Changing SSIS package owner

I'm ready to deploy my packages, do I have change the owner from developer to sa or dba? If yes can someone guide me how to do that and are there any other things I have to take care of like Protection level (which is presently set to EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey
sree

No, we don't change the package owner info when deploying among different environments.
If your package has some connection strings that have password or any other sensitive info in the package, it will be encrypted with your user key. If the package is deployed to other environment, it will failed because it will  not be able to decrypt
the password\sensitive values. So you will have to use some other protection level (most common Encrypt Sensitive With Password) and have sensitive values password protected. When it will be deployed to another environment, share the password with them.

  • SQL Server Agent running SSIS package fails Unable to determine if the owner of job has server access

I have a web application developed through VS 2012 which has a button on a form that when operated starts a SQL Server agent job on the server that runs an SSIS package.  The website and the instance of SQL Server with the agent and SSIS package are
on the same windows 2008 r2 server.  When the button is operated no exceptions are raised but the SSIS package did not execute.
When I look in the logfileviewer at the job history of the sql server agent job I see that the job failed with message...
The job failed.  Unable to determine if the owner (DOMAINNAME\userid) of job runWebDevSmall has server access (reason: Could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user 'DOMAINNAME\userid'<c/> error code 0x6e. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 15404)).,00:00:00,0,0,,,,0
...even though DOMAINNAME\userid is in the logins for the sql server and has admin authorities.
Could someone show me what I need to do to get this to run?  Thanks tonnes in advance for any help, Roscoe

This can happen when the network is too slow to allow a timely completion of the verification. Or the account running has no such right.
I suggest you try using the SA account for the job as it does not require to poll the AD.

  • Can't change the connection string of SSIS package with derived columns?

We upgraded SQL server 2008 to 2012, copied and converted all SSIS packages from Visual Studio 2008 to 2010.  When I opened a package in VS 2010 and tried to change the connection string, in the local connection managers, if the data source is another
SSIS package B(.dtsx file) with derived columns, I can't change the connection string of package B. When I opened the file connection manager editor for package B and tried to locate a dtsx file in another location, saved the change, reopened the project.
Package B still pointed to previous file.  Other packages without derived columns work fine. Any thoughts?

We are using the package deployment model and refer to other packages in the same project. If
we changed the path of package B (with derived columns) to "D:\Visual Studio 2010\xxxx", and refer it in package A, in the A's connection manager, the connection string of package B is still its previous location  "D:\Visual
Studio 2008\xxxx". When we ran the package A in the SQL server agent, the data source is still
     "D:\Visual
Studio 2008\xxxx", so how can I change it to "D:\Visual
Studio 2010\xxxx"? Why has the package C (without derived columns) no such problem? thanks.

  • Trying to understand how to make a change to a SSIS package

I was pretty familiar with DTS packages but SSIS packages have me completely lost.
Let me start by saying we use TFS (Team Foundation Server) and Visual Studio 2010 for source control and development.
I have to make a change which is very simple. I have to add a new field to an export file.
My problem is I dont know what SSIS is or what all the components mean and what they are used for. I have no clue where to make this change. Does SSIS have any concept of 'source code'. How would an export file layout be defined and where would I look for
it? I have read something about a 'manifest file' but again I don't know what it is or what it is used for or where I could find it.
I have to make this change in TFS via Visual Studio but I don't see anything in the solution that looks like the SSIS stuff I need. If it is not there, I need to find it (on the production server maybe?) and add it to TFS.
Is there a good online tutorial that explains all this? I tried the Microsoft ones and they are impossible to follow since they consist of dozens of links that completely tie you in knots.

As of SQL Server 2012, SSIS catalogs are used for package version control, management and execution. Packages can be recovered from the catalog for edition and redeployment. It doesn't have a "source code". Which version of SQL Server are you using?
Please note that your questions are kind of comprehensive and generic. There are no single formulas for package edition. Wether adding a new column to your file layout will be transparent to the package depends on its implementation and flow. As a general
rule, you'll have to manually add the new column to each input and output of each source, transformation and destination tasks in your data flow.
Follow these instructions to download a package from your SSIS catalog in SQL Server 2012. I think its the same process for SS 2014.

