Choppy Slow Loading.....again

I have been reading other peoples posts on the slow loading of sites, the choppiness and the problem with viewing on windows.
I have made 4 or 5 sites now and most have been ok to get by, but my new one seems to load alot worse. Whats the point of having a website program to make simple web sites if you have to be a guru to get them to work properly?
Is the optimization program the only choice? What is a good one?
I ran my site through a checker and it said too many objects and images sizes where too big? It wanted the page less than 30k?? Most of my images are 4k 12k and sometimes 20k Only my splash page is 128k. This should be more than fine for hispeed users.
PLease check out my site www.soundministry.ca

Let me know any thoughts

Your site loads OK for me.
You could try HTML optimizer. It will optimize 50% of your files in the trial version....
http://www.tonbrand.nl/
You can drop your photo files into ImageWell and it will give you an indication of the download time on dial-up and allow you to reduce them.....

More than half the surfers in the USA are still using dial-up!.
A lot of people put a hundred photos or three or more movies on a page and wonder why they are slow to download.

  • AME CS6 painfully slow loading large quantities of clips.

I'm using AME CS6 to transcode clips to prepare clips for delivery to a client that will only accept OP1a MXF's.  I have hundreds of clips to transcode and AME CS6 is unbearably slow loading them.  Usually I set up a watch folder but in this case I have two batches to run, one with about 750 individual clips and one with about 450.  Using watch folders just completely brought AME to it's knees trying to transcode a file while updating the queue.  I've just spent two hours loading the clips into AME by dragging/dropping them into the queue (that time includes time spent waiting while AME hangs while trying to change the codec/output setting).
Earlier versions of AME were no where near as slow as this.  Even just scrolling up/down the queue that used to be fluid is now a click, wait, update..click, wait update process.  I could have copied the files from drive to drive in less time than this took to load/index.  Is there anything that can be done to speed up this process?

lasvideo, thanks but that's not the same problem I am having. Appreciate you chiming in though!
Stephen, thanks for writing. It's a pretty massive project and because clips often criss-cross between segments I have been working everything inside the same edit. I also wanted to see just how hard I could push Premiere (I've been using Premiere for 7 years now). Mind you once everything loads it still does just fine. Edits like a champ. Just was a bit frustrating with the load time.
On #1, I don't have time machine set-up anymore as I ate up all my space.
On #2 this is an interesting suggestion. I'm letting project manager analyze my project right now. I've never used project manager to break off individual edits so this should be interesting. Yes, just me on one machine. I'm shooting and editing at the same time and also doing graphics so I reckon by December. I have two full backups of all footage and edit files and save to a new edit file every couple of days (plus I have auto-save rolling).
And for whatever reason, today when I opened a different project and then went back to the large project, suddenly the problem dissappeared. Weird but there it is. All 20,000 clips now load again under 4 minutes.
    Thanks for the assistance.
    Best, Dare

  • Extremely slow loading a wiki page on localhost?

    Howdy,
I've set up a wiki on my localhost using mediawiki (php module in Apache.)
Safari is extremely (~15mins?) slow loading the main page, but I have no trouble loading this page in <1 sec using either Firefox or IE. I have tried the usual cleanups of Safari support files (trashing plist, cleaning up fonts, clearing history/cache, resetting Safari completely, etc.). Strangely, the file will eventually load if I let it go for more than 15 minutes. Any refresh or 'back' actions cause a new wait time to load.
I don't seem to have any problems with other pages loading from my localhost server and I don't have any trouble loading other mediawiki pages on other servers.
    Any suggestions?
    LL

One more interesting piece of datum:
I also experience this very long delay when I try to load this same wiki page from Safari on a powerbook on the local network.
However, again Firefox has no problem with the same page.

  • Airpot Extreme SLOW LOADING

I recently upgraded to an Airport Extreme from a LinkSys BEFSR41. The LinkSys router was working great, I just wanted to go wireless. However, with the new router, even connected via Ethernet cable, it can take 30-45 seconds to load webpages, even after loading for the first time, closing Safari, and loading again. The LinkSys router was near instantaneous.
I installed the software for the Airport Extreme, updated everything I could find and have also reset Safari. I even checked my speed via SpeedTest.net and that's fine... just can't seem to load anything. I even called Apple Support and had a tech check everything with me and she said everything was fine.
This is driving me crazy! Any ideas?

    KayBeeStew wrote:
I understand the Extreme can run *two speeds at once* but someone said something about the unit working at the speed of the slowest equipment on the network.
The "two speeds" of the new Extreme refer to its ability to run simultaneous 802.11g and 802.11n wireless networks. Wired network performance is completely unrelated to this characteristic.
The comment regarding "working at the speed of the slowest equipment on the network" applied to the Extreme's predecessor; the single-band model. In that case, all your equipment had to operate in 802.11n mode to realize the highest possible performance, if any equipment was 801.11g only, the entire network would revert to that slower protocol.
In any event, since your wired performance is also suffering, the statement is a red herring for you. Also, I believe the lengthy delay involved with loading a page you describe would not be diagnostic in your case. Network speed tests would also show consistently slower throughput, and you said that's not the case. DNS problems would definitely cause what you describe but Duane already covered that (here it is for your reference):
Usually this indicates that the DNS server is overloaded or having problems. You can try using opendns. In your Network preference pane, in the DNS field, enter the values 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.
    By all means use OpenDNS!!!
Also be sure to reset your modem every time you change what's directly connected to it. Every time. Failure to do that will also cause what you're describing. Make it a habit.
If there are old cables could the Extreme drop down in speed?
Damaged or otherwise compromised cables can cause wired performance to be less than optimal, but since they worked fine with your Linksys router I doubt this is your problem.
I just hate to invest in new cables if that's not the issue.
It would be nice to try other cables; you don't have to pay retail prices - check Craigslist or eBay, just make sure they specifically say "Category 5e" or "gigabit Ethernet" rated. Cables are incredibly cheap.
From what you describe, I'd say your Airport Extreme is looking like the prime suspect. Perhaps I should say "hardware of interest" to avoid accusations of slander. Take it back to Apple, if a new one does the same thing it's back to head-scratching time.
Never heard of a *faulty Airport* causing this problem, hopefully it's a rare fault.

