Changing default apps on N9

Is there a way to change default apps on the N9, would like to have CuteTube as my default YouTube app.
Thanks

not at the moment..regarding your qneptunea being opened from the feed screen. (this is a point of contention with me too. I absolutely believe that the qneptunea is the best twitter app to date)

  • Changing default app

I clicked on a document you wish to open in Open Office.  I get Info for that document. In the box that says "Open With", select Open Office.  I click on the window which gives me three options.  First, is TextEdit which is the current default app.  (Open office and Preview are the other options.)   I click on Open Office and TextEdit comes up.  As an experiment, I click on Preview and Preview was ably chosen.  How can I make Open Office for all word douments?  I appreciate your help in advance.

If you want to open a single instance of Text document with OpenOffice, right click and open with OpenOffice.
If you want to have OpenOffice open just that file with OpenOffice all the time, then Get info and open with OpenOffice and close. Double click the file.
If you want to have OpenOffice open all Text documents with that same format (like .txt, .rtf, .doc etc.) extension then click on a file, then Get Info then Open with: OpenOffice and then click Change All before closing the Get info window.
BTW, LibreOffice is the new fork of OpenOffice since Oracle bought Sun and is really not paying much attention to it.
So LibreOffice is what you should be using now and it will open your OpenOffice files just the same.

  • Change default app for .dvdmedia files (Finder now treats them as folders)

I need to change .dvdmedia files to open up with an app and not to show up in Finder as a folder as it currently does. How do I do that?
There isn't anymore the usual drop-down menu for Open with... in Get Info dialog window since Finder now treats .dvdmedia files as folders. This happened when I was trying to change the default app for them to something else but the "Open with" section kept showing Finder and when I actually selected the Finder once it started to treat these files as folders. Now I don't know how to get back.
    Thanks!

This tip further down the other discussion worked (the 2. part of it): https://discussions.apple.com/message/17531236#17531236
I'm still missing icons for three of my .dvdmedia files and I can only have DVD Player app be the default app but at least I got the files back to files instead of folders.

"1. Open TextEdit (or some text editor), create a small text file and save it.
    2. Right-click on the text file, and choose "Get Info".
    3. Under Name & Extension, change the extension to ".dvdmedia". Hit Enter to save this change.
    4. Under Open With, the associated program should be showing VLC. Select DVD Player instead, and save that change.2

  • Change default app for excel files

Is there a way to change the default app for viewing Excel files sent as email attachments on iphones and ipads? Currently if you tap the file it opens in Quick Look, tap and hold gives other options to open the file. I want to set the tap affect to open the file in numbers instead.

Any email attachment should give you the option of opening it in any app that can at a minimum view the file. In the File function (i.e. by tapping the "box with an arrow" icon), then swiping to the left and tapping "More", you can turn off a handful of apps from appearing, but also change the order in which they appear on the pop up making your app of choice a little quicker to access. Also, if you tap and hold on the attachment icon in the message, it opens the same functionality with going through the quick look.

  • Can't change default app to open file type in Mavericks

I'm having a problem changing the default application to open .PSD files.
I've tried using Get Info, Open With and click on an app and Change All button, but when I confirm I notice that it has been changed to the old app.
For example, I tried to change .psd files to Photoshop CC, instead of Photoshop CS6. I click on Open With and changed it to Photoshop CC and click Change All. When I click confirm, and move the pointer away, it changes back to CS6.
    What gives?
    Thank you.
    Roxy

After you change the application used to open the file, there should be a "Change All" button that will set the default for all files of that type.
In addition, I use the Perian plugin so that almost all types of video files will open in Quicktime. http://perian.org/
    Free and works very well.

  • Change default app for DAT files as the su

    Hey
I do a lot of work in the terminal and it's sometimes convenient to be "su" permanentely instead of login in and out of the root account. The problem is whenever I try to open a DAT file, it tries to open it with, of all the apps in my Mac, HP Photosmart or something like that -.-
I've done the "cmd+i -> change all" several times now and it only worked for the non-root user...
Does anyone know how to change the deafult app for DAT files as the su (maybe the command line(s) for doing so)??
It's not like it's a life or death thing, it's just that it's a bit annoying having to constantly write "-a Microsoft\ Excel" whenever I want to open such a file (which can be several dozens of times in an afternoon and since the names of the files may change it won't suffice to 'arrow up' to the line previously used =\)
    Much appreciated

    I'll try that, thanks
I sometimes need it 'cause of permission issues of the files...
(E.g.,  Some file is sent to me or I'm logged as su to install something using ports and compile/run programs and the output files generated are only readable/editable as su... As I said, it's not a life/death thing, just wanted to know if anyone knew how to fix it once and for all )
I'll post the result as soon as I've tried the proposed solution

  • Can EXCHANGE 2010 USE default app pool - v4?

    Hi guys.
I had a problem on Exchange 2010 SP3 with latest cumulative update that I needed to change Default App Pool from 4 to 2.
I don't know what caused changing those numbers to 4, but I'm curious is there any official statement about it, that it should have number 2 and not 4?
Because if I look in this address:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff728623.aspx
under Microsoft .NET Framework I see table where it's written that
    .NET Framework 4.5
    is supported in
    Exchange 2010 SP3
    so I'm a little bit confused/amused.

    Hi,
What version of IIS are you using?
I find a related information about Default App Pool for your reference:
    http://www.iis.net/configreference/system.applicationhost/applicationpools/applicationpooldefaults
    Version
    Notes
    IIS 8.0
Another value ("v4.0")   was added to the
managedRuntimeVersion attribute in IIS 8.0, and its default value was changed   to "" instead of "v2.0".
    Hope this helps!
    Thanks.

