Charging in car

Hi,
I own an iPhone 4 (business) and an iPhone 4S (private).
I have 3 car adapters (12 VOLT to USB).
I use original Apple cables (USB - dock connector).
The iPhone 4 charges fine in the car. (shows either cahrging or fully charged symbol in connector)
The iPhones 4S does not. (it just shows it is running on battery).
I have two 12 volt conenctions in the car - bot the same result.
I used the 3 12volt-usb adapters (all different makes) - same result.
4 will charge, 4S will not.
On a wall outlet my 4S charges fine...
any suggestions?

Thanks guys,
I have the certified charger and I have 2 dollar ones..
All give the same result, I noticed that when my battery level has dropped below 80% it does start charging, above the 80% the problem as mentioned above..
( As I do use navigation on my iphone the battery drains pretty fast...)
No real solution, Only I get better in plugging my iPhone while driving when battery gets low...

Mine charges just fine, as does everyone's iPhone 4S that I know. Apple even sells a number of car chargers that are certified to work:

Perhaps there is a problem with your charger or the outlet you're using in your car/truck.

  • My iPhone 4s no longer charges in car

Over the past two weeks, my 4S has stopped charging off of the pair of USB chargers I have in my car.  One of them is a Kensington USB charging nub and the other is another name-brand dual-usb charger, and I'm using the original Apple charging cord.  Up until a couple of weeks ago, everything was fine, so it's not the chargers...and I tested another 4S, my old 3GS, and an iPod and they all charge fine in the car.  I have not updated to iOS 5.1, either.  Charging off of a computer or the wall works perfectly fine.
Thoughts? Is it possible that the dock connector is set up to receive power off of different pins for AC and DC current...or would that be negated since it powers fine off of the computer?
With how quickly this phone's battery depletes, I can't be limited to strictly in-house.
    Thanks,

    Hi smokeeater033,
If your iPhone is not appearing in iTunes for Windows I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

  • IPhone 3G no longer charges from car stereo

    Hello all,
I can no longer charge my iPhone 3g from my car stereo since updating to version 2.1.
I have a Panasonic CQ-RX400U with a USB connector on the front. Prior to the update I was able to connect and charge the phone and play the iPod from the stereo using the USB to iPod/iPhone cable. There was a compatibility warning on the iPhone when I did this, but it worked. After the update, the phone makes the initial charging sound, but never gets to the iPod, then repeatedly tries to connect without success and continuing t make the charging chirp sound.
Just wondering if anyone experienced similar issues post 2.1 update.
I'm going to ask Panasonic if the may have an update available as well, to correct the problem.
    Thanks,
    Bob Y.

I'm afraid that the link is somewhat irrelevant to my problem.
The problem is, that nothing happens whatsoever, when I connect my iphone to my computer. No charge, no nothing.
I connected my fiances iphone to my computer and it charged, and itunes recognized it without any problem.
However, I did try what the link suggested and nothing worked

  • Problem with charges in CAR application

    Hi,
We are using a CCM 4.1.3 sr 5b and we want to use CAR for reporting. I install the pluging and configure the base charge field with a value of 100, the multiplicator factor of the voice quality category are different from 0 and the multiplicator factor of the time of day is set to 1. Although these parameters when I generate a report the charge column is set to 0 and the QOS column is set to NA.
How can I do to have on a report the charges different from 0 and the QOS column set to it's proper values?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Ipod touch no longer charges in car after software upgrade. Wants app?

I have an Ipod touch 4th generation. It was working beautifully connected to the USB port in my 2012 Honda CRV until I upgraded the software to 5.1.1. Now it says that I need an App but it won't tell me what App and it no longer charges through the car's USB. It still plays through the car stereo but I have to disconnect it from the USB to control it.

You can try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
If still problem then the iOS broke full compatibility. you have to then wait for either Apple to fix the problem in an iOS update or for Honda to fix it via a firmware update/
    Have you contacted Honda?

  • 3Gs no longer charges in car after updating to iOS 5

I got a weird problem after updating to iOS 5. In addition to the battery drain, my 3GS will no longer charge via a 12 volt car adaptor. I know the cable and the adaptor work because my son's iPod and wife's iPhone 3G both charge from them. The cable also has no problems charging my phone when it's plugged into the computer or a wall socket.
The battery drain is a bummer, but combined with no longer being able to charge in the car makes this a killer combination.
Any help with this would be much appreciated.

    John

  • New ipod touch will not charge with car stereo anymore

I recently got an iPod Touch and when I plug it in to my car stereo it says that "charging is not supported with this accessory". I'm assuming it has something to do with the fact that the new IPT do not charge with firewire.
I'm having the same problem with a USB 2.0 extension cord I bought. this one I don't understand because it is supposed to be USB and not firewire. I've tried plugging that in to the wall with a usb wall charger but I get the same thing, so it's not an issue of there not being enough power.
As far as my car is concerned, the cable has a regular ipod connection. I look up firewire to USB converters but they all have a female firewire (small odd shaped holes) connection, so I couldn't plug my cable in to it. Does anyone have any idea on what I could do to fix this situation so that my ipod will charge while it is plugged in?

You have identified a problem that has been around since the iPod touch came out (also effects the latest generation nanos). Go to your local big box store and by yourself a new charger that is compatible with the touch.