  • SSIS Package Fails when Scheduled as a SQL Server Agent Job

I have an SSIS package that runs without any problems when executed through BIDS.
However, when I schedule the SSIS as an Agent job, it fails completely or part way through. When it partially runs, the part that it is failing on is a Script Task that moves the source data file to an archive folder (on the same server).
I have tried using my domain account as the owner of the job, then the job fails straight off and I get an error:
Unable to determine if the owner (Domain\MyID) of job JobName has server access (reason: Could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user 'Domain\MyID'
If I change the owner to the 'sa' account , then the job partially runs, but then fails because 'sa' is a SQL account and does not have access to the filesystem.
I have managed to get it to work by using the SQL2008_Local account and granting modify permissions to the affected folders.
My question is - what is the advised way of doing this?
    Thanks
    Gary

    Hi Garyv.King,
When you see a SSIS package fails running in a SQL Agent job, you need to first consider the following conditions:
    1. The user account that is used to run the package under SQL Server Agent differs from the original package author.
    2. The user account does not have the required permissions to make connections or to access resources outside the SSIS package.
For more detailed information about the issue, please following this KB article:
An SSIS package does not run when you call the SSIS package from a SQL Server Agent job step
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918760
You can check SQL Server Agent’s activity logs, Windows Event logs and SSIS logs to get more clues. Also the tool Process Monitor is helpful to track the cause of registry or file access related issues.
The following 4 issues are common encountered in the SSIS forum.
    1. The package's Protection Level is set to EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey but your SQL Server Agent service account is different from the SSIS package creator.
    2. Data source connection issue.
    3. File or registry access permission issue.
    4. No 64-bit driver issue.

matter of days. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated!</p>

I submitted this issue above and now I am having the same problem again. I am using the same local computer, the same operating system (WinXp v 5.1.2600 SP3 Build 2600) as originally described. I am working with the same SSIS package that
writes multiple query results (reports) to an excel spreadsheet. This package has been successfully executed multiple times, but now I am suddenly getting the same error as follows:
Error at 1ConversionContacts [Connection manager "Excel Connection Manager"]: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR.  An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005.
An OLE DB record is available.  Source: "Microsoft Access Database Engine"  Hresult: 0x80004005  Description: "Unspecified error".
Error at DFlow Write soft deleted duplicate claims to Excel sheet [Excel Destination - write duplicate claim nbrs that have been removed to Excel [61]]: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_CANNOTACQUIRECONNECTIONFROMCONNECTIONMANAGER.  The AcquireConnection method
call to the connection manager "Excel Connection Manager" failed with error code 0xC0202009.  There may be error messages posted before this with more information on why the AcquireConnection method call failed.
The package will not run because of these multiple errors (multiple because it occurs on every single excel destination in the package).
I have Run64BitRuntime set to false on the project. I have triple checked that the excel file name (which I created and can access) exists with the correct name in the correct path, which is local on my machine. The file is the same file in the same
location as when the package worked.  I am running the SSIS service under my own network login, as I was when the package worked. I have been consistently getting this same error whenever I change my network password without updating the password
in the SSIS service, but I have triple verified that the service is using my latest password. If I try to open and edit the Excel Destination in any DataFlow task I get the same error. I can successfully create a new Excel Connection Manager pointing
to the same excel file. However if I try to assign the newly created Excel Connection Manager in the data flow, I cannot activate the drop down to choose the Excel sheet without getting an 'Unspecified error' message. I then swapped out
the file with its template version, and ensured the name was updated as correct. I still get the same errors.
Oh, and the SSIS package is extracting data from a SQL Server 2008 database with an ADO.net Connection Manager using Windows authentication. I have no problems with the SQL Server connection, it has always worked and still does.  It is only
the connection to excel output file which is locally stored on my machine.
Has anyone got any suggestions for me?

  • Is there any way to control the zoom factor so that when my SSIS Package is opened, it is entirely visible within Visual Studio?

I have formatted my SSIS Package beautifully, if I do say so myself, so that all my tasks are visible at 50% zoom. However, when I close my project and then re-open it in Visual Studio, it defaults back to 100%...YUK!
I did find this post which didn't seem to work...even to the point that no where within my xml could I even find the "PersistedZoom" Parameter. I even tried manually adding it, I couldn't find the exact syntax on it, and that didn't even work.
    1. In BIDS (Visual Studio) first close all open SSIS packages / xml files to avoid confusion ...
    2. Right click on the SSIS package and select the "View Code" menu item. (to open the actual xml)
    3. Search for all instances of "PersistedZoom" and change the value directly to the right of it to 100 (mine
    was 80 or 90 ...)
    4. Now save and close the XML file.
    5. Now open the SSIS package in the designer, you will notice that it is still scrolled to the bottom right!
    6. Now make any small change (I scrolled to the top-left and just slightly moved a task)
    7. Now save and close the designer
    8. Re-open the SSIS package in the designer! and what do you know it does not start scrolled down to the bottom right anymore!
Let me know if you still have issues - but as I said I followed this same process on all my problem packages and they ALL now open correctly.
I noticed that after doing all this the PersistedZoom property disappeared from the xml, which leads me to believe that if I zoom in and out of my packages again it will probably get stuck by opening to the bottom right again ...
Can anyone help me out with this?
Thanks for your review and am hopeful for a reply.
    PSULionRP

There is no way to preserve view preferences.Just remember or annotate the zoom % used in the package.
You may want to open an MS Connect item asking to add such a feature.
I can tell you it may not be implemented because a package may be opened on different size monitors.

