Changing the Mail to be received automatically instead of manual?

Im new to mac, and everything is running smoothly, however im having a problem with mail. I have to open the app and then my emails begin to download, (usually getting like 20 each time) but how do i make it so as soon as someone sends an email it shows in notifications center? Rather then myself having to open the app to see if any have come in recently.
Cheers Glen

If your mail provider is using POP3 then you will have to get the email as it won't be sent to you (the mail server would have to be using IMAP).
But if you open the Preferences for Mail (with Mail open, click on the word Mail and then select Preferences) you will see a setting under the General tab called "Check for new messages". You could set this to "Every minute" or "Every 5 minutes".
And while you are in the Preferences window, you can click on the Accounts tab to see your email account and with it selected you can see what Account Type it is using (POP or IMAP).

When I receive and answer e-mail, the correspondence is usually "nested" "behind"  the original message, and the number of replies, etc. are indicated with a number next to the original message in the inbox.  How can I change the mail settings so that every reply is listed individually in the inbox instead of having them "stacked" behind the original message.  I'm afraid I might accidentially overlook messages the way they are handled now.

Somebody here will correct me if I'm wrong, but what you have to do is go into Settings, Mail/Contacts/Calendars and under Mail, turn off "Organize by Thread".  I think that will make each message show individually.

  • My ISP tells me I need to I need to change the port to send/receive e-mails, but I can't remember my Mail password to add an account. How can I proceed without the password?

My ISP tells me I need to change the port to send/receive mail, as the current port is going to be disabled for security reasons. But I can't remember my Mail password to add an account. How can I add an account when I don't remember my password? It's been several years.

your email password is with your ISP so they can help. but if it is saved in the email app you can just change the ports in the preferneces without a password.

  • Change the subject on a received e mail

is it possible to change the subject of a received e mail in order to file it ?

AFAIK, not with Apple's Mail app. That's doable with Eudora.

  • I am receiving a message that my ID has been disabled, and I followed the steps to change the password, but still receive the same message.  Cannot access app store or do updates.

I am receiving a message that my ID has been disabled, and I followed the steps to change the password, but still receive the same message.  Cannot access app store or do updates.

In what way are you receiving this message? It is very common to get an email telling you that your ID has been disabled, and asking you to confirm all your details so the sender can steal your identity online.....

  • I have a 4s updated to iOS6 and I cannot change the mail tone. It is stuck.

No matter how much I try, I cannot change the mail tone and it is really frustrating me. I have restarted the phone, reset the phone, restored the phone. Still no luck. Can anyone help?

I really appreciate your help! Thank you so much. I can't change any sounds for mail. I have two accounts on my phone, and when I change them both, either through the notification centre, or the sound section they play the sound you click, but then when you actually get an email they revert back to one a quack the other a sci-fi noise

  • Can we change the goal to number of steps instead of calories?

Can we change the goal to number of steps instead of calories?
I don't care the calories as I am a skinny person, what I care is the volume of exercise like number of steps?
Seems other brand like Fitbit are all using that as the goal standard, Apple should open this option as well.
Or anyone know how to change the goals?

I agree... it makes sense to be able to change the goals to steps.
However, you may want to consider how you look at calories. Most people think of calories with regard to dieting. However, it is really just a measurement of energy used. For example, yesterday I went on a 3 mile hike to a nearby mountain top (1200' elevation gain) and noticed I has about 5,000 steps and burned 500 calories to get there. On the way back, I also had about 5000 steps, but burned only about 200 calories.
If these were two separate workouts, both would be 5000 steps, but the first one used over twice the energy than the first. To me, the calories used is a much better metric to compare workouts (and a logical choice for a fitness goal). Calories also lets you compare different workout types (walking, running, biking, etc.) that you can't compare with steps.

