Changing IP Address and ports in Directory Server 5.1 SP 4 and 5.2 SP4

I have installed multiple instance of Sun Directory Server 5.1 and 5.2 on ports 389 and 390,now I want to change the IP Address and ports, I am able to change the directory server port from 389 by editing the dse.ldif file, now I want to change the port 390 and the IP address same as directory server, can someone expert from the forum guide me.

1) I don't know what you've typed in when installing... but I've never seen that message. Are you using any language specific characters ?
Do you get the error after this screen ?

If yes, then this means that the value you typed in is not a valid DN... and you must enter a valid one.
2)The Directory Server is installed under /usr/iplanet but the database is under /var/iplanet/ds5 and configuration is under /etc/iplanet/ds5 ...
You can use symbolic links if you want to move things around.
3) You mean you downloaded the tar.gx file of iDS 5.1 and install it on Solaris 9... No problem, I do this every day. As long as you have right to create directories and files, you should be able to install as anyone. If not, you should install as root and then let the server run as a special user.
4) Solaris 9 comes with iDS5.1 packages already installed. But the server is not configured at all.
Running directoryserver setup allows you to configure it and create the database, accounts...
Running directoryserver uninstall remove the instance of the installed database... It doesn't remove the packages. You can start again a setup...
By the way, I think that iDS 5.1 on Solaris 9 comes with the full documentation... May be you should start by reading it.

How to disable nonsecure port in Directory Server 5.2

We have recently upgraded from Directory Server 5.1 to 5.2. With version 5.1, you could set the non-secure LDAP port to be 0, and that would disable connections to the non-secure port. Version 5.2 doesn't allow you to do this. I tried from the console, and even changed it manually in the dse.ldif file, and neither method worked. Is there any way to disable the non-secure port for Directory Server 5.2?

I have found the simplest way is to lock the nonsecure port down to the localhost using
listenhost: 127.0.0.1
This means that it won't answer outside queries on that unsecured port, but it still has the advantage of allowing you to use it locally (which can save on the typing a bit).
Note you can of course set this to any ip or range for example 24.24.*
This also works for the secure port using securelistenhost: (I think that's the spelling but didn't check.)

did you already change your ip and host?
if not, do the following instructions:
* verify your hostname
- uname -a
- cat /etc/nodename
both should show your hostname
* alter your hostname
- uname -S newname
* verify the hostname
- uname -a
- cat /etc/nodename
both should show your newname
* edit /etc/hostname.ce0 (type ce0 depends on your net device)
- echo 'newname' > /etc/hostname.ce0
* verify /etc/hostname.ce0
- cat /etc/hostname.ce0
should show your newname
* edit the following files
- /etc/net/ticlts/hosts
- /etc/net/ticots/hosts
- /etc/net/ticotsord/hosts
replace old with new hostname
* edit /etc/inet/hosts
replace ip and hostname
* you have to look for
- /etc/inet/networks
- /etc/inet/netmask
fit yout data
After doing all changes you have to reboot your system.
Use ipconfig to verify network data

To change the iCloud ID on your devices you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted (if using iOS 7), then sign back in with your current ID.
If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, you will have to temporarily recreate it in order to delete the existing account. To do this, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll. Your payment method must be associated withe same country where you reside in order to update your apps.

As reported in earlier threads on this forum, DSEE 6.0 IS NOT a release you should use in your production environment, specially if you're starting new projects; consider moving at least to the latest 6.x release which is 6.3.1.1.1

Changing the Name of an Open Directory Server while preserving users, etc.

Hi Everyone,
Not an emergency - but I have been wrestling with this dilemma for almost a year now.
The good news is nothing has to be done right away. But I will ultimately need a solution.
We have inherited a server system at a traditional elementary school from a previous IT person who was immature to say the least.
When he set up the server system, he named the open directory server something that, while innocuous is inappropriate for a school setting. I am sure he thought it was clever and cheeky at the time. But a few years later it is simply unprofessional. And we are being expected to ultimately be able to change it so something like "XXXdirectory.domainname.edu" The more it hangs around - the longer it looks like we did this and it makes us look unprofessional.
So here is my dilemma.
This is an OD Master with iCal and network homes attached to it. It also runs DNS.
I would like to set up a new server and name it "xxxdirectory.schooldomainname.edu"
Setting up the new server is easy and getting all the client machines to bind to it - no problem.
The problem is how to migrate all the users to the new server. It seems a restore wont work because if the new server is named differently, the restore will fail. I also can't do a server migration because the stupid name migrates to the new server.
My old server is 10.5.8 Server. The new one is 10.7.1 Server . But could be 10.6.8 Server if need be.
The main problem is how do I get all the accounts onto a new server with a new OD master name?
I don't mind command line stuff. So throw whatever you got at me.
Thanks in advance for your help everyone. Don't worry - I won't be a pain in the butt or argue. I just need some good solid guidance, even if it is a "Not possible" answer - at least I have something to tell the administration when they want to know why we can't change the OD Master name from mcnugget.schoolname.edu.