Can anyone help for this error.
    Many thanx in Advance

    Hi Babloo,
According to the error message, the package may have failed are as follows:
The user account that is used to run the package under SQL Server Agent in PRODUCTION server differs from the original package author.
The user account does not have the required permissions to make connections or to access resources outside the SSIS package.
The package may not run in the following scenarios:
The current user cannot decrypt secrets from the package. This scenario can occur if the current account or the execution account differs from the original package author, and the package's ProtectionLevel property setting does not let the current user
decrypt secrets in the package. In this scenario, we can change the SSIS Package ProtectionLevel property to EncryptSensitiveWithPassword, then modify the SQL Server Agent job step command line to include this password.
File access fails because the current user does not have the required permissions to write to the file share that the connection manager accesses. In this scenario, we can create a SQL Server Agent proxy account. This proxy account must use a credential
that lets SQL Server Agent run the job as the account that created the package or as an account that has the required permissions.

  • Error while executing SSIS package - Error: 4014, Severity:20, State: 11. A fatal error occurred while reading the input stream from the network. The session will be terminated (input error: 109, output error: 0)

    Hi,
We are getting the following error when running our SSIS packages on Microsoft SQL Server 2012 R2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1:
Error: 4014, Severity:20, State: 11.   A fatal error occurred while reading the input stream from the network. The session will be terminated (input error: 109, output error: 0)
SQL Server Data Tools and SQL Server Database Engine reside on the same server.
    We tried the following:
    Disabling TCP Chimney Offload
    Installed Windows Server 2008 SP1
Splitting our SSIS code into multiple steps so it is not all one large continuous operation
The error occurs during a BulkDataLoad task.
Other options we are investigating with the engineering team (out-sourced, so delayed responses):
Firewall configurations (everything is local, so this should not make a difference)
    Disabling the anti-virus scanner
Are there other things we can try?
    Any insight is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi HenryKwan,
Based on the current information, the issue can be caused by many reasons. Please refer to the following tips:
Install the latest hotfix based on your SQL Server version. Ps: there is no SQL Server 2012 R2 version.
Change the MaxConcurrentExecutables property from -1 to another one based on the MAXDOP. For example, 8.
Set "RetainSameConnection" Property to FALSE on the all the connection managers.
    Reference:

If the issue is still existed, as Jakub suggested, please provide us more information about this issue.

Do you have any Date conversion functions in your Oracle datetime fields? I did run into a similar issue when we upgraded the oracle client and the provider started to decipher the metadata of the date columns. The SSIS metadata conversion for the date
columns yielded dates that were not valid. I had to update my queries to use the TO_CHAR conversion to bring it out as a string and then save it to the date field.
    TO_CHAR (DATE, 'MM/DD/YYYY HH24:MI:SS')

current project if some one is coming to this project later they need to change the credential with their NT account and run the JOB? Is this right way or we an create any other account in common? If so how?

  • SSIS package give an error if execute through SQL server agent

I have created a SSIS package in BIDS 2012. If i execute this package through sql server agent it gives the below error:
Executed as user: NT Service\SQLSERVERAGENT. Microsoft (R) SQL Server Execute Package Utility  Version 11.0.2100.60 for 64-bit  Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.    Started:  11:19:47 AM  Error: 2015-01-20

so i have change some properties in our package like protectionlevel change from encrypted to dontsavesensitive. After that i have created configuration file for the package and use that configuration file. It executes the package through sql server agent
    smoothly.
    Thanks

    Hi selfdestruct80,
According to your description, you created SSIS package and it works fine. But you got the error message when the SSIS package was called from a SQL Server Agent job.
According to my knowledge, the package may not run in the following scenarios:
The current user cannot decrypt secrets from the package.
A SQL Server connection that uses integrated security fails because the current user does not have the required permissions.
File access fails because the current user does not have the required permissions to write to the file share that the connection manager accesses.
A registry-based SSIS package configuration uses the HKEY_CURRENT_USER registry keys. The HKEY_CURRENT_USER registry keys are user-specific.
A task or a connection manager requires that the current user account has correct permissions.
According to the error message, the SSIS Package ProtectionLevel property to EncryptSensitiveWithPassword as ArthurZ mentioned. To solve the problem, you need to go to Command Line tab, manually specify the paassword in SQL Agent Job with the command like below:
    /FILE "\"C:\Users\xxxx\Documents\SQL Server Management Studio\SSIS\Package.dtsx\"" /DECRYPT somepassword /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING E
If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.

