Check Your Plugins gives a wrong answer about Shockwave Flash

Fist of all, the page lists [http://www.adobe.com/products/shockwaveplayer/ Shockwave Flash] but it reports details about [http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ Macromedia Flash]. This is in concert with the terminology used in the Plugin Manager; I wonder whence this error came from.
Now to the important part: The page [http://www.mozilla.com/plugincheck/ Check Your Plugins] tells me I have Shockwave Flash 10.3 r181 and it is up to date. However, [http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ Adobe Flash Player] tells me I have 10,3,181,14 installed while current is 10.3.181.22. The difference is [http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb11-13.html CVE-2011-2107], so this mistake is not harmless.

16.0.0.'''296''' is the most current on https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html and is indeed vulnerable though in next day the 16.0.0.'''305''' may be there.
However if you have automatic updates enabled in Adobe Flash player it should give you the new update 16.0.0.'''305'''

  • Check your plugins page will not stop showing

    My user keeps getting the "Check your plugin" page showing on startup. I need this page to stop showing regardless of any plugins that need updates. We use an outdated version of a plugin that we can not update due to a program that requires it. (vendor only updates software 4x a year)
    Any way to remove this annoying page?

  • Nokia, come up and give us an answer about PR1.3

    Hey Nokia,
    despite several semi-official announcements and tweets from your employess, the N9 community has not received, nor has been properly informed about the actual date and availability of alleged PR1.3 FW for Nokia N9....
    please stop teasing and deceiving all the people who invested their hard earned money into one of your products and give an official announcement on this matter...
    Is there or is there not going to be PR1.3 available for Nokia N9?

  • Can someone give a simple answer about mirroring please  ;-)

    I have a few iMac G5's and am thinking about picking up some more. They are the flat panel, all in one types.
    We need a second monitor to be added so people have a larger desktop for menu's, control panels, etc....
    I'd like to buy a Cinema Display to do this.
    Will it work or not?? It "sounds" like mirroring is only the same thing that's on your corrent monitor, not a true "SECOND" monitor? Don't see what good it is if that's the case. If it's not a "second" monitor that can be used, why are the ports there??
    many thanks

    Hi Mike and Ybysaiah,
    This is a firmware hack. The website Mike cited is dotted with warnings and rightly so. Get it wrong, and you will have a dead computer.
    You may also have issues if system updates are released that include (newer) graphics drivers that are incompatible with the adjusted firmware settings this hack causes.
    I'm not saying "don't do it". I'm just suggesting you be very careful, and aware of the possible consequences.
    Cheers!
    Karl

  • Firefox Check Your Plugins found "unknown plug-ins". My other plug-ins are up to date. To keep Firefox running safely and smoothly can the "unknowns" be safely uninstalled? How do I know if I need them? Where do they come from?

    These are the Plug-ins in question;
    Yahoo! activeX Plug-in Bridge Unknown plugin Research
    Microsoft® DRM
    DRM Netscape Network Object Unknown plugin Research
    RealPlayer Version Plugin
    12.0.1.666 Unknown plugin Research

    RealNetworks(tm) Chrome Background Extension Plug-In (32-bit)
    RealNetworks(tm) RealPlayer Chrome Background Extension Plug-In Unknown plugin Research
    RealJukebox NS Plugin

    I cannot say with certainty any plugins known or unknown installed on my computer are problematic. My other plugins are up to date. "Unresponsive Scripts" comes up quite often. No particular website, Grooveshark and Centurylink more than any others. Are the two (Plug-ins and Scripts) related?

    option discovered in preferences. Really this and any feature that moves deletes or edits a users data should as far as possible be OFF BY DEFAULT. It shouldn't by default and without the users specific say do this dangerous and unnecessary thing without even letting the user know what it's doing!!! And then cause me a few hours (as i'm new to mac) searching for the option so as to switch it off. If i hadn't noticed the status cage declaring that it was copying files then i might never have twigged that this insane thing was occurring. And if i hadn't of noticed i would have been left maintaining the contents of the folder i copied the files to, the folder which as far as i was informed and so believed was also the location of the music files i was playing. How does Apple justify this 'genius' piece of software non-design? Surely it will hurt no one if this was off by default for new users - overall at least i dare say it would cause a lot less distress in the future for the unsuspecting public at large. Thanks for the support.

