Cisco ISE managing configuration
Is there a built-in mechansim for revision control in Cisco ISE? If not built-in, then what is the other way? I have been trying to look for documentation online but didn't find any.
Just to explain what I am looking for:
A way to properly manage all the configuration changes to ISE node. Changes are usually identified by a number or letter code, termed the "revision number". For example, an initial set of files is "revision 1". When the first change is made, the resulting set is "revision 2", and so on. Each revision is associated with a timestamp and the person making the change. Revisions can be compared, restored, and with some types of files, merged.
I ask this because "show run" output in ISE CLI does not give all the configuration details. How can we maintain the history of configurations?
PS: I rate useful posts
Thanks,
Kashish
There is not a way to track which version a specific ISE configuration is on. The ADE-OS configuration, or cli configuration typically is static once the repositories, dns info...etc is all set and done. For the application database you can setup a timer where an automatic backup is generated, from there you can manage what dates a backup is good for.
Thanks,

Cisco ISE log configuration commands enetered on routers
Hello,
I am trying to migrate from Cisco ACS to ISE.
I want to log configuration commands entered on routers.
I have configured the routers to send accounting radius to ISE but ISE sees the messages as:
"22003 Missing attribute for authentication
11014 RADIUS packet contains invalid attribute(s)"
Can I configure ISE to receive radius accounting messages ?
Is there another way to configure ISE to log configuration commands ?
Another way would be to send syslog messages using the archive configuration on routers, but I cannot find the syslog mesages on ISE.

Cisco ISE inline posture node Posture assessment query
Hi all,
i read the user guide for the ISE 1.1 and in the Inline posture section, I picked up the following text which concerned me if I understand it right...
"In a deployment, such as outlined in the example, when more endpoints connect to the wireless network
they are likely to fall into one of the identity groups that already have authenticated and authorized users
connected to the network.
For instance, there may be an employee, executive, and guest that have been granted access through the
outlined steps. This situation means that the respective restrictive or full-access profiles for those ID
groups have already been installed on the Inline Posture node. The subsequent endpoint authentication
and authorization uses the existing installed profiles on the Inline Posture node, unless the original
profiles have been modified at the Cisco ISE policy configuration. In the latter case, the modified profile
with ACL is downloaded and installed on the Inline Posture node, replacing the previous version."
Does this mean that if a corporate user VPNs in and successfully passes posture and gets a dACL applied to the session allowing full access, will the next user completely skip posture assessment and granted full access to the network if they are a member of the same AD group?
I am planning on using the iPEP for posturing VPN clients and using AD groups to determine the correct dACL to apply to a particular VPN session.
Thanks!
MarioI'm not too familiar with the actual operations of the Inline Posture node, but it seems to me that the only things that are more or less "cached" are the authentication and authorization profiles that have been previously matched. So, even if they're "cached" and a endpoint matches and authorizes based on those policies, it would match on the policy that provides a pre-posture state. So, a PRE-POSTURE ACL would be pushed and an URL redirect would also occur to the NAC agent download portal (if the endpoint doesn't have it already).
After posture is assessed, a change of authorization would occur and reauthorize that endpoint's session.
So, in short, even if the profiles are cached, they only deliver pre-posture profiles. After posture assessment, the endpoint is goes through reauth via CoA.
If you have access to the partner education connection, I suggest checking out the VoE deep dive series for ISE. There's a posture presentation that would probably help you out.

