CHANGING IP ADDRESS OF A LAPTOP AFTER CHANGING IP ADDRESS OF WIRELESS ROUTER CONNECTED TO DSL MODEM

DO YOU HAVE TO CHANGE TO CHANGE THE IP ADDRESS OF THE LAPTOP CONNECTED WIRELESS AFTER CHANGING THE WIRELESS  ROUTER'S IP ADDRESS TO 192.168,2,1 BECAUSE DSL MODEM USES 192.168.1.1, THE WIRELESS ROUTER IS IN A DIFFERENT SUBNET FROM THE DSL MODEM

Your laptop will find the correct IP address automatically.

  • Netsh does not work to set IP address of "Wireless Network Connection"

    On Windows 7 Professional
This set of commands work for configuring the "Local Area Connection"
netsh interface ip set address name="local area connection" static 74.94.87.157 255.255.255.248 74.94.87.158 1
netsh interface ip set dns name="local area connection" static 8.8.8.8
netsh interface ip add dns name="local area connection" 68.87.77.130 index=2
BUT for the WiFi connection, this command errors with this message "ELEMENT NOT FOUND"
netsh interface ip set address name="Wireless Network Connection" static 74.94.87.157 255.255.255.248 74.94.87.158 1
BUT the 2 following dns commands DO work for the Wifi Connection.
netsh interface ip set dns name="Wireless Network Connection" static 8.8.8.8
netsh interface ip add dns name="Wireless Network Connection" 68.87.77.130 index=2

    I FOUND A SOLUTION
I manually renamed the interface from "Wireless Network Connection" to "Wifi"
Then when I use "WiFi" in the command line, I no longer get the
    ELEMENT NOT FOUND error.
I have no idea why renaming the interface works . . as shown on original post above, "set dns name" command worked without the name change, but the "IP set Address" did not work.
Anybody know what this is about ?

  • Router connected to cable modem by Ethernet port cannot get IP address from DHCP.

I have an ethernet cable on Fa0/0 connecting my 1841 router to my cable modem. The issue is that the router cannot obtain an IP address via DHCP when I have the "ACL-OUTSIDE-IN" ACL applied inbound on the Fa0/0 interface. I tried to allow all BOOTP and BOOTPS traffic in my ACL, but still no luck. I really don't want to run the router without a simple ACL firewall and connect it to the internet. When I take off the ACL off of Fa0/0, the router is able to get an IP address via DHCP.

  • Laptop won't reconnect to home wireless FiOS connection after using Verizon Wireless connection

I have a laptop that I've had connected to my home FiOS Internet connection without problems in the past. Now, when I leave the house and use my Verizon wireless stick to connect to the Internet and then return home the laptop no longer connects to the home wireless network. Any ideas? I've already:
    Rebooted the laptop
    Rebooted the router
Viewed the settings for the laptop connection on the router info page
    Thanks.

    Hello,
If your internet connection at home is working fine using a wired connection (using an ethernet cable) to the router and you're only having trouble connecting wirelessly, then I would recheck the network settings on your laptop:
    http://www22.verizon.com/support/residential/internet/fiosinternet/networking/setup/addwireless/1265...
The important part of this process is ensuring that you're selecting the right network name (SSID) for your home residential wifi network and entering the corresponding encryption key.
If you need additional help, please call Verizon's Technical Support department at 1-888- 553-1555.

  • Wireless router connection problems after ICS update

    Good Morning (sort of)
I just got ICS on my Thunderbolt and now the wifi connection cycle between "save", "obtaining ip address" and "connected".
It will not stay connected. I've forgotten the connection and reestablished it to no avail. The connection is WEP to support
    a couple of old devices.
Any help would be greatly appreciated - I have a home server that I now can no longer connect to because it's on the LAN side
of the router and my phone is not.

I've been having the same problems keeping a wifi connection (both at home and work) since I upgraded to ICS as well. I just tried the "forget" (as suggested in this post) here at work and it seems to be working better now--connected for about 30mins now. I'll have to try this when I get home tonight. Thanks!

  • Intermittent IP Address through Wireless

I am having problems maintaining an IP address to PC's connected to network through wireless.
Setup: Comcast cable modem into Linksys BEFSR11 cable router.  Three PC's connected through CAT 5 to this router.  Linksys WAP54G wireless routed connected to BEDSR11 router by CAT 5.  Three laptops + one desktop connected through the wireless router.  All working for a couple of years.
The wireless WAP54G router is located on third floor.  One desktop + one laptop is used in the basement two floors below.  This has caused some intermittent range problems.
Recent Change: Installed 6 weeks ago a Linksys WRE54G range extender in the basement to boost the signal.  Setup up and working fine.
Issue: Approximately once or twice a week one of the PC's connected through the wireless network will lose its IP address.  Most often when just rebooted.
Work-a-Round: Only way to resolve is to shut down every PC on the network (wireless or hardwired) and shutdown the extender, wireless router, & regular router.  Then restart in the order of BEFSR11, WAP54G, WRE54G.  After which all PC's can be booted and all will pickup up an IP fine.
Would like to find a solution that does not involve rebooting the entire network as this is about a 20 minutes process.  Any feedback would be helpful.  Thanks!