  • I have recently given away my old mac air to a friend. I want to change the mail settings so he can access his emails and not access mine

I recently gave my old mac air (purchased new 2011) to my friend. I want to change the mail settings so that he can access his mail from the application and not mine. So far we have gone to mail then preferences then general and changed the email address to his but upon relaunching the mail application, it didn't seem to have worked. The mailbox was empty of either his or my emails. Ali

Follow these instructions: What to do before selling or giving away your Mac.
Your friend will need to install his own OS X system as weill as purchase his own App Store software. He/She cannot use yours. Since the machine has been wiped your friend can configure his/her own Mail account.

  • How do i change the mail preview in Lion from a vertical read to a horizontal read

I just switched from Snow leopard to Lion and i don't like the way that Lion has the mail preview set up as a 3 column vertical format.  I thought in Snow Leopard you could change the set-up so it's either horizontal or vertical, but I can't seem to find that option in Lion.  I want to have the list of my email messages in the top, horizontal window and the preview of the selected message in a horizontal window below. Am I missing this option to change the view format from vertical to horizontal somewhere?

Thank you this solved my problem also... i feel like a duffus for not figuring it out onmy own but who cares I can now get back to work instead of focalising on this... YEAH !

  • Me32K - Need to change the mail subject line, attachment name

    Hi,
can u please throw light on the below three points which needs to be achieved.
    1. Subject line of the mail needs to be modified from standard to "PO# XXXXXXXXXX".
    2.  Attachment name should be updated from stanadrd to "PO_XXXXXXXXXX".
    3. Also by default mail will be delivered to the default id, but it should be delivered to multiple mail ids maintained in the vendor master.
I should achieve the above by user exits or by Zprogram copying from th standard.
    Please advise me.
    Thanks a lot.
    Regards,

check in Tcode: NACE, what is the current driver program and form against your document type.
    and then change accordingly

  • Change the Mail-Session's type in glassfish to type javax.mail.Session

    hi all guys!
com.sun.enterprise.deployment.MailConfiguration is the default type of Mail_Session in the glassfish, but I want the javax.mail.Session to construct a MimeMessage!
    How can I do?
    All comments will be appriciate!

It sounds like you are attempting to lookup the resource using the non-portable server dependent resource name (and you are getting a non-portable server dependent result in return).
If instead, you use the portable JNDI name of the mail resource, the expected javax.mail.Session object will be returned, e.g.
    Session mailSession = (Session) ic= new InitialContext().lookup("java:comp/env/mail/mobileMailSession");
Also make sure that the resource has been assigned the JNDI name you decide on ("mail/mobileMailSession" in the example above).

  • Changing the mail content - Someone has started following me

    Hi
I would like to change the content of the mail sent to the user that is triggered when some one starts following that user. Please let me know how can this done, thanks.
    Regards,
    Senthil

I don't think it can be done.  The contents/formatting of that message are hard coded in some of the .dlls used by SharePoint.  The words and phrases used are most likely stored in the .RESX files used by the system for localization.  So
you could edit the wording by editing those, but you won't be able to change the overall layout of the message or add additional dynamic information.  I also don't recommend changing the .RESX files used by the system since they could be over-written
by any update that is applied to the system.

  • Changing the "mail me" icon...

i just viewed several sites made with iweb and am wondering how they all changed the icon of their mail button at usually the lower end of the page,
im also interested in learning how to change the look -customize- the look of my bars at the top, been working on the iweb for months now and feel confident to now explore further
    any advice is greatly appreciated.
    b

You can use virtually any image or link as an email button, the sky is the limit. To do this just insert your image into iweb and click on the inspector button, from here you go to the very last button called the link inspector, enable as a hyperlink and chose an email message. You can then put the url of the email address you wish to link it too. As far as customizing the look I would start with one of the blank page choices. Again to specifically customize the look of your menu or anything else on the page use the inspector. If you want to create your own menu there is an option not to display navigation on your page, and this allows you to have complete control of how your page looks. Create a simple page, open up the inspector, and have some fun creating your own pages. Hope this helps.
