Charing the iPod touch with older charger?

I have been an iPod owner since the first generation 5 gig model. It's still going strong (it's my son's now). In the course of time I have acquired a few chargers -- two for home and one for the car. Both are the Firewire variety. Can I use these (with the appropriate cord or adapter) to charge my touch? Is the output of these chargers still safe to use? I don't have a newer charger to double-check to see if they're still the same. Thanks.

I have the second generation of iPod. I use the firewire and the adapter to charge my Ipod Touch to the wallplug. It works fine. You can't use the firewire cable from your computer to your ipod in order to synch it with the iTunes. So I use my usb cable that comes with my ipod touch to synch my music.

Get a replacement cable. If still under warranty, Apple will replace the cable.

  • How can I sync the ipod touch with windows 7 64 bit

How can I sync the ipod touch with Outlook on windows 7 64 bit?

I'm having the same problem with Windows 7, iTunes has been spotty about recognizing my iPod Touch. Now that I've updates Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 (June 2011), It won't complete a sync or a restore at all on either of my Windows 7 computers.
I have gone through every troubleshooter action recommended by Apple Support, and have not been able to improve the situation at all.
I took my Touch to the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store after trying and failing to complete a restore while troubleshooting, and it restored just fine from a Mac.  Unfortunately, it now gives me an error meesage (Incompatible device) half way through an attempted sync, or iTunes simply freezes.
I even tried removing the Windows SP1, but that was a mess, as my display went all whacky and iTunes crashed immediately upon startup.
The Windows 7 OS ***** in general, particularly with compatibility issues, and not just for Apple products.
Does anyone know how to remedy this situation?
I'm so frustrated and have wasted so much time on this issue that I'm going to throw it all out the window!

Can i charge iPod Touch with iPhone charger?

Yes. You can also use an iPad charger too if you have one.

  • How come the iPod Touch doesn't charge when connected to an USB extension?

I have it plug it directly into the iMac, I can't plug it into an extension cable connected to the iMac. My older iPod Touch charged just fine using the USB extender, but my new one refuses to charge unless it's directly connected to the iMac. Why would Apple change how the iPod charges? Those extension cables are useful when you need to switch out USB devices, since the ports are all in the back of the unit.

I noticed the same thing happened with my iPod touch. It wouldn't charge on my iMac but when I connected it to my Macbook it started up right away. The difference being, I think, is not the computers but the usb hubs. The one on my Macbook has its own power supply where as the one on my iMac doesn't. Try that. Maybe the usb hub just needs to have its own power supply in order for the iPod touch to charge. So if that's the case then the usb extension cable probably won't work at all.

  • IPod touch with older Powermac G4

I have a Powermac G4 with usb 1.1 and 733Mhz processor. Is it possible to use the iPod touch without upgrading to a new Mac with usb 2.0? I am ok with slow syncing if that is all I will have to deal with until I can afford a new Mac.

I can't say how well or if at all it will work on the older 1.1 USB bus.
But, you may be able to buy a USB 2 PCI card cheaply which should work also.

  • How do you tell which computer you origionally sync the ipod touch with?

I went to do the 2.0 update for ipod touch but it says make sure you have the ipod connected with the computer you sync with. I sync with both my mac and laptop but I think they mean the origional one you started with. How do you tell which one?

Make it the one. You have the power!
What they want is to make sure you are not doing this somewhere that you may lose the ability to connect the iPod (work, friend's house, internet cafe, library) because there is a file that will be downloaded to the computer, and if you need to restore at some point, iTunes will need that file.

  • Has anyone had a problem with the iPod touch 4 not charging?

I sent my iPod 4 in to get fixed and they are saying its my fault it won't charge. All of a sudden it quit charging and charging port is messed up. All I did was plug in the charger. I have had the iPod less than 2 months.

    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic. I Thin you did this and found problems
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $199 for 64 GB 4G and $99 for the other 4Gs. They do not fix yours.

A third-party place like the following will replace the connecto for less. Google for more.

  • I had my ipod for almost a year now and it the ipod touch with a camera. the new one. But today when I set it down for 2 seconds it STOPPED working. its been charging for an hour now. still not turning on. I didnt drop it. Whats wrong??

    the title says all

Did you try to reset your device by pressing the sleep and home button for about 10 sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose any data doing a reset.
If this does not work, try to connect in recovery mode, explained here: iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to restore

  • Will updating the ipod touch with the latest version delete everything?

Well, my ipod hasn't been updated in a while, mostly because I have a ton of podcasts that I don't want to get rid of. Now I know that itunes doesn't really like podcasts coming from the touch itself. So I can't upload my podcasts to my computer, so I was wondering if that updating my ipod from 2.2.1 to the current version would erase all of those. I don't really care about anything else because I have those backed up, but I can't get those podcasts back.
If I can't update it it's fine, I can still put music on it and stuff, but it is kind of annoying not being able to watch any youtube videos or look at podcasts anymore.

The first part of update is making a backup. However, a backup does not include items like podcast, music since they are synced to the iPod. Therefore, unless the podcast are on the computer they will be lost when updating.
Are you also saying that when you click on transfer purchases, the podcast you purchased on the iPod itself do not copy/transfer to the computer? If not, the following discussion tell how to move stuff off your iPod to a computer:

  • HT1476 Will the ipod touch charge with a wall charger?  I tried to use a wall charger by Nook and it didn't work.

Will the ipod touch charge with a wall charger?  I tried to use a NOOK wall charger, but the ipod touch wouldn't charge.

Likely the Nook charger does not provide enough power to charge the iPod with the screen on. You can try leaving the charger connected overnight (iPod sleeping) and see if it is charged in the morning.

  • Charging iPod touch with old AC-Firewire adapter?

    Hello,
I just recently bought an iPod touch, and wanted to know if it will work to charge it with the AC-Firewire adapter from my 2nd gen iPod. I also have the car charger for the 2nd gen. There are posts about doing it with an AC-usb adapter, but I didn't find anything about Firewire.
If no one knows, will it hurt to try it? I just don't want to screw up my new one. Thanks for the help.

Charging the iPod touch with FireWire is not possible.
Plugging it in won't hurt it but it will pop up a message saying that it will not charge.