Integration Safeword with Cisco ISE
Hi,
we have a Domain Integrated Safeword application, which was installed on our Domain Controller. Safeword requests were send over the Radius Port to the NPS server, and from there over Port 5040 to the Safeword application. This works without any problems.
Now we would like to integrate the Cisco ISE to the Safeword. Because there is a checkbox "Safeword Server" at the Radius Token Identity Source, I thought that it is possible to communicate direct with the Safeword application, but it is not working.
Anyone who already implemented this??
T&R
FrankSymptoms or Issue
•Unsuccessful RADIUS or AAA functions in Cisco ISE
•The NAD is unable to ping the Policy Service ISE node
Conditions
This scenario is applicable in a system in which Cisco ISE is configured to perform user authentication via an external RADIUS server on the network.
Possible Causes
The following are possible causes for losing connectivity with the RADIUS server:
•Network connectivity issue or issues
•Bad server IP address
•Bad server port
Resolution
If you are unable to ping the Policy Service ISE node from the NAD, try any or all of these possible solutions:
•Verify the NAD IP address
•Try using Traceroute and other appropriate "sniffer"-type tools to isolate the source of disconnection. (In a production environment, be cautious of overusing debug functions, because they commonly consume large amounts of available bandwidth and CPU, which can impact normal network operation.)
Check the Cisco ISE "TCP Dump" report for the given Policy Service ISE node to see if there are any indications. -
Cisco ISE 1.2.x with Posture Configuration - Windows Patches
Hi, Anybody has any experience in integrating Cisco ISE Posture with Microsoft SCCM?
With WSUS this works fine, but with SCCM I don't have any idea how to proceed. Anybody knows what it's included in the predefined rules
pr_WSUSRule and pr_WSUSCheck? I can't find any information in ISE Console or Cisco documentation.
Thanks.Once agent performs the posture checks containing the windows hotfix checks, if the administrator configured the Launch Program Posture Remediation , agent will launch the script file which will initiate the windows hotfix updates via SCCM client configuration manager pre-installed/pre-configured on the box.

Cisco call manager Network Failover Configuration
Hi all,
I have a cisco call manager 6.0.
The server is configured and is functioning very well.
Only today I realized that the server MCS has two NIC and there is the possibility to configure a networ failover by cli interface.
Now the question are:
is it possible to configure this function now without problem?
if yes what are the ordered steps to follow?
Thanks all.Hi

Cisco Provisioning Manager 2.1 bulk service area detailed configuring
Hi folks,
I'm really stuck and need some help desperately.
I have bought Cisco Provisioning Manager 2.1 for 5000 handsets and I have isntalled the product ok however I am now at the stage where I need to configure the service areas. I have some 45 sites which equates to about 350 service areas.
Service Area for each site with the following differences:
- Odd Device, Present CLI
- Even Device, Present CLI
- Odd Device, Restrict CLI
- Even Device, Restrict CLI
Can someone please advise me a way to bulk configure these detailed attributes with some tool or a let me know of a customer northbound API application that has been written to do make this painful exercise much less painful?
I estimate its going to take me 5 weeks full time to click through each thing and configure it..
Please help!
Cheers
BeauYou can bulk load (with batch provisioning) the Service Areas... I did this by exporting my phones into a CSV file from Communications Manager, and then filtered it for the fields required for the SAs. Then you just follow the instructions for batch provisioning that start here: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/docs/net_mgmt/cisco_unified_provisioning_manager/2.1/user/guide/infrstct.html#wp1051558
I hope that helps...

Configuring Cisco ISE for Authorization with External Radius Server attribute
Hi,
I'm trying to integrate an external radius server with Cisco ISE.
I created an External Identity Store>Radius Token Server.
I created a Identity Store sequence with just one identity store just as creadted above.
And I was able to authenticate successfully.
But when it comes to authorization.
I observed we just have one tab named Authorization while creating Radius Token server.
And it always refers to ACS:attribute_name.
If I want to define a IETF radius attribute, (lets say class with attribute id as 25), how could I do it.
In Cisco ACS we have a direct entry option in authorization tab where we can define the radius (IETF) attribute within Radius token server creation (within radius token server>Directory attribute tab).
How ever I try to define the IETF attribute here (class,IETF:Class) I am not able to authorize with this attribute value.
I tried with just one single authorization rule where it could hit.But observed it to go the default(as none of the rules defined matches the condition).
Can anyone guide me how can we define a IETF radius attribute for authorization within Cisco ISE and what policy could we set it to work as authorization.
Thanks in advance
Senthil KThis is the step of Creating and Editing RADIUS Vendors
To create and edit a RADIUS vendor, complete the following steps:
Step 1 From the Administration mega menu, choose Resources > RADIUS Vendors.
The RADIUS Vendors page appears with a list of RADIUS vendors that ISE supports.
Step 2 Click Create to create a new RADIUS vendor or click the radio button next to the RADIUS vendor that
you want to edit and click Edit.
Step 3 Enter the following information:
• Name—(Required) Name of the RADIUS vendor.
• Description—An optional description for the vendor.
• Vendor ID—(Required) The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA)-approved ID for the
vendor.
• Vendor Attribute Type Field Length—(Required) The number of bytes taken from the attribute value
to be used to specify the attribute type. Valid values are 1, 2, and 4. The default value is 1.
• Vendor Attribute Size Field Length—(Required) The number of bytes taken from the attribute value
to be used to specify the attribute length. Valid values are 0 and 1. The default value is 1.
Step 4 Click Submit to save the RADIUS vendor. -
Cisco ISE with both internal and External RADIUS Server
Hi
I have ISE 1.2 , I configured it as management monitor and PSN and it work fine
I would like to know if I can integrate an external radius server and work with both internal and External RADIUS Server simultanously
So some computer (groupe_A in active directory ) will continu to made radius authentication on the ISE internal radius and other computer (groupe_B in active directory) will made radius authentication on an external radius server
I will like to know if it is possible to configure it and how I can do it ?
Thanks in advance for your help
Regards
BlaiseCisco ISE can function both as a RADIUS server and as a RADIUS proxy server. When it acts as a proxy server, Cisco ISE receives authentication and accounting requests from the network access server (NAS) and forwards them to the external RADIUS server. Cisco ISE accepts the results of the requests and returns them to the NAS.
Cisco ISE can simultaneously act as a proxy server to multiple external RADIUS servers. You can use the external RADIUS servers that you configure here in RADIUS server sequences. The External RADIUS Server page lists all the external RADIUS servers that you have defined in Cisco ISE. You can use the filter option to search for specific RADIUS servers based on the name or description, or both. In both simple and rule-based authentication policies, you can use the RADIUS server sequences to proxy the requests to a RADIUS server.
The RADIUS server sequence strips the domain name from the RADIUS-Username attribute for RADIUS authentications. This domain stripping is not applicable for EAP authentications, which use the EAP-Identity attribute. The RADIUS proxy server obtains the username from the RADIUS-Username attribute and strips it from the character that you specify when you configure the RADIUS server sequence. For EAP authentications, the RADIUS proxy server obtains the username from the EAP-Identity attribute. EAP authentications that use the RADIUS server sequence will succeed only if the EAP-Identity and RADIUS-Username values are the same. -
Cisco ISE 1.2 & Cisco WLC 5508 v7.6
Hi all,
we are planning to upgrade our WLC to 7.6 to fix a bug with FlexConnect Client ACLs but I have just seen on the Cisco ISE Compatibility table that the it only recommends up to v7.5 of the WLC 5508...
Cisco have told me to steer clear of 7.5 as it is in a defferred status, so does anyone know, or have running in a lab or production, ISE1.2 with a 5508 WLC v7.6 NAD ?
I would much rather know of any issues people are experiencing before hand than to have to go through a software upgrade and then rollback.
Thanks all
Mario De RosaHi Neno,
right I have this almost working now.
I have simplified the setup. I am not going to do any client provisioning at the moment.
So I can connect to the corporate SSID using EAP-TLS and I can successfully push the branch data VLAN upon successful authorisation.
Now I am trying to introduce the posture element & per user ACLs.
I have defined the redirect ACL & Flex ACL on the vWLC however the NAC agent will not pop-up. The client is in the right VLAN and the redirect ACL seems to be getting applied as the client does get an IP through DHCP. However, the client cannot ping the ISE or access the guest portal when I open the browser.
DNS resolution seems to be working fine.
VLAN220 is my datacentre VLAN which the Management Interface on the controller is plugged in to.
VLAN10 is the branch DATA VLAN.

Can you see any obvious reason why the NAC agent wont pop up?

Cisco ISE - cannot reach Guest Portal
Hi all,
I have a Cisco ISE server, which is installed on a VMWare plattform. On the ISE server, I configured 2 network cards. One for the Corporate network ( Gigabit Ethernet 0) and one for the Guests (Gigabit Ethernet 1). Because I had problems, I put a client into the Guest VLAN (Wired) and tried to access the guest portal which was not working.
I recognized that the port 8443 for the guest portal is blocked. But I was able to ping the address, and the port 443 and 22 are open as well. On the Gigabit Ethernet 0 network everything works.
All interfaces are activated at the Web Portal Management Settings, for the ports 8443 and 8444.
Anybody an idea??

Cisco ISE and SecurID Integration Questions
I'm looking for some clarity trying to understand something conceptually. I want to integrate Cisco ISE with RSA SecurID, the idea being that if the user authenticates with RSA SecurID they end up on one VLAN, however, if they don't authenticate with (or don't use, or don't have) SecurID they'll end up on another VLAN. Note that I'm not using SecurID for wireless access...all PCs are wired to Ethernet.
We have been using RSA SecurID for a while and are currently on version 8.0. Our users are authenticating via the RSA Agent typically on Windows 8.1. Instead of the usual Windows login prompt, the RSA Agent first prompts for the username and passcode (they use an app on their smartphones to get the passcode), then after a moment or two, it prompts for their Windows domain password.
We have recently installed Cisco ISE version 1.3. With the help of a local Cisco engineer and going through the "Cisco Identity Services Engine User Guide", I have it set up and running along with a few 'test' ports on our Cisco 6809 switch, it basically works...as a test it's simply set up that if they authenticate they're on one VLAN, if not, they end up on another (this is currently without using RSA...just out-of-the-box Windows authentication).
The Cisco engineer was unable to help me with RSA SecurID, so pressing on without him, out of the same user guide I have followed the directions for "RSA Identity Sources" under the "Managing Users and External Identity Sources", and that went well as far as ISE is concerned; I am now ready to get serious about getting ISE and SecurID working together.
My mistake in this design so far was assuming that the RSA agent on the Windows client PCs would communicate with Cisco ISE...there doesn't seem to be a way to have them point to a non-RSA SecurID server for authentication. The concept I'm missing is what, or how, the end-user machine is supposed to authenticate taking advantage of both ISE and SecurID.
I have dug deeper into the Cisco ISE documentation but it seems heavily biased towards Wi-Fi and BYOD implementations and it's not clear to me what applies to wired vs wireless. Perhaps it's a case that I'm not seeing the forest for the trees, but I'm not understanding what the end-user authentication looks like. It apears that as I learn more about ISE, it should become the primary SSO source, that SecurID becomes just an identity source and the PC clients would no-longer directly communicate with the SecurID servers. That being the case, do I need to replace the SecurID client on the PCs and something else Cisco-ish fills this role? An agent for ISE? How do they continue to use their passcode without the RSA agent?
Thanks! The external db not operation indicates that there is no communication between ACS and RSA. Did you fetch the package.cab file to analyse the auth.log file?
Have you already gone through the below listed link?

Is OpenLdap supported by Cisco ISE 1.2?
When I try "Test bind to server" I get results so the connection seems fine. However when I set up the policies for a basic wlan with wpa2 authentication it says "Invalid password". When I put my username in the attributes folder it finds my id so I'm sure the link is working fine.Cisco ISE always uses the primary LDAP server to obtain groups and attributes for use in authorization policies from the Admin portal, so the primary LDAP server must be accessible when you configure these items. Cisco ISE uses the secondary LDAP server only for authentications and authorizations at run time, according to the failover configuration.
Cisco ISE retains a list of open LDAP connections (including the binding information) for each LDAP server that is configured in Cisco ISE. During the authentication process, the connection manager attempts to find an open connection from the pool. If an open connection does not exist, a new one is opened.
If the LDAP server closed the connection, the connection manager reports an error during the first call to search the directory, and tries to renew the connection. After the authentication process is complete, the connection manager releases the connection.

Cisco ISE 1.3 Active Directory issue
Hi Folks
I am having an issue with our Cisco ISE and would love some feedback or a solution. I have to ISE configured to use our Active Directory setup and so far it appears to be functional. I could connect to AD retrieve groups and use AD for authentication. The issue I am experiencing is that when I try to go to the 'Administration > Identity Management > External Sources page and select our AD instance from the left hand side window the screen locks up and refuses to load. Any advice?hi
i also had this issue (and one of my collegue also) when using Firefox (version 34 and 35)
i managed to create the AD server using IE 10 for example, and after it appears correctly with Firefox
it was before ise1.3patch 1, but i have seen no corrected issue in patch1 release note for this problem