If earlier the connection is working fine...... check the Firmware of the Range Extender ..... Also make sure that after upgrade you will reset & reconfigure the router.....

  • Adding a Mac laptop to the network... won't connect

I admit that I suck at setting up wireless networks and I am a complete idiot when it comes to Macs and compatibility, so bear with me.
I set up my oldish WRT54GS router in our apartment and it connected fine with my desktop running XP.  I set up the WEP keys and gave it to my roommate so that she could have access as well.  She's on a brand new Mac notebook. She typed in the key correctly (the key worked for me) and she only gets a "connection failed" message.  No error messages, just that the connection failed.   My desktop is running on wireless too (the DSL is in the living room) so I tend to think it's not the router or our DSL modem.
Do I need to install LELA on her notebook to get it to connect?  If so, do I just have her download the driver from the website? Also, could it be her firewall that is blocking the connection?
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Readjust the wireless settings on your router :
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
    - Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
    - Set the Wireless channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bit.Leave the passphrase blank, don't type in anything...
Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters eg: your 10 digit phone number) and click on save settings...
Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • DSL Modem will not give me an IP address

I keep getting the amber flashing light when I am connected to my DSL modem. Airport Utility says that I am not getting a Valid IP address from my modem. My Linksys wireless router works fine, I even tried connected my Linksys travel router to my DSL modem and it worked fine. I can't see any obvious ip conflics either. I have read almost every post in this forum and tried everthing with no luck.
I have figured out a work around, if I plug my AE(n) into one of my ethernet ports on my Linksys router it immediatly gets a valid ip and the light turns green and I am conneced to the internet.
I really don't want to be running both routers and wireless networks and would rather plug the AE(n) directly into my DSL modem.
I would be grateful for any ideas.
    MBP C2D 2.33 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   3gb ram, 160gb HD

I have the same problem, but don't have the benefit of a router workaround.
Two separate flavors of the problem...
    1. I have tried manually setting the IP address, and adding subnet/router addresses as well as DNS server addresses. Copied them all from my original AE to the new one. Interestingly the new AE status light will turn green when IP address is configured manually, but can't get to the internet despite the color of the light. When I try to launch Safari or Firefox, it just times out, never getting to the homepage.
    2. Went back and configured with DHCP (as I have on the old AE for over a year.) When it restarts, the new AE just sits and stares at me with its blinking amber light. Tried again and ran level 7 debug logging and there's no indication of what went wrong. Just that frustrating blinking amber light and the error message that my base station has an incorrect IP address.
In either case, I can unplug the new AE, reconnect the old and I'm immediately back in business.
Have tried the above after shutting down, unplugging, starting from scratch with every possible permutation I could think of. Still no dice.
    Ideas/help??

  • DNS Error when adding another laptop to wireless router

I have a laptop running Vista networked to my wireless router.  I want to add another laptop running XP to the network via a Belkin Wireless NIC.  It makes the connection OK, but when I launch IE it returns "Cannot find server or DNS Error" and does not load the web page regardless of which site I try to connect to.  I have tried porting the IE software from the Vista laptop and that did not work.  I tried to connect to the Verizon router address using an Ethernet cable, but it could not access the router.  I downloaded the Inhome Agent and used the software from it to no avail.  I have been on the phone several times with Verizon to verify the IE Options setttings and procedures, but they are not able to help.  I have no problem accessing the Internet from a public WiFi site.  I'm sure it is something simple to fix.  Anyone have a solution?

You should verify your ip configuration.  To do so go to the command prompt:
It can be found under start, then type run
    or
    Click start
    programs
    accessories
    command prompt
    now type: ipconfig /all |more
Look for your wireless card and reply back with the following:
     IP Address
     Subnet Mask
     Default Gateway
     DHCP Server
     DNS Servers

  • Itunes was deleted from laptop after changing credit card info and password.  How do I get it back along with all songs that was on my account

itunes was deleted from laptop after changing credt card infor and password.  How do I get it back along with all of its contents?

I suspect unless he had some items in iCloud backup then they are gone.  Connecting an iPhone to a different library from that to which it was previously connected will result in the device asking if you want to erase it.

  • My ipad recognizes my home network but will not connect to the internet. When I click on AirPort/preferences at the top of the imac screen it says..."AirPort has a self-assigned ip address and may not connect to the internet".How can I change ip address?

My ipad recognizes my home network but will not connect to the internet. When I click on AirPort/preferences at the top of the imac screen it says..."AirPort has a self-assigned ip address and may not connect to the internet". If this is the root of the problem, how can I change ip address?
Ipad will connect no problem to other networks.

First thing you need I think is to get your iMac connected to the Internet.
Shut down your iMac and you iPad. Then power off your router. Wait 30 seconds and power up the router.
After the router indicates that it is connected to the Internet then start up your iMac and see if it connects. If the iMac connects to the Internet then your iPad should too.
If this power up sequence doesn't work you'll have to dig into the router setup to make sure it is working properly.

  • Airport express won't work after changing wireless router

I used to have a Netgear router, but changed it last night for the o2 wireless router. But now I've lost my itunes airtunes connections on my airport express'. I cant locate the Airport Express Assistant despite having the CDs that came with the AEs.
Does anyone know where to locate a download for the Airport Express Assistant?

The utility wouldn't even detect the Airport Express, until it had been reset.
