Characters in names and aliases

In the website for Paetzold recorders there is an interesting bug. They have a setup which sweeps the text from a page onto a sheet Paetzold letterhead when you click on an Adobe icon. Unfortunately the letterhead uses a different text encoding and you get Altblockflöte instead of Altblockflöte.
This bug gives us a hint at the problems the Jive software would have comparing names and passwords presented in various encodings. Depending on the computer set up of the person signing in the encoding could vary from sign in to sign in. Jive would have to translate all sign-ins to the same encoding. Þat could present difficulties.
The bug is not present on all pages of the website.

I don't think that is correct. Apple web pages including login are all coded to make your browser use the UTF-8 encoding, and that is what will always be sent, unless some user deliberately tries to change it after going to the page, which seems unlikely.

    Hello All
    It's been a year after those posts about the limit of identifiers in Oracle Database. Does anybody know what can be done to get rid of that primitive limit? We are developing using Application Servers, Java, generated Code and a very nice object model, in which we can't just use abreviations because of early database age memory shortcomings.
    We are currently using 8i in a very large organization. Is there any chance this version can be configured to allow larger identifiers? Is upgrading to 9i going to solve this problem? Is Oracle Databases really doomed forever because of a 20-year-ago limitation?
    Please, I do like Oracle Databases. I don't want to be flooded with quick answers like "just use 32 character identifiers". I would like to hear a serious solution. Is anybody there still locked in the 8.3 filename paradigm of MS/PC-DOS? Does anybody has to fit an entire Enterprise System in segmented 640Kb of memory? Does anybody has to use monochrome character mode interfaces? Of course not those in the mainstream.
    I also know that other hadrware and software products have lots os limitations. Take Windows 2000. Its command line has a limit of 255 characters! You can't have more than 4GB of memory in a PC! However, one can't expect one mistake to justify others.
    I wish I were very wrong in this respect, and all it should be necessary is to turn on some kind of configuration parameter in 8i to allow us to develop high quality code.
    Thanks for your attention.
    Please, feel free to contact me if you have a solution.

  • Local characters in Name and Address Details

    Hi,
    For an Thailand Employee,
    I need to print his Name from PA0182(Alternative Names) and the Adress Details from Pa0006 with a custom subtype 0026(Thailand Address).
    The source of Name and Address is different if I want to do the same for a Taiwan PERNR.
    Is there a way to dynamically determine the source of Data based on Country Grouping?
    Please suggest.
    Thanks,
    Suryakiran D.

    Sorry for misreading your question!
    In the view T588M, you can choose the infotype 0006 and subtype too it is probably already customized for Thailand!
    There is probrably a feature with county grouping!
    Just add the country grouping of taiwan to the one of thailand!

  • Server names and aliases do not work on client machines

    I have Leopard Server 10.5.6, Advanced setting, on a local machine behind a Time Capsule router. The server's IP was set at 10.0.0.100 (the Time Capsule is 10.0.0.1).
    After fiddling around with DNS names, I set the DNS name of the server (Server Admin -> Settings -> Network) to ABC-Server.local
    However, from any computer on the network, going to "All... -> Servers" in Finder displays two folders, "abc.server" and "abcserver.local". Inside both these folders, aliases are unreachable.
    1. Is there a way to remove these two folders and their aliases? I tried to "rm" or "sudo rm" them from a client and the server computer, but I get the "Operation not permitted".
    I am also wondering if this is related to the Workgroup Manager: Selecting a user, then "Home" displays
    afp://abc.server/Groups
    afp://abcserver.local/Rewriting
    etc.
    I cannot remove these paths (the "-" sign is greyed out).
    2. Is this related to the above? How can I remove these paths?
    Also, setting up a roaming home profile (so that users can log in from any workstation) has been difficult up to now. I tried following the official instructions manual, but it didn't work out for me, maybe due to the above problems?
    Thank you.

    Removing the server in Directory Activity seems to remove the above "Server" folder and its contents, so could this be related to the Open Directory service?
    From Server Admin, looks like I can't edit much. Are there any settings in Server Admin that I should check or fix?