  • Cannot trust calculator 50g to give the right answer

    50G gives the wrong answers:
    Pick equation from Library:  APPS; Equation Library, F1, F1, Plane Geometry, Rectangle, F1, enter number for b and h, solve for A. ( Lets go with b=6, h=2, and A will become 12). So far so good.
    Now R-Shift NUM.SLV; pick Solve Equation, Leave A the way it is, and change for example b, and solve for h.
    Do that a couple of times sooner or later you will get Following:
    A=12_cm sq
    b=3_cm
    h=3.99999999999_cm
    You have a 50-50 chance of getting the right answer or something ending with .0000000001 or.99999999998 or whatever.
    Deleting variables doesn't change much.
    I have duplicated this on other 50G's, all running latest ROM.
    Anyone has a solution?
    Thanks

    wolven wrote:
    There is the right answer and there is the HP answer, that's as simple as that.
    One would think that a calculator could do a job of an 8 year old.
    Unfortunately 50g fails to do that in terms of speed and accuracy.
    The HP-50g is correct  considering the constraints of a 12-digit machine.
    I would like to encourage you to expand your understanding of numerical computations.
    I would suggest you read material for example by Prof. W. Kahan.
    Start with: A logarithm too clever by half
    Now some calculators may seem to find the exact solution, but do they really? See the following on rounding:
    http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~wkahan/Mindless.pdf
    (a shorter presentation on the subject: http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~wkahan/Mind1ess.pdf )
    If, after reading the above and doing some more research, you have more questions - please feel free to ask.
    If you wish to have more accuracy, I could point you to programs that can help increase the accuracy of the 50g.
    Kind regards.
    Note: I do not work for HP, I just like playing with calculators :-)

  • Can't update Shockwave Flash plugin

    I'm only updating Shockwave Flash because the plugin page says to do it; otherwise I have no problems. The sequence of updating problems I am having is different from that described by others:
    1) Checked for plugin updates: Shockwave Flash 11.1 r102 was highlighted as "Vulnerable" with red UPDATE NOW.
    2) Clicked on Update Now and was prompted to download Adobe Flash Player 11.1.102.62 (not Shockwave Flash); Ran downloaded .exe file to install; Closed Firefox during install as requested and installation completed.
    3) Opened Firefox; Checked plugins and now saw notice that Flash Player version was out-of-date and disabled.
    4) As test, played a youtube video; Clicked on prompt at top of screen for "missing plugin"; Update self-executed, requested closing Firefox, and completed installation.
    4) Opened Firefox; Checked plugins and once again saw that Shockwave Flash needed UPDATE NOW (as described in #1 above). Adobe Flash Player is not listed anywhere in the plugin list.
    So now I'm back to where I was before, wondering if I really am vulnerable due to this version of Shockwave Flash.

    Note: Adobe Flashplayer (aka Flash) shows in Add-ons > Plugins as "Shockwave Flash (version)", a bit of confusion caused by Adobe.
    There are 2 versions of Adobe Flash:
    *an '''ActiveX version''' for IE only
    *a '''Plugin version''' for most other browsers including Firefox
    *On a Windows system, you should always update both individually.
    '''''You have the Plugin version for Firefox installed, but the last two digits do not show. ''''' In Add-ons > Plugins you should see "Shockwave Flash ''(version)''". You can test and see the full version at Step 4, below.
    Check your Plugins often --> http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/
    *only the most popular/used Plugins are known by this page
    *page will detect only installed, '''''enabled''''' Plugins
    '''<u>Install or update Adobe Flash</u>'''<br />
    #'''<u>Using Firefox</u>''', go to the following link and SAVE the download to your desktop so you can find it later. Un-check any items on that page that you do not want to download (i.e., "McAfee Security Scan Plus":
    #*http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer
    #When the download is finished, close Firefox (File > Exit '''''OR''''' Firefox button > Exit)
    #Click or double-click on the file you just saved to your desktop
    #*In the installation window that appears, click the box to the left of "I have read and...." to place a check mark in the box
    #*The "Install" button in the lower right corner will now be highlighted, click it.
    #*The installation is quick.
    #Start Firefox and test your installation here: https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
    #To update/install the ActiveX version for IE '''''only''''', repeat the process, '''<u>but use IE to go to the above website</u>'''.
    NOTE: Some users of 64-bit systems have found it necessary to download, Save and install (''with Firefox closed'') the 32-bit '''''Plugin''''' for Firefox manually from the following (''4th link labeled "32 bit Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)"''):

