Does Cisco Prime Infrastructure supports monitoring CPU,Memory, HDD for UCS , VMWare?
Prime Infrastructure/ Assurance is positioned today more towards managing network elements and network performance, rather than server infrastructure. We are in the process of adding Datacenter component support, with more focus on Nexus and UCS- due later this year.
Having said that, Prime Infrastructure allows the system user to add custom SNMP polling templates, which can then be used for polling any SNMP based values from any SNMP enabled device. These can be used to collect the information you specified below and the polled information will be available in dashboards and reports. -
Cisco Prime LMS MPLS monitoring
Hi all, have anyone used Cisco Prime LMS for MPLS xconnect monitoring?
Currently when these traps arrive to Cisco Prime LMS they are classified as "InformAlarm Unidentified Trap Generic".
Is it maybe possible to load the correct MIB for these traps and get Cisco Prime LMS to understand them correctly?
The raw traps looks like this:
xconnect down:
09:58:42.352760 IP (tos 0x40, ttl 245, id 12, offset 0, flags [none], proto: UDP (17), length: 114) routerhost.51591 > lmshost.snmptrap: [udp sum ok] { SNMPv1 { Trap(71) E:cisco.10.106.2 10.130.1.13 enterpriseSpecific s=1 424011509 E:cisco.10.106.1.2.1.26.2=2 E:cisco.10.106.1.2.1.26.2=2 } }
xconnect up:
09:59:48.597894 IP (tos 0x40, ttl 245, id 14, offset 0, flags [none], proto: UDP (17), length: 114) routerhost.51591 > lmshost.snmptrap: [udp sum ok] { SNMPv1 { Trap(71) E:cisco.10.106.2 10.130.1.13 enterpriseSpecific s=2 424018144 E:cisco.10.106.1.2.1.26.2=1 E:cisco.10.106.1.2.1.26.2=1 } }
I found some more info about the traps at:
http://tools.cisco.com/Support/SNMP/do/BrowseMIB.do?local=en&step=2&mibName=CISCO-IETF-PW-MIB-V1SMI
BR /CrilleHere is an update:
After discussing with TAC there seems to be 2 possible solutions in LMS right now:
1. Create a threshold that monitors the specific OID for the xconnect vc and generate alarm if it changes.
2. Configure the device to send syslog when a xconnect state changes and create an "automated syslog action".
I have not tried either of them yet so I dont know which one works best, but option 2 seems easiest (its a one time config). -
Monitoring the number of active calls in a gateway from HUM
Hi,
we are configuring HUM and we want to display the number of active calls in a gateway but we can't find any OID's that show exactly what we want. So we are going to use the EXPRESSION-MIB in order to calculate some values we need.
In MRTG we launch a snmpwalk query against the OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.63.1.3.1.1.9 (cvCallActiveInSignalLevel) and we count with a counter the number of rows obtained from that snmpwalk. The calculation is as follows:
@ret=snmpwalk(sigint03.'@'.'x.x.x.x'.'1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.63.1.3.1.1.9');
foreach $campo (@ret) {
$cuenta=$cuenta+1;
print $cuenta."\n";
But we don't know how to implement the "foreach" loop with the EXPRESSION-MIB... and we don't know any other way for getting the number of active calls.
Can anybody please help me?
Regards.Hi, I've only changed the command:
snmpset -v 2c -c private router expExpressionValueType i 4
with:
snmpset -v 2c -c private router expExpressionValueType.1 i 4
and
snmpset -v 2c -c private router expExpressionValueType.2 i 4
because, an error message appeared if not using the index. So, finally, the commands used are the following:
snmpset -v 2c -c private router expNameStatus.110.110.110.110.110 i 6snmpset -v 2c -c private router expNameStatus.110.110.110.110.110 i 5snmpset -v 2c -c private router expExpressionIndex.110.110.110.110.110 gauge 1snmpset -v 2c -c private router expExpressionComment.1 octetstring "numeroEntradas"snmpset -v 2c -c private router expExpression.1 octetstring '$1 >= 0'snmpset -v 2c -c private router expObjectID.1.1 o 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.63.1.3.1.1.1snmpset -v 2c -c private router expExpressionValueType.1 i 4snmpset -v 2c -c private router expObjectIDWildcard.1.1 i 1snmpset -v 2c -c private router expObjectStatus.1.1 i 1snmpset -v 2c -c private router expNameStatus.110.110.110.110.110 i 1snmpset -v 2c -c private router expNameStatus.111.111.111.111.111 i 6snmpset -v 2c -c private router expNameStatus.111.111.111.111.111 i 5snmpset -v 2c -c private router expExpressionIndex.111.111.111.111.111 gauge 2snmpset -v 2c -c private router expExpressionComment.2 octetstring "sumaEntradas"snmpset -v 2c -c private router expExpression.2 octetstring 'sum($1)'snmpset -v 2c -c private router expObjectID.2.1 o expValueInteger32Val.1.0.0snmpset -v 2c -c private router expExpressionValueType.2 i 4snmpset -v 2c -c private router expObjectIDWildcard.2.1 i 1snmpset -v 2c -c private router expObjectStatus.2.1 i 1snmpset -v 2c -c private router expNameStatus.111.111.111.111.111 i 1
But there are no entries in the expValueInteger32Val OID, so later, in the sum expression, there is no elements to sum. Please, find attached 2 files with the snmpwalk outputs.
How could we get to have values in expValueTable?
Many thanks. -
Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 OVA - URL/FTP not working
The ESXi install of the theNCS OVA was successful. NCS seems to load and activate interfaces. The console session is working. Using compliant browsers; https://<ip address> does not work. When I stop "ncs" or halt the vm the web page responds shortly but then the connection is lost. I used "show ports" and tried https://<ip address>/8082 and get a login from the Cisco Prime Infrastructure Health Monitor URL. There is a prompt for the authorization key. How can I confirm the installation is complte and all services are up and running
Thanks
TerryAfter digging almost 1 month, I found the answer.
When you do provision from ESXi with ova file, you have to create "Thick Provision" otherwise, you wiil have same problem such as "some services are not up"
In my case, I am running ESXi on the top of VM WorkStation since I don't have any ESXi server. When I added 250GB into the WorkStation and did provision with "Thick" it works !!!
Since my testing envrionment is little complicated (ESXi with VM WorkStation), I added first 250GB HDD into ESXi, and tried. It didn't work. So I added 250GB into VM WorkStation and did provision through Workstation, it worked (If you don't understand this statements, do not worry. If you have ESXi server, you don't need to worry about)
As far as cisco ova is concerned, when I talked to one of my my friend who was working for new ACS (Virtual Appliance) he had same issue. He also solved with "Thick Provision"
FYI, even if when I installed with "Thin Provision", PI 1.2 used only 10GB out of 200GB, so I did not think that I should use "Think Provision". But definitely not. -
Dear all,
I have 02 C6504-E with VSS (Virtual Switching System)
and 02 C3750X-24T-L used Stack
How to you Cisco Prime Infrastructure to monitor VSS & Stack tatus?
Thanks.Virtual Switching technology is the process of combining two standalone distribution switches found in the local distribution layer into a single management point.
The Virtual Switching System functions and appears as a single switch to the wiring closet and the core layer. You can also create Virtual Switching Systems with a pair of standalone switches available in the core layer.
For configuration please check the below link:

Hi everybody.
I have one question about cisco prime infraestructure, i whish to know how the Cisco Prime control the link WAN of my enterprise.
the topology is:
ROUTER --> MODEM --> ISP
I supossed that CP must have the assurance lincense, for use the control with netflow, but i whish to know how i can monitored the link between the modem and the ISP with the cisco prime.
i can monitored the link with the soft. Intermapper, i whis to know if the Ciso Prime 1.2 could perform this action.
RegardsWell the situation is like this... I am monitoring several wireless network devices. Some are connected by 3G and others via some other technology.
As you probably already know wireless connections are situational. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. What I want to achieve is to reduce the number of false positive alarms from these devices.
The current plan is to increase the timeout to the maximum (60 seconds) and the number of retries to a high enough number to make false positives statistically unprobable.
I would still like the devices to get polled quite often for a quick response, for example each 4 minutes (240 seconds).
The optimal situation would be the following:
Poll repeatedly each 4 minutes...
For each successful poll, the timer resets and after 4 minutes another poll happens, except for when the poll is not successful. When this happens no new polling instances get started and the polling instance that failed continues with a timeout of 60 seconds for X number of repetitions.
As soon as one of the retries is successful, the timer resets and in 4 minutes time a new polling instance gets created anew. If however after all of the retries, the device still fails to respond to the polls an alarm should get created and in 4 minutes time, it's time to check if the connectivity has been restored.
Hopefully the image is a little clearer now... This is why I'm interested in understanding if new polling instances get started independently or not. -
Cisco Prime 2.1, Removing Subgroup from Group in the Device Work Centre
Hi All,
I am having trouble removing a Device Group from within a Group in Cisco Prime.
In short, there is a group called 'Cisco 3850 Series Ethernet Stackable Switch' which exists under both the 'Wireless Controller' group and the 'Switches and Hubs' group. I want to remove it from the 'Wireless Controllers' group as we are not using the controller functionality of the deivce.
Can anyone help on this issue?
Thanks,
CameronHi TD,
I would suggest you to take both the backup ::
Application and appliance backups
Prime Infrastructure creates two types of backups:
Application backups: These contain all Prime Infrastructure application data, but do not include host-specific settings, such as the server hostname and IP address.
Appliance backups: These contain all application data and host-specific settings, including the hostname, IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway.
Note that:
Application and appliance backups can be taken from both virtual and hardware appliances.
Either type of backup can be restored to the same or a new host, as long as the new host has the same hardware and software configuration as the host from which the backup was taken.
You can only restore an application or appliance backup to a host running the same version of the Prime Infrastructure server software as the server from which the backup was taken.
You cannot restore an application backup using the appliance restore command, nor can you restore an appliance backup using the application backup command.

UPS monitoring support with Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2
Dear Members,
Good day,
I am having a project implemented wherein i have the UPS power redudancy solution for our network devices.
Now can anyone gide that is it possible for below :-
UPS units installed with SNMP cards be monitored via Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 as our monitoring & management solution is Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 ?
if yes
Can you guide if following action would be possible to export the below logs from UPS unit to our Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2
a) UPS fault status information
b) UPS operational status(input power available Y/N)
c) Battery fault status
d) Battery charging current
e) Battery charge level
f) Output current
Conclusion is we need to confirm that would it be posible to achieve remote monitoring of these UPS units via our CPI 1.2
Thanks in Advance for your support & replies to this query.
Regards,
Muzammil N.Prime Infrastructure 1.2 can manage non-Cisco devices in a limited fashion via SNMP query and trap processing. It cannot import logs and does not have a generic syslog server,
So if your devices have snmp read only support and can generate SNMP traps for the above you can add them to PI. Follow the manual add device procedure here. -
Monitoring ASA in Cisco Prime infrastructure 2.2
Hi everybody. I have some issue with cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.2. We use this product in our network for monitoring network devices and I need to monitor also our ASA 5550 device with soft 8.4. I added ASA to Cisco PI but see only basic component like my device can reachable via and read via snmp. But cannot see CPU, RAM, Device ENV like Temperature, l2l vpn connection, Interfaces status and Utilization that interfaces, cannot see sub interface that placed on ASA like that g0/0.20. I need fully monitor ASA and See logs and trap for my device:
CPU RAM ENV (Temperature), Interface and sub interface status, L2L VPN Status.
1 Cisco Prime infrastructure can full support ASA for monitoring and logging.. IF YES how can i configure that features in Cisco PI 2.2 for ASA
2 IF not which product Can full support that features for full monitoring and logging ASA devices
I have a little deadline for finishing
thanks everybody beforeI've not success monitoring ASA interface utilization either. I'm using PI 2.2 with device update #1. The ASA is a 5585-X with 9.2(3) software.
I have deployed the PI monitoring template to the ASA and do see its overall status and PI has enumerated the interfaces in the device page.
I even looked at a packet capture and see PI querying the values of the interface counters and those values being sent back to PI - yet I cannot select any ASA interface when drilling down under Performance Detail monitoring.
When I get some free time I will open a TAC case on it, meanwhile I am getting all the info I need from the upstream and downstream switches. -
Can we Monitor third party Windows servers through Cisco Prime
Hi Team,
We are using Cisco Prime assurance and are currently monitoring Cisco UCCE Components through it.
Meanwhile we have few third party windows servers , which we would like to monitor it through Cisco Prime , just to maintain a single monitoring tool.
If yes, please share the steps or link.Also highlight the limitations in that.
Regards,
krishnaSeems Cisco Prime Assurance Manager is now obsolete and end of life already.
It is replaced by Cisco Prime Infrastructure. CPI supports third party/vendor devices to some minimum extent with limited management details collected via SNMP Templates.
-Thanks

Hola,
Por favor, tengo un par de preguntas con el Cisco Prime LMS:
Primero: Puedo monitorear equipos que no son de Cisco?
Segundo: Puedo monitorear temperatura de loos equipos con LMS o debe ser Network?
GraciasCisco Prime LMS does NOT have the WAN QoS deployment capabilities packaged up nicely the way QPM did. It does, however, offer the Auto Smartports and MediaNet work centers that aid in setting up (primarily) endpoint switch ports. See this link for more details.
I believe the best one could do with respect to MAN/WAN devices' QoS settings using LMS would be to create deployment templates and do compliance checks. -
Cisco Prime Monitor Sub Interfaces
We are currently running Cisco Prime 2.1 and trying to monitor sub interfaces on our Cisco 7606. We can see the sub interfaces by:
Operate | Device Work Center
Select Quick Filter (to find the 7606)
Select Interfaces
Select IP Interfaces
The sub interfaces that we wish to monitor are displayed (with the above steps). However, when we try to select the interface to monitor, the sub interfaces do not appear:
Home | Detail Dashboard
Select Interface
Select the interface pull-down | All | 7606
We do not see the sub interfaces, only 2 interfaces are displayed. We do not see the interface GigabitEthernet4/7 at all. What are we missing here?i couldn't find the appropriate MIB to monitor the call session