  • Exported PNG files getting extra characters in name and linked files losing link

    UGH!.. Hope that made sense.
    Okay...I work on a couple hundred graphics for software at a time, usually creating each piece in a layer with the correct naming convention as the layer name.  Then I use the "Save Layers and PNG. Artboard" script for batch export them into the ONG files...all named properly.  This was a Blessing from heaven.
    However, about three months ago, Illustrator starting adding a "dash" mark in place of a space between words.  I can't link this to an update or other change, wish I could.  This is causing a huge problem..as the software these graphics are for REQUIRES the names be perfect...including the spaces (Can't be underscores, nada).  I'm having to go through an manually rename over half the files just to remove this dash mark.
    There is nothing in the original script for this.
    I have gone through all the settings.  I have adjusted the Output Settings / Saving Files to eliminate every instance AI is asked to add anything but a space.   Although I'm not sure if these Output settings are used when the script runs.  Don't know if it's the script, some other setting buried somewhere.
    Any other thoughts or solutions?  Are there other scripts that do the same job that I might try to see if I get better results?  I attached a link to a download of my current script
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/23703370/SaveLayersAsPNGArtboard.jsx
    Second issue isn't script based, but I'll ask anyway.  Regularly, when I open an AI file that has PNGs, JPG, and other graphics in the file, the "links" have been lost and require me to manually re-link each one, or delete the now empty file object and add it back in.  This includes embedded objects.
    The AI file, nor the graphics have been edited, changed, renamed, or any of the files or folders moved.  Nothing that would cause this that I can think of.  ANyone have a thought why this is happening and how I can prevent it?

  • Validation for Unique Name and Non-AlphaNumeric Characters

    Hi All,
    How to do Unique name and Non-Alpha Numeric Characters Validation?
    Name should be unique and only allow alphanumeric characters.
    Where all validations must be done? In EOImpl or any other file?
    Plz help
    Thanks,

    Here are the steps you need to perform to check duplicate Employee Names need not entered by user.
    First create a VVO in your schema.server package(that of EO) with the following query.Generate both VVOImpl and VVORowImpl file.
    select full_name
    from fwk_tbx_employees
    where full_name =:1Now add this VVO to your VAM means give instance to it.
    Now open the VVOImpl and write below code to execute query based on new name entered by user
        public void initQuery(String name)
          setWhereClauseParams(null); // Always reset
          setWhereClauseParam(0, name);
          executeQuery();
        }Now open Your Entity Expert class and add below method in it
       public boolean isEmployeeNameExists(String name)
         boolean isExists = false;
               // Note that we want to use a cached, declaratively defined VO instead of creating
               // one from a SQL statement which is far less performant.
         EmployeeNameVVOImpl employeeNameVVO =
           (EmployeeNameVVOImpl)findValidationViewObject("EmployeeNameVVO1");
         employeeNameVVO.initQuery(name);
         // We're just doing a simple existance check.  If we don't find a match, return false.
         if (employeeNameVVO.hasNext())
           isExists = true;
         return isExists;
       }Now you need to call this expert class method from setter method of EOImpl for name.so Open your EOImpl file and go to setter method of name
          if ((value != null) || (!("".equals(value.trim()))))
            EmployeeEntityExpert expert = getEmployeeEntityExpert(getOADBTransaction());
            if (!(expert.isEmployeeNameExists(value)))
                throw new OAException("Duplicate Employee Name", OAException.ERROR);
          }Remember to write code above setAttributeInternal.
    Hope it helps!!!!
    Let me know if you have queries in it.
    Thanks

  • Special characters in joins name and Identifiers

    I am working on a business area which was created a time ago. Joins name contain special characters. Regarding Oracle, these are not going to be accepted in the new versions.
    How can I fix this problem, knowing any change in joins name will affect the workbooks.

    You can - and should - double check this, but I believe changing the name only of the join will not cause a problem per se.
    It's when you change the name AND the identifier in one fell swoop that a problem will occur.
    That's because when Disco opens up a workbook, it will look for the name OR identifier (if, for example, the name was changed).
    So, in theory, you could change the name of a join, folder, etc. and then open all your Discoverer workbooks and then save them again. Now they will have knowledge of the new name.
    Then if you wanted - and ALL workbooks were already run and re-saved - you could change the identifier and do the whole process over again.
    So, to summarize, I believe that just changing the actual join name ONLY will not cause any problem.

