Changing  pitch....

Forgive me, you will have to talk to me like I am an idiot with audio stuff....because I am! lol
I sold my father inlaw my Powerbook, his first mac, in large part because of the audio he wants to do.
So he asked me in GarageBand how does he change pitch....well the only thing I can find is how to change the Master Pitch on the Master Track.
He wants to take one track and change the pitch. Can that be done?
And if not what is the work around since he says this is standardly done for music creation is must be possible.
And please if you respond can it be step by step (for an idiot remember, video is my thing) so I can in turn be able ot tell him?
Thansk in advance.

Great, thank you I see that, but I have to ask, as I know what he is going to ask me.
He is new to working with a computer and music, and he is old school, and how do you know what you changed the pitch too? Forgive my lack of musical lingo, but shouldn't you have more to go by + or - the numbers? Is that typically how one would denote things musically?
Thanks again. That is a big help

How do you make audio fast without changing pitch?

PrPro may have that but I've always just gone over to Audition ... you change speed there, you're given a choice of keeping the pitch the same or allow it to change. Note ... if there's much cha ge in speed the result can be odd.

  • Change pitch

How to change pitch with my MIDI keyboard? I wanna hear something from the CD and write it down but the MIDI is a little to high and that makes it harder for me....

Midi transpose will not help you. Midi is only sent when you press (or release a key) so unless you retrigger there is no midi to transpose. If I understand what you want to do, you'll need to transpose the audio not the midi. That is what the pitch wheel does but it changes the pitch continuously so it doesn't really transpose. However, you could program a midi encoder (a rotary controller on the keyboard for example) to send specific midi cc100 & cc101 values to vary pitch in increments.  For that you'll need to use Logic Environment or some other midi 'programming' tool.

  • Shorten duration w/o changing pitch?

I'm trying to match Spanish voice-overs to English and most are too long. Is there a way to speed up my Spanish track without changing pitch? (It would be even better if I could do it FCP since I have many clips to manage.)
    Hope someone can help.

    A reasonable question. I'll check.
I've taken a different tack since I first wrote. I'm revising the Spanish version alternately by A. speeding up the Spanish VO in FCP, with an AU Pitch filter applied and/or B. lengthening the video scene.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • How to change an audio clip's speed without changing pitch

is there a simple way to change an audio clip's speed without changing the pitch in FCP? thanks

Can't do it inside FCP, but you can in Soundtrack Pro.
Another option is Amazing Slow Downer http://www.ronimusic.com/

  • How do I stop my audio from changing pitch when moving it to another track?

I read up a bit on the "Flex" settings, however, I can't seem to turn it completely off. The flex button is not engaged, however, when I move audio from one track to another, the pitch changes. How do I stop this completely?

You have to disable it on the tracks themselves too. The 'main' flex button only turns on and off Flex view, and not flex itself.
    Flex view on, track flexed
Flex view off, track flexed (or not?)
Flex view on, track not flexed

  • CHANGING PITCH to already existing mixed track

I want to import an instrumental background music track into a program and change the pitch. I can't find a way to do it in Garage Band. What's my best bet for doing this without having to buy an expensive program?

    best bet, an audio editor:

  • How do you Change Pitch but not Tempo in Time Machine?

I have an imported  audio aiff  which i want to put up by 200 cents - the Pitch transposes fine but the Tempo of the track increases.
How do I set Time and Pitch Machine to keep the Tempo the same? In the Tempo Origin and Destination boxes the figure is the same - still Pre Listen shows the Tempo has gone up...
NB I tried 'Detect Tempo' and the audio track to establish the tempo - it said 102bpm  ( i.e. not the tempo of the the logic document sequence.. the audio track bears no relation to the existing tempo of 120bpm in the Arrange) I put that Tempo 102bpm into Original and Destination boxes. Still the Tempo did not remain the same

It shouldn't change the tempo if you just change the pitch destination.
I tried it, and when I shift a track 200 cents up WITHOUT changing the tempo section, it does exactly that. No tempo changes.
    Mode: Free
    Algoritm: Universal
This is in Logic X btw.
PS: if you do keep getting this problem, why not use the Logic pitch shifter?

  • Changing Pitch in Garage Band without Echo/Noise

Hi, I am making an audio recording in Garage Band.  Just a voice over for a spec TVC.  I am using an Audio Technica USB mic to narrate.  I would like to change the pitch of my voice to -40 cents, but I am finding it turns it very echoy and adds a bit of a humming noise to certain words.  Any help, greatly appreciated, thanks!

Garageband has to do all its effects on the fly, while playing back the track. To achieve a better effect, you might take your recording to an audio editor like Audacity, apply the pitch change there, and re-import the altered audio into GB.

  • Change Pitch of Recording

I have in GB an old vocal and guitar recording (when I could still sing) and it appears that I recorded it slightly out of pitch. I want to add tracks to it, lets say bass etc.. Can I change the pitch of the original vocal and if so how?

  • Change pitch of midi instruments

    Hello
What is the best way to change the pitch of midi instruments to match source recording of acoustic guitar and voices?
    thanks

    Hi Jordi!
What are you doing slumming it here my friend?
Anyhow.. for the OP.. If you go to the Instrument Properties tab in the Play Engine... you can fine tune the instruments there.. which would probably be a lot easier than messing around with your own audio files
See page 57 of the Play 4 System manual for further info....

  • Change pitch on internal microphone.

    Hi guys,
I need to change the pitch for the input on the internal microphone. It needs to be actively converting the pitch so I can hear myself with a different pitched voice. I need this feature for my work as I'm currently in the process of writing a draft script, so to aid the editors experience I would like to record the different parts with different pitches (thus making a series of characters) anyway, this is beside the point. Is there any easy way of changing the pitch of whatever comes through my mic?
    Thanks,
    Mike

Generally you record a standard waveform and then alter it to have a higher pitch, as opposed to altering the input itself. You can do this with GarageBand, if you ahve it installed. Just start a new voice project then select the input track and click the "Real Instrument" section of the sidebar, followed by clicking the "Edit" tab. In here click one of the empty rectangles and add the "AUPitch" filter. Then click the icon for the filter and you can change the pitch and other features that the filter offers. In addition to a basic pitch option, you can use others like the "Speech Enhancer", and "Vocal Transformer" filters to adjust vocals.

  • Change pitch of track

How do I change the pitch of an individual track in my project? I have a track I've imported from mp3 file, and I'd like to transpose it up a major second while maintaining all the other track's pitches.
    Thanks,
    -Ben

Oh, I figured it out - Smart controls, plugins, AU Pitch.

  • How can i change the tempo of a track without changing pitch?

I did this before but for the life of me can't figure out how i did it. Usually when I change the tempo (BPM), the recorded tracks sound warbly. But on some of my projects, this doesn't happen even though they're "real" sound recordings.
Both projects are using Groove Fix and under "Pitch" I have "Follow tempo and pitch" checked off. Why is one project
changing tempo seamlessly while the other project is warbling along? Automatic tuning is not the issue because neither project is enabled for that.
    Thanks,
    Steve

The reason some files sound funny and others don't is because audio is handled a few different in Garageband depending on it's source (audio your recorded vs Apple Loops vs non Apple Loop pre recorded audio). Each of these have different color regions with different properties.  I just found this thread that might better explain it:

    I hope that helps!