  • Safari now slow loading pages from Apple!

This is an add on from a future post today with this problem. Safari slow loading pages, NOW even slow loading Apple pages here on the discussion board.

Repairing permissions is an important part of regular maintenance, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.
Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
This only takes a minute or two.
    Background information here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751
    and here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302672
If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.
Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk.

  • Safari slow loading sites j

All of a sudden Safari is very slow loading web pages. The blue bar will start and then it will freeze and stay there. If I hit stop and refresh it zips right across and loads. I have emptied the cache, reset Safari and run Disk Utility. Any suggestions?

Hi again, researching further, I found a poster who wrote:
_+If that doesn't work try changing your dns settings. I had a similar issue and after a visit to opendns.com and changing my settings, things are better than before. Plus I changed the settings on my router and which solved the problem for all my computers._+
though I did the other two things, the .com.apple file thing and the macfixit (well I tried some of those) this is what worked, going to the above mentioned webpage and following the very simple steps. I have no idea what the heck I did actually, but it worked. I also do not know why all of a sudden everything changed and I had to do this trouble shooting. Made me feel like I was back in PC Land.

  • Why are videos on Youtube slow loading since ff4 update?

ever since updating ff 4 videos on Youtube are slow loading. all plugins, codecs and computer are up to date. my other computers have older versions of ff and have no issues. what is going on?

    Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
     Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
Here is a link to their contacts with most of the information below.

There have been a few reports on here where Corsair RAM seems to have caused users a lot of grief with crashes.
The recommendation on here, mostly, is to only buy RAM from macsales.com or crucial.com as they guarantee their modules will work and offer a no quibble lifetime guarantee.
I'd put the original RAM back in, return the Corsair chips for a refund and re-order from one of those two companies.

  • Slow load times on AU sites?

is anyone still experiencing slow load times on AU sites, apparently this is resolved but I just emptied my cache and checked load times on half dozen sites. Still very slow!

I just loaded http://www.prettypollution.com.au/ and it took 17sec.
Got similar time for http://www.designexperts.com.au/ as well. So, although not very fast it's much better than what you’re seeing. Could be something in the node you’re being routed through.

  • Boot message: problem with hard drive detected. Slow loading of windows 7

    Good Day
I am having a problem with my hard drive, everytime it boots these days it starts with a message: Warning: a problem with the hard drive has been detected, followed by an extremely slow loading of windows. then once in windows it gives me Anothet message
the messsage says hard drive failure imminent you should back up you data etc.
    My specs are:
    Intel core 2 duo e8400 3.0 ghz
    4 gig ddr3 transcend
    1 tb seagate 7200.12
giga byte nvidia 9800 gt 1 gig ddr3
    Please help lots of data.

    Another option:
Take your hard drive out and slave it into another KNOWN WORKING PC.
Back-up your data immediately. Slow boot usually indicates that the drive is going to die. (Check your warranty!)
Then, run "chkdsk /r" from the host PC to check the failing drive. (It is good to match OSes if you can.)

  • IMac - Slow load and wifi problems

I have lion installed on my macbook pro and on my iMac. My macbook pro works GREAT...no problems. My iMac - I am ready to toss out a window. Here are the problems:
INCREDIBLY slow boot up time - 5-10 minutes from off - 5-8 minutes from sleep
The hard drive is constantly working. I can have nothing open and it sounds like the hard drive is constantly spinning
Half the time my wifi hardware is not found on boot up and I have to reboot with slow load times - sometimes taking 20 minutes before I can get logged in to a 'working' computer
A lot of my programs have become slow. Safari can be slow responsive but others that are not apple that have done 'lion updates'
I have my activity monitor running and nothing seems to be hogging resources. My iMac specs are:
    2.8 intel core i5
    12 gb ram
2 TB hard drive with about 1tb free
I ran the lion update that came out and it did not seem to do much for me.
Anyone have a solution? Anyone tried a clean format and did this work? Lion works great on my laptop and I just need it to work on my main computer as well.
    Reba

i think part of the boot up time issue is the amount of windows you happen to have open when you put it to sleep
other is lion upgrade slows it down due to this auto save function
my wifi is also spotty and acts like it can't find itself at times
and this is a brand new imac

Empty the Safari cache more often.
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Select:  Show Develop menu in menu bar
Now click Develop from the menu bar. From the drop down menu click Empty Caches.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

  • Itunes choppy, slow since upgrading to 10.x

Ever since I upgraded to version 10.x or the latest as of this date, when I want to listen to itunes its horribly choppy, slows down and buzzes during playback.   I've updated quicktime to version 7.x still didn't help.  It doesn't appear to be CPU or Memory related as the system is running at CPU levels of 25% utilized and memory is about 50%.
    Any help would be appreciated

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Try emptying the cache and reset Safari and see if that helps.
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
If you are running Safari in 64 bit mode, try running in 32-bit mode instead. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.