  • IPhone 3G will no longer charge in car.

I have a Blitzsafe iPhone/iPod interface in my car. I don't drive the car very often (2005 Saleen) but it has always been able to charge in the past, both with my original iPhone and my 3G. Yesterday I took the car out, plugged in the connector and the phone popped up and said that it will not charge with this accessory and asked if I wanted to go into airplane mode (which it has always asked).
Now, I have to unplug the iPhone from the stereo in order to charge it (assuming my InCharge Auto charger from XtremeMac will still charge).
Anyone know why Apple has disabled charging, and if they might re-enable it?

    I've had this problem too.
I've always travelled overseas with my Altec Lancing ipod dock which I also use to charge my iPhone. I went on holiday last week, plugged in the iPhone to charge after day 1, and to my horror got that message 'Not compatible with Charging'!!! I had to go the whole week without a phone, maps or email.
    Very inconvenient.
I was convinced this had been a 2.1 update change which I was furious about, but now you mention it, I might have only ever charged my original iPhone and not my 3G.
I've just tested them both now back in the UK and indeed the old one charges but the 3G does not.
Still pretty annoyed Apple didn't highlight this, as it must be a inconvenience for millions who now have to pack 2 chargers when previously they only packed one...?

  • IPhone 3G won't charge from car adapter when battery is low

I regularly use my Griffin car charger to charge my iPhone 3G. It seems to work well most of the time.
When my iPhone 3G is very low on battery charge, I discovered that the the iPhone will no longer charge via the car charger. Only way I can recharge the iPhone is via the cable connected directly to my computer or via the wall adapter.
Is this a normal behavior? Very unfortunate if it is since forcing a mobile user to connect to a wall outlet or a computer makes no sense.

Copied from my previous post in this thread.
I know if the iPhone's internal temperature if over a designated temp, you can't charge the battery until the internal temp has been reduced. This is protection for the battery and internal components since charging increases the internal temp.
When this occurs, the charging indicator will switch to showing as being fully charged.
    Are you using a case?
Charging increases the internal temp of the iPhone, and using GPS will also increase the internal temp of the iPhone. Combined must have increased the internal temp of your iPhone past the designated temp when charging stops. Using a case can prevent heat from being dissipated properly.

  • Suddenly, 3G no longer charges via car charger.

I got an iPhone 3G about a month ago. I bought a dock for the car and it has been working great for week.
Suddenly though, yesterday, the dock no longer charges the phone. I've always gotten the "Airplane Mode" message, but I ignored it and it would work just fine.
Now, I still get the "Airplane Mode" message, but no charge. Still get audio out.
I haven't updated the phone since 3.1 over a week ago. Just seems strange it would fail so abruptly.
I tried Resorting the iPhone, I've tried reseating the dock in the lighter. No luck. It's very annoying seeing how I just spent 89.99 on Navigon and use Pandora almost every time I drive.
Any thoughts? Is it just that the dock has failed "TuneFlex by Griffin"
    Thanks

Have you tried it on a different car?

  • IPod won't charge with car charger or on stereo dock..

A couple months ago, my iPod Nano (1st gen) stopped charging with the car charger and my stereo dock for no apparent reason. Is there some sort of setting that got switched in iTunes that prevents it from charging from other sources, besides the computer?
It charges just fine when I connect it to my PC...but it just doesn't charge when I connect it to the car charger, or my stereo dock...
    Thanks in advance.

No, iTunes probably wouldn't be affecting your iPod's charging from anything but a computer.
Have you tried resetting your iPod?
Press and hold the Menu and Select (center) buttons together for about 10 seconds.
If that doesn't seem to work (you might need to try it quite a few times), try taking a look at this:

  • IPod with dock connector is not getting charged with car charger and iTrip

My iPod from 2003 with dock connector is not getting charged in my car by using the griffin iTrip with USB car charger. iTrip works, but not the charger. Maybe there´s not enough power output from the car charger? Only 5.0V with 400mA are coming out. iPod needs more? 12V with 1.0A?
Does somebody have information about that problem for me?

Has Apple dropped support for older model iPods?
Nope. Support is still there, even back to the original 1G iPod with the wheel that actually turns. I have a 3G iPod, and it syncs just fine. There have not been any software updates for years, but the old software still works fine with the latest iTunes.
You have to use FireWire, which you seem to be doing.
Try putting it into Disk Mode first, then connect it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363
Does the iPod currently play music as it should?
Do you have another docking cable (FireWire) that you can try? FireWire connectors often get worn and they no longer work, although the power connection can continue to work.
Did you try the other FireWire port in the iMac?

  • Fm transmitting and charging in car

i used to have a 20gb b/w ipod w/ click wheel. i used a griffin iTrip to broadcast on my car stereo while charging with a dock connector car charger.
I have upgraded to a 5G 30gb ipod, and to my dismay, my old iTrip is not compatible. i have been looking everywhere for an fm transmitter which i can use WHILE charging in the car, but that does not need to be plugged in in the car to work.
everything i have found either plugs into the dock connector, preventing me from charging my iPod in the car, which will be rough since i drive a lot, or plugs into the headphone jack but requires batteries, or has to be plugged into the lighter outlet to work.
does anyone have suggestions? any good products that you could recommend?