  • Certain Characters Aren't Anti-Aliased

    This is a problem that I've had under Linux-based systems for a while, and I don't know if there's a remedy for it.
    At around system font sizes (10-12), under both GNOME and Xfce, certain characters aren't anti-aliased (for example, Japanese characters) in certain programs (Firefox and Pidgin are the two main ones, but I recall there being others).  I'm assuming that all of these characters are currently being used from other TTFs that I've installed, because DéjàVu doesn't seem to have them.  At larger sizes in these programs, and at all sizes in LibreOffice, I don't seem to have this problem.
    Is this a problem with GTK, these apps specifically, or my configuration?  I currently have fonts for GNOME and Xfce set to greyscale anti-aliasing and full hinting, if that helps.  What I want is for these characters to be anti-aliased, because it looks very odd when they're showing as monochrome against a bunch of anti-aliased letters.  As far as I can tell, the hinting still works, however.

    You most likely have the use of bitmap fonts or embedded bitmaps enabled somewhere in your /etc/fonts/conf.d. Once you find something like
    <selectfont>
        <acceptfont>
            <pattern>
                <patelt name="scalable"><bool>true</bool></patelt>
            </pattern>
        </acceptfont>
    </selectfont>
    or
    <match target="font">
        <edit name="embeddedbitmap" mode="assign">
            <bool>true</bool>
        </edit>
    </match>
    and change them to "false", you should be fine.

  • HELP! my mac has logged me out and now asking for a name and password?

    I was logged on shopping on top-shop online and suddenly the mac shut down.
    It seems it has reset its self! My icon has disappeared and its now asking  for a name and password.
    i have tried my log in but it is not working.
    Is there another way to reset the password?
    can i reset it to log back in what can i do?
    I have rebooted the computer several times but i dont know what to do!

    First, make sure caps lock is not on.
    Another reason why your password might not be recognized is that the keyboard layout (input source) has been switched without your realizing it. At the login screen, you can cycle through the available layouts by pressing the key combination   command-space or command-option-space. See this support article.
    If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
    Otherwise*, start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
    from the menu bar. In the window that opens, type this:
    res
    Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
    Press return. A Reset Password window opens. Close the Terminal window to get it out of the way.
    Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
    Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
    Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
    You should now be able to log in with the new password, but your Keychain will be reset (empty.) If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it.
    *Note: If you've activated FileVault, this procedure doesn't apply. Follow instead these instructions.

  • How Do RoboHelp 9 WebHelp Generated Files Handle Map IDs and Aliases?

    The text below was written by our team's developer/architect. I am the help author who uses RoboHelp to write content and generate the help files, but I am clueless how it all gets generated and is deployed. Please help. We use RoboHelp 9. I use it in Windows XP and our app and help run on IE 7, 9, and Firefox (multiple versions).
    "Our application uses the numeric identifiers associated with the Map ID. For example, to get to the <appname>_home_page.htm file, we use the number 1053. <appname> = pecs, in this example.
    All of this is used in a call to a RoboHelp method defined in the RoboHelp_CSH.js file. The mehtod we are calling is the RH_ShowHelp() JavaScript method and the code to perform the call, when you click on Page Help, is this:
    RH_ShowHelp(0, ''/pecsHelp/index.htm>pecsHelp',HH_HELP_CONTEXT,topic);
    Topic is translated to the Map ID number for the page help. HH_HELP_CONTEXT is defined in the RoboHelp_CSH.js file. This method translates into a URL and from what I have seen, the URL that gets generated is this:
    http://{server}[:port]/pecsHelp/index.htm/{server}[:port]/pecsHelp/index.htm#<id=1053>>pecsHelp
    Server and port get replaced with the appropriate values. I have no clue how id=1053 is supposed to get translated to mean "pecs_home_page.htm". If you check the PECS_help.h file, you will see the following entry:
    #define PECS_Home_Page1 1053
    Then in the RoboHelp alias file (PECS 3.0.ali), the following line is in the file:
    <alias name="PECS_Home_Page1" link="pecs_home_page.htm"> </alias>
    But both of these files are used during the WebHelp generation process and I don't know how the WebHelp generated files handle the Map ID and aliases."

    You need to assign the numbers you find in the pecs_help.h file to topics in your help. You do this in Context Sensitive Help > Map Files > All Map IDs. (From RH7, but I assume the location is similar in RH9.) This creates the entries in the .ali file.
    Peter Grainge suggests a couple of sites to read for a greater understanding here:
    http://www.grainge.org/pages/authoring/calling_webhelp/using_map_ids.htm
    (Although the second  site is based on RH X5, the basic concepts and procedures should be very similar. )

    Amber

    Given file name or path contains Unicode or double-byte characters. Retry using ASCII characters for filename and path
    What does this mean? It is happening when I try to publish an OAM for Dreamweaver.
    Also: How can I specify the browser in Edge Animate? It is just going wherever. Are there no Preferences for Edge Animate?
    BTW. Just call it Edge. Seriously. Do you call it Illustrator Draw? Photoshop Retouching?