If you don't mind resetting everybodies password then you can export the users and groups and wipe the server for a clean install or turn it into a standalone server then back into od master then import the users and groups.

I tho't there was a thread on this subject, but it seems to have disappeared. Anyway....
Our network uses 192.168.1.0/24. We are now trying to set up OpenVPN but have "discovered" (what someone must have known) that it will not work from the outside from any location that is also using 192.168.1.0/24. If I had known that prior to setting up the new servers, it would have been somewhat easy to make a transition to another subnet for the internal network. (Why doesn't the documentation explain this a little better?) Now to change internal subnets will also require changing IP address on 2 SBE servers, 5 printers, a Win server, etc. It seems that common opinion about changing IP addresses on Linux is "don't try it."
If anyone has any suggestions, great. If not, then perhaps someone can pass this on to Novell so that others might be aware of this issue.

At this time, the OES2/SP2 script does not know about NOWS SBE. All I can say is Novell NTS is aware of the issue and so far there is no resolution.
You can open a Service Request and I suggest you do so. When several SR's are opened against the same issue it gives it more visibility and will attract more attention relative to other issues.

We just switched over a DNS server by using ifconfig, (same subnet), and killing named. seems to be working fine, anything I should look out for ?
steps:
Prep -
- change name in /etc/hostname.e1000g0
- change name and IP in /etc/hosts and /etc/nodename
- # uname -S dnsint02
Activate
- unplug old dnsint02
# ifconfig e1000g0 192.168.2.80
# kill -9 [PID of named]
Cleanup
- Remove old key on clients I SSH from.
- reconfigure backup software for new name/server combo.

Our home address changed and our AMEX card identity has been stolen. So when i edit to change my address and AMEX number it won't let me and get this message: "YOUR SESSION HAS TIMED OUT. TRY AGAIN. How do I access the store to change my account????

We moved and our address has changed. Also our AMEX card identity has been stolen twice and AMEX has changed our number and security code twice already. Now i am trying to edit my account at Itunes. Every time I try to edit our account at Itunes, I get this message: "YOUR SESSION HAS TIMED OUT. TRY AGAIN" Anything i am doing wrong? How do I get to the accounting department without getting this message?

I am having this problem too. I recently changed ISP b/c I wanted the iPhone, so I had to update my iTunes username to my Gmail account.
In fact, I logged in HERE using it as my new Apple Id... so it works!
But for some **** reason that is driving me nuts my iPhone will not connect to the iTunes store using my new Apple Id. It keeps saying my email has changed or is invalid and asks me to sign in to change it. So I do that, and it lets me in USING MY NEW Apple ID!!!! Then I go back out to the buy the App and the madness starts all over.
Come on Apple, do you want me to buy your apps, or what?

Try putting the device in Airplane mode, may not work.
A restore of the device may be necessary. If Find My iPhone is enabled, it would be necessary to wipe the device via www.icloud.com if unable to disable the feature on the device.
Ideally, the user would delete the iCloud account on the device prior to changing the email account linked to it. Simply changing the password should not have resulted in this issue. It is most likely the combo of changing the email and password.

Hey you guys! I recently changed the email address that I was using for my iCloud. Now my iPhone still has the iCloud information with my old email address, and to change that, it appears that I have to delete the iCloud account and re-add it. The only problem is: when I try to delete the account, it asks me for my iCloud password, but it's still linked to the old email address, so even though my password is correct, the email address no longer is, and thus it tells me that the password is incorrect, and I can't delete the account, and reconfigure iCloud on my phone. If you mean that Find My Phone is asking for a password to a different Apple ID to your current Apple ID and that ID is a previous version of your current ID, not an entirely different one.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details and some other circumstances.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device. It may take a short while to remove the account.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

Ipad is showing connected to wifi but it is saying its not connected to internet. I have reset all settings, tried to change IP address and subnet mask and nothing is working.

2. Turn off router for 30 seconds and on again.
3. Re-boot iPad.
