Starting and stopping applications via a Java-application on Windows/Unix

Hello,
I want to start java and other applications via a java application.
This java application should start several different applications on windows and
on unix systems and take care of their current state (e.g. running/not running).
For all applications to be started there are .sh-scripts for unix and .bat-scripts
for windows. In the scripts there could be a java call, e.g. "java someApplication",
or some executables could be called. These scripts set the applications' environment etc.
and start the application finally.
My java application calls these scripts via the ProcessBuilder API, which is working fine.
But there is the following problem: on windows, when executing a script that starts
some other application, the ProcessBuilder gives me process-handle to the started
process. If calling destroy() on this handle, only the cmd.exe gets killed which
started the application. The application itself is running on. This is undesired behaviour
since I want to be able to control the started applications, at least start and stop it which
is impossible that way.
On unix, it is working when using
"exec java someApplication"
instead of just
"java someApplication"
in the .sh-scripts. The exec command substitutes the shell process with the underlying
process started in the script, so everything is working as expected on unix.
But how could I get this working on windows systems? Is there any equivalent to the exec
command on unix? Any suggestions appreciated.

Yes - after looking at this option - I think that's the direction I am going to go. It probably makes sense to give my JMS topics and my BPEL server their own OC4J instances anyway - for a number of reasons.

Hi all
How do you put a email or HTML link into a Java application.
I want to put my web site address and email address into a about dialog.
I would like to be able to open the default email application and web site from this dialog box.

Try just making a label, and formatting it to look like a generic link. Then add a listener that performs the desired action when you click on it. The "desired action" would probably involve starting the user's default browser/mail-program and loading something in it. I have no idea how to do that, but the above should at least get you a "link" that responds when you click it, and that's a start.

How to run and control any program by java

No. Applications have to be specifically built to be able to be controlled by other programs; for example office applications allow you to communicate with them through a special protocol. To be able to communicate you need to know the protocol and write specific code for specific tasks.
The software world is not as simple as they show in movies, where hackers just press two buttons and take control over entire buildings and applications.

Bb chat and email do not connect to hotspots- wifi

at the hotel I am in the US there is free wifi--my provider is from another country - Using the hotspot of the hotel my bb connects only to internet and I am not receiving emails and I am not able to use the bb chat.. what can I do? this has never happened to me. I usually just scan for networks available..login to the hotspot and everything works.but its not happening.Can someone help me?

You can't use your BBM and email using Wi-fi, unless you have an active BlackBerry data plan. May I ask, does it work before?

How to compile and run package programs in Java

Hi,
I want to know how to compile and run the package programs in Java using -d. instead of creating the package folder manually.
eg:

I want to compile this without creating the folder ' Test ' manually. that is if we use -d with javac the Test folder will be created automatically. I need the format of -d

My program Test.java in F:\Tomcat5\webapps\Ambika\WEB-INF\Classes. I compiled in the format below. I got like this. What should I do for this? But yesterday I compiled like this only, It compiled and the folder com\cert\Test.class is created. Today again I compiled the pgm after deleting the already created folder 'com\cert', I got the error like this.

Email, Chat and Store should come preinstalled with the phone. You can try to reinstall the phone firmware or update it to the latest version. To reinstall or update your firmware, just connect the phone to your computer, open Nokia Suite and select Tools > Software Update.
If this does not solve the issue, we would advice you to visit your nearest Nokia Care Point and let them have a look.

Regarding Yahoo chat and YouTube application of No...

It's been less than a month since I bought my Nokia X2-01. Since day 1 I am trying to login to my Yahoo chat and it's showing Error 409. I tried calling Nokia's Bangalore customer care center and I didn't get any help. My inbuilt YouTube was working fine, but from yesterday onwards it's opening to Nokia Store - Audio Video. Again I called Bangalore customer care center. They asked me to get the software updated from the nearest customer care center. When I asked the customer care center people they said they don't do it there. Can anybody help me? I really regret for buying Nokia now!

You need to use the search functionality of the supervisor/agent. The chat transcripts will be stored in the case details which can be printed off. You can search for things based on date/agent name/queue etc etc. You can read the agent guides below which give you more details.

1) any practical use of P2P multicast will have a delay measured in seconds. it shouldn't go to 30 seconds unless you have a large NetStream.bufferTime.
2) i strongly recommend against changing the multicast stream parameters. they all interact with each other. decreasing the window duration will decrease the effective reliability of the stream, by reducing the amount of time to receive all of the fragments of the stream as they pass through the P2P group -- especially when people join or leave the group, which can disrupt the low latency "push" trees that are constructed in the group.
3) you should be able to change the encoding parameters on the fly without a major disruption. are you using H.264 or Sorenson Spark? it's possible that your camera doesn't like to have its capture size changed and it is freezing temporarily. i'm not having any trouble changing the capture size with my camera (and using H.264). i recall there being some issue with changing the frames-per-second on the fly (at least some time ago, and i don't remember what the issue is) -- there was enough of an issue that i disabled it in my little app while actively publishing.

Hei, question: with last Nokia software it was possible to see open programs/applications and switch between them. I can not find this option available in Belle.
If I open Radio and Sportstracker and I need to make a call, then how to minimize Sportstracker and afterwards switch back. Right now I press the button on N8 and then go to menu, but it is too many pressings.

So have an applet that opens a JFrame... JSP or not has nothing to do with it, since it's nothing but HTML the client gets.
You can't have a JFrame embedded in an HTML page. And if you could have an applet but don't know how to get that copied code to fit inside (I mean, content pane is content pane), you might want to consider learning how to do that.