  • Firefox Plugins lists Shockwave Flash 12.0.0.70 but Adobe lists this as Adobe Flash Player, and Version 12.0.9.149 as Adobe Shockwave Player, so wtf is going on

    Flash causes us all immense confusion, and Firefox is adding to the problem.
    My Firefox Add-ons page lists (under Plugins -- isn't there a difference?) that I have:
    Shockwave Flash 12.0.0.70 which is set to "Always Activate".
    Adobe websites list:
    Adobe Flash Player 12.0.0.70
    Adobe Shockwave Player 12.0.9.149
    -- so what on earth is the Firefox-listed "Shockwave Flash"?
    This simply adds to the utter confusion already surrounding Flash Player -- which I cannot find anywhere amongst my Programs -- but which I can find under "Uninstall or change a Program" where it is listed as "Adobe Flash Player 12 Plugin".
    There is also the thorny issue of FlashPlayer vs. FlashPlayerDownloader......
    I need a flash of inspiration to get me out of shock -- I'm not waving, I'm drowning!

    In the internals of the plugin it is still referenced as Shockwave Flash. That hasn't changed as it would break websites that check for a specific plugin name. You can see that on the about:plugins page and in the properties of the Flash plugins file.
    You can open the Web Console (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer) and paste this JavaScript code in the command line to see how the Adobe Flash Player plugin identifies itself:
    <pre><nowiki>console.log(navigator.plugins["Shockwave Flash"].name);
    console.log(navigator.plugins["Shockwave Flash"].description);
    </nowiki></pre>
    *https://developer.mozilla.org/Tools/Web_Console
    On disk you will also see Macromedia for folder names used by the plugin.
    *32 bit Windows: C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\
    *64 bit Windows: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\
    * C:\Users\&lt;user&gt;\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\

  • In Firefox 4, how do I change the order of plugins on the Add-ons Plugins manager page (I turn Shockwave Flash on only to see videos - having it off prevents screen freezing - and so I want it stay at the top of the list)?

    In Firefox 4, how do I change the order of plugins on the Add-ons Plugins manager page? I turn Shockwave Flash on only when I want to watch a video and then turn it off to prevent screen freezing, and so I want it to PUT it and KEEP it at the top of the list.

    Hit Ctrl+0 (That's a zero, by the way). I'm not sure if it will work, but hey, that's the first thing I would try.

  • When I click Tools and then plugins and check whether my plugins are up to date or not, Firefox gives me a notice saying my Flash Player is an outdated version and must be replaced.

    I am trying to do something that requires Flash Player, but even though it shows in my control panel, and it is the latest version, I keep seeing a notice that it is disabled, and it does not appear in the list of plugins, so I don't know how to enable it.
    I have been installing the same version over and over again since yesterday, but when I go to check the plugin, a box appears saying it is disabled. When I go in Tools to the list oif plugins, it is not there! Very frustrating. edit

    In Add-ons > Plugins, you must enable "Shockwave Flash (version)"; that is Adobe Flash. Click the "Enable" button next to it. The most current version is 10.3.183.10, which was released just a few days ago.
    '''''"Installed Plug-ins''''' <br />
    '''''Many but they are all disabled."'''''
    Did you disable all of your plugins? Why?
    You need to re-enable your plug-ins in Add-ons > Plugins, then check them to see if they are current and update as necessary.
    You may need to update some plug-ins. Check your plug-ins and update as necessary:

    You have multiple old Java Console '''''extensions''''' that Java did not clean-up during updates. This appears to be a bug in Mozilla Firefox but no one has yet filed a report in [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org Bugzilla].
    If you would be so kind to give more details, I will help you and the others to file a bug report so engineers can take a look at it.