  • SSIS Package fails in the middle of the execution with some error

    Hi ALL,
I have an SSIS Package which basically loops across various files and various sheets and loads that data into a SQL table.Lets say i have 50 files it loads randomly somewhere around 30 and suddenly fails in the middle with the following error
[Excel Source [1]] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_CANNOTACQUIRECONNECTIONFROMCONNECTIONMANAGER.
The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "Excel" failed with error code 0xC0202009.
I have no idea what this mean, i googled around and saw that i need to change the debugging properties from TRUE to FALSE, i did that but no use.
Can someone please explain me what could be the reason for this one to be happening and how can i get around this one?
    Thanks.

    Hi Patrick,
The link you gave above helped me to achieve what i exactly want. I am using multiple processes to load the files now.
It really sucks that there is no solution for this one.But glad i am able to work it in different way.
Thanks a lot for your reply.
    Not sure if its related
I've had similar error recently while working with ACE provider and these steps helped me to fix it

  • SSIS Package will only run as SQL Agent Job when I have remote desktop to server open.

Hey guys, so I have another problem to add to the already massive 'SSIS/SQL Server Agent Job' pile. After days of searching, I can't seem to find anything specific to my problem though.
The setup is as follows: a SSIS package that refreshes and saves excel files that are hosted on a server. The package runs fine on the local machine, using BIDS on the server, and will even work as a SQL Agent Job on the server IF there is a remote
desktop connection to the server. To elaborate, if I simply run the job as you would normally do it will fail and give the below error. If I run the job while either myself, or a different machine, has a remote desktop connection to the server where the
job is scheduled - it will run successfully.
Below is the error from the History File of the job. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    UPDATE:
In my previous post the Identity in DCOM Config file for Microsoft Excel was set as The Interactive User. The job was working only when I had a remote connection to the server open.
If I set the Identity to 'This User' and use the username and password of the server login account, it will work as a scheduled job without needing an open remote connection to the server. So it works, great! but I have reservations setting this
for all instances of Excel for the server. I'm sure other users have different accounts they use for running Excel. Any suggestions around this?

    Hi LiamSexton,
It should be the server-side Automation of Office issue described in the following KB article:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/257757
Microsoft does not currently recommend, and does not support, Automation of Microsoft Office applications from any unattended, non-interactive client application or component (including ASP, ASP.NET, DCOM, and NT Services), because Office may exhibit
unstable behavior and/or deadlock when Office is run in this environment.
User Identity: Office applications assume a user identity when the applications are run, even when Automation starts the applications. The applications try to initialize toolbars, menus, options, printers, and some add-ins based on settings in the user
registry hive for the user who launches the application. Many services run under accounts that have no user profiles (such as the SYSTEM account or the IWAM_[servername] accounts). Therefore, Office may not initialize correctly on startup. In this situation,
Office returns an error on the CreateObject function or the CoCreateInstance function. Even if the Office application can be started, other functions may not work correctly if no user profile exists.
To work around the issue, you can refer to the following alternative introduced in the article:
Most server-side Automation tasks involve document creation or editing. Office 2007 supports new Open XML file formats that let developers create, edit, read, and transform file content on the server side. These file formats use the System.IO.Package.IO
namespace in the Microsoft .NET 3.x Framework to edit Office files without using the Office client applications themselves. This is the recommended and supported method for handling changes to Office files from a service.

  • Is it possible to Deploy a SSIS package to catalog with a Sql Server Identity in SQL Server 2012 programmly ?

    Hi,
how can I deploy a SSIS package with a SQL SERVER identity to the catalog in SQL Server 2012 programmly?
I tried to use the [SSISDB].[catalog].[deploy_project], but the error said that it could only be used with a WINDOWS identity.
This question has worried me for days.
Is there any way to make the catalog.deploy_project available for a SQL SERVER identity ?
Or just an new solution instead of using the catalog.deploy_project?
    best wishes from Qingyuan Lee.

Sorry, my description may be confusable.
I use EXECUTE AS , not EXECUTE WITH, to solve the problem.
In fact,  I don't care about the authority.
I want to execute the stored procedure using a SQL SERVER Authentication Account , since my codes run on a linux OS and it is hard to connect to SSIS using a Windows Authentication Account.
so, using EXECUTE AS to change the execution context is accaptable.
The requirement for a Windows Authentication Account makes sense.
I consider that the SSIS executes outside the context of SQL Server and as part of an OS process, which means that a Windows account is necessary in order to deploy a package.
Thanks very much for your help.
