Chip out of my macbook!!

Hey, there's a huge chip taken out of my macbook, i'm not sure how it happened as i hardly take it anywhere, but does anyone know how much a new macbook exterior would cost?

Hi matty,
Here is link that posted by First Magus, but it applied on US and I don't know how much in poundsterling:

But I think you can estimate the range from that table.
Good Luck.

can anyone tell me how to get sound out of my macbook pro. i bought a miniport display/hdmi adapter for my tv but in network preferences i got video to work but not sond. i cant get my tv to come up as a listed device so that i can change setting on output audio. i was told maybe something is disabled as devices so confused any help greatly appreciated 516angelo

Your Mac does not have a thunderbolt port, but has a mini display port instead. It will not output sound so you will have to get sound through a aux cable.

You can upgrade to Mountain Lion
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99.
If you sign into the App Store and try to purchase Mountain Lion but the App Store says your computer is not compatible then you may still be able to upgrade to Lion per the following information.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.

    Sulapeace,
for how long has your MacBook Pro been recharging? Has the light on your MagSafe connector changed color since you’d started recharging it? What do your battery level indicator lights show when you press the button next to them?

  • My pinch zoom-in and out in my Macbook Air isnt working. Help!

Can someone please help me.. my pinch zoom in and out in my macbook air isnt working. It happened about 2 weeks ago, in the settings all the zoom preferences are checked so i dont know whats wrong with it. The pinch zoom is the only thing not working, the double tap zoom and all the rest of the capabilities of my trackpad are working properly. I called apple but they couldnt help through the phone and wants me to pay $19.99 for a one time help.. Please help!

I've also noticed that the iPhoto zoom is erratic. Sometimes I try to use the trackpad to zoom, but the image just blurs for a second instead of zooming in.
I experimented a little and found that it helps, when zooming in, to make sure that your two fingers are very close together when starting.

Trying to upgrade Os X. 14 out of 15 MacBooks installed succesfully. One machine keeps spitting out the CD! Why? What can be done to upgrade machine?

Sounds like the optical drive may be on it's way out. It should be possible to connect the Mac to one of the others by firewire and do the installation by booting from the install disc in the donor Mac, then choosing the remote HD as the target when prompted.

  • Gettng a CD out of my macbook

Good morning!  I cannot get a CD out of my macbook. I have tried attaching a mouse, pressing the eject button and yet no response. Please advise.  Thank ou!

Hi Mark and welcome to Apple Support Communities!
It looks like you have tried some but perhaps not all of the eject methods described in this article. Give the rest a shot. If those don't work, you may want to have someone at an Apple store or service provider look at your MacBook, possibly the drive needs to be replaced.
    Best of luck.

  • Cant get Mini-DVI to video (TV OUT) adapter working - MacBook in Windows XP

    Hi there
Using Windows XP on my MacBook (mid 2007 model) via Bootcamp I can't seem to get the Apple Mini-DVI to video adapter working ( M9319 is the part number)
When I plug it in it makes the Macbook freeze about every 10 seconds and you can hear a sound in windows thats similar to when you plug a new device in like a pen drive etc - so it sounds like its dected the adapter but getting no further....
any advice would be much appriciated

Wow, I'm glad I found this topic, I was beginning to think it was just me. Just like you guys, I have tried everything, and have received the same results. I really hope we can get an answer to this soon, because I need to run Sax 'N Dottys Karaoke presenter, (via Windows Vista/BootCamp) next week!! Without a video out, Im screwed. (Unless anyone knows of a comparable MAC Karaoke presenter that will read MP3G's)

  • How do I get the coffee stain out of my MacBook Pro screen? Spilled coffee on it e

I spilled coffee on my MacBook Pro this morning .... used the cool setting on my blow dryer for 20 mintues to dry out the keypad ....
Switched it back on in 4 hours .... everything works , except I now have a coffee stain behind my screen .... is there a way to absorb that out
or do I have to buy a new lid for my computer ?

You might have to have a new screen installed.  It's not too expensive ($160) and it's DIY, if you have the right tools and skills.

  • Can I use the HDMI Out on my macbook pro retina for audio without connecting a video device?

While the MBP has TOSLINK output from the headphone jack, TOSLINK does not have the bandwidth to carry the high resolution audio from many blu-rays and DVD-Audio disks. I would like to hook my MBP to an audio-only HDMI sink so I can pipe the multichannel output to my surround speaker setup.
My concern is that the MBP will get "confused" and do one of the following things - both of which are "bad":
    1) It will decide that a video device is there, and put the desktop on the nonexistent HDMI display OR
    2) It will decide to send no signal at all (no video, no audio) because it sees no video device.
    Any thoughts on this?
In short - thinking of using something like this: http://www.ambery.com/2hddodtsdihd.html
with the HDMI out of the MBP and then piping its 6 discrete analog outputs to my old (but excellent for computer speakers) Logitech Z680 setup.
But I want any movie video to remain unperterbed on my Thunderbolt display. And if I am not watching a movie and am just listening to multichannel FLACs or something, then I'd like to run the media player normally and have the usual desktop on my MBP or Thunderbolt display.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks to all!!

QUESTION 1: Is there anyway that I can buy a new logic board with upgraded graphics card and it will work?
Not from Apple, you can go to the grey market if you choose but it is most likely that the only MB that will work is the one you already have.

I have also read a little bit into using the Thunderbolt port as a means to run an additional graphics card through, the hardware for it being built by a company named Sonnet.
QUESTION 2: Is this an option that will actually work with my Macbook Pro setup and give me better graphics card capabilities?
Maybe, if the Sonnet is properly Thunderbolt compatible it should.
