Checkbox applies a formula in Numbers?

I have a sheet with my business's income, profit, etc.
I'd like to have a checkbox for each row that, when checked applies a formula (*.971-.3) to a cell to subtract the PayPal fees for the transaction. If no check in the box, then no formula is applied to the cell.
How would I do this?
Thanks!

If your checkbox is in B2 and the value you want to apply the formula to is in C2 and the result will be in D2:
D2=IF(B2,C2*0.971-0.3,C2)
The result will either be a straight passthrough of the value in C2 or will apply the formula

I am trying to apply the same formula to successive row in a spreadsheet that I am using...how do I go about this?

Apologies for not replying immediately! I have now managed to organise my entire stock list for my business; I just had a major brain blockage as to how to copy and paste formulae in columns, added to which I've never had any formal training in IT.  I'm not too old to try and have a can do attitude and so far I managed ok. Now I've started my own business I'm putting what I've taught myself in to practice and I'm pleasantly surprising myself with the results.
Thank you again for your help,

  • Applying a formula to a whole column

    Hi,
Is there anyway to apply a formula to a whole column?
I have three column's in a table: Hours worked, Rate and total earnings for that job (=Hours worked x Rate).
I've set it up so as I can enter the information in a form and if I create a new entry in that form, it automatically adds a new row to the table. The only trouble is that I can only use "Fill" to copy the formula to the visible cells. If a row is automatically added, the formula isn't extended.
I'm currently using the Numbers App on an iPad 2.
    Thanks Jake

    JM,
The iOS version is young. It seems to lack the brains to extend the formula when rows are inserted or when the table has a row added at the end. The Mac version takes care of this. The rule on the Mac version is that if every cell in a column has the same formula in it, that formula will be replicated in the new rows. I'm very new to the iOS version, but nothing I have tried for this has worked except to Copy an nearby cell and Past it to the new row.

  • Beginner question: Can I apply one formula to all cells in a column?

    Hi,
I'm new to spreadsheets, so apologies for asking what is probably a very simple question.
I want to apply a formula that divides the values in one column (W) by values in another (AX) for a table containing 3000 rows, and outputs the result for each row into the appropriate cell in the new column I've created.
Numbers 09 'help' hasn't helped to this point.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Besides Numbers '09 Help there are two other useful resources available in the Help menu: the Numbers '09 User Guide and iWork Formulas and Functions Help.
For "Beginner questions," my first choice would be the User Guide. For the specific question you asked, a quick scan of the chapter on "Using Formulas and Functions" (pp 83-96) will provide some useful information. Start in the neighborhood of page 93.

  • EVDRE reporting not stable: "hiding columns" & applying datarange formula"

    Hi,
we use BPC 5.1. (SP6) With several EVDRE reports we experience that our excell session sometimes stops working, typically when changing the CV and expanding again. At the bottom of the excell we see the statements:
"hiding columns" or also "applying datarange formulas".
I wait for more than 10 minutes, but nothing changes and I can't do anything anymore and have to abort excell with CTRL + ALT + DEL ...
Does anyone experience the same problems? (We work with Office 2007)
    regards
    Dries

    Hi,
I cannot test with Office 2003 since I don't have it installed ..., I typically have it with EVDRE reports, not with schedules created from a template. Numbers of members to be expanded, maximum 10, for which 10 accounts are displayed (so max 100 lines) ... We do not have many data in our system yet, lets say 20.000 records max.

Both the Numbers '09 User Guide (which covers the use of the arithmetic operators ( + - * / ) and the iWork Formulas and Functions User Guide (which discusses QUOTIENT and the rest of the functions supported in Numbers and the other iWork applications) can be downloaded through the Help menu in Numbers.

  • Creating formulas in Numbers - quick key to reference cells

Former Excel person, moving over to Numbers -- very simple question on how I can use keystrokes to reference cells when creating a formula, rather than typing in the cell or using the mouse. In Excel would just type "=", then could use the arrows keys to move around and go into the first cell for the formula, type "+", then arrow around to the second cell and hit Enter.

As Yvan has pointed out, Numbers offers an alternative to large spreadsheets, that being multiple tables & sheets. As you point out, moving around a large spreadsheet is not fast, even when using cursor keys (which I am assuming are the same thing as arrow keys, there being just the one set on my keyboard).
Assuming you can break your large spreadsheets down into smaller ones, you may find that navigation is remarkably quick because you can click on any table in any sheet to immediately jump to another one (even when creating cell or range references) rather than having to transverse large areas of a single spreadsheet one cell at a time.
If you are interested in exploring this approach, you may find my comments in the thread Generating values for grades useful as a description of how this can be applied when creating cell references in Numbers.
It may not be the right approach for your needs, but unless you know about it, you can't compare it to other approaches, right?

  • Applying Password-protection for Numbers files?

It looks great -- at first view. I grabbed my standard Excel file with all my misc. stuff in it, and hit the first snag. It was password-protected, so Numbers wasn't going to let me import it. Okay, that makes sense. So I figure out how to unprotect the file and manage to get it into Numbers. But when I went to apply a password requirement to open it, no joy.
This seems to be a no-brainer to me, a must-have feature. But the Help tool couldn't find anything on it. If it truly isn't supported then what was supposed to be the Red Letter Day of finally getting rid of the last Microsoft applications is going to have to be delayed until Apple releases an update.
    Ideas?

    - 1 - remove the protection

Yes, but that is not the case I am talking about. You talk about a sender who uses a Mac and knows that the receiver may have problems opening his files.
I am talking about a PC user who sends out encrypted MS Office documents in the belief that all the recipients have MS Office.
Example: Let's assume that you work for one of the big companies in Sophia Antipolis or for Carrefour in Antibes. Their management asks all the employees if they can read MS Office files. Everyone who says "yes" gets a confidential encrypted Excel file with pension calculations mailed to them. The other ones get the form in paper format. If you have iWork, you will have to wait for the paper version to arrive. You will have to fill it in on paper and you will have to verify the calculations manually. In some cases there may not even be a paper version available.
And I am talking about the Mac user who wants to send protected data to a PC user. As the PC User cannot open a Mac disk image, the only solution I can see for an iWork user is an encrypted PDF, and that one will not be editable by the receiver.
I am not saying that Apple has a duty to fulfill those requirements or that Apple should promote MS Office as a format. I am only saying that as long as iWork does not support password protection, some of iWork's users will have this kind of problems.
But maybe we are not giving the same meaning to "file protection".
For me it means "keep it from others view" aka "access denied"
Maybe, for you, it means "don't give the ability to edit it" aka "read only"
We give exactly the same meaning to the expression "file protection".

  • Using several checkboxes in a formula

    Hi,
I have a sheet with three columns; Price, Name1, Name2. Name1 and Name2 have checkboxes on every row where there's a price added.
I then have a two cells further away that are trying to calculate the price for each name. Eg. if the price is 100 and Name1's checkbox is ticked and not Name2's checkbox, it will add 100 to name 1. If they are both checked it'll add 50 (100/2).
My formula for Name1's total sum is: "=SUMIF(Name1,TRUE,Price/IF(Name2,2,1))"
However it says that "SUMIF requires that all range arguments are the same size". It appears that when using the IF in SUMIF Name2's range is being started from row 1 and now row 2 like Price and Name1.
    Regards
    David

I'm not sure that I correctly understood your proposal.
    Here is mine:
In cells of column E the formula is:
    =IF(AND(C=TRUE,D=TRUE),0.5,IF(OR(C=TRUE,D=TRUE),1,0))
    In G2 it is:
    =SUMIFS($B,C,TRUE,$E,1)+(SUMIFS($B,C,TRUE,$E,0.5)/2)
    In H2 fill to right gives;
    =SOMME.SIS($B;D;VRAI;$E;1)+(SOMME.SIS($B;D;VRAI;$E;0,5)/2)

  • Creating Logical formulas in Numbers '09

I need to apply a cost per square inch on art work. The cost/sq in decreases in increments as the total area increases. Is it possible to have a formula recognize the category of a particular area and apply the appropriate cost per square inch?
    Thank you

Would something like this work? The bottom table (Table 2) is the cost schedule. The formulas in Table 1 look for the largest "Sq In" in Table 2 that is equal to or less than the canvas size in Table 1 then multiplies it by the canvas size to determine the cost. For example, for a 100 sq in canvas the value returned is $0.10, which is then multiplied by the canvas size (100 sq in) for a cost of $10. A 150 sq in canvas would also return $0.10 for a total cost of $15. A 210 sq in canvas would return $0.09 for a cost of $18.90.
If your cost scale is such that the first 100 sq in costs X, the second 100 costs Y, etc. and you add up these increments to get the total cost, this idea won't work. Something very similar can be done, though.

  • Work around for Excel "Array Formula" in Numbers?

I have an Excel spreadsheet which I have built over many years to manage maintenance tasks of my boat. I would like to convert this to run on Numbers. Unfortunately I can't find a work-around for Excel's "Array Formulas".
The column headers of my spreadsheet contain maintenance tasks (plus data on how frequently by days or engine hours these jobs need to done). When I complete a maintenance task, I log the date and engine hours in a new row with an "x" to signify that the job is done. Excel then looks up the date/engine hours when each job was last done (ie the lowest "x") and then uses conditional formatting to highlight the column headers of which jobs are overdue. Is there a work around for this in Numbers?

It not clear from your post, but I get the impression you are inquiring about Numbers for OSX. This is the iOS iWork forum. You may want to repost here: https://discussions.apple.com/community/iwork/numbers
If I'm wrong, and you are asking about Numbers for iOS, these links may help: http://help.apple.com/numbers/ipad/2.2/#/tan5ca02385

But Numbers for iOS does not fully support conditional text.

  • Help Applying a formula to the last payment in a clients recordset.

    Post Author: Bpilot
    CA Forum: Formula
Can someone help me write a formula that would allow me to apply the following formula to the LAST payment a client makes. The formula is initially designed to look at a customers payment against their amount owing. If their payment is greater then their balance the report only shows the amount necessary to pay off the customers account.  This works fine if the report only shows 1 payment for the client in the report, as soon as the client has 2+ payments and the last one overpays then all payments show what is required to pay off the account.  Not ideal as you can understand.I am thinking the best way to do this is with a For loop but I cannot write one and I was hoping someone could help me out with this.  The code is below, the logic on the fields is below, I am just at a loss and will provide any and all help I can towards getting help.
    My original fomula is this:
    If {@Display Selection} = "Display" then
    if {AFACCOUNT.AFACCURBALINT} >= 0 then
    {AFSPLIT.AFSPAMT}*(-1)
    else
    ({AFSPLIT.AFSPAMT}-{AFACCOUNT.AFACCURBALINT})*(-1)
    else
    0.00
{@Display Selection} is a formula that evaluates each financial
transaction to determine if it should be Displayed on the report or
Not-Displayed based on date ranges and transaction type. This works
    fine.
{AFACCOUNT.AFACCURBALINT} is where we store the accounts current
balance with interest. Despute appearing in our system as a positive
number, it is really a negative number (it is money owed to us)
{AFSPLIT.AFSPAMT} is where we store the payment amount. It appears in a
negative value to subtract from the {AFACCOUNT.AFACCURBALINT} but is in
    fact a positive number.
{ARACCONT.ARACID} is the unique customer identifier.
{AFTRANSACTION.TRKEY} is the unique transaction ID (each payment for {AFSPLIT.AFSPAMT} has a unique TRKEY)
What I am thinking the best way to do this, if its possible is this.
A For loop that counts the number of times the {ARACCONT.ARACID} appears in the crystal report.
It then selects the last payment which will also have the highest
{AFTRANSACTION.TRKEY} . I don't know if you can just say to select the
last payment or if you would need something to relate to, which could
    be the {AFTRANSACTION.TRKEY}.
Once that is selected then it would apply the following formula.
    If {@Display Selection} = "Display" then
    if {AFACCOUNT.AFACCURBALINT} >= 0 then
    {AFSPLIT.AFSPAMT}*(-1)
    else
    ({AFSPLIT.AFSPAMT}-{AFACCOUNT.AFACCURBALINT})*(-1)
    else
    0.00
all else transactions would display the following:
    If {@Display Selection} = "Display" then
    {AFSPLIT.AFSPAMT}*(-1)
    else
    0.00
Can someone help me write this report?  It would be greatly appreciated and help me save what little hair I have left?

    Post Author: Bpilot
    CA Forum: Formula
It does.  {AFTRANSACTION.AFTREFFDTE} is the effective date of the payment.I have included a screen shot. The report has to keep its same display format. Accounts are grouped by the date they were listed in our system, then sorted their TREFFDTE .@positive is where the formula needs to go, or eventually will reference from. There is a running total in the footer of each group that totals @positive.

Rows 1,2 and 10 added (Row 2 is Table name in horizontally merged cells), but the currency and formula work .
