message and will restrict to post entry.
This for information part.But still my question is how can alt. Uom of Measurment can be used while creation of BOM instead of Base Uom at header level.

Change for Unit of measure in condition master

Hi, gurus..
I want to know this is SAP error or not..
I created condition for material H20.
H20     70500 usd per 1 SET
and edited the unit of measure in addtion of material master record.
1 EA - 1EA
1 SET - 6 EA
then I create SO in VA01 with line item
H20   1EA   ...
but condition record showed me a wrong value..
H20    11774 usd per 1EA...
70500 / 6 = 11750 usd..Why 11774...??
So, I changed the condition for more test..
H20 11750 usd per 1EA...
After input line item in VA01.
H20 1 Set...
then condition was 70500 usd per 1 SET ..Right result..
I tried it on other system ( Best Practices 1606) once more but result was same.
This is SAP ERROR ??? or not..

this error will come due to conversion factor at sales order level .kindly check in the item level how the conversion factor will take the system and also try to change the Quantity and check once again. this will come rare case , if you want to check the conversion error ,debug at the sales order level . for your reference I am attachment the conversion factor path .

Hi,
If I understand you correctly, you have to change Item Master to the lower UoM KL. Then you may use this as a base UoM in BOM.

Changes in Base Unit of Measure

Hi,
We got an issue,User tried to change the Base unit of Measure from NO to KG.
1.For this material we dont have stock in unrestricted and quality,But it has reservations. 2.It has got Scheduling agreement,3.This material is used In BOM.
So if i cancel reservations,then remove this item from scheduling agreement and delete it from BOM.Will it work further to change the Base Unit of Measure.

1) You can only change the base units of measure under the following circumstances
No stocks are available for the material.
There are no existing purchase requisitions, purchase orders, or scheduling agreements for the material.
At present, no purchase orders or purchase order items are being created or changed.
Item is not linked in any BOM as chield part
If requests for quotations, purchasing info records, or contracts are available for a material, the system emits a warning while changing base unit of measure. Still if you want to change unit of measure specify in a dialog box the factor for converting the base unit of measure into the new base unit of measure. The purchasing info records are then, if necessary, updated.
2) Solution
   As system is not allowing changing base unit of measure there will be either stock of this material or existing purchase document
1) If there are stocks in the previous period, you can clear them as follows:
a) Post the stock in the previous period to the current period (for example, using movement type 561) so that the stock for the previous period is the same as the stock for the current period.
b) Clear the stock with the posting date in the previous period (for example, using movement type 562).
2) If there are Open purchase requisitions, purchase orders, or scheduling agreements for the material.complete all P2P cycle for open orders (purchase requisitions, purchase orders, or scheduling agreements) and then close it.
3)Delete item from BOM
Then
1.     Run Trnx MM02 (Change Material Master immediately.
2.     Overwrite the old base unit of measure with the new one in basic data screen.
3.     Save the change.
3) System checks
If a change criterion (Trnx. code MM02) is meeting all necessary prerequisites (as mentioned in point 1).System allows changing base unit of measure. Otherwise it displays warning or error. U can display the reason for this, by choosing Display Errors (ctrl+F1)