    No, my file name is mainContent.oam
    My project name is mainContent.an
    This error happens when I try to import into Dreamweaver. Sorry, I wasn't clear on that earlier.
    I thought maybe it was because I had saved my image as a png. So re-saved as a svg, still get the error.
    DO I have a setting is Dreamweaver CC that is wrong? Should I try this in Dreamweaver CS6? I might try that next.
    Why is this program so difficult? I know Flash. I know After Effects. I can work the timeline part just great. It's always in the export that I have problems.

  • Non US characters in login and email generation

    I have a design problem that I would like to check if anyone else has found a good solution to.
    Once you leave the safe shores of the United States your users start having names that includes all kinds of funny characters. In the good old days this problem was resolved by the fact that the HR system only handled 7 bit US ascii characters but today you are likely to have to face an HR system that supports unicode or at least some kind of character set that includes lots of non US ascii characters. I just ran some stats on my current enterprise population and it seems like about 5% of the users have names containing "strangeness".
    These strange characters causes big problems if you aren't allowed to include non US ascii characters in logins, email addresses and other generated fields. Exactly what a "strange character" is varies. RFC 5322 takes a quite liberal view towards special characters but explicitly disallows non US letters.
    The simplistic solution is to drop any character that isn't a US ascii letter. This works if the problem is names like "O'Malley" as the "'" really shouldn't be part of the user login and probably not part of an email address either(can be debated). This solution breaks down when you get to Germany or Scandinavia where your users that are called "Örjan Åhs" may not appreciate an email address of rjan.hs@your_company.com.
    What you would like to do is to convert "Örjan Åhs" to either "Orjan Ahs" or (possible) "Oerjan Aohs" but I haven't been able to find any java lab that does that conversion for you.
    Anyone that has run into this problem before and solved it?
    I wonder how certain characters in this post will be rendered on computers in different parts of the world :)
    /Martin, who long ago converted his last name (Swedish) to be 7 bit ascii compliant

    Thanks Daniel
    The code above drops any non US ascii characters which is fine in some situations but doesn't work for me as that would result in (amongst other issues) unacceptable email addresses.
    Example: The user "Jörgen Åhs" gets the email [email protected] (using drop strategy), what is needed is [email protected]
    The solution to this problem is to write a transform function and as we have about 80 non US ascii characters in character set we are using this mapping can quite easily be externalized to a configuration file.
    Good point about the preferred name. I have not seen this specific problem in my current system but it is very common in certain parts of the world i.e. people with Chinese heritage in south east Asia often have a Chinese legal name and a western name that they actually use in day to day interactions. If you base the email address of their name in HR much screaming ensures. The same thing should actually happen in the US as you are supposed to enter the name on your social security card into the HR system but that seems largely to be ignored.

  • How do I grab a value from a file name and load it in a field/column?

    I want to pick out the NYC characters from the file name and fill it as value for <wa_raw>-field1 for all records.
    How do I do this?
    Pls advice.
    Thanks!

    Hi Durgesh,
    I am doing this in a program via SE38 and not via transformation routine.
    Now I am working on this piece of code to get the value.
    file_str = //rdmsbw/dev/data/output/all/OUS_RAW_HCM_05_2011.txt
    I only want the characters HCM from file_str.

    That's a recent version of Logic 9 correct?
    The problem centers around a name length limitation in all versions of Logic except 9.1 and upwards (I think it's Logic 9.1)  You've named an audio file with more than 30 (or 31) characters in Logic 9, unfortunately Logic 8 can't read the long name and sees it as a shortened name and a disk sector location.
    #23B269  is the location of the file on the disk and if you would've created the project in 8 including the long name, Logic 8 would've written the file to disk as "heather reco#23B269.wav" and would've been able to find it.
    To be on the safe side, when creating files in Logic 9 for use in 8, keep the file names under 29 characters, including spaces. Re-linking has to be done by hand, load the audio files needed into the bin and drop then in the correct track locations, Logic 8 will not be able to find the files with long names.
    This used to play **** when moving projects, a home studio person finished his CD, unaware he/she uses long file names. Copies all projects and files to an external disk and takes it to a professional studio for mixing. OOPS!! The file names with the sector locations are no longer valid, the sector location has changed... the project loads with scraps of files from different projects or loads with incomplete files.