  • Change defaut app

Is it possible to change the default app a program goes to.  I purchased a photo app I like better then the default photo app. When I take a picture can I have it go to the other photo app and not the apple default app. When an app ask for a picture can I have it go the new photo app and not the default apple photo app?

You can not change default apps away from Apple ones. Some apps do give you a choice of what to open a file with, but doesn't sound like that will help you in this case.

  • How do I change the default app for opening a file;

If I right click on a file in finder, it tells me what the default app for opening the file is.  it also gives me a short list of other apps.
I would like to change the defaults for several file types, and also delete one app from the short list and add a different one.
    How do I do this?
    thanks

    You could try this:
    - right-click (tap with 2 fingers on the apple trackpad) on a file you want to open in openoffice
    - move the cursor over "open with". You should see the default app, then some suggestions, then app store, then at the end, "other...".  Select "other..."
    - find openoffice in your applications folder and select it  (if it is dimmed, change "enable: " from "recommended applications" to "all applications", then you can select "openoffice")
    - check "always open with"
    - then, click "open".  The file will open in openoffice and from now on, openoffice will be the default application to open the type of file you just opened.  You should also see the icon of all files of the same type change to the openoffice file icon.
This is supposed to work, but that's not always the case, especially when the default app happens to be an Apple app.  If you don't want to use that Apple app, delete it (or move it elsewhere if you want a backup). That can help.
    Good luck!

  • Xfce's default app settings keep getting changed.

My xfce default app settings are constantly being changed to KDE apps.

Raccoon1400 wrote:How can I change settings so kde cant get to it but xfce can?
Well ... that you can't do I guess. The dirty solution I proposed effectively blocks anything/anyone from changing it easily.
Like I said look in the KDE configuration panel for anything related with default apps and if it is possible to leave them alone. Not much more I can say, I use xfce only.
Another option is to backup that file (if indeed that is that file that controls the default apps) and when you start xfce you copy the backup over that file, when you logout from xfce make a backup. This way kde can mess it all it likes and you will still have your default xfce apps and an easy way to change it in xfce.

wjosten - thanks very much for the detailed instructions. I'll try this as soon as I get my replacement and it looks like you'll probably end up getting the green tick

  • Mac OSX mavericks - can't change the default app for InDesign

I have a problem that the InDesign CS6 stubbornly changes back the default file-type association for the .indd and .indb file types.
I tried to change it via Get Info - then it immediately changes back to InDesign CS6. Also tried with RC default App, but it forgets my setting immediately when I make them for InDesign CS5, and for CS6 it doesn't allow that I make it.
The only way that it works, is if I put the InDesign CS6 folder to Trash, and then change the file-type association - but then only until I start again InDesign CS6 which changes back all the file-type associations.
My workflow is like that, that I'm working on many projects, and my main clients use CS5, but some use CS6 - so I need both of them, but that CS5 is the main program. How can I fix this problem?
I am on latest Mac OS X 10.9.1
    THanks, Gas

Edit: Disregard. It worked for some text/ files but not video/x-... So I guess I still have the same problem.
The same thing happened to me.
I deleted (probably safer to first rename)
    ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list
    Then I ran
    kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental
I'm not sure if the first step was necessary, but it worked for me.

  • Changing Default Navigation App

    Hi all,
I'm new to the Win8 Lumia 920 and so far love it, love it, love it. I got mine through AT&T.  I used the voice command to "navigate" to a place however, my only choice was the AT&T app. Is there a way I can change that "default" nav app to nokia drive? I love Nokia drive over AT&T's nav app not to mention it is an extra fee. It is not worth paying versus Nokia drive , I just don't prefer it.
So that's my issue How do I change the default app the phone wants to use (ATT Nav) to Nokia Drive. Thanks in advance for any help.
    Dave

Thanks for the quick response however, I don't ask for  the specific nav app. I just say "Navigate to Walmart" for example and the voice app says "Starting AT&T Navigator". There is no other option. And if I say "Navigate using Nokia Drive" it saves that command to one note. I am trying to change AT&T Navigator to Nokia Drive when I tell my phone via voice to "Navigate" to wherever.

  • How to disable APP and change default program in registry

    Dear all,
it is possible to disable all the app (that appears in the start screen) in Windows 8.1?
Our users are a little bit confused and we prefer to use the old program (example Windows Photo Viewer and not Photos APP).
Let me know if it is possible and how to do it.
If yes, where we can edit the registry key to make the default program Windows Photo Viewer? And other programs? We would like to set Windows Photo Viewer as default app on all our computer in domain. It is possibile to edit this setting in registry?
    And not manual from GUI?
Our PC are in a domain.
    Thank you,

    Hi,
According to your description, you want to open the file without using metro app.
We don't need to disable all metro app.
You can use the Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tool to change the default programs associated with a file name extension.
1.Deploy your Windows image to a test computer.
2 Log into Windows and use Control Panel to configure your default application associations.
3.You can export the default application associations that you have configured to an XML file on a network share or USB drive. For example, at a command prompt type the following command:
    Dism /Online /Export-DefaultAppAssociations:\\Server\Share\AppAssoc.xml
4.Use GP server to enable the following group policy to modify the default Associations on the client machine.
    Computer Configuration>Administrative Templates>Windows Components>File explorer>Set a default associations configuration file.
Regarding how to export or Import Default Application Associations, please refer to the following article:
